Trump - or What? (VDH)
[National Review] In traditional political terms, there is always an alternate agenda to an incumbent president’s that reasonable voters can debate.

In Trump’s case, two massive annual budget deficits ‐ coming on top of the previous two administrations that doubled the national debt ‐ seem fair game.

Yet we hear little about such financial profligacy.

Not a word comes from Trump’s critics about the need for Social Security or Medicare reform to ensure the long-term viability of each ‐ other than the Democrats’ promises to extend such financially shaky programs to millions of new clients well beyond the current retiring Baby Boomer cohorts who are already taxing the limits of the system.
Several other examples are examined, in typical VDH fashion.
To counter every signature Trump issue, there is almost no rational alternative advanced. That void helps explain the bizarre, three-year litany of dreaming of impeachment, the emoluments clause, the Logan Act, the 25th Amendment, the Mueller special-counsel investigation, Stormy Daniels and Michael Avenatti, Trump’s tax returns, White Supremacy!, Recession! ‐ and Lord knows what next.

The progressive party, many past presidents, the media, and Hollywood didn't need to be schooled by Donald Trump on the arts of crudity, unprofessionalism, and unethical behavior.

So what we need are not more pathetic abort-the-Trump-presidency melodramas, or ethical sermons from the abjectly unethical, or "Trump is the worst" this or that from historically ignorant pundits.
Don't forget Hitler.
Instead of vague socialist bombast and promises, where is the actual detailed progressive version of the Contract with America, so voters can read it, digest it, and then decide whether it is superior or inferior to the status quo since 2017? Let us see two antithetical visions of America's future, and let the voters decide.
Even the deplorables?
For those who insist that "character matters" more than policy, then, let us compare the Trump behavior in the White House since 2017 with JFK's, Lyndon Johnson's, and Bill Clinton's. Let's compare his supposed efforts to "obstruct" justice with Obama's actual record of politicizing federal justice, intelligence, tax, and investigatory agencies.

So far, all that is something that apparently no presidential candidate wishes to do.

"We need pass the bill to find out what's in it."

The left has long since given up on trying to win on the merits for the simple reason that there are no merits to their arguments.

But they still want power and perks, and the ability to push the normies' faces in shit, as well as revenge on Dad and the kids who wouldn't invite them to their parties.

So how do they get what they want without earning it on the merits?

FUD and bribing the Free Sheeit crowd and importing barbarians looking for loot.

Demanding that the left make a rational case for their program is a fool's errand.

Besides, I thought conservatives were the ones who pushed back against the Enlightenment's overweening faith in man's capacity to reason.

Why do so many "conservatives" waste time appealing to the left's better angels, when the only angel the left acknowledges is Lucifer?

Snopes Introduces New 'Factually Inaccurate But Morally Right' Fact Check Result
[Babylon Bee] Popular fact-checking site Snopes.com confirmed Wednesday they are debuting a new "Factually inaccurate but morally right" fact check result for claims they don't want to debunk because they coincide with Snopes editors' worldview.

The fact-checking website will now label inaccurate claims that they deem "morally right" with the new label, giving public figures whose hearts are in the right place a pass.

"We were often running into situations were a truth claim was absolutely absurd, but it supported progressive causes," said one Snopes editor. "So sometimes we just called it a 'Mixture,' but then people might get the idea that our favorite politicians are being slightly dishonest sometimes."

The editor then said that upon hearing Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's recent statement that many people are more concerned with being factually accurate than morally right, the Snopes fact-checking team suddenly had an idea: they could label things as being morally laudable even though the facts upon which they were based are totally erroneous.

"So like, if someone says communism is the most humane political and economic system, like, there are facts that contradict with that, sure," said one writer. "But the person is obviously compassionate for wanting people to share and stuff. So we'll just slap the new 'factually wrong but morally great' label on the claim, and then people won't feel like they have to disregard the entirely false claim."

The new label has been used 17 times on Snopes today alone.

Afghanistan
The Key Role Pakistan Is Playing In U.S.-Taliban Talks
[NPR] A bomb parked under the preacher's pulpit in a mosque likely had a high-profile target: a brother of the Taliban leader. It was seen by the Taliban as a warning to stop their talks with the United States.

The bombing, on Aug. 16, was in Pakistan ‐ on the outskirts of the garrison town of Quetta, near the Afghan border. And its location spotlighted something else: the powerful and uneasy place of Pakistan in these negotiations. Quetta is widely understood to be the base of Afghanistan's Taliban leadership.

Critics have long contended that Pakistan has held some sway over the Taliban by offering them shelter, if not outright support.

Now the country is facilitating negotiations between Washington and the Taliban that will likely see a withdrawal of most foreign troops, in return for the insurgents' promise they won't let Afghanistan be a launchpad for future global terrorist attacks.

IG report backs whistleblower fired after flagging Stefan Halper contracts
[World Tribune] A report by the Department of Defense’s inspector general reveals that Stefan Halper, the professor hired by the FBI to spy on the Trump campaign, failed to document his research on four Pentagon studies for which he traveled the world at U.S. taxpayer expense and was paid a total of $1 million.

