Such a good opportunity to make a difference at low risk. They could probably get funding from the insurance companies. I'm surprised India didn't do this a decade ago to join the Great Powers league, at least in perception of capability.
[IsraelTimes] Raids in Berlin and across Brandenburg target Jama’atu Berlin organization, said to have called for armed jihad and terrorist attacks on civilians
Hundreds of German coppers conducted coordinated raids early Thursday in Berlin and the surrounding state of Brandenburg in the investigation of an organization banned over allegations of Islamic extremism.
Some 850 police, including SWAT teams, were involved in the raids of apartments linked to members of the organization known as Jama’atu Berlin, the state Interior Ministry said.
The organization, whose name translates literally as the "Berlin Group," was banned by Berlin’s state Interior Minister Andreas Geisel ahead of the raids on the grounds it was a "very radical" group that followed the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group’s ideology.
"The ban is another clear signal to all religious holy warriors," Geisel said. "We will fight the roots of terror. We will tolerate no place where terror is preached and the so-called Islamic State is glorified."
Authorities said the organization espoused an anti-Semitic ideology and advocated "armed jihad and terrorist attacks on civilians." The raids were meant to secure its assets and look for evidence, authorities said, and no arrests were announced.
The organization consisted of two groups — one of women and one of men — who would meet regularly in private homes and parks, and spread their ideology over the internet and with flyers in public spaces, authorities said.
Berlin's Senate has announced on Twitter that it has banned the "jihadist-Salafist association Jama'atu Berlin," also known as Tauhid Berlin.
The raids targeted the districts of Reinickendorf, Moabit, Wedding and Neukölln.
WHAT IS THE RADICAL GROUP ACCUSED OF?
A statement from the Senate said Jama'atu Berlin had propagated "a martyr cult," supported the "Islamic State," rejected the German constitution and called for sharia as the sole legitimate law.
The group is believed to have about 20 members, some of whom had attracted attention in the past by handing out leaflets in parts of Berlin.
LINK TO BERLIN CHRISTMAS MARKET ATTACKER
Berlin Interior Senator Andreas Geisel told a news conference the unregistered association had been under surveillance for two years.
The Tagesspiegel newspaper reported that several of the group's followers previously attended the Fussilet Mosque, which was closed down in 2017. Anis Amri, the Tunisian national who carried out an attack on a Berlin Christmas market in 2016 killing 12 people, also frequented the mosque, according to authorities.
The number of Salafists in Germany rose to a record high of 12,150 in 2019, according to the domestic intelligence agency.
[AnNahar] A Sarajevo court sentenced one of Bosnia's most high-profile jihadists to six years in prison on Thursday for fighting alongside the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... group and inciting terrorism in online videos.
Jasmin Keserovic, 26, was found guilty of "organizing a terrorist group" and "publicly encouraging terrorist activities," a court statement said.
Keserovic, who left for Syria in 2003, took part in "terrorist activities, provided assistance and fought alongside ISIS (Islamic State group) forces" in the cities of Manbij, Kobane, Raqqa and al-Bab, it said.
Born during Bosnia's 1990s inter-ethnic war, Keserovic became a radicalized as a teenager, according to local media.
After quitting high school he spent three years in a northeast hamlet in Bosnia considered the stronghold of the country's Wahhabi movement,
...no doubt someone knows the name of this hamlet, but clearly the An Nahar journalist couldn’t be bothered...
an ultra-conservative branch of Islam that dominates in Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... The majority of Bosnian Moslems, who make up around half the country's 3.5 million population, practice a moderate form of Islam.
During Keserovic's trial, experts said he had appeared in two videos promoting the IS. One, which also featured other jihadists from the Balkans, was released in 2015. In the second, Keserovic, who is wearing a military uniform and armed with an automatic rifle, urges Bosnian Moslems to "kill Christians and their servants in their towns and countries".
"Do not make any difference between civilians and militaries," he says.
He was repatriated to Bosnia in December 2019 along with six fellow countrymen.
In total some 300 Bosnian nationals, including women and kiddies, left for Syria and Iraq, according to authorities.
Around 100 died overseas, while some 85 women and kiddies remain in Syrian camps.
Around 30 men who returned or were repatriated have been put on trial in the Balkan country and condemned to jail terms of up to four years, which prosecutors deem too lenient.
[A]long with other individuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina staying in Syria with the same intent, he participated in terrorist activities, rendered assistance and fought for ISIL forces in Syria, in the towns of Manbiy, Kobani, Raqqa and Al-Bab, within the “Bejt Commandos” unit, subsequently renamed “Al Aqsa”...
Bosnia’s top court has found Jasmin Keserovic guilty of having travelled to Syria in January 2013, fought for ISIS and taken part in terrorist activities under the name Abu Muhamed Al Bosni.
According to BIRN’s analysis, courts in Bosnia have sentenced 39 people to a combined total of just over 164 years in prison for travelling to foreign battlefields and for committing, planning and preparing terrorist acts. They have acquitted three.
Bosnia sentenced foreign fighters to less than two years in prison on average.

