Why do people think they can enter the country without proof of citizenship during time of war? These bozos deserve to be put through the ICE mill if they come back with only a driver's license.

I saw this coming a mile away, back when it was first decided. Years ago, before 9-11, getting a passport, a service with a fixed, known demand, took 2-3 months, due to a perpetual bureaucratic backlog.
Suddenly, the same bureaucracy was told that 4-5 million extra people were going to need passports, and all at the same time, but giving no extra assets to the bureaucracy to generate them.
Surprise, it can't be done.
I suspect that it will be "temporarily suspended" until Bush leaves office, then it will be quietly dropped. Mostly because it horribly clogs the major Canadian and Mexican crossings. A bunch of people cross there four or five times a day, living on one side and working on the other.
On top of everything else, a passport now costs $100 for an adult and $85 for a child, including the pictures. Not a whole lot of people are happy about having to shell out $400 for their family to do something that was not only previously free, but almost as secure, if you had other ID, like your driver's license.

The beltway is just playing a bunch of phantom games that have no connection with reality. They live in some kind of unreal vacuum. It is about cheap labor and cheap votes. If Kennedy's immigration bill had been passed, the Republican Party would have been destroyed. We would have had a one party system as the immigrant vote would have gone to the dhimmicrats. I don't know what the trunks were thinking or if they were. Maybe Bush traded Iraq funding for immigration bill support.

They need to change from all or nothing release 0.02 laws and switch to a release/engineered/process oriented law process.
Then you would have border law 0.7 move up eventually to 1.0 followed by point releases until you decide to do a partial rewrite of the engine (leaving the features essentially the same) for 2.0 followed by 2.1 etc...
Odd point releases can be test releases even actual.
Or is true process beyond the brain power of the idiots in congress and the senate?

End of story, Natural Law. Did the same thing years ago, got mine in about a week. Any smart American always has a valid passport at the ready. Too many people are untraveled and sufficiently unworldly to where they do not understand the importance of having a valid passport at hand. This is an example of poor planning all the way around. It's just that the people in government are paid to foresee this sort of crap.

Back on topic: WA state has a plan that has been endorsed by the Feds for crossing into Canade. it is an 'enhanced driver's license' and while i haven't read all the details, it allows us mossbacks to go North without the $100 passport fiasco. and there is something similiar in the works with the Canadian gov't.
The cynic in me tells me that about the time this is going to kick off, there will be a major bureaucratic train wreck and we will have to start all over.

Back in the day I got my Passport in 1 day. At the Thomas P. O'Neill building in Boston. Unfortunately it expired. I have been waiting for my new passport for over 3 months.

Rep. Wilson (R-NM) said she had been calling on State and Homeland Security to implement a suspension for two weeks.

Oh, and forget the "enhanced security" of a passport. Not only are the RFID chips in it low security, but they can be detected by anyone with a hand scanner within 15(?) feet, and replicated.
On top of everything else, even if your RFID chip doesn't work, it does not invalidate the passport!
I've seen a website on how to safely destroy your RFID without damaging the rest of the passport.

The number should really be jumping in the short term, as Iran and Pakistan are vigorously kicking out millions of Afghans, many of whom will be recruited by the Taliban.
That is why our approach (killing 30-100 daily + arresting 30-100 daily + letting them kill 30-100 of their own daily) is insufficient. Add to that the fact they don't value life all that much. To have an affect the West must level cities and conquer their lands! That's what they care about. If they knew that for each IED a square mile of their islamic soil would be obliterated or annexed -- in a real Pavlovian way -- then they might begin to make more logical self-preservation oriented decisions.

NEARLY 100,000 Afghan migrants have been expelled from Iran over the past month and the total could reach 1 million by next spring, according to Tehran officials who say they are trying to protect the jobs of Iranians.
The mass repatriation is straining the resources of the Afghan government and international aid agencies operating in the region. There are reports that some of those deported have suffered inhumane treatment, including physical abuse, loss of belongings and separation from their families. In the western Afghan provinces of Farah and Nimroz, aid agencies have set up tent communities and food-distribution points to accommodate the returnees.
Afghan and foreign aid officials have called on Tehran to carry out the deportations in a “humane and orderly” manner to allow them to better handle the more than 90,000 undocumented Afghans who have returned since April 21. “UNHCR recognises the Iranian government’s right to tackle illegal migration on its soil, but we have strongly appealed to the authorities to do so in a humane manner, treating deportees with dignity and giving them time to pack and make arrangements for their families,” said Salvatore Lombardo, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees representative in Afghanistan.
Since the 1979 Soviet invasion, more than 5 million Afghans have sought refuge in neighbouring countries. There are 920,000 registered Afghan refugees in Iran, according to UNHCR, which estimates there are up to 1 million more living there illegally. Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi said Tehran wants 1 million Afghans to be repatriated by March.