The DoD inspector general launched the Halper investigation based on a request in January from Senate Finance Committee Chariman Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican. "He, in turn, was acting on allegations of sweetheart contacts at the Office of Net Assessment (ONA), a secretive Pentagon think tank whose mission is to find and expose future global threats," security correspondent Rowan Scarborough noted in an Aug. 18 report for The Washington Times.

The IG’s report is a vindication of Pentagon analyst Adam Lovinger, who blew the whistle on the lucrative contracts Halper received from the ONA, Lovinger’s attorney said.

After questioning the Halper contracts, Lovinger had his security clearance revoked and was suspended without pay by Obama-appointed officials who accused him of mishandling sensitive data.

#1  The veracity of these reported casualty figures is questionable really. Even adjusting for a little double entry and habitual inflation of op success by militaries, the reported numbers of taliban dying are close to 30 per day. Can they really be in a negotiating position with the US and China with such losses ?

"Say, the gentlemen that came with you last meeting. He's not here today Mullah Baroodi ? "

"He... uhhh, got a cold. Heh heh...sniff."

I would love to believe this rate of inflicted casualty, but the recent discovery of the 'ghost soldiers' thing begs the question : What if some of these are 'ghost casualties' ? Inflated numbers to let the foreign forces think they are really accomplishing something in this place.

Because for a group dying in such great numbers per week, the taliban are not really giving a shit.

Afghan forces repel Taliban attack in the outskirts of Pul-e Khumri city

[KhaamaPress] The Afghan forces repelled a Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
attack in the outskirts of Pul-e Khumri city, the thriving provincial capital of northern Baghlan province.

The National Defense and Security Institutions said in a joint statement that a group of 30 to 40 Talibs launched an attack in Zaman Khel and Hussain Khel areas located in the outskirts of Pul-e Khumri city.

The statement further added that the murderous Moslems launched the attack at around 2 am local time.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the statement added that the security forces quickly responded to the attack killing at least 3 holy warriors, arresting 2 others and wounding of them.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Alamo, Davy was wondering if Buck was okay. He suspected he wasn't...
the defense and security institutions said the security forces have cordoned off the Karkar area where the remaining murderous Moslems have taken shelter.

The statement further added that the security forces did not suffer casualties in the attack and a clearance operation is underway in the area.

Baghlan residents stood shoulder to shoulder with the Afghan forces amid Taliban attack

[KhaamaPress] The residents of Baghlan province also picked up arms against the Taliban militants who attacked Pul-e Khumri city in the early hours of Sunday.

Bismillah Atash, a member of the Provincial Council of Baghlan told Khaama Press that the residents of Pul-e Khumri who had weapons in their houses, stood against the Taliban militants.

Atash further added that the residents of Pul-e Khumri stood shoulder to shoulder with the Afghan security forces to fight the Taliban militants.

Meanwhile, an official of the National Directorate of Security confirmed that the residents of Baghlan and public uprising forces joined the security forces to fight the Taliban militants in the outskirts of the city.

A group of 30 to 40 Taliban militants launched the attack on Pul-e Khumri city from the outskirts of the city.

The security forces managed the repulse the attack by engaging in a firefight with the Taliban militants which lasted for several hours.

Highways Remain Closed As Clashes Continue

[ToloNews] Sources said that eight people, including four civilians, were killed in the clashes.

Main highways in northern Afghanistan – the Kabul-Baghlan and Baghlan-Kunduz highways – have been closed to traffic over the past two days after the Taliban militants attacked the northern and northeastern cities of Kunduz and Baghlan.

The Taliban’s attack on the city of Kunduz was repelled by Afghan forces but sources say that threats remain high on the outskirts of the city near the Kunduz-Takhar and Baghlan-Kunduz highways.

The highways connect Kabul with the northern province of Balkh and northeastern provinces of Takhar and Badakhshan. Sources said that hundreds of passengers have been stranded on two sides of the highway.

TOLOnews reporter Sharif Amiry who is in Pul-e-Khumri city, the center of Baghlan, said Taliban militants were pushed back towards “Cement Khana” area on the outskirts of Pul-e-Khumri city.

The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that Afghan forces targeted the Taliban from three directions and pushed them back to Cement Khana area of Baghlan which is far from the center of the city.

“At least 21 Taliban were killed and 13 others were wounded while eight others were arrested in Baghlan clashes,” the statement said.

Baghlan hospital officials said eight people including four civilians were killed in the clashes and 40 others, including 28 civilians, were wounded.

TOLOnews reporter says some Baghlan residents have also taken arms to fight against the Taliban.

Taliban targets second Afghan city as U.S. negotiator says peace deal is near

[WAPO] KABUL ‐ The Taliban attacked a northern Afghan city early Sunday, a day after striking another city in the north, raising fears of renewed assaults on population centers even as the top U.S. negotiator said he was on the "threshold" of securing a peace deal with the militant group as he headed to Kabul.

Taliban fighters attacked Pol-e-Khomri from at least two directions, Fawad Aman, a spokesman for the Afghan Defense Ministry, told The Washington Post. The Afghan intelligence agency said 30 to 40 Taliban fighters launched the attack about 2 a.m.

Two security officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the news media, said the Taliban entered the city from several directions and for a time blocked a key highway linking Kabul, the capital, with the rest of the north. It was the first time the Taliban had gained any ground in Pol-e-Khomri.

