Somewhat old news, B....saw this video last summer (check out the rolling temps at the bottom of the feed... Wonder if the cops have made any progress?
The device must somehow rotate through a series of unlock transmissions simulating the key fob. To do this in 18 secs is pretty impressive..
Easy to fix, if you want to fix it. Seems to me that this is close to the bottom of car manufacturer priorities. Might be a nice aftermarket opportunity. Keep the key but change the keyless entry electronics to something more secure. Could even get all a family's car working on the same FOB and still be more secure. Hmmm...
[Washington Times] A D.C. Public Schools employee who works with disabled students was fined $1,500 Thursday for using a handicapped-parking placard that belonged to her dead grandmother in order to park for free at work. Anyone check the Social Security roles and voting records to see if granny is still receiving other benefits and privlieges ? Racist...
The D.C. Board of Ethics and Government Accountability approved the fine against Deitra Bryant Mallory, who earns a six-figure salary as director of related services for the D.C. Public Schools, officials said at the board's Thursday meeting. D.C. has a Board of Ethics ? So they fined her about 1% of her pay. That'll teach her...
Dandies is a serious understatement of this African expression of what the French call amour de soi, and I think of as being a gentleman.
They're the stars of a new Guinness campaign and are devoted to dressing like gentlemen. Stephen Doig introduces the Sapeurs, a curious sartorial society in the Republic of Congo This is the other Congo, by the way. DRC was a Belgian colony, while the present-day Republic of Congo was French. I believe that for a while it was People's Republic of Congo, but my mind gets fuzzier as I get older. Brazzaville and Kinshasa are on opposite sides of the Congo River, but they're two separate cities. As far as I know, nothing ever happens in Brazzaville Congo.
[An Nahar] Nearly 650 people were maimed during the night by exploding fireworks in the Libyan capital, where Moslems were celebrating the birth of the Prophet Mohammed, state media said Monday.
Lana news agency, quoting hospital officials in Tripoli ...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn... , said more than 640 people were hurt, many of them suffering burns to the hands and eyes. It added that some revelers had fingers amputated.
Celebrations for the birth of the prophet began Sunday night and spilled into the early hours of Monday. As per tradition, Libyans mark the religious feast with fireworks.
There are always reports of injuries at such events but experts say tolls have been higher in recent years because of lax customs controls of particularly potent fireworks imported from Asian countries.

[INDIANEXPRESS] Camera traps, cages, elephant patrols and audio recordings of mating calls -- the Tamil Nadu forest officials are trying everything possible to capture a tiger that has killed three people in the Nilgiris district so far.
Its first victim was Kavitha, 33, who lived near the forest area. Kavitha went missing on the evening of January 4. The next day, her partially-eaten body was found inside the forest. Three days later, on January 7, Chinnappan, 58, was found dead in the area.
But what changed the mood of the villagers from fear to panic was the last killing, on January 8. Muthulakshmi, 38, was attacked when she was returning home with other workers. The tiger leapt from the bushes and dragged her inside the forest, even as her co-workers made loud noises to scare the animal away.
Following this attack, the district administration shut down as many as 45 schools located near the forest area as a safety measure. The Doddabetta park, a popular tourist destination in the district, has also been closed until further notice.