Heavily armed government forces this morning stormed a building in Bakara market where they apprehended several high profile men from Hawiye clan. Witnesses told Somalinet that the forces surrounded the building and forced guards to surrender their weapons. Then they entered building, ordered the political and business figures to raise up their hands and took them to an unknown location.
Among the arrested men were Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Ulosow, a well-known politician and Ali Iman Sharmarke, one of the share holders of Horn Afrik Media in Mogadishu. Just in reports say that all the detained men were released after they had been questioned for their involvement of the terror acts in the capital. “This was not what we were expecting from the government because the forces dealt us as we were criminals and we really had been disgraced... they ordered us to sit down on a sunny ground, this was inhuman act done to such high profile people,” Dr.Ulusow told the local reporters after their release.
The transitional government in Mogadishu now continues a wide-spread disarmament operations aimed to restore law and order and to clear what it called ‘all the terror suspects’ from the capital. Also in the news, the chairman of Hawiye clan Haji Abdi Iman was released today. On Wednesday, the security forces arrested Haji Iman from his house in Yaqshid neighborhood, north of the capital.

Heavily armed Ethiopian troops backed by tanks and armored vehicles blocked all roads to the main Bakara market in Mogadishu where the Somali police forces began door to door searching for arms. In the Bakara raid, the security forces have taken several rifles from a number of business centers. All the weapons collected from Bakara were shown to the journalists in public.
The wider security operation in Mogadishu had an impact on the traffic of both people and cars. "These operations are part of the routine security tasks carried out with the help of our friends, the Ethiopians," Deputy Defense Minister Salad Ali Jelle said.
The operations continue as three main radio FM stations in Mogadishu are off-air for the second day after the transitional government ordered to shut down these media houses. Shabelle, Horn Afrik and IQK (Koranic Radio) were shut down in a decree issued by the government on Wednesday after they were accused of supporting terrorism and breaching the law of free media.

I'll bite. So, Fred, do you think Somalia, Yemen and Pakistan have 1) a ratified constitution, 2) a Second Amendment and 3) a history of constitutional law and court decisions upholding the respective rights under the 2nd Amendment?
We really are comparing the most dysfunctional, tribal, stone-age systems disguised as legitimate governments with our own constitutional republic with a system of civic and law. No comparison.

(AKI) - The Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb, Algeria's former Salafite Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), has claimed responsibility for 19 attacks carried out in the largest North African country from 24 April until 4 June. Among the attacks cited in the statement, which was posted on Islamist websites, was a bomb attack in the city of Constantine that killed a policeman on 16 May, the eve of legislative elections, and attacks against military convoys in the areas of Bourmedes, Tizi Ouzou and al-Bouira in the volatile Kabylia region in the east.
The statement ended with a warning for Algerians not to go near areas where western tourists work or travel and government buildings, which they say will be targeted by attacks. The Salafite Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda last September and changed its name in January to the al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb, is the only militant group to have remained active in the country after it refused to abandon the armed struggle in exchange for an amnesty in August. The group claimed responsibility for triple suicide bombings on 11 April that killed 33 in Algiers - the deadliest in the capital since 2002, when a bomb in a suburban market killed 38 people.