Mohammad Nasim Mudabber, a lawmaker in Pol-e-Khomri, said the battle for the city was ongoing, with Taliban fighters hiding in civilian homes and using residents as "human shields." He said residents could hear machine-gun fire and rocket attacks and that security forces were "moving ahead slowly to prevent civilian casualties" and had not yet carried out house-to-house searches for the militants.

"Unfortunately, we have casualties, but we don’t have a number yet," Mudabber said.

Turkish airstrike kills 5 PKK fighters in Duhok: defense ministry

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

’s defense ministry released a statement on Sunday claiming its air force had "neutralized" five PKK fighters.

The People’s Defence Forces (HPG) ‐ the PKK’s armed wing ‐ is yet to issue a statement on the incident.

A local farmer, who asked to remain anonymous, told Rudaw a warplane had circled the village of Bee in the Bari Gari district northeast of Duhok city for around 10 minutes before striking a "white vehicle".

Residents of the district fled their homes, fearing jets may return for further strikes, he said.

"We are now heading back to the village in order to put out the fire that resulted from the Ottoman Turkish bombardments," the farmer told Rudaw. He was not aware of any civilian casualties.

The village of Bee was evacuated in 1988 during a period of heavy fighting between the PKK and Ottoman Turkish forces. However,

locals have continued to return to the area to use its surrounding farmland.

Arabia
Saudi-led airstrikes kill at least 100 in rebel-run prison
SANAA, Yemen (AP) ‐ The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen staged multiple airstrikes on a detention center operated by the Houthi rebels in the southwestern province of Dhamar, killing at least 100 people and wounding dozens more Sunday, officials and the rebels’ health ministry said.

Franz Rauchenstein, the head of the Red Cross delegation in Yemen, suggested that the death toll could be higher after visiting the site of the attack, saying relatively few detainees survived. A Red Cross statement said the detention center held around 170 detainees. It said 40 of those were being treated for injuries and the rest were presumed dead.

"Witnessing this massive damage, seeing the bodies lying among the rubble, was a real shock. Anger and sadness were natural reactions," Rauchenstein said.

The attack was the deadliest so far this year by the coalition, according to the Yemen Data Project, a database tracking the war. The coalition has faced international criticism for airstrikes that have hit schools, hospitals and wedding parties, killing thousands of Yemeni civilians.

Saudi Arabia intervened on behalf of the internationally recognized Yemini government in March 2015, after the Iran-backed Houthis took the capital. The conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives, thrust millions to the brink of famine and spawned the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Lindsey Graham open to putting Obama under oath in probe into Russia investigation origins
[Washington Examiner] Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham says he is open to putting Barack Obama under oath as he probes potential White House involvement in opening a investigation into unproven ties between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.

Graham says one of the biggest remaining mysteries in the Trump-Russia saga that needs to be unraveled is who told President Obama about the counterintelligence investigation into then-candidate Trump. The South Carolina Republican wants answers from the former president.

As part of his probe, Graham is prepared to call former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former FBI Director James Comey, former CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to testify.

Graham joined Sean Hannity on Fox News on Wednesday night to say he was determined to get to the bottom of the launching of the Trump-Russia investigation, and that the "bottom line" for him was figuring out what Obama knew, when he knew it, and whom he learned it from.

"I can't imagine an investigation of the Republican nominee for president ‐ a counterintelligence investigation of his campaign ‐ was not approved at the highest level," Graham said last night. "I cannot imagine it happening without somebody in the White House knowing about it."

Rage Against The Regime – Hong Kong Demonstrators Keep Resisting Beijing Authoritarian Dictates…
[Last Refuge] The protests and demonstrations began in mid-June, centered around the now-suspended extradition bill that would have allowed people in Hong Kong to be sent to mainland China for trial in courts controlled by the Communist Party. Today, those protests are outlawed by Chinese authorities, organizers have been disappeared, and yet the protests continue.

Eric, a 22-year-old student, told Reuters news agency: "Telling us not to protest is like telling us not to breathe. I feel it’s my duty to fight for democracy. Maybe we win, maybe we lose, but we fight."

SF streets are a tragedy waiting to happen. Do we have the will to head it off?
head it off? Is he still talking about Kamala?
[San Francisco Chronicle] People in this town are becoming increasingly disgusted with the behavior they have to deal with on the streets.

When there is no law enforcement, even law-abiding people are going to stop being tolerant and humane. They may even take matters into their own hands.

Whether it’s someone half out of his mind on meth or a mentally ill person throwing things around in a store or going off in a Starbucks, it’s just a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt ‐ and it could be the one who’s acting out.

The recent North Beach incident in which a truffle store owner’s son came to his defense with a baseball bat after the father scuffled with a man he said was causing a disturbance could easily have ended in tragedy.

I don’t recommend using a bat, but there are times on the street when I would have felt safer if I’d had one.

Superior Court Judge Ross Moody did the right thing the other day when he ordered Austin James Vincent to remain in custody while awaiting trial on false imprisonment, battery and attempted robbery charges. Vincent is the man who was arrested in the attack on a woman trying to enter her Embarcadero condo building after a night out with friends. She says her assailant told her he was trying to protect her from robots.