Paging Mr. Jim Corbett to the white courtesy phone...
[Washington Times] Eric Holder's own elite Federal Bureau of Investigation didn't find the kind of political bias needed to file criminal charges over the Internal Revenue Service's heightened scrutiny of tea party groups, law enforcement officials told the Wall Street Journal. Shocking! The biases all escaped did they ?
"Instead, what emerged during the probe was evidence of a mismanaged bureaucracy enforcing rules about tax-exemption applications it didn't understand, according to the law-enforcement officials," Ignorance of the law and tax regulations? Ok, I got it.
Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, said Monday that his mother's charity would pay $1,000 to families naming newborns on that day after Mohammed. Monday marked the birthday of the Mohammed in the Sunni tradition. The Chechen strongman said the charity would pay the $1,000 to infants born on that day who were named in honor of Mohammed or any of his wives, children or ten companions to whom he personally promised paradise.
The idea came from Kadyrov's mother, Aimani Kadyrova, whose privately sponsored charity will be giving out the money, Kadyrov said on Instagram.
Oh? Privately sponsored by whom?
He did not specify whether children from outside Chechnya would qualify for the reward.
[China Daily Mail] Following the report of China's plans to occupy Zhongye (Pag-asa) Island (Chinese troops to seize Zhongye Island back from the Philippines in 2014), the author, Chan Kai Yee, gives his reasons why it will likely occur. Other reasons include the likelihood the Champ will do nothing.
Zhongye (Pag-asa) Island, the second largest in the South China Sea's Spratly Islands, has an area of 0.33 square km, and is of great strategic significance for China if it wants to control a vast part of the South China Sea that it claims to be its private lake territorial waters.
As the Island is located roughly in the middle of the area, if China builds an air force and naval base there, it will more easily control the sky and sea in the claimed area. At 0.33 sq. km., it's going to be a small base...
Taiping Island, the largest island there with a larger area, is a better choice. As it is controlled by Taiwan and there has so far been no prospects yet of reunification between mainland China and Taiwan, seizing Zhongye Island from the Philippines is China's top priority in the South China Sea. Two birds, one stone.
The world's largest aircraft carrier, the Ford costs $12.8 billion to build but has only a deck area of 0.026 square km. An air base established on Zhongye Island will be a dozen times larger and cost much less, but it is unsinkable and has a very long service life. Rep. Hank 'Guam' Johnson, a Georgia Democrat thinks otherwise. The Ford also, um, moves around...
The Philippines might have benefited greatly if the US had built an air base there to facilitate the US pivot to Asia and to counter China, but it is a pity that the Philippines drove the US away long ago. Actions, they have consequences.

IMO these disputes over tiny islands or islets is just a cover or catalysts for a larger geopol agenda.
In the East China Sea, I have argued that China's true focii in its dispute wid Japan over the Senkakus/Diaoyus is ITS FINAL RECOVERY + CONTROL OF TAIWAN FROM THE US- the Senkakus/Diaoyus + Okinawa, etc. ECS islands are intended to cover the Air-Sea-Space approaches to + from China's future PLA Milbases there.
In the South China Sea [SCS], China desires to ...
> Control both or all sides of trade flowing through the Straits of Malaccas, of which the SCS is the head [entrance].
> It is a fallacy as per alleged PHIL beliefs that China + PLA will NOT invade any PHIL territories. CHINA NEEDS TO DETER OR PREVENT ANY POTENT US OR US-LED, ANTI-CHINA MIL INTERVENTION FORCE [read, USN CVBGS, EBGS + USAF] FROM ARRIVING IN-THEATER(S) AMAP ASAP AFAP ALAP.
THIS MEANS CHINA MUST ELIMINATE SUBIC + CLARK AS FLANKING THREATS, + INSTALL LR ANTI-NAVAL ASBM, ANTI-AIR ASSETS IN THE PHIL, ESPEC IN THE NORTHERN PHILIPINES WHICH IS CLOSEST TO TAIWAN + ECS + SCS.
China is suppose building a ANTI-USN "SEA WALL" OF CHINA-BASED LR ASBMS, AIRPOWER, + OTHER TO DEFEND ITS INTERESTS IN NE ASIA - IFF CHINA CAN EXTENDS ITS "SEA WALL" UNTO THE RYUKYUS + NRTHERN PHIL, SO MUCH THE BETTER TO DETER OR DEFEAT US INTERVENTION.
Ultimately, What is happening is US-VS-CHINA
"GREAT POWER" GEOPOLITICS INCLUD OWG GLOBALISM, wid contemporary, "post-US" wannabe, "Mahanist" modern Commie China attempting to fulfill its perceived Manifest Destiny + carve out "spheres of influence" at the expence of the Pert, MSM-Net verified "weak/declining" USA. IT IS ALSO THE AGE OF OWG GLOBALISM WHERE CHINA IS JUST ANOTHER POTEN OWG "CO-SUPERPOWER" INTENDED BY GLOBALISTS TO HEAD PROPOSED "ASIAN/EAST ASIAN UNION",
"EURASIAN UNION", + SIMILAR.
Be it the disputed Senkakus/Diaoyus or Zhongye/Pagasa, it comes down to GREAT POWER "A2/AREA-DENIAL" [anti-access, area- denial].
Weeelll, China can't achieve the above unless US Milbases are either peacefully = diplomatically removed, or in altern destroyed in war. POLITICAL DIALECTICISM = CHINA WILL LIKELY ATTEMPT TO DO BOTH OR ALL TO ACHIEVE ITS GOALS. DITTO AS PER IRAN OR ANY OTHER GEOPOL WANNABE, IN HISTOIRE" OR NOW.
China sees US Milbases all around its coasts, but no PLA Milbases near US Coasts - THE US-VS-CHINA "STATUS QUO" IN ASIA-PACIFIC M-U-S-T CHANGE IFF CHINA + GLOBIES ARE TO ACHIEVE THEIR AGENDAS, ALA SO-CALLED US-CHINA "SHARING THE PACIFIC".
Again, in this age of OWG Globalism China's greatest single ace or advantage over the US is alleged Marxist-Anarchist-Globalist POTUS OBAMA, AKA THE MAN = MIGHTY "WHATS A RED LINE(S)?/WHOSE RED LINE IS THAT - OOOPPS, ITS MINE!?" AMERICAN/
AMERIKAN LEADER IN CHARGE OF AMERICA'S MILITARY RESPONSE ANDOR COUNTER-RESPONSE - OR LACK THEREOF - TO ANYTHING CHINA, ETAL. MILPOL DOES IN EAST ASIA-PACIFIC OR AROUND THE WORLD.
STAY ARMED, PRAY HARD + KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED.

