2021-02-26
[AnNahar] A Sarajevo court sentenced one of Bosnia's most high-profile jihadists to six years in prison on Thursday for fighting alongside the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group and inciting terrorism in online videos.

Jasmin Keserovic, 26, was found guilty of "organizing a terrorist group" and "publicly encouraging terrorist activities," a court statement said.

Keserovic, who left for Syria in 2003, took part in "terrorist activities, provided assistance and fought alongside ISIS (Islamic State group) forces" in the cities of Manbij, Kobane, Raqqa and al-Bab, it said.

Born during Bosnia's 1990s inter-ethnic war, Keserovic became a radicalized as a teenager, according to local media.

After quitting high school he spent three years in a northeast hamlet in Bosnia considered the stronghold of the country's Wahhabi movement,

an ultra-conservative branch of Islam that dominates in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
The majority of Bosnian Moslems, who make up around half the country's 3.5 million population, practice a moderate form of Islam.

During Keserovic's trial, experts said he had appeared in two videos promoting the IS. One, which also featured other jihadists from the Balkans, was released in 2015. In the second, Keserovic, who is wearing a military uniform and armed with an automatic rifle, urges Bosnian Moslems to "kill Christians and their servants in their towns and countries".

"Do not make any difference between civilians and militaries," he says.

He was repatriated to Bosnia in December 2019 along with six fellow countrymen.

In total some 300 Bosnian nationals, including women and kiddies, left for Syria and Iraq, according to authorities.

Around 100 died overseas, while some 85 women and kiddies remain in Syrian camps.

Around 30 men who returned or were repatriated have been put on trial in the Balkan country and condemned to jail terms of up to four years, which prosecutors deem too lenient.
The Sarajevo Times adds:
[A]long with other individuals from Bosnia and Herzegovina staying in Syria with the same intent, he participated in terrorist activities, rendered assistance and fought for ISIL forces in Syria, in the towns of Manbiy, Kobani, Raqqa and Al-Bab, within the “Bejt Commandos” unit, subsequently renamed “Al Aqsa”...
And from Balkan Insight:
Bosnia’s top court has found Jasmin Keserovic guilty of having travelled to Syria in January 2013, fought for ISIS and taken part in terrorist activities under the name Abu Muhamed Al Bosni.

According to BIRN’s analysis, courts in Bosnia have sentenced 39 people to a combined total of just over 164 years in prison for travelling to foreign battlefields and for committing, planning and preparing terrorist acts. They have acquitted three.

Bosnia sentenced foreign fighters to less than two years in prison on average.