Saudi security forces have arrested since Tuesday 11 Saudis suspected of having links to terrorist organizations, an official source at the Interior Ministry said here yesterday. “The monitoring by the security forces of the activities of the deviant group has led to the arrest of 11 Saudi nationals who incited and financed deviant activities,” Saudi Press Agency quoted the ministry source as saying.
Spokesman for the interior minister, Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, said the capture of the suspects was the result of weeks of extensive efforts by intelligence units. “I cannot confirm or deny that citizens helped the authorities in the capture of the terror suspects,” he told Arab News.
Al-Turki said that the terror suspects came from several regions of the Kingdom. Saudi authorities generally withhold details about specific locations and timelines when it comes to details about operations and arrests, citing ongoing counterterrorism operations in the Kingdom.
Al-Turki confirmed that one of the suspects was considered a key plotter of the Feb. 24, 2006 attack on the Al-Abqaiq oil refinery, which was foiled at the gate by security forces. Two Saudi security guards died in that attack, as well as at least two of the attackers. “The terror suspect who plotted to bomb oil facilities is related to the previous Al-Abqaiq group whose apprehension was earlier announced by the Interior Ministry,” he said.
The ministry statement quoted by the Saudi Press Agency also said property of the suspects had been seized. “As per regulations all the wealth and possessions of the suspects have been seized as a precautionary move until legal proceedings are completed,” the statement said.
The latest announcement came two days after the authorities said they had arrested three members of the Saudi branch of a terror network that was using the Internet to promote subversive and violent actions and recruit like-minded individuals.
Saudi Arabia has been waging what many analysts see as a successful internal campaign against Al-Qaeda militants. In April, police arrested 172 militants from seven terrorist cells in an operation that lasted months — one of the biggest terror sweeps the country has seen so far.
Saud Al-Musaibeeh, security adviser to the interior minister, blamed negligent families for allowing their children to be recruited by Al-Qaeda and similar groups. He commended the efforts of Islamic scholars to counsel detained suspects who have been linked to militant groups (but havenÂ’t been directly linked to terrorist acts), urging them to renounce their abuse of Islam to justify their violent actions. Former Saudi detainees of the Guantanamo US military internment camp have gone through similar counseling programs.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has published booklets for youths clarifying that terrorist ideologies are foreign to the true teachings of Islam. Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Ashaikh described terrorism (violence that targets civilians or infrastructure aimed at coercing society through fear in order to achieve political or religious objectives) as a major sin. The khatibs (speakers) at the holy mosques at Makkah and Madinah have also warned the faithful about the dangers of following extremist ideologies.

The man believed to be one of the Oslo area's most powerful gang leaders was sentenced this week to nine years of special custody and he effectively lost his house. He allegedly ran a virtual torture chamber in the basement of his home. Arshad Mahmood, age 38, was sentenced to the special custody known as forvaring, which is designed to protect the public from the country's most dangerous criminals. A court in Romerike, northeast of Oslo, also seized Mahmood's Mercedes and NOK 890,000, which means he also has to give up his house in Ullensaker, where police found several badly beaten hostages last autumn. The judge clearly didn't believe Arshad Mahmood's story that his hostages had threatened him. Gee, does this mean there's no recourse to a restraining order in Norsky courts?
Mahmood is the purported leader of Oslo's so-called "A-gang." There's a Pakistani "B-gang", too.
He's been convicted numerous times for violence, assault and making threats. Psychiatrists claim he has a split personality, which makes it unproblematic for him to commit violent crimes while at the same time maintaining a seemingly normal family life. His children, wives wife and relatives were inside the house at Ullensaker when it was raided by police last September, while the hostages were found chained in the makeshift torture chamber in its basement. Sounds like the night shift in Baghdad.

Norway's use of forvaring is very interesting. Look it up, you'll find that there isn't much on it in English, very hush, hush. Some kind of renewable prison term, a legal black hole of sorts. It sounds like just desserts for an asshole like this.

(AKI) - Security officials in Milan who arrested Thursday nine Tunisians suspected of links with the Algeria-based Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb believe the men were not only providing logistical support and funding for terrorist operations in Algeria and Tunisia but were also planning attacks on the northern Italian city's subway and police stations. Anti-terror prosecutor Elio Ramondini told reporters that the cell - which was recruiting Islamic militants to fight in Afghanistan, Algeria, Tunisia, Chechnya and Bosnia - included militants "who were ready for suicide attacks in Italy and abroad."
Sami Ben Khemais Essid, who has just finished serving a six and a half jail sentence in Italy on terror charges, is believed to have initially set up the cell to recruit militants to be trained for suicide attacks abroad and to provide funding to the former Algerian Salafite Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), which pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda last year and changed its name to Al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb in January.
The suspected militants were reportedly arrested on a tipoff by Tlili Lazar, a Tunisian extradited from France to Italy last November, who is allegedly cooperating with the police. Among the nine was also 46 year-old Habib Ignaoua who was detained in London on an arrest warrant issued by Milan magistrates.
Judge Guido Salvini who issued the arrest warrants said the cell's high revenues mostly came from drug dealing and counterfeiting money, also through the help of Milan's controverial viale Jenner mosque. The mosque has been classified as a financier of terrorist causes by the US Treasury Department, which has accused it of supporting "the movement of weapons, men and money around the world."
In the arrest order, Salvini wrote that "it has emerged once again with great clarity the role of the mosque in viale Jenner as a recruitment place for holy war and thus not only as a place of worship but also as a logical and effective point of reference for jihadi networks."

