Woman trampled to death by wild elephants
Wild elephants trampled a tribal woman to death at village Dhopajuri in Haluaghat, a frontier upazila of the district on Saturday night.
Gawd, I hate it when that happens.
The victim was identified as Alpana Chirang, 25, wife of Abdul Khaleque. Alpana fell victim as a herd of wild elephants from across the Indian border entered the village at around 11:00pm and started ransacking the houses to eat stored paddy, police and locals said.
"C'mon, boyz! Let's go trample somebody and steal all their paddy!"
"Good idea, Jumbo!"
Alpana's one and a half year-old daughter was also injured. Later the villagers chased the elephants away.

#1  Them are African elephants in um pictures. Not that it matters of course. I advise opening your house and giving up your good if they are come for your paddy.

Altho I think DeaconMan is have a 3' Ordinance Gun that might work.

#2  Guess the elephants aren't getting enough to eat in their natural habitat, which is probably being destroyed and taken over by humans. Sincerely sorry for Mrs. Chirang, but any animal species will become aggressive if threatened and hungry.

Belgian prime minister fails to win third term
The Belgian prime minister was drummed out of office last night in a general election likely to produce a new coalition led by Christian Democrats. Guy Verhofstadt, a liberal, had been fighting for a third term after eight years in office, but his party slumped to third place.

The Christian Democrats in Flanders, the northern and larger part of the country, emerged as the strongest party with about 30% of the regional vote. Weeks of horse-trading were inevitable as a result of the complex electoral and constitutional system. The chances are that there will be no new governing coalition until after the summer break.

The Belgian political system is unusual in that there are effectively no national parties running to govern the country as a result of Belgium's divide into the larger Dutch-speaking region of Flanders and the southern Francophone area of Wallonia, as well as the fact that voting is compulsory in the country of more than 10 million.

In Flanders, the Christian Democrats won, with their leader and the region's prime minister, Yves Leterme, tipped to become the national prime minister. Flanders usually puts up the prime minister. The hard-right, anti-immigrant and separatist Vlaams Belang, or Flemish Interest party, came second in Flanders, slightly increasing its vote. The mainstream parties have agreed to maintain a "cordon sanitaire" around the Flemish nationalists to keep them out of power. But Mr Leterme advanced his electoral prospects by bowing to the nationalist agenda, campaigning for a stricter separation between wealthy Flanders and poorer Wallonia.
So the Phlegms have it over the Loonies!
"It is time for change. People want a different course," he told his jubilant party faithful last night.

#1  My wife, who is Flemish, told me last night that according to her relatives it looked like the CDV was back in business. Believe it or not, this is good news. I imagine a lot of people in France, Germany and Belgium have been reading Mark Steyn's book and their eyes finally stopped drooping. The problem is that if they don't do something about the Islamists and immigration with this government it will only make Vlamms Belang get bigger and more important politically. Its going to be hard to keep them from flexing muscle.