23 tons! Customs in Germany and Belgium seized a record of cocaine - more than 23 tonnes - that was destined for the Netherlands. German officials discovered 16 tonnes in five containers that had arrived in the port of Hamburg from Paraguay earlier this month. Police in the Netherlands were notified and 7.2 tonnes of cocaine was seized at the Belgian port of Antwerp. The cocaine had a street value of billions of euros. The two raids took place earlier this month. The cocaine in Hamburg was concealed in tins of wall filler, which entered on a container ship from Paraguay.

[BenarNews] Thai security forces were hunting for suspected armed separatist snuffies who killed two soldiers and injured another during an attack Thursday on a makeshift military camp in the mountains of Ra-ngae, a district of Narathiwat province, authorities said.
This was the first incident with casualties in Thailand’s southern region along the Malaysia border since two soldiers were maimed in a roadside kaboom explosion set off by suspected rebels on Feb. 13.
Malaysia since January 2020 has been brokering peace talks between the Thai government and Barisan Revolusi Nasional (National Liberation Front, or BRN),
...the Salafi Barisan Revolusi Nasional-Koordinasi (BRN-C), the largest group in the south Thailand Islamist jihad. Col. Chanathip Thongchiew, the commander of the 45th Ranger Task Force in Thailand’s Deep South, said a team of 16 people from his unit had been tasked with tracking a group of snuffies who were recently spotted near the Tawe mountain range.
"The 16 men trekked on foot and camped at the site before dusk yesterday with a plan to launch a man-hunt operation on Thursday, but the snuffies were able to spot their movement first," Chanathip told news hounds.
"The snuffies attacked them with homemade hand grenades, followed by a barrage of gunfire from M-16s and shotguns — they shot at every tent. The soldiers returned fire for about 15 minutes before the attackers retreated," Chanathip said.
"Two soldiers were killed and another was maimed."
Chanathip did not say how many snuffies were involved but noted that they were able to snatch two rifles and a shotgun from the soldiers before fleeing.
He said the snuffies were led by a krazed killer identified as Abdullah Bulla, but did not release details about him.
The soldiers who pursued the snuffies after the attack found traces of blood on a trail to the Tawe mountain range but were not able to track down their attackers, he said.
This year, at least five civilians and government officials were killed and 21 were maimed in attacks by suspected rebels, according to police reports gathered by BenarNews.
The Deep South encompasses Pattani, Narathiwat, Yala provinces and four districts of Songkhla province. Since an insurgency reignited in January 2004, more than 7,000 people have been killed in violence across the region, according to Deep South Watch, a think-tank based in Pattani.
[Aljazeera] The United States military says it carried out attacks on facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran-backed militia on Thursday, following recent rocket attacks on US troop locations in Iraq.
"At President Biden’s direction, US military forces earlier this evening conducted airstrikes against infrastructure utilized by Iranian-backed militant groups in eastern Syria," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby in a statement. "At President Biden's direction"...yeah, riiight. Someone's gonna pay for this ill-mannered affront to our Ayatollah Friends
"These strikes were authorised in response to recent attacks against American and Coalition personnel in Iraq, and to ongoing threats to those personnel," he said.
According to the Pentagon, US fighter jets dropped seven 500-lb Joint Direct Attack Munition-guided precision bombs, hitting seven targets, which includes a crossing used by the armed groups to move weapons across the border.
Kirby said the strikes destroyed multiple facilities at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups, including Kata’ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS).

