U.S. airports will soon begin turning away flyers without upgraded ID
Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A major security change at U.S. airports that can prevent passengers from boarding their flights is less than a year away.

The upgrade is part of a federal law passed in 2005 that calls for a more secure form of ID for the tens of millions of flyers in the United States each year,

Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, all U.S. air travelers will be required to present identification compliant with the Real ID Act. The program has been gradually rolled out on a state-by-state basis over the last 14 years, but hasn't yet been federally mandated for all states. That will change a year from now.

The law establishes a new set of minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses and ID cards -- based on a recommendation by the 9/11 Commission in 2004. Beginning next October, travelers will not be able to board any domestic flight without an upgraded Real ID card -- denoted by a star in the upper right corner.

Proof of citizenship needed for a passport. Quite obviously passports are racist.

#5  Actually, passports may be obtainable for the 1 million+ illegals who've stolen Social Security #s from citizens. Just depends on how well maintained are State's databases for those who've suffered identity theft. I wouldn't assume they're well maintained and completely accurate in this area.

#6  Depends on whose passport you're referring to.

#7  The mess that will create at airport will be ruinous as most people won't be prepared and will freak when turned away. This will cause the Feds to push back the date of compliance giving everyone another month or two to get their ID.

Also a compliance date of OCT is as stupid as you can get as you'll cause a fuss throughout the holidays. A compliance date of Feb/March on the other hand allows you to bombard the holiday travelers with last chance notes.

#8  The Real ID deadline has never been a secret. The states that said "it would cost too much" were told that wasn't an excuse. There have been deadline extensions already. Those of us with Real ID say "Your lack of planning does not constitute a crisis on our part."

#10  M. Murcek you may be factually right, but I'm betting the americans that don't pay attention to anything causing major hassles by showing up without the correct ID.

#11  I'm not saying it's the fault of individuals necessarily. It most certainly is the fault of every state that resisted implementing Real ID on a timely basis. Yes, it's going to cause problems at the airport just like the people who bring their stuff to the post office and think packing supplies are free at the counter. I see it all the time. Such people really don't deserve anyone's sympathy. The disruption can be minimized by not letting people without Real ID inside the terminal to begin with. Harsh if it derails someone's holiday? Afraid so.

Bangladesh
RAB detains Samrat’s business partner in Bhola
[Dhaka Tribune] The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained an associate of expelled Jubo League
... the youth wing of the Bangla Awami League...
leader Ismail Hossain Samrat
...Oooh, a three-namer! He must be important...
from the Ilish Ferry Ghat in Bhola Sadar upazila
...if you go down to the last file cabinet in the second sub-basement at the local RAB headquarters, you’ll find a 3:1 map of the upazilla, folded up small. When you unfold it — take it outside on a windless, sunny day or you will undo all the work that went into making the thing, about which certain parties will not be even slightly amused — the location of Ilish Ferry Ghat will be immediately apparent....
on Wednesday.

The detained, Zakir Hossain
...clearly a putz of a two-namer, but at least his parents could afford the second one...
, 45, was Samrat’s business partner.

RAB also recovered a pistol, four rounds of bullet, four bottles of liquor, two mobile phones, and Tk1,160 from the scene.
Score! Usually it’s three round of bullet and a shutter gun, nothing more. Sergeant Siddique’s evidence room must be full to bursting for him to put out like that.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhola model cop shoppe, Enayet Hossain, told the Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tipoff,
*Ring, ring* “Mahmoud the Weasel here. I have a tipoff for the boys.”
RAB-8 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Zakir when he was trying to flee the area."
“There he goes, boys! The first one to catch him gets an extra biscuit with his tea while polishing the rounds of bullet in the evidence room.”
“On it, Sarge.”
“On it, Sarge.”
“Meeee — that biscuit is mine! Coming through, boys, I want that biscuit!”
Zakir, from Shantinagar, Dhaka,
...he was led astray by the fancy girls and pretty boys of the big city...
was in hiding for 10 days at his grandfather-in-law’s house after Samrat’s arrest, the OC added.
He shared the crawlspace under the veranda with a goodly collection of the local snakes and mongooses, so it wasn’t a restful situation. He was honestly happy to be caught, poor man.
RAB has filed two separate cases with Bhola model cop shoppe in this connection, one under the Arms Act 1878 and the other under Narcotics Control Act 1990.
*Blink* That’s a heckuva time range. The Arms Act 1878 must be a pip if it’s still in use.
ARREST OF CASINO KINGPIN SAMRAT
RAB arrested Samrat and his accomplice Arman from Comilla’s Chauddagram upazila on October 6.
A business partner and a henchman? When did our illustrious three-namer have time to sleep?
A mobile court, led by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam, sentenced Samrat to six months in prison under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2012, after they recovered two kangaroo hides from his Kakrail office.
Good lord. The RAB has a dedicated court on wheels now? It makes sense, I suppose — they were up to fourteen RAB units the last time we looked in on them, and expanding rapidly. Everyone wanted an RAB of their very own, with their cool sunglasses and efficient handling of miscreants of all sorts, including river pirates.
He was then sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