Far away from you
You will see me in dreams
You will feel my kisses
and you will hear my laughter

if you feel alone
and you are in silence
think about my touches
and our secrets
I want to be in your soul
a happy moment
I will love you forever
I will live within you

Seemingly unhinged idiots, one with a well written 'manifesto' about immigrants the writer of which just couldn't keep climate change out of it . Attacks on ICE, a citizen census agency, and mostly legal immigrant populations at the same time. And the perps always 'under=the-radar' boys who exhibited promise of violence but just never got round to it, until now.

It is rather suspect that the antifa were planning a siege on Texas border areas, or claimed they were, and then some relative unknowns start this blitzkreig.

Read it and ask yourself if the CIA really can and really would brainwash people into committing these types of atrocities, just like Charlie Manson, especially with the likes of John Brennan and Baraq Obama running the show. I don't know the answer but even before I read this book I knew that something about all these shootings stinks and it's not the AR-15. The Manson Family did it all with knives but there were a helluva lot of instances where Manson and his followers should have been jailed for lesser crimes but were let off the hook. It was like he had a Get Out Of Jail Free card. And now, there have been way too many times when the FBI and other authorities failed to enforce laws, policies and procedures that would have prevented these whackos from getting their hands on any type of gun.

Qatar announces drastic cut in funding for Gazan fuel — report
[IsraelTimes] Surprise statement comes as Israel said to restore supply to coastal enclave, after week-long cut in response to spike in rocket attacks.

...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...

...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip said Sunday his government would cut its funding for fuel shipments to Gaza, needed to power the enclave’s lone power station, by half, Army Radio reported Sunday.

The statement comes within hours of Israel reportedly restoring shipments of fuel it cut last week over a spate of rocket fire and other violence from the enclave.

Qatar is signed on a contract, together with the UN, to supply three million liters of fuel weekly for electricity production in Gaza through the end of 2019. If the reports are correct, the envoy, Mohammed al-Emadi, appears to have unilaterally withdrawn from the agreement, telling Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", officials on Sunday that Doha would only pay for 1.5 million liters each week.

The decision could reduce electricity supply in the territory to just six hours a day, Army Radio calculated on Sunday morning.

The reports appear to have caught both Israel and Hamas by surprise. Israel’s COGAT, the Defense Ministry agency that manages contact with Paleostinian society and civilian agencies, said it was looking into the reports and had reached out to officials in the Qatari government for clarification.

On Saturday, the Paleostinian news site Sawa reported that on Sunday Israel would end its own cutback of fuel supplies to Gaza, which it imposed on August 26 after a three-week spike in rocket fire and attempted infiltrations into Israel by button men from the Strip.

The regular supply to Gaza’s power station was resumed Sunday morning.

Egyptian mediators told Hamas officials at a meeting in Cairo on Friday that Israel would resume the supply if the weekend passed without violence. That afternoon, some 6,000 Gazook protesters gathered at the border fence, with several throwing grenades and improvised bombs at IDF soldiers, and four were arrested by Israeli troops after attempting to jump the border fence carrying knives and a grenade, according to the IDF. One soldier was lightly hurt in the violence.

Epstein disappearances begin, Jean-Luc Brunel cannot be found
[MAIL] A millionaire model agency boss who is thought to have key information about the Jeffrey Epstein scandal 'has disappeared like a ghost without a trace'.

Jean-Luc Brunel, 72, has vanished as police seek to ask the Frenchman 'urgent' questions about the paedophile.

Investigators are making enquiries in Brazil, the US and Europe and French prosecutors are also pursuing claims relating to the financier, who died aged 66 before he could face the latest allegations.

A friend of Prince Andrew, predator Epstein killed himself in jail on August 10 as he faced child sex trafficking charges.

Hezbollah attacks near Avivim, Israel, scene of notorious 1970 school bus rocket attack
[LI] Israeli raids on Iranian bases in Syria killed two Hezbollah operatives working with the Iranians to launch drone attacks on Israel. That same day, Israel reportedly destroyed key Iranian missile manufacturing equipment in the heart of Hezbollah’s Beirut stronghold, using small copter-drones.

Everyone expected some form of Hezbollah retaliation ‐ enough so it could save face for these two losses, but not so much that it would spark a wider war. In the past few years, Hezbollah retaliation has been done with guided anti-tank missile attacks on Israeli vehicles along the Lebanese border or in disputed areas claimed by both Israel and Lebanon.

And so it happened again, Hezbollah fired anti-tank missiles striking one or more vehicles near the Israeli community of Moshav Avivim.

Beijing's worst nightmare from Hong Kong is on the horizon
[WSJ via American Thinker] Here's a Wall Street Journal report to send shivers down the spines of the old gray men ruling Beijing, emphasis mine.
More than one million people have moved from mainland China to live, work and study in Hong Kong since 1997, when the U.K. handed over the city’s sovereignty to Beijing. Many of them share the antipathy for the protesters expressed by state-media portrayals across the border. Some, like a group of immigrants from Fujian province in the city’s North Point neighborhood, even fought against the protesters, answering a call from Beijing.