Turkey has declared several areas near the border with Iraq to be “temporary security zones” in a sign of increasing activity by the military in its campaign against Kurdish rebels.
The declaration on Wednesday came amid a Turkish military buildup on the border, and on the same day as Turkish security officials and an Iraqi Kurdish official said hundreds of Turkish troops crossed into northern Iraq in pursuit of Kurdish guerrillas who launch raids into Turkey. TurkeyÂ’s foreign minister denied there was a cross-border operation.
The military did not clarify what it meant by “temporary security zones,” but some Turkish media reports on Thursday said the areas would be off-limits to civilian flights. Others said the zones meant that additional security measures would be implemented, and entry into the regions would be restricted and tightly controlled.
In a statement posted on its Web site, the Turkish military released the coordinates of the areas that would be affected and said the zones would be in place until Sept. 9, but gave no other information.
Newspapers said the coordinates relate to areas of the provinces of Sirnak, Siirt and Hakkari. Sirnak and Hakkari border northern Iraq, while Siirt is further north of the border. All three provinces have been the scene of fighting with Kurdish rebels.
Three Turkish officials described Wednesday’s cross-border operation as a “hot pursuit” raid that was limited in scope, and one of them said troops returned to their bases by the end of the day. Turkey has conducted such brief raids in the past, but the latest incident comes as rebels escalate attacks in their decades-old fight for autonomy in southeast Turkey.

At least six other Guyanese may have been directly involved or had knowledge of the plot to blow up pipelines and fuel storage tanks at the John F Kennedy International Airport, according to the US complaint which named the four defendants currently facing the conspiracy charges. The document however does not name the other individuals but simply refers to them as Individuals A, B, C, E, F and G, while the nationality of another presumed partner in the plot, Individual D was also not disclosed. Those individuals, the US government informant and Defreitas met collectively and separately at other times during a visit to Guyana in mid August where the two stayed for an extended period, according to the document.
The document also stated too that E, which it suggests is a businessman with a business somewhere in Georgetown, had told the informant during a conversation that he helped 'brothers' who have a basic knowledge of Islam to perform Jihad (holy war). "He said that he takes care of the individuals basic needs while they are performing their jihad duties," the document stated.
E also suggested that A should get involved in teaching Islam so that he could select serious individuals who were right for Jihad.
It was individual A, the document said, who asked the US informant on or about September 10 lat year if we wanted to die as a martyr and in response the informant answered that this was the greatest way to die in Islam.
Individual A and Individual C had told the informant too that the three of them would travel to Trinidad to discuss the plan with a fourth person (Individual D) whose nationality was not disclosed. However the document stated that A had told E that they were working on two plans: one to smuggle individuals, including mujahideen, from Asia into Guyana and then into the United States and a second to attack the United States where it would inflict the most harm.
Several meetings were supposedly held at the business owned by E and at one such meeting E, the document stated, described an occasion when he had seen U.S. helicopters parked at the Guyanese airport for an air show and considered blowing them up.
"Individual A replied that he (A) was not the only one with those thoughts. At that point E also said that he was close friends with a leader of the Trinidadian Muslim group Jamaat al Muslimeen," the document stated. At that same meeting too A informed E about the details of the planned attack and explained that the plan involved exploding the fuel line that fed fuel to JFK airport. E agreed to take part in the plan but cautioned other partners to avoid talking about it over the telephone or to anyone not directly involved.
The US complaint said that over a two-week period while Defreitas and the informant were here in Guyana they met E, A and C on several occasions to discuss the planned attack. `A' suggested that Defreitas and the informant return to JFK to conduct surveillance at JFK to determine what kind of explosive device would be appropriate for the plan.
The document suggested that after Defreitas and the informant returned to New York, E and A continued to meet here regarding the plot and gave the informant telephonic updates.
The document quoting Defreitas in a telephone conversation about E's intentions said, "E really wants to get this things going. He's very sincere about it 
So he really want[s] to get it done but he want to get it done the right way 
that we don't want to regret starting something that we can't finish."
Surveillance conducted by Defreitas and the US informant of the airport was being fed reliably to E and in a conversation Defreitas told E that he had seen Pat Robertson on television predicting that a disaster would hit America and that a tsunami would hit several states. Defreitas stated, "So he's probably not too far off, huh?" and Individual E laughed...