War crime verdict against Azhar Thursday
[Dhaka Tribune] The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on war criminal and former Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, in his death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
appeal, on October 31.

The case has been kept at the top of the cause-list of the Appellate Division for Thursday, as seen on Wednesday.

On January 28, 2015, Azharul filed his appeal challenging the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) verdict that sentenced him to death.

Earlier on June 18, a four-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, started hearing arguments on the appeal from both the state and the defense.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
the bench completed the hearing and deferred the matter as a Case Awaiting Verdict (CAV) on July 10.

On December 30, 2014, ICT-1 sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam to death for his war crimes. The tribunal found him guilty in five of the six charges against him.

Azhar, with Jamaat and Chhatra Sangha activists, collaborated with the Pakistain Army and attacked villages in Rangpur on April 17, 1971.

They torched and looted houses and killed over 1,200 Hindus. Another 200 Hindus were held and later killed at an undisclosed location. The incident is said to be the single biggest act of genocide in the war.

French far-rightist, 84, charged in mosque shooting
[IsraelTimes] BAYONNE, La Belle France ‐ An octogenarian accused of wounding two men in a shooting at a mosque in southern La Belle France has been charged and ordered held in detention, the prosecutor’s office says.

Claude Sinke
...on the occasion of his misadventure written as Claude Sinké...
, who stood as a candidate for the far-right National Rally in 2015 regional elections, tried to set fire to a mosque in Bayonne in the southwest on Monday, and shot two men, aged 74 and 78, who came out to investigate.

On Tuesday, Sherlocks said the 84-year-old had wanted to avenge the burning of Notre Dame cathedral in Gay Paree in April, which he blamed on Moslems.

They said there were questions about his mental health.

The prosecutor’s office says in a statement that Sinke, who risks life imprisonment, is now being held on attempted murder, arson, and gun violence charges. Being charged does not necessarily mean a suspect will go to trial.

Monday’s attack further unsettled La Belle France, already engulfed in a sometimes bitter debate about the observance of Islam in the secular country.

The shooting came just hours after President Emmanuel Macron had urged Moslems to step up the fight against what he called Islamic "separatism."

Investigators have said the Notre Dame fire was an accident. There has never been any suggestion of arson.
... not officially, anyway. There has been plenty of unofficial speculation, and very probably certain parties made claims and were seen rejoicing.
Sinke was put through two days of psychological tests to determine whether he understood what he had done and can be put on trial for acting with intent.

He has admitted the crimes, Sherlocks say.

His victims, one of whom was hit in the neck and the other in the chest, were in a stable condition in hospital, local authorities said Tuesday.

Israeli FM Katz to ask Greece to join Israel in aiding Kurds
[IsraelTimes] Foreign Minister Israel Katz begins a state visit to Greece, where he is slated to meet with his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias.

According to Katz’s office, he will ask Athens to join in an Israeli initiative to offer humanitarian aid to the Kurds in northern Syria, who are facing a Ottoman Turkish incursion into the country amid a withdrawal of US forces.

Turkey’s Erdogan: U.S. Armenian Genocide Recognition ‘Worthless’
[BREITBART] Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
condemned the U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday for passing a bill recognizing the Armenian Genocide and condemning the Ottoman Turkish government for executing it, calling the bill "worthless."

The House passed the bill in tandem with a bill urging sanctions on Erdogan’s government for its invasion of Syria, intended to displace indigenous Kurdish populations and replace them with mostly Arab refugees.

The Ottoman Turkish government has consistently refused to recognize the genocide of Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek people that took place in 1915, considered the first genocide of modern history. Erdogan referred to the genocide as "reasonable" in a speech in April.

According to the independent Ottoman Turkish exile outlet Ahval, Erdogan said The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
did not "recognize" the House bill in remarks Wednesday.