But a small cohort of mainlanders have joined the demonstrations, taking extraordinary risks to support a society that offers freedoms unavailable back home.

"My understanding is that ’one country, two systems’ is a creative set of ideals," Ms. Chen said. "Now those ideals are threatened."

In more than a dozen interviews, these outliers said they value Hong Kong’s autonomy from Chinese control, especially when it comes to the city’s legal system and freedom of expression. They have joined marches, signed open online letters supporting Hong Kong and defended the movement in social-media battles against state-backed critics and misinformation.
In short, there's evidence that amid that sea of millions of Hongkongers protesting communism from China, some of them are mainland Chinese. Message: the mainland Chinese are getting ideas. The Chicoms of Beijing cannot wall them out from Hong Kong nor can they stop this.

And this raises the specter of what happens when they return to China, because many of these Chinese have their families there, and they will. Are these Chinese going to return back to China and spread that democracy 'virus' they passionately embraced in Hong Kong, kicking off similar protests in Chengdu, Tianjin, Harbin, Shenzhen, Wuhan and other giant cities to duplicate what the Hongkongers launched? It actually seems plausible. What's more, it will be an awakening as Chinese finally come to the realization that they deserve the same freedoms their fellow Chinese in Hong Kong have enjoyed until recently. When ten or twelve Chinese megacities start holding the kinds of protests Hong Kong is holding, Bejing's old gray rulers will have a hell of a problem on their hands. And that is their worst, their very worst, nightmare.

Such protests would signal that the Mandate of Heaven is about to fall and big changes will be in store. That would explain why China's rulers are acting so nervous about it, desperate to check cellphones of returning mainlanders and whip out the facial-recognition technology. If the Hong Kong protests spread to the mainland as a result of the regime's failure to pacify the tiny enclave, that Mandate will, ironically enough, go down into Victoria Harbour.

General Flynn's New Attorney Accuses Mueller's Team Of Misconduct And The New York Times Suffers Fecal Incontinence
[Red State] General Mike Flynn’s legal team was back in US District Court on Friday and his new attorney, Sidney Powell, came loaded for bear. Rather than walk away from the plea deal, Powell wants additional discovery with the stated intention of a) obtaining sanctions against the Mueller team prosecutors who were operating under the direction of the lawless Andrew Weissmann (h/t to Will Chamberlain for the scans of Powell’s filing).

The issue is Weissmann’s goons concealing Brady material (see the explainer). This is a hot button issue with the judge in this case, Emmett Sullivan. Sullivan, by standing order, instructs prosecutors of their duty divulge exculpatory material to the defense and he his the guy who tossed Ted Stevens’s conviction because of the grotesque misconduct by the Department of Justice.

Here is sort of seems like that when the prosecutors were forced to cough up more material, there was exculpatory material included but they tried to paper over the concealment by stating the material was not covered.

#1  The problem is, there appears to be no actual penalty for withholding evidence. So it costs the prosecution nothing.

Wiki: The Brady doctrine is a pretrial discovery rule that was established by the United States Supreme Court in Brady v. Maryland (1963). The rule requires that the prosecution must turn over all exculpatory evidence to the defendant in a criminal case. Exculpatory evidence is evidence that might exonerate the defendant.

Deep State's Page, Strzok Conducted FBI's Review to Classify Comey's Memos
[Breitbart] NEW YORK ‐ Former FBI employees Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, the once romantically-linked duo infamous for their anti-Trump text messages, conducted the initial agency review of disgraced ex-FBI chief James Comey’s memos to determine whether the documents contained any potentially classified information.

Working on the initial classification review with Page and Strzok was another member of Comey’s inner circle, James A. Baker, the former FBI general counsel.

Those details were contained inside the report released last Thursday by the Justice Department’s inspector-general.

The IG report related that Strzok characterized himself, Page, Baker, and the Unit Chief of the FBI’s Counterintelligence Law Unit in the FBI’s Office of General Counsel as a "logical subset to sit and go through" Comey’s memos memorializing his conversations with Trump to determine classification.

Strzok told the FBI that it made sense that this team conducted the initial classification review because the members had a lot of "history and experience of working investigations relating to ... the disclosure of classified information," including the FBI’s Clinton email investigation.

That would be the same Clinton email investigation that became the subject of a separate 500-plus page IG report in June 2018 that was highly critical of actions taken by Comey and his team.

The IG report described an extraordinary system of communication set up between Page and former deputy director Andrew McCabe that bypassed the ordinary chain of command to communicate important information about the agency’s probe of Clinton’s email server. The method of communication involved Strzok, who was romantically involved with Page, sending information on the Clinton probe to McCabe through Page, the previous IG report found.

Peter Strzok, the former FBI agent who opened the bureau’s Russia probe in 2016 and later became a symbol of alleged “deep state” animus for Donald Trump, is suing the government over his firing.

In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday, Strzok excoriates the Justice Department and FBI for their handling of his dismissal over a trove of text messages he wrote to a colleague that were critical of Trump. Strzok accuses the president of inappropriately bullying law enforcement officials deciding his fate, raises questions about why his texts were leaked to the media and lambastes the administration for only defending its employees’ free speech rights when they are praising Trump.

