[NYPOST] The man charged in a machete attack on a suburban Hanukkah could face the death penalty if a comatose victim dies from his wounds, a federal prosecutor said Monday.
Grafton Thomas, 37, didn’t react visibly when Assistant US Attorney Michael Krouse raised the potential of capital punishment in the high-profile case during a court hearing in White Plains.
In response to a question from Judge Cathy Seibel, Krouse said it was unclear whether everyone injured in last month’s bloodbath would survive.
"One of the victims does remain in a coma," Krouse said.
"Other than that, we do not have a strong sense of that."
The most seriously injured victim, 72-year-old Josef Neumann, suffered a machete wound that "penetrated his skull directly into the brain," according to his family, which has said that the likelihood he will regain consciousness was slim.
"All I know is they are not very hopeful," son David Neumann tearfully told news hounds on Jan. 2.
Thomas, who’s being held without bail, also said told Magistrate Judge Paul Davison hat he was taking anti-psychotic and anti-depressant medication in jail.
Thomas — whose lawyer has said he was off his meds during the Dec. 28 rampage in Monsey — appeared lucid and cogent while answering questions from Davison, including whether he was was on any medication.
“As prescribed, I have taken Prozac, 20 [milligrams], and Latuda, 80 milligrams, at night,” Thomas said.
Sussman has denied that Thomas was motivated by hate, saying he has a lengthy history of mental illness that includes psychosis and depression, with symptoms including auditory hallucinations.
In addition to the federal charges Rockland County prosecutors have charged him with six counts of attempted murder, three counts of attempted assault and two counts of burglary.

[AlAhram] The United States will send 21 Saudi military trainees back to the Gulf kingdom after an investigation into the fatal shooting of three American sailors last month, the Justice Department announced Monday.
The 21, who the investigation found possessed jihadist material and child pornography, have been expelled from their air force training at a Florida military base, said Attorney General Bill Barr.
"The Kingdom of Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... determined that this material demonstrated conduct unbecoming an officer in the Saudi Royal Air Force and Royal Navy and the 21 cadets have been dis-enrolled from their training curriculum in the US military and will be returning to Saudi Arabia later today," Barr said.
That doesn’t sound like they’ll be getting a second chance upon return home. The Times of Israel has more here.

[NY Post] What a c**t. Almost 'Erbish Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday appeared to cast blame on President Trump and the US for the downing by Iran of a Ukrainian jetliner that was allowed to take off from Tehran following an Iranian airstrike on US troops in Iraq just hours earlier.
"I think if there were no tensions, if there was no escalation recently in the region, those Canadians would be right now home with their families," Trudeau told Global News television.
All 176 people – including 57 Canadians ‐ aboard Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 were killed when the Revolutionary Guard mistakenly fired a missile at the Boeing 737 just after takeoff from Tehran.
"This is something that happens when you have conflict and war. Innocents bear the brunt of it and it is a reminder why all of us need to work so hard on de-escalation, moving forward to reduce tensions and find a pathway that doesn't involve further conflict and killing," Trudeau continued, appearing to reference Trump's order of a drone strike that killed Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad on Jan. 2.

No comment. Don't get me started on that f-kng putz.

This is something that happens when you have conflict and war.
What a pathetic shithead.
Unfortunately we DO need to comment on this little putz because what he is attempting to do is simply inexcusable in any public official. He is consciously, deliberately re-assigning blame for criminal manslaughter -- of scores of his own country's citizens -- for this horrific crime away from a criminal regime.
A regime that has lied and continues to lie shamelessly about their own military and general staff actions, that destroyed evidence from the crime scene, that even now is trying to hinder a proper investigation.
Jolson Trudeau isn't funny anymore. He is aiding and abetting continued criminal behavior by a criminal regime.
Jolson needs to be slapped down, hard, by decent people everywhere.
[Finance.Yahoo] -Maple Leaf Foods Inc Chief Executive Officer Michael McCain criticized the U.S. government for escalating tensions in the Middle East, after an Iranian missile accidentally shot down a Ukrainian airliner killing 176 people onboard, including an employee's family.
"A MLF colleague of mine lost his wife and family this week to a needless, irresponsible series of events in Iran. U.S. government leaders unconstrained by checks/balances, concocted an ill-conceived plan to divert focus from political woes," McCain said in a tweet posted on the company's Twitter account on Sunday.
"The world knows Iran is a dangerous state, but the world found a path to contain it; not perfect but by most accounts it was the right direction," he added in a series of tweets. (Twitter Link) MLF had a bad quarter recently as the Chinese didn't buy their pork products