"This step taken has no value. And we do not recognise it. We see such an accusation as the greatest insult made to our nation," Erdogan reportedly said, describing America as "a country whose history is filled with stains of genocide, slavery and exploitation," without elaborating.

Agence La Belle France-Presse (AFP) translated Erdogan’s remark as dismissing the bill as "worthless."

Arizona Democrat Party Chair: President Trump ‘Has Aligned Himself with ISIS’
By killing the ISIS Number 1 and his nearest aides and bodyguards, confiscating all the records and devices in his compound, and incidentally offing his Number #2, away at the time preparing the next hidey hole situated under the watchful eye of Turkey?
[BREITBART] Arizona Democrat Party Chairman Felecia Rotellini falsely claimed Saturday that President Donald Trump “has aligned himself with ISIS.”
Pay attention to MEEEEE!
Rotellini’s remarks were made during a discussion at the Citizens Clean Elections Commission’s “We the Voters” conference, which was held at the Phoenix Convention Center, an hour before the White House announced the killing of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

“Another reason that people are going to vote, because Donald Trump is manipulating that White House and has aligned himself with ISIS and Saudi Arabia,” Rotellini claimed before she was cut off by Arizona Republican Party Chairman Dr. Kelli Ward.

India-Pakistan
Jammu and Kashmir ceases to be a state. Split into two Union Territories
The view from India. See the view from Pakistan in the next article, below.
[TimesOfIndia] NEW DELHI: At the stroke of midnight, Jammu & Kashmir ceased to be a state of the Union, making way for two new Union territories of J&K and Ladakh. This marks an important milestone in the history of J&K and, especially, Kashmir Valley’s tense ties with the rest of the country, and culminates the process which started on August 5 with the landmark announcement for emasculation of Article 370 as well as end of statehood for J&K.
Note that the Kashmir region accounts for 15.8% of the area and 54.9% of the population while the Jammu region accounts for 25.9% of the area and 42.9% of the population. The Ladakh region has 2.2% of the population but 58.3% of the area. (Figures from Census of 2011). If Hindu dominated Jammu region begins to agitate for freedom from Kashmir, only 15.8% of the erstwhile J+K state will be left.
This also put to an end to J&K’s flag and constitution, symbols of the state’s special status. With October 31 fixed as the appointed day for reorganisation of J&K, the new lieutenant governors of the two UTs — G C Murmu in J&K and R K Mathur in Ladakh — will be sworn in at separate ceremonies in Srinagar and Leh, respectively.

The creation of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh coincides with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, credited with the merger of over 560 states with the Indian Union and who has been promoted by the Modi government as the embodiment of national unity and muscular nationalism.

#2  If Hindu dominated Jammu region begins to agitate for freedom from Kashmir

The incumbent party may try to bring about such an agitation, now that you mention it. But it'd be a daft thing to do on their part. The recent defeat in the block council polls in J&K to local independents may motivate them to such an error. I hope it won't.

If we ride this out, keeping the kashmiri islamists out of power and the restive locals in semi-quarantine, that 54.9% can be brought to include more religious groups by next year.

The religious demographic of Jammu is complex and keeping it with Kashmir (where it has been ever since the British bought Kashmir valley from the Sikhs and gave it to the Dogra rulers of Jammu) prevents a situation developing where a hostile political class dominates an administrative unit of India. Ladakh is protected by 89,000 Indo-Tibetan Police and XVI Corps of the Indian army (being reorganized into integrated battle groups). Two other Corps protect Jammu and Kashmir

India moves to divide occupied Jammu and Kashmir amid harsh security clampdown, protests
The view from Pakistan. The view from India can be seen in the previous article, above.
[DAWN] India will formally split up occupied Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
into two federal territories on Thursday, aiming to tighten its grip on the restive region that has been in the grip of a harsh security clampdown for nearly three months.

Street protests against the measures have erupted sporadically, while a dozen people have been killed in recent weeks.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist government withdrew occupied Kashmir’s autonomy in August but in addition, it also announced its division into two territories to be directly ruled from New Delhi ‐ one consisting of Jammu and Kashmir and the other the remote Buddhist enclave of Ladakh.

At the same time, it poured thousands of more troops into the Moslem-majority Kashmir valley where Kashmiris have been fighting against Indian rule for decades, and made sweeping arrests to prevent any outbreak of violence.