"OVERSEAS BASES" = the underlying or covert crux of "CHINA-VS-JAPAN/PHIL/EVERYBODY" in East Asia, to include as per India + Inidan Ocean Region.
Perhaps the US = USDOD can allow RusNav + JMSDF warships to be supplied andor repaired here in GUAM, CNMI, as one way to deter China + PLA - Japan is already setting up a detachment on CNMI's Tinian?
Iff the people of Guam desire to stay wid America as I'm often told, then by definition its in their interest to improve + entrench its political relationship/status wid the US, + ensure that the US stays in WESTPAC despite all threats or comers.
Lest we fergit, ITS NO LONGER US-VS-CHINA ONLY NOW IN ASIA-PACIFIC, BUT THE US-VS-CHINA-VS-NUCLEAR-ISLAM. RIGHT BEHIND "POST-US" WANNABE CHINA WILL BE OWG CALIPHATE-HAPPY NUCLEAR ISLAM = MUSLIMS.
* INDIAN DEFENCE FORUM > TAIWAN'S SUB-LAUNCHED HARPOONS POSES NEW CHALLENGE TO CHINA'S INVASION PLANS.
Good for Taiwan, but China's real threat stems from its FIRST-STRIKE AIRBORNE, SPECOPS FORCES.
Lest we fergit, CHINA = has times stated that HIGH OR EXCESSIVE PLA COMBAT CASUALTIES IS NOT A MAJOR/DECISIVE [important] FACTOR TO THEM - WHAT MATTERS IS THAT TAIWAN IS CONQUERED.