Lots of people trying to shop the "Wag the Dog" argument. The problem with that theory is Trump's approval ratings have been up since the impeachment circus started. Not to mention the stock market being up and unemployment down.
[The Hill] The CEO of packaged meats company Maple Leaf Foods took aim at President Trump over the downing of a Ukrainian passenger jet by Iran on Sunday, blaming the U.S. for destabilizing the region and inflaming tensions with Tehran.
In a series of scathing tweets, CEO Michael McCain wrote that he was "very angry" at Trump and blamed him for the deaths of dozens of Canadian citizens, including the family of an employee of his company, in the jet crash that Iran's government says was intentionally caused by its defensive weaponry.
"I'm Michael McCain, CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, and these are personal reflections. I am very angry, and time isn't making me less angry," he tweeted.

In April 2019, the company announced their intent to expand products that are alternatives to meat. The plan included the purchase of a 230,000-sq.-ft.processing plant in Shelbyville, Indiana. When completed in late 2020, this facility would become the largest of its kind in North America, according to the company.
Maple Leaf was already marketing meatless products such as burgers and sausages under its LightLife brand, designed to closely resemble meat in appearance and flavour. Plant-based products were being manufactured at its Greenleaf Foods SPC plant-based division in Chicago, at a LightLife plant in Massachusetts and at Field Roast’s in Seattle. The location of the new plant was logical because "more than 95 per cent of the LightLife and Field Roast business is in the United States today", according to the company.[10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maple_Leaf_Foods

Watch the stock price slowly slide downhill now that this doofus has mouthed off. Too many people up here have as the most important problem in their lives how the local hockey team will fare in the coming game(s). For the life of me I can't see how this country will stay together over the next 20 years. Of course at my advanced age I won't get to see what happens but it's still interesting to speculate. My forecast is for most of Canuckistan to become "Venezuela of the North" sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately, that won't stop the one-sided bloodbath. Unlike Iraqis, not every Persian has an AK under the bed. Absent defections from the army, the protesters are just targets.
So much for accusations that this was a spur-of-the-moment temper tantrum.

The presidential directive, which came in June, required that Trump approve the final sign-off of an operation to get Soleimani, according to NBC News.
"There have been a number of options presented to the president over the course of time," a senior administration official said in comments released Monday. The official said it was "some time ago" when the administration added killing Soleimani as an option to respond against Iran.
Officials said that then-national security adviser John Bolton and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wanted to use the option after Iran shot down a U.S. drone, but Trump denied the request.
The president made clear at the time he only wanted to kill Soleimani if the Iranians "hit Americans," according to a person who had been briefed about the discussions.

[IsraelTimes] Iraq is in negotiations with Russia to purchase the advanced S-300 air defense system, Baghdad’s ambassador to Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. An Iraqi politician said over the weekend that talks were underway for the more expensive S-400 system, according to Sputnik, but it is possible that cash-strapped Iraq is opting for the value option.
Given how well both systems have worked for Syria against Israeli attacks, at least Iraq will be acquiring a system whose flaws will be no surprise.
Iraq has previously balked at purchasing the system, fearing US sanctions. However, we can't all be heroes. Somebody has to sit on the curb and applaud when they go by... Baghdad has begun to push away from Washington since a dronezap in the capital killed Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani Russian defense official Igor Kurushchenko has cited the strike and resultant retaliatory attack, also on Iraqi soil, as a reason why Baghdad should purchase a Russian air defense system, according to UAE-based The National.
"Iraq must be able to protect itself from missiles fired from the US and Iran," he says.
Perhaps the S-300 will protect against Iranian missiles, at least.
Israel has lobbied for Russia to not sell the system to other countries in the region , expressing fears it could hamper Israeli air superiority and its missiles could be used against Israel.
[Rudaw] The US has threatened to sanction Iraq if Baghdad forces US troops to withdraw from the country. Even if this does not materialize, Iraq has a lot to lose if the US minimizes or cuts banking ties with Iraq.

Why are US troops in Iraq? To threaten Iran? Why are we in the middle of this mess?
None of it is our business. Get them out of harm's way. The whole of the Middle East isn't worth a single American's life. If you think otherwise, grab a rifle and get out there.
If you wouldn't, then why should anyone else?