Indian police in revolt-hit Kashmir said on Thursday they had arrested 14 suspected militant bomb-makers blamed for a string of political killings.Police said the arrests were a major setback for Hizbul Mujahideen. “The arrests were made on a tip off on the cell involved in bomb making and the killing of over a dozen people,” said B Srinivas, police chief of Baramulla district where the arrests were made. Police said the militants were involved in the murder of a senior Congress party leader in Baramulla district this year. They were also suspected of carrying out roadside blasts using mobile telephones, and police said the arrest operation also netted a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

Just, a few noticeable comments from the guys in Iraq:
I recently attended a showing of "Superman 3" here at LSA Anaconda. We have a large auditorium we use for movies as well as memorial services and other large gatherings. As is the custom back in the States, we stood and snapped to attention when the National Anthem began before the main feature. All was going as planned until about three-quarters of the way through the National Anthem the music stopped.
Now, what would happen if this occurred with 1,000 18-22 year-olds back in the States? I imagine there would be hoots, catcalls, laughter, a few rude comments, and everyone would sit down and call for a movie. Of course, that is, if they had stood for the National Anthem in the first place.
Here, the 1,000 Soldiers continued to stand at attention, eyes fixed forward.
The music started again. The Soldiers continued to quietly stand at attention. And again, at the same point, the music stopped. What would you expect to happen? Even here I would imagine laughter as everyone sat down and expected the movie to start. Here, you could have heard a pin drop. Every Soldier stood at attention. Suddenly there was a lone voice, then a dozen, and quickly the room was filled with the voices of a thousand Soldiers:
And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave, o'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
It was the most inspiring moment I have had here in Iraq. I wanted you to know what kind of Soldiers are serving you here.

Except for a military installation here, where else in America have you ever seen or heard the National Anthem played in a movie theater? i agree with the author, can't imagine this happening in Berkeley or Madison or Austin.

16 SUSPECTED SECRET CELL TERRORISTS DETAINED

I am absolutely disgusted w/the U.S. media - we complete many positive things in the sand box on a daily basis and all these douche bags can report about is this bleach blonde skank whose not famous for anything other than whose womb she crawled out of. Paris Hilton brings nothing meaningful or positive to our culture if anything she is a negative factor imho. Overall, her existence on the planet pretty much impacts no one - what a waste of news time. Our country's fascination w/pop culture is sickening.

BAGHDAD - Nine people were killed and 22 wounded on Thursday in a suicide truck bomb attack on a police station near the Syrian border in northwestern Iraq, local police said. ‘The bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the building after police opened fire on him,’ Brigadier General Mohammed Al Waga told AFP. He said five police officers were among the dead in the attack in Rabiaa, which also left 15 police wounded.
Separately, the US military announced the arrest of 16 presumed ‘terrorists’ during raids in Baghdad’s Shia Muslim bastion of Sadr City. It said those arrested were suspected of belonging to a cell known for transporting arms and EFP-type explosives from Iran to Iraq and sending activists to Iran for training. EFPs, or explosively formed penetrators, are a kind of bomb that ejects a lump of molten copper capable of piercing armour.

(AKI) - A day after reports first confirmed then denied a Turkish military incursion into northern Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, Turkey's Doga news agency reported that people began leaving their villages in the area of Mount Kandil, a cross-border stronghold of Kurdish separatists fighting Turkey for more than two decades. Several news reports on Wednesday said that thousands of Turkish troops had streamed over the border into Kurdistan, in an apparent offensive against PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) militants. Turkish prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan denied that Turkish troops had entered northern Iraq. "If such a step has to be taken we would consult with the military and then discuss it in the parliament. There are some procedures to be completed before acting”, Erdogan said in a television interview.
He also repeated his support for the military and did not rule out a military raid. “If the security forces ask our consent [to carry out cross border raids against the PKK] we would not stand against them. The step would be taken at the relevant time.”
On Wednesday afternoon the Associated Press news agency quoting unidentified Turkish officials saying that Turkey had launched military operation into northern Iraq. Turkish foreign minister Abdullah Gul was the first top official to deny the report. He was followed by his Iraqi counterpart Hoshyar Zebari and White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe both of whom said no Turkish incursion had taken place.
However, military sources cited by some Turkish media said a "hot pursuit" operations against the PKK were underway in the frontier areas and that Turkish troops had conducted limited operations in the mountains located in northern Iraq where PKK militants are based.
On Monday, in the latest attack blamed by Ankara on the PKK, seven soldiers were killed in a military post near the southeastern city of Tunceli. Late last month six people were killed and 100 were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of a crowded shopping mall in Ankara. This was followed by the killing of six soldiers in the southeastern city of Sirnak in a landmine attack, and an attempt to assasssinate Tunceli's police chief in a roadside bomb explosion. The PKK has denied responsibility for the Ankara bombing.