#2  The disempowerment of islamists became a realistic target, by equalizing the unfair distribution of representative power in the state. Splitting it up also isolates the majorly muslim part from the un-troublesome secular ones, and the removal of special status allows non-salafist candidates to represent the region.

The silencing of insurgent and secessionist leaderships was more important than the islamophile whimsies of liberals and global media. 26 elements of varying fealty have already been offed in the valley, some of the tricky ones are disguised as regular folks or embedded with families for some years.

#3  I could be wrong but I'd understood Kashmir had Hindu leadership but a primarily Muslim population and the other article indicated Jammu had a high hindu population. If true division would seem logical although it might make it harder for India to justify Kashmir as being Indian property if a super-majority of the population wants to be poor militant Pakistani.

#4  ...if a super-majority of the population wants to be poor militant Pakistani.

That's just it, rjschwarz. They don't. And the ones who do, their voices don't matter to us. No, Kashmir doesn't have any hindu leadership as yet, and establishing that will be very hard, not to mention violent.

Some background.

Before the adventurism of Pakistain in the 80s, the two communities were intertwined such as to be inseparable. The 'Stain's attacks were fought off by muslims as well as hindus until '71. In the 80s, the clerics of the Jamaat, emboldened by CIA largesse began to take liberties in the subcontinent. They fueled secession through islamism and jihad, wiping out the hindus from the Kashmir portion and occupying their properties and businesses. They could not maintain a foothold in the Jammu region simply because there were more masjids in Kashmir and more temples in Jammu. Are we learning, world ?

They could not dilute the solidarity of most localities, even within Kashmir. The Kashmiris just lay low under imposed sharia for years, while their children grew in that environment. Their causes and themes were tutored by the Jamaats who borrowed from the 'paleostine' cause of Arab youth. The majority on the Kashmir side today are a different people, educated on the internet by Paki mullahs, aided and abetted by Qatari and Saudi money (college fees, scholarships, NGOs etc). These elements grew richer and more connected, as the nationalist generation grew older, the voices of reason faded into the background. Which is why if you talk to any old resident of the valley they'll just shrug and give you a hopeless look; but you talk to a 'yute' from kashmir they'll launch into a spittle rain about everything from islamophobia to Che Guevara.

It is these rebels that have the loudest voices, web presence, jobs in globalist media, aides and campaign staffers of western politicians. And that's why the narrative is skewed toward 'India is oppressing Kashmiris'. According to them we should leave them alone to build a caliphate there.

And we'll kill every last one if necessary but all Kashmir will one day chant stupid hindu chants, by Gawd.☺

North Korean malware found on Indian nuclear plant's network
[ZDNET] The network of one of India's nuclear power plants was infected with malware created by North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
's state-sponsored hackers, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) confirmed today.

News that the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP) might have been infected with a dangerous strain of malware first surfaced on Twitter on Monday.

Pukhraj Singh, a former security analyst for India's National Technical Research Organization (NTRO), pointed out that a recent VirusTotal upload was actually linked to a malware infection at the KNPP.

The particular malware sample included hardcoded credentials for KNPP's internal network, suggesting the malware was specifically compiled to spread and operate inside the power plant's IT network.

Several security researchers identified the malware as a version of Dtrack, a backdoor trojan developed by the Lazarus Group, North Korea's elite hacking unit.

Singh's tweet and revelation immediately went viral because just days before, the same power plant had an unexpected shutdown of one of its reactors -- with many users conflating the two unrelated incidents as one.

Initially, KNPP officials denied that they've suffered any malware infection, issuing a statement to describe the tweets as "false information," and that a cyber-attack on the power plant was "not possible."

US, Gulf allies sanction Hezbollah-Iran network
[IsraelTimes] The United States and six Gulf allies announce sanctions on 25 entities associated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Leb’s Hezbollah, in a move to tighten controls on both groups’ finances.

The sanctions are set by Riyadh-based Terrorist Financing Targeting Center, a two-year-old group that includes Soddy Arabia

and the United Arab Emirates in addition to the United States.

They target companies supporting the Basij Resistance Force, a subordinate group of the Revolutionary Guard, that the US Treasury says are used "to oppress domestic opposition with brutal displays of violence" and supply fighters to regional conflicts.

Among the 25 is Iranian Bank Mellat and mining, manufacturing and investment firms that allegedly support the Basij.

Four of those listed are individuals running Hezbollah’s operations in Iraq, the Treasury says.

All 25 have previously been named in US Treasury sanctions announced in 2018.