U-2 spy planes have lurked all over the world for 64 years ‐ here's how the Dragon Lady keeps an eye on the battlefield
[Bus Insider] The 64th anniversary of the U-2 spy plane's historic, and accidental, first flight came in early August.

While much about the Dragon Lady has changed in the past six decades ‐ most of the 30 or so in use now were built in the 1980s, and they no longer do overflights of hostile territory, like the 1960 flight on which Francis Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union ‐ the U-2 is still at the front of the military's intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance mission, lurking off coastlines and above battlefields.

The U-2 is probably most famous for what pilots call "the optical bar camera," Maj. Travis "Lefty" Patterson, a U-2 pilot, said at an Air Force event in New York City in May.

#5  The Chinese used the U2s given them by the CIA in the 60s to great effect, surveying the entire mainland, Taiwanese territory, all up to Honshu island, Japan. They flew from Taoyun airbase in Taiwan.

In the late 70s, when the UN's romance with the KuoMintang ended, they could not use the Taiwan bases or planes again. They relied on radio, old maps and surveys until some indigenous version of the Martin's 57D was made, of course by modifying the commercially available model. Two of these were subsequently crashed. One in Nepal and another in the sea.

By the 80s, china was stealing tech from America, Canada and Japan and had 'reverse engineers' working to reproduce materials and hardware like crazy to produce their own versions of UAVs, reportedly being tested in Irvine and another in Tampa. But they were blind for want of a decent 'eye in the sky' for a long while.

It was the Dragon Lady that granted America and allies to dominate the international intelligence game far into east Asia till the late 90s.

Seth Ator, 36, reportedly identified as Texas shooter
[NYPOST] The assault rifle-toting madman who killed seven people and maimed more than 20 others in a roving Texas spree was identified Sunday as Seth Ator.

Ator, a 36-year-old resident of Odessa, Texas, was first named as the assailant by CBS News, citing law-enforcement sources.

When his gold Toyota pick-up truck was pulled over for a minor signaling infraction along a stretch of I-20 near Midland, Texas, on Saturday, Ator blasted approaching state troopers, seriously wounding one, authorities have said.

He then peeled off, firing indiscriminately with his AR-style rifle out of the truck as he floored it towards Odessa, authorities said.

Along the way, he killed a USPS worker and hijacked her mail truck, continuing the spree, officials said.

He made his last stand in the parking lot of an Odessa movie theater, where he was killed in a shootout with cops as horrified onlookers prayed for their lives.

Authorities are yet to identify a concrete motive behind the onslaught.

Texas mass shooter had record of criminal trespass and evading arrest

[Washington Examiner] Details are beginning to emerge about the gunman who killed seven and injured at least 19 others during a shooting rampage in Odessa and Midland, Texas on Saturday.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Seth Ator, had a criminal record dating back to his teenage years.

In 2002, Ator pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and evading arrest, both misdemeanors in Texas. He avoided jail time but received two years of probation according to public records, which indicate the crimes took place in McLennan County. Adjudication was deferred in the case, which can be granted to first-time offenders and allows a conviction to be kept off of one’s record.

He also got a traffic citation in 2018 for a federal motor carrier safety violation while in Ector County, the same county in which Odessa is located.

According to ABC 25, Ator was from Lorena, Texas, a small city of about 1,500 people located in the Waco metropolitan area in the central-eastern part of the state. People who knew Ator said that he graduated from Lorena High School in 2001, a school that currently enrolls about 570 students. People in the area said they had lost touch with the Ator family over the past five years.

Ator’s parents divorced in 1987, and his mother and father now live in Amarillo and San Antonio respectively, according to Heavy. He reportedly has one sister, and his family has long roots in Texas.

"Related: Neighbor of Texas gunman says he threatened her with rifle last month" along with recent other red flags in the article. Police were called on these incidents but would not respond.

Former Secret Service agent Jonathan Wacrow called the shooter's actions toward Alonzo "behavioral red flags" and wondered why police reportedly failed to act during a CNN interview on Sunday.

"The fact that a neighbor called the police on this one incident, and they didn’t act, that has to be fully investigated," he said. "That's what we always talk about here at this desk in the aftermath of these crisis situations when we look back at who these people are, and we say, 'Look, we clearly see there was a leading indicator of the propensity for violence.'"

He added, "We need to stop that along that behavioral continuum before someone transcends into an act of mass shooting and it creates these horrific events."

Seventh Illegal Alien Arrested In Montgomery County On Sexual Abuse Charges
[DAILYCALLER] Emilio Carrasco-Hernandez was arrested in Montgomery County, Maryland, for allegedly raping a minor, making him at least the seventh illegal alien to be recently arrested for sex crimes.

Carrasco-Hernandez, a 37-year-old Honduran national, was arrested by local authorities for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, according to a police report first obtained by ABC 7 News. He was previously deported from the U.S. in April 2017, but was able to re-enter the country sometime afterward.

Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations began looking into sexual abuse allegations against Carrasco-Hernandez on Aug. 25, the date when the attack allegedly took place. The 15-year-old girl was in her grandmother’s bedroom when Carrasco-Hernandez allegedly pulled down her pants and underwear, and began to bite down on her breasts, according to the police report.