PKK has been antagonizing the Turks for a long while now. We've warned them time again, but to no avail. As much as I'd like to see them have their own part of a three state setup, they have to get a leash on these guys.
(AKI) - The tribes of Tikrit, the birthplace of Saddam Hussein, and surrounding villages, have rejected an offer by the clans of their province to create an alliance, along the lines of the Sunni tribal alliance in al-Anbar province, to combat al-Qaeda in Iraq, according to the al-Hayat newspaper. The daily says the tribal leaders of three Sunni towns - Biji, el-Doiur and Tikrit - accused the promoters of the initative of wanting to create splits among Iraqi Sunnis. At a meeting in Tikrit on Wednesday, the heads of the tribes asked supporters of the alliance, known as the Salahuddin Salvation Council, to rethink.
They repeated that within the tribal militias there will be no representatives of their cities. The decision may have been influenced by the threats and attacks against the Sunni tribal chiefs who have supported their initiative. Sheikh Ahmad Ibrahim al-Jiburi, who founded the Salahuddin Salvation Council in Biji, 200 kilometres north of Baghdad, was attacked by a group of gunmen several days after the council was created. His brother sheikh Khalil had his house attacked and four of his children kidnapped. To date only three tribes have adhered to the council; Tal-Shamr, Jibburi and Nahya al-Ilm.
The first groups to establish an alliance of tribal militias to force out al-Qaeda - accused of indiscriminate violence and resented because of the presence of foreign fighters - were tribal leaders in the violent majority Sunni province of al-Anbar to the west of Baghdad, until then considered a insurgent stronghold and recently the scene of numerous suicide bomb attacks.

IraqÂ’s seemingly inexhaustible corps of terror bombers struck across the country again on Thursday, from a restaurant in BaghdadÂ’s teeming Sadr City, to a police station leveled by a blast near the Syrian border. At least seven policemen and eight civilians were reported killed.
The new blows against Iraqi government authority came as US military casualties rose toward a four-year death toll of 3,500, with 22 dead reported for the first six days of June, a relatively high casualty rate, almost double that of June 2006.
In the capitalÂ’s eastern Sadr City district, a bomb beneath a parked car exploded at lunchtime outside a falafel restaurant, police reported. At least three people were killed and eight wounded, said a police officer.
Earlier, in the dayÂ’s first reported attack, a suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden truck at about 9am at a police station in Rabia, near IraqÂ’s border with Syria, killing at least four policemen and five civilians, and wounding 22 other people, an Iraqi army spokesman said.
A guard shot the driver as he approached the building, but the truck still penetrated its blast walls and exploded, destroying the one-story structure, said Capt Mohammed Ahmed of the armyÂ’s Third Division.
An hour later, in Ramadi, three policemen were killed and four others wounded when a suicide driver blew up his automobile at their checkpoint, police said. The post was just 50 meters (yards) from the traffic police headquarters, said another police officer.
In other attacks on Thursday, mortar shells landing in two districts of western Baghdad killed two civilians and wounded 12 others, police reported.
The US military reported four US soldiers were killed in separate incidents Tuesday and Wednesday – roadside bombings in eastern Baghdad and near Beiji, north of the capital, and an explosion and enemy gunfire in Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad. That lifted the US death toll in four years of war to 3,498. That raised the average rate of US troops deaths to about 4 per day in June, compared with 2 a day in June 2006.
On the offensive early on Thursday, a joint Iraqi-American force raided locations in Baghdad’s Sadr City and detained 16 suspected members of a “secret cell terrorist network” believed helping transport weapons, including advanced roadside bombs, from Iran to Iraq, the US command reported.
At midday, in another incident, an exploding roadside bomb targeting a US patrol wounded two Iraqi civilians in the Neiriya area of eastern Baghdad, and two others were wounded when the Americans opened fire randomly at the scene, an Iraqi police officer said. In another development, the British ambassador to Iraq, Dominic Asquith, issued an appeal to the kidnappers of five Britons, held since May 29, to release them or open negotiations.