[AlAhram] Sistan-Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... has a large ethnic Baluch population, that straddles the border and mainly follows the Sunni branch of Islam, not the Shia branch followed by most Iranians
An officer has been killed in an attack on a cop shoppe in southeastern Iran, state media reported Thursday, as unrest in Sistan-Balochistan province spread to placid provincial capital Zahedan.
The violence began earlier this week when a clash involving fuel smugglers at the Pak border triggered attacks on government buildings in the nearby city of Saravan, 270 kilometres (170 miles) southeast of Zahedan, in which at least one person was fatally maimed.
Sistan-Balochistan has a large ethnic Baluch population, that straddles the border and mainly follows the Sunni branch of Islam, not the Shia branch followed by most Iranians.
The province has long been a flashpoint for cross-border attacks by separatists and Sunni holy warriors.
Zahedan county governor Abouzarmahdi Nakahei said the latest violence was fuelled by "fake" reports of deaths in the unrest in Saravan.
"Following the propaganda and rumours by foreign media, criminal elements attacked Kurin cop shoppe in Zahedan with light weapons and grenade launchers," Nakahei told state news agency IRNA, without saying when the attack took place.
He said the assailants had acted on the "excuse of showing solidarity for the fake deaths at Saravan's Shamsar cop shoppe."
Police returned fire and the attackers eventually fled, but one officer was killed in the firefight, Nakahei said.
Provincial deputy governor Mohammad-Hadi Marashi said several people had been maimed, one of them fatally, when officers at the Shamsar cop shoppe opened fire on a crowd on Monday.
He said the crowd had attacked the cop shoppe after an incident at the border in which Pak soldiers opened fire on fuel smugglers attempting to cross into Iran, killing one person and wounding four.
On Tuesday, angry protesters attacked the county governor's office in Saravan, damaging property before being dispersed, Marashi said.
Provincial police chief Ahmad Taheri told the Tasnim news agency that hundreds had taken part in the Tuesday attack but the situation was now "under control"

Starting up a forever-war again?
[Jpost] The United States on Thursday carried out an airstrike in Syria against a structure belonging to what it said were Iran-backed militia, two officials told Reuters, an apparent response to rocket attacks against US targets in Iraq.
While the strike could be the first retaliatory moves by the United States following last week's attacks, the move appeared to be limited in scope, potentially lowering the risk of escalation.
Also a decision to strike only in Syria and not in Iraq would give the Iraqi government some breathing room as it carries out its own investigation of a February 15 attack that wounded Americans.
The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the strike was approved by President Joe Biden. The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"President Biden will act to protect American and Coalition personnel. At the same time, we have acted in a deliberate manner that aims to de-escalate the overall situation in both eastern Syria and Iraq," Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
He added that the strikes destroyed multiple facilities at a border control point used by a number of Iranian-backed militant groups, including Kata'ib Hezbollah (KH) and Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada (KSS). That'll put a dent in the Iran nuclear 'deal' negotiations, won't it? And do you believe Slow Joe actually approved of this?

Abu Kamal (Syria) also known as al-Qaim (Iraq).
France24: But the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that 17 people were killed after the strike hit three trucks loaded with munitions coming from Iraq near the Syrian city of Bukamal.
The group said all the dead were from Iraq’s state-sponsored Hashed al-Shaabi force, the umbrella group over many small militias that have ties to Iran.

one interesting thing about this is all the Dem's who criticized Trump for bombing Syria after Assad's chemical attack on civilians
my fav of this genre is by Amy Siskind who says, in effect, the Biden bombing is OK since it doesn't come with a mean tweet (she tweeted this but deleted her tweet after it was mocked).

The one asking if Joe was informed got sandwich on my screen.
Guy goes into a bar, there's a robot bartender. Since the minimum wage was increased to $15 the owner had to replace his regular human bartender.
The robot says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini." The robot brings back the best martini ever and says to the man, "What's your IQ?" The guy says," 168." The robot then proceeds to talk about physics, space exploration and medical technology.
The guy leaves, but he is curious..so he goes back into the bar. The robot bartender says, "What will you have?"The guy says, "Martini." Again, the robot makes a great martini gives it to the man and says, "What's your IQ?" The guy says, "100." The robot then starts to talk about NASCAR, Budweiser and John Deere tractors.
The guy leaves, but finds it very interesting, so he thinks he will try it one more time. He goes back into the bar. The robot says, "What will you have?" The guy says, "Martini," and the robot brings him another great martini. The robot then says, "What's your IQ?" The guy says, "Uh, about 50." The robot leans in real close and says, "So, you people still happy you voted for Biden?"