He then allegedly began to rape the maiden of tender years, holding her down so she could not move. The victim reported a "stinging" feeling afterward, and had "trouble using the bathroom." The victim at the time was under the care and custody of her mother and Carrasco-Hernandez, where they all were living together in a home in Silver Spring, Maryland, according to the police report.

French prosecutor: Knife attack suspect in ‘psychotic state’
[NYPOST] An Afghan man was in a "psychotic state" and on drugs during a stabbing in La Belle France that killed one person and injured eight others, but Sherlocks haven’t found any terrorist ties, a regional prosecutor said Sunday.

A psychiatric evaluation of the man in jug for Saturday’s attack revealed he was experiencing "paranoid delirium," prosecutor Nicolas Jacquet said.

The suspect reported he "heard voices" telling him to kill, according to Jacquet. A 19-year-old man died after being stabbed with a knife in the attack outside a subway station in the Lyon suburb of Villeurbanne.

Passers-by surrounded and apprehended the assailant before police arrived, according to the prosecutor. He thanked them.

"Their courageous, responsible intervention was decisive," Jacquet told news hounds.

A witness broadcaster BFMTV identified as Sofiane described trying to help people who were stabbed and rounding up others to go after the attacker.

The man from Afghanistan in jug has been living in a French center for asylum-seekers, and held a temporary French residency card, Jacquet said. The suspect was first recorded in La Belle France in 2009, and subsequently traveled to Britannia, Italia, Germany and Norway before returning to La Belle France in 2017.

Iran unveils new reconnaissance and attack drone
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
on Sunday unveiled a jet-propelled drone it said is capable of finding and attacking targets far from the country’s borders with precision.

Dubbed the "Kian," the unmanned aerial vehicle was designed, produced and tested by experts of the air defense force within about a year, said the head of the force, Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard.
"KIiiiiaaann!"
The drone comes in two models capable of "surveillance and reconnaissance missions and continuous flight for precision missions," state news agency IRNA quoted him as saying.

"This drone can undertake any drone missions we entrust it with... it can fly more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) and find its target with precision," he said.

The newly launched UAV can carry different munitions and can climb to an altitude of 5,000 meters (15,000 feet), according to state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
"This unmanned aircraft is capable of hitting targets far from the country’s borders and undertaking air defense from the enemy’s territory," said Sabahifard.

Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
movement and a Red Thingy official said on Sunday.

The Sunni Moslem coalition, which has been battling the Iran-aligned Houthis for over four years in Yemen, said it destroyed a site storing drones and missiles in Dhamar.

Franz Rauchenstein, head of the International Committee of the Red Thingy delegation in Yemen, said after visiting the prison complex and hospitals on Sunday that a "safe presumption is that over 100 had been killed".

The Houthi health ministry earlier said at least 60 bodies were pulled from the rubble at the detention centre, which officials said housed 170 prisoners.

"There are three buildings hit and the building where the detainees were located, most of them or the majority has been killed," Rauchenstein told Rooters by telephone.

"The prisoners in that facility were prisoners that we had visited in relation to the conflict."

He said the Yemeni Red Islamic Thingy Society was still trying to retrieve bodies and that around 50 injured people had been taken to hospital.

Residents told Rooters there had been six air strikes.

"The explosions were strong and shook the city," a resident said. "Afterwards ambulance sirens could be heard until dawn."

Ginsburg On Cancer Treatment: ‘I’m On My Way To Being Very Well’
[DAILYCALLER] Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said her health is improving after a fourth bout with cancer Saturday, telling a friendly audience in Washington, D.C., that her work sustains her during difficult periods.

The Supreme Court announced Aug. 23 that the 86-year-old progressive icon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

"This audience can see that I am alive," Ginsburg said during a Saturday appearance at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C. "And I’m on my way to being very well."

The justice was present to discuss a volume of her writings published in 2016 called "My Own Words." Mary Hartnett and Wendy Williams, the justice’s biographers, also joined Ginsburg on stage.

Ginsburg completed a three-week course of outpatient radiation therapy Aug. 23 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, after doctors identified a malignant tumor on her pancreas. The Supreme Court’s Public Information Office said the justice "tolerated treatment well" and shows no evidence of remaining disease. The high court’s senior liberal also had pancreatic cancer in 2009.

"The tumor was treated definitively and there is no evidence of disease elsewhere in the body," the statement said. "Justice Ginsburg will continue to have periodic blood tests and scans. No further treatment is needed at this time."

Treated definitively means that they executed their planned treatment.
No evidence of disease elsewhere means other than the tumor.

China plans more support for its economy
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] China plans to provide more support for its economy, including investing in infrastructure projects and regional development, while maintaining a prudent monetary policy with "reasonably" ample liquidity, the State Council said on Sunday.

As the world's second-largest economy weathers its biggest slowdown in decades, the State Council said the government aimed to better integrate fiscal, financial and monetary policies, deepen capital market reforms and further open up the financial sector.

"We attach great importance to the development of infrastructure, high-tech, traditional industrial transformation, social services and new growth regions," the State Council said in a statement following a meeting of the Financial Stability and Development Commission (FSDC) chaired by Vice Premier Liu He on Saturday.