[FT] Turkey is seeking to increase control over internet access at a time when the government is also tightening its grip on the country's legal institutions in response to a corruption scandal.
Controlling access to the internet is hard, especially when one's people have access to satellite phones, uncontrolled neighbors, and programming skillz... and they've realized they're mad as hell and don't want to take it any more. (Those of you who are snickering can just stop. Turkey is neither Saudi Arabia nor Afghanistan, you know.)
A legislative proposal put forward by the ruling AK party would give the transport and communication minister the power to block websites deemed to infringe privacy, as well as compelling internet service providers to retain information of their customers' movements on the net.
The measure, attached to an omnibus bill, increasing its chances of passage, would also require ISPs to restrict access to proxy sites, which can allow users to circumvent censorship.
Turkey already has internet filters intended to protect children and made 1,673 requests for Google ...contributed $814,540 to the 2008 Obama campaign... to remove material from the web in the first six months of last year -- more than three times any other country -- although most of its requests were turned down.
But some critics have alleged that the legislative initiative is part of a general trend in which the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan ... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi only they haven't dumped him yet... , prime minister, is concentrating more power in the wake of a corruption investigation that has targeted a host of figures connected to the government, including four former ministers and Mr Erdogan's own son, Bilal.

Given how successful Assad has been in trying to shut down the opposition via modern communications technology, Erdogen isn't likely to be any more successful.
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A man was rubbed out in the emergency ward of Benazir Bhutto ... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in... Hospital (BBH) where he was brought after he clashed with his friend over a petty dispute in Dhoke Elahi Bax on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The dispute started over vacating a house which Asif Mehmood, a real estate agent, had rented out to his friend Kasheer Khan.
According to a senior police official, Asif had started bickering with Kaheer's wife over vacating the house, which infuriated the latter.
Both men then started quarrelling and also fired gunshots which resulted in the injuries of both men. In the crossfire, Asif's 25-year-old son Bilal was also injured.
Kasheer was struck down in his prime while Asif was shifted to BBH and Bilal to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, police said.
They added that while Asif was in the hospital's emergency ward where he was being given first aid, another friend of Kasheer, Roshan Khan, entered and shot Asif dead on the hospital bed with the help of his accomplice.
The killing of an injured victim on the hospital bed was the first of its kind which sparked panic and fear among other patients and the hospital staff, police added.
According to police sources, Roshan Khan's accomplice beat feet from the hospital through the emergency ward's window, while Roshan Khan was apprehended by the police deputed in the hospital.
Police then had to call the Elite Force commandoes at DHQ hospital where Bilal was being treated as they feared that the accomplice would target Asif's son.
However, a clean conscience makes a soft pillow... the reinforcement of police and commandoes averted any tragedy as heavy deployment was made outside the emergency ward of DHQ hospital.
According to the doctors treating Bilal at DHQ hospital, the 25-year-old had little chance of survival as he had sustained a serious bullet injury to his head.
A senior police official, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that: "Today's clash between two friends which resulted in the death of both had no links with previous murders in Dhoke Elahi Bax. However, a clean conscience makes a soft pillow... police was deployed in the area to avert any further clash."
Till the filing of this report, none of the heirs of the two men has contacted the police to lodge a murder case, he said.
In addition, the official said police had been deployed at the hospital to avert further festivities. "The bodies of the dear departed were removed to DHQ hospital for postmortem," he added.

At first I thought this was a story about ObamaCare.
The mad scientists at Darpa have done it again. The Pentagons research group has announced a new system that could help U.S. troops and multinational forces communicate a problem that frequently plagued the countries cooperation in the field.
Darpas nearly-completed Mobile Ad-Hoc Interoperability Gateway (MAINGATE) is said to overcome the technical incompatibilities between communications systems. Darpa awarded Raytheon an initial $155 million contract back in 2009.
"The system relies on two technologies to provide an interoperable network for connecting forces. A high capacity Wireless IP Network (WIPN) radio provides a terrestrial Everything over IP backbone with enough capacity to simultaneously support many channels of voice, video and data. The second is MAINGATEs Interoperability Gateway, which provides inter-connectivity for otherwise incompatible communications equipment. According to Raytheon, MAINGATE provides 10 megabits per second to a network of as many as 128 nodes that could include drones, ships, bases and vehicles on the ground."

As much as I have railed against the police state that has developed with these paramilitary forces... this is a good example of how they should be used and how good they can be when used properly.
They should stick to doing this rather than doing no knock raids on little old ladies houses because someone thought she had a pot plant in the back yard.