Jordanian police arrested seven members of JordanÂ’s largest Muslim opposition group for allegedly setting up armed militias with the aim of destabilizing the kingdom, the groupÂ’s leader said yesterday. The latest arrests bring to nine the total number of activists with the Islamic Action Front, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement, who were detained by police since May 22.
Two Islamic Front members detained for the same reason 15 days ago were released last week, said the groupÂ’s secretary-general, Zaki Bani Ersheid. Government officials were not immediately available for comment.
But chief government spokesman Nasser Judeh was quoted in the English language Jordan Times newspaper as saying that only five Islamic Action Front members were arrested for “threatening national security.” He did not elaborate but said that an investigation was under way.
Bani Ersheid told The Associated Press that the seven were arrested late Wednesday in separate police raids on their homes in Zarqa, a low-income industrial city 27 kilometers northeast of the capital, Amman. Zarqa, a hotbed for Islamic militants, is the hometown of former Al-Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, who was killed in a US airstrike a year ago.
“Police officials told their families while arresting my colleagues that they were involved in forming armed militias,” Bani Ersheid said. “But the allegation is completely false,” he said. “We believe that the arrests are only aimed at undermining the credibility of the Islamic Action Front ahead of the municipal and parliamentary elections in Jordan,” he added, referring to town elections scheduled for July and parliamentary polls slated for later this year.
The Islamic Action Front commands 17 seats in the 110-member Lower House of Parliament. The group is a fiery critic of the governmentÂ’s policies, primarily its quest for a peaceful Arab-Israeli settlement. The front rejects JordanÂ’s 1994 peace treaty with Israel and has often called on the government to annul it.
Meanwhile, Jordan’s King Abdallah vowed at a military academy graduation ceremony that his kingdom will “always remain an oasis of security and stability and a role model for progress, able to confront challenges and realize achievements.”
Meanwhile, a military prosecutor has indicted a Jordanian man on charges of recruiting fighters to join the Iraqi insurgency at the request of Al-Qaeda, judicial sources said. Awni Al-Mansi was indicted on three counts, including the illegal possession of weapons and attempted murder. He faces the death penalty if found guilty but no date has been set yet for the trial.
The charge sheet said Mansi helped several would-be rebels infiltrate neighboring Syria for the eventual dispatch to Iraq, it said. He was arrested in January during a raid by Jordanian forces on a hide-out in the northern city of Irbid, in which a number of security agents were wounded in a shootout with Mansi and his accomplice Suleiman Al-Anjadi.

Rival Hamas and Fatah forces clashed in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing at least one person and injuring 12 others. The fighting spread across the southern Gaza town of Rafah as Hamas and Fatah gunmen set up checkpoints and took up positions on rooftops, two days after President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah said Palestinians were standing on the brink of civil war.
Israel is considering a new request from Fatah to allow shipments of arms and ammunition into Gaza from Egypt and other Arab states, Israeli and Western security sources said. Palestinian officials had no immediate comment.
Fatah said ThursdayÂ’s clash in Rafah erupted when gunmen from the Islamist Hamas group confronted one of its local leaders at his home. The manÂ’s brother was killed. At least 12 other Palestinians were wounded, including at least six from Fatah, four from Hamas and two bystanders, as the fighting spread, Palestinian hospital officials said. ThursdayÂ’s death was the first since an Egyptian-brokered truce took hold in mid-May after the latest wave of factional fighting killed some 50 Palestinians.
Israel has allowed Abbas’s forces to bring in arms, ammunition and reinforcements from Egypt and other Arab states over the last year. The Bush administration has asked Israel to permit transfers to bolster Abbas’s forces as a counterweight to Hamas’s dominance in the Gaza Strip. Some Israeli officials say they fear the weapons will end up in the hands of Hamas and Fatah militants behind attacks on Israel. Abbas and Olmert had been scheduled to meet on Thursday in the West Bank city of Jericho, but the summit was called off by the Palestinians. Lebanese security forces found three car bombs in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon on Thursday, a day after they arrested three suspected al Qaeda members in possession of weapons and explosives, security sources said. 2 of the rigged cars were white Mercedes and the third was a Volkswagen van. The cars were parked in front of a 2 story building in Nahriyeh district of Bar Elias village. The security experts dismantled all the 3 cars.
Security forces conducted raids in the Bar Elias village just west of the border with Syria in the Bekaa Valley after the men, arrested there, had admitted to rigging the cars, the sources said. The three men (two Syrians and an Iraqi) , were arrested near Bar Elias about 10 kilometers from the main border crossing to Syria, police said Wednesday. were found to be in possession of forged travel and identity documents, computers, maps of Lebanese cities and night vision binoculars. Security forces also found explosives in suitcases and guns. The nationalities of the three could not immediately be confirmed.
The potential for Sunni Muslim militancy is on the rise in Lebanon as an al Qaeda-inspired militant group, Fatah al-Islam, is battling the Lebanese army at a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon. The group has threatened to expand its fight to other areas of Lebanon and beyond if the army does not halt a 19-day-old attack. At least 115 people have been killed in the fighting.
Lebanese Islamists on Thursday sought the surrender of al Qaeda-inspired militants locked in deadly battles with troops at a Palestinian refugee camp but the group said it would not give itself up. Two members of Lebanon's Islamic Action Front, which includes Sunni politicians and clerics, went to the Nahr al-Bared camp for talks with Fatah al-Islam's military commander Shahin Shahin, the front's leader Fathi Yakan said. "They (Fatah al-Islam) have reached a dead end. They can only surrender," Yakan told Reuters in the city of Tripoli, just south of Nahr al-Bared. "The only thing that will convince them is sharia (Islamic law), and religious reason."
Yakan, head of the group which is close to Lebanon's opposition, said the delegation had not yet met a negotiator from Fatah al-Islam and did not expect a result immediately. Another Fatah al-Islam military commander, Abu Hurayra, reiterated the group would not surrender. "We are with any solution that halts the attacks and the bloodshed... but we will not accept any surrendering of weapons or ourselves," he told Reuters from inside the camp.
Previous efforts by Palestinian leaders to broker a solution have failed to end the fighting, which began on May 20. The battles are Lebanon's deadliest internal violence since the 1975-1990 civil war. Security sources said a Lebanese soldier was killed on Thursday, bringing to 115 the total death toll, including 47 soldiers and 38 militants. Three soldiers were also wounded.
In the squalid Nahr al-Bared camp, abandoned by most of its 40,000 residents, soldiers used artillery and machineguns against Fatah al-Islam's positions in sporadic fighting. A Reuters witness said Lebanese soldiers took about 20 men, blindfolded and handcuffed, away from the southern entrance of the camp. There was no immediate information on their identities.
The army and the government say Fatah al-Islam started the conflict and have repeatedly called for its men to lay down their arms and surrender, demands the group has rejected. "The army is continuing to put pressure on the militants. They are surrounded and there is no option for them but to surrender," a military source said.
The authorities charged three more members of Fatah al-Islam with terrorism on Thursday, bringing to 30 the total indicted, judicial sources said. The charges carry the death penalty. The violence is the latest jolt to stability in Lebanon, already in the midst of a 7-month-old political crisis. Four bombs have also exploded in the Beirut area, killing one person and wounding dozens, since the Nahr al-Bared fighting began. Security forces also found a car bomb in eastern Lebanon and two other vehicles containing weapons and explosives, including four Katyusha rockets.
The cars were found in Bar Elias village just west of the border with Syria in the Bekaa valley, a day after the forces arrested, in the same area, three suspected al Qaeda members in possession of weapons and explosives.
In Ain al-Hilweh, Lebanon's largest refugee camp, a 40-member force made of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah group and three Islamist factions remained deployed at the camp's northern entrance, after clashes broke out between the army and the militant Jund al-Sham group earlier this week. Two soldiers and two militants were killed in fire fights that erupted on Sunday in Ein al-Helweh, raising fears the fighting in Nahr al-Bared, could further spread to other camps.
Palestinian factions, including Fatah and the Islamist Hamas group, oppose Fatah al-Islam, which shares al Qaeda's ideology of global jihad and recruits fighters from other Arab countries.