"The TFTC’s coordinated disruption of the financial networks used by the Iranian regime to fund terrorism is a powerful demonstration of Gulf unity," says US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a statement. "This action demonstrates the unified position of the Gulf nations and the United States that Iran

Israel-Jordan Crisis Emboldens Anti-Peace Camp In Kingdom
Catching up on a story that didn’t seem meaningful until now. Idiots regularly wander across various borders over there (an Israeli was picked up crossing into Jordon recently, Hamas is holding several mentally handicapped Israelis who go back every time they’re released, for reasons unknown, and Egypt has returned several Israelis who forgot to remove that last bullet from their luggage after their annual IDF Reserves training before heading off to see the pyramids), without it being particularly noteworthy.
[Jpost] Jordan’s decision to recall its ambassador to Israel in protest against the detention of two Jordanian citizens came in the context of the kingdom’s effort to fend off widespread criticism over its handling of the case.

The decision, announced on Tuesday by Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, is also another sign of mounting tensions between Jordan and Israel, 25 years after the two countries signed a "Treaty of Peace" in the Arava Valley.

The Jordanian ambassador, Ghassan al-Majali, arrived on Wednesday in Amman, where he is scheduled to hold consultations with senior government officials about the crisis with Israel.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US secrecy on Baghdadi raid exposes distrust of NATO ally Turkey
[France24] Islamic State (IS) group chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was found and killed over the weekend in northern Syria just a few miles from the Turkish border in a US raid that evaded the Turkey’s Incirlik base, in a sign of the increasing distrust between US and Turkish militaries.
Kinda exactly like the lack of trust in the Paks during the Abottabad attack
The compound where Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was targeted early Sunday is located near the village of Barisha in northwestern Syria barely three miles from the Turkish border in Idlib, a province that has come to be known as "the last refuge of Syrian rebels" resisting President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

But it was an odd last refuge for the self-styled "caliph" of the IS group ‐ one that underscores the conflicting interests of the players, and their backers, in the Syrian war. While the international community has welcomed Baghdadi’s killing, his location and the manner in which the US raid was planned and executed highlights the security threats that still dog the region and beyond.

Barisha village lies in a zone marked "rebel control" on Syrian battle maps, and is where an estimated three million people, mostly civilians, coexist with a witch’s brew of jihadist groups, including al Qaeda’s Syrian branch and a number of allied or warring factions. Most of them are mortal rivals of the IS group.

Turkey has about a dozen military observation posts in Idlib that monitor the rebel area, where the Turkish-backed rebel Free Syrian Army ‐ now confusingly called the National Syrian Army (NSA) ‐ also operate.

Ankara has emerged as a guarantor of sorts for the Idlib pocket, after Turkey negotiated a ceasefire with Russia and Iran in May under the Astana process. The deal saw the establishment of a buffer zone, which Turkey wanted, to protect Idlib residents from Assad’s offensive.

In return, Turkey was required to remove all jihadist groups, including al Qaeda affiliates and breakaway groups, from the province.

#3  Trump and Putin tried to be friends. They still share a nonchalant camaraderie. But while Russia is Putin, Trump is not America. The collusion scandal when it began, looked to me like a desperate way to distance the American president from Russia forever, by a deepState haunted by McCarthy's ghost.

Then they saw a coup in it and went for the jugular. It never looked like a well thought out scam anyway, more like a script written on-set. Trump had to posture for no reason in Venezuela for some time and you were once again officially at odds with them.

But that's just one perspective, considering the effects and not means of things.

Turkey sees YPG withdrawal incomplete; joint Russian patrols to start Friday
[AlAhram] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
has information that the Kurdish YPG militia has not completed its withdrawal to 30 km (18.64 miles) from the Ottoman Turkish border in northeast Syria, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, despite assurances from Russia that they had left.

He told politicians from his AK Party that Turkey reserved the right to launch another operation against the YPG in the area.

Ankara and Moscow had agreed to remove Kurdish YPG fighters from a depth of 30 km south of the border inside Syria by late on Tuesday and Russia told Turkey that the YPG had left the strip within the 150-hour deadline.

"Even though the information in our hands suggests this has not been succeeded in a full sense, we will give our response to them after our field assessments," he said.