Fighting erupted at around 7 PM Beirut time between 2 feuding families in this historic city of the Bekaa valley area , in eastern Lebanon. The 2 feuding families are Jaafar and Wehbe. According to the latest reports 3 were wounded in the shootout: Ahmad Youssef Wehbe and his wife Nouhad Khair el Dine and his daughter-in-law Sawsan Khair el Dine.
The shootout occurred in the northern part of the city in the district of Sharawneh. There were no other details on what caused the shootout.

Al Qaeda-inspired militants and Lebanese troops fought intermittently at a Palestinian refugee camp on Thursday as the army tried to force the gunmen out of their hide-outs. Heavy fighting continued overnight with soldiers using helicopters, artillery and machinegun fire to attack Fatah al-Islam's positions in the coastal Nahr al-Bared camp. Security sources said three soldiers were wounded by a militant RPG in the overnight fighting. One soldier was also killed by sniper fire, according to the most recent reports from the camp.
At least 114 people, including 47 soldiers, have been killed since the fighting erupted on May 20, making it Lebanon's deadliest internal violence since the 1975-1990 civil war. The army and the government say Fatah al-Islam started the conflict and insist its men give themselves up, a demand the militants have rejected. Class 3 ISO rating, ya say? That's pretty good. In one community we serve, we got the water flow and hydrant performance up. The ISO guys came in and evaluated the town. They lost one step on the rating because of not meeting some fire personnel training requirements.

Isn't there some plug-in or program that you can install that will sense DOS or Spam attack (IP addresses, volume, etc.) and you can sort of collect off to the side and when all of it from its various sources are done, you just send it all back to each and everyone of them?

It is my understanding that there are a number of email "grenades available off of several sites on the web which more unscrupulous individuals than myself might use to launch counterattacks against certain individuals who are guilty of attempting to continually attack, crash, and otherwise antagonize other websites and forums of which they do not approve for largely political reasons.
Not that I would ever seek to encourage such activities or condone them.