Joint patrols had been set to begin on Tuesday at a depth of 10 km, but Erdogan said in Wednesday's speech that the patrols would begin on Friday and at a depth of just 7 km.
It will be interesting to see whether the dynamic is different than that of recent joint U.S.-Turkey patrols.
"If we see that the members of the terrorist organization have not been moved out of the 30 km, or if attacks continue, no matter from where, we reserve our right to carry out our own operation," he said.

Earlier, Defence Minister Hulusi Akar was quoted by state-owned Anadolu Agency as saying that talks between Ottoman Turkish and Russian officials, ongoing since Monday, had concluded and the two delegations had "largely" reached an agreement.

Damascus calls on Kurdish forces to join regime army, police
[IsraelTimes] Syria’s army and police call on Kurdish fighters and security forces in northeast Syria to join their ranks following a Ottoman Turkish cross-border incursion, state media says.

The appeal comes after regime troops deployed along parts of Syria’s northeastern border in a deal with Kurdish authorities to help stave off the Ottoman Turkish offensive, launched October 9.

It is the largest Syrian army deployment in the area since 2012.

A separate ceasefire agreement reached between Ankara and Damascus-backer Moscow last week provided for members of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces to withdraw from the border and solidified the presence of pro-government forces there.

"The general command of the armed forces is ready to welcome members of SDF units who are willing to join its ranks," says a Syrian defense ministry statement carried by state news agency SANA. It says all Syrians, including the Kurdish minority, are confronting "one enemy."
OMG!!! Hardened troops, trained by America’s best, bringing modern American weapons with them??? Come to Papa, my darlings, come!”
Syria’s interior ministry says it is willing to provide police services to residents of the northeast, calling on members of the Kurdish internal security services, known as Asayish, to join its ranks, SANA reports.

The Ottoman Turkish military and its Syrian proxies attacked Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria in early October with the aim of creating a roughly 30-kilometer (20-mile) deep buffer zone along the frontier. Left in the lurch by a US troop withdrawal from the border area, Kurdish forces turned to the Syrian government for protection.

Hariri said willing to return as Lebanon PM, if given power to implement reforms
Say hello to the new boss, same as the old boss...
[IsraelTimes] Resigned Lebanese PM Saad Hariri is reportedly willing to return to the post ‐ with some conditions, according to a source speaking to the Rooters news service today.

Hariri was asked today by Leb’s President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
to stay on in a caretaker capacity, but may be willing to remain a full-fledged PM if his new cabinet "includes technocrats and [will] be capable of quickly implementing reforms needed to stave off economic collapse," Rooters reports.

The agency explains Leb’s dire political situation:

"Hariri resigned after nearly two weeks of massive protests against the political elite, accused by demonstrators of overseeing rampant state corruption, saying he had hit a ’dead end’ in trying to resolve the crisis.

"The bigwig, who declined to be identified, said any new cabinet led by Hariri should be devoid of a group of top-tier politicians who were in the outgoing coalition government, without naming them.

"The outgoing cabinet comprised top representatives of most of Leb’s sectarian parties, among them foreign minister Gebran Bassil of the Christian Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
who has been a prominent target of protesters. Bassil is a political ally of the powerful Iran-backed Shi’ite group Hezbollah, which had opposed the government’s resignation and has yet to comment on the resignation of Hariri, a long-time opponent of the group."

Informant who fingered Baghdadi likely to reap huge reward
[IsraelTimes] An informant who provided crucial details on the movements of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
leader killed in a US commando raid, is likely to scoop up some or all of a $25 million reward, the Washington Post reports.

The Post says the informant was a well-placed Islamic State operative who facilitated Baghdadi’s movements around Syria and helped oversee the construction of his Syrian hideout.

US special operations commandos struck the hideout overnight Saturday, swooping in on helicopters and chasing the IS founder into a tunnel where he detonated a boom jacket, according to the US account of the raid.

The Post says the informant was at the scene as the raid unfolded, and was exfiltrated two days later with his family. The man, who was not identified, was likely to receive some or all of the $25 million reward the US had put on Baghdadi’s head, it says. Besides Baghdadi’s movements, the informant knew the room-by-room layout of Baghdadi’s final Syrian hideout, according to the Post.

The newspaper says the source, described by one official as a Sunni Arab who turned against IS after a relative was killed by the group, was cultivated by Kurdish intelligence.

The Kurds eventually turned control over him to the Americans, who spent weeks establishing his credibility before seizing an opportunity that came up in the past month to launch the raid, according to the Post.

Imprisoned Islamic State Jihadis Carrying AIDS, Other Diseases Ask for Return to West