China's economy faces pressures from a bruising trade war with the United States. The two countries began imposing additional tariffs on each other's goods on Sunday, the latest escalation in the trade dispute, despite signs that talks would resume some time this month.

China's vast manufacturing sector shrank in August for the fourth month in a row, data showed on Saturday, although the services sector picked up for the first time in five months.

The State Council said the government would also encourage banks to use more innovative tools to replenish capital through multiple channels, but did not elaborate.

US bombs jihadist group near Idlib city, dozens killed
[ALMASDARNEWS] The U.S. military reportedly bombed a group of jihadist rebels near the city of Idlib in northern Syria, local activists reported this afternoon.

According to the reports, the U.S. fired cruise missiles at a base belonging to the Hurras al-Deen group near the northeastern outskirts of Idlib city.

The reports said that dozens of jihadists, most of them foreigners, were killed during the U.S. military’s attack on the Hurras al-Deen base near Idlib city.

Some other reports have claimed that the attack was actually carried out by the Russian Navy; however, there has been no confirmation.

If the U.S. is indeed behind this attack, it would mark the second time this year that they have bombed a jihadist base in the Idlib Governorate.

Haftar's forces strike Murzuq in southern Libya
[Libya Observer] The member of Murzuq municipality Mohammed Omar said a warplane for Khalifa Haftar's forces struck Saturday afternoon Murzuq in southern Libya twice.

Omar told the German news agency that between six and eight people had been killed in airstrikes on eastern part of the town - Anti-Desertification Project - near the meteorology building where many houses are located.

"Murzuq is under the command of the Presidential Council's government in Tripoli. It has been hit by four airstrikes in the last two weeks alone, without casualties." Omar added.

Sources in Al-Jufra said Haftar's forces were preparing a convoy of armed forces heading to Murzuq after Presidential Council's South Protection Force had seized the town following deadly clashes.

"90 civilians were killed and over 200 others injured in the latest clashes in Murzuq. Over 16.000 people were displaced to nearby towns." UN humanitarian coordinator's office has reported.

It added that 1300 people have been displaced from Murzuq to Al-Jufra and Benghazi due to the recent fighting.

It lies on the northern edge of the Murzuq Desert, an extremely arid region of ergs or great sand dunes which is part of the greater Sahara Desert.

Belgian ISIS butcher dubbed 'the executioner of Raqqa' who beheaded more than 100 people in terror stronghold while claiming benefits in Britain is captured in Syria
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • Anouar Haddouchi dubbed 'executioner of Raqqa' after beheading 100 people

  • Him and his wife were captured after the battle for last ISIS stronghold, Baghouz

  • They are now being held in a prison run by the Syrian Democratic Forces

  • Haddouchi, 35, is originally from Belgium but moved to Birmingham in 2009

  • The couple received nearly £10,000 in housing benefit while they were in Syria
Haddouchi was unable withdraw the money in Raqqa because of the lack of international banks.

But £3,000 was taken out of his account by accomplices in July 2015 and was handed to the man responsible for planning the November 2015 Paris attacks and 2016 Brussels bombings, Mohamed Abrini.
“The man with the hat” is in our archives mostly as Mohammed Abrini. The £3,000 in question was reported here, though Mr. Haddouchi is only described, not mentioned by name.

Beetle Drops F-Bomb On Live CNN Interview
[DAILYCALLER] Democratic 2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke;
...Kennedyeque businessman, musician, skateboard artiste, and politician who represented Texas' 16th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. Beto is a Latino nickname for people whose names end in "erto," like "Roberto" or "Alberto." He is seeking the Dem nomination for President in 2020 because he has nice hair and lots of teeth. He was born into a local political family in El Paso, Texas and is a graduate of a prep school and Columbia University, which is not in Texas. In 2005, he was elected to the El Paso City Council. He was elected to Congress in 2012 after defeating eight-term incumbent Silvestre Reyes in the Democratic primary. He declined to seek re-election in 2018, instead running for the Senate against Republican Ted Cruz, running a campaign that drew national attention because of his skateboarding skills. A few months after he lost, he announced his campaign for President...
let the f-bomb slip during a Sunday morning interview with CNN’s Dana Bash.
SO Edgy™
Bash, who was sitting in for Jake Tapper on "State of the Union," began the segment by showing video of the former Texas congressman discussing gun violence at a recent event ‐ and in that video, O’Rourke’s use of the term "f**ked up" was bleeped.

O’Rourke followed that clip by dropping the same term on the live show.

"The rhetoric that we’ve used, the thoughts and prayers that you just referred to, it has done nothing to stop the epidemic of gun violence, to protect our kids, our families, our fellow Americans in public places," O’Rourke began, listing a few of the more recent tragedies. "At a Walmart in El Paso where 22 were killed. In Sutherland Springs, in a church. One or two a day all over this country, 100 killed daily in the United States of America."

"We’re averaging about 300 mass shootings a year," O’Rourke continued, letting the profanity slip. "So yes, this is fucked up. If we don’t call it out for what it is, if we’re not able to speak clearly, if we’re not able to act decisively, we’ll continue to have this kind of bloodshed in America. And I cannot accept that. We’re going to speak as defiantly and as strongly as we can but we’re also going to take action. Universal background checks, red flag laws, end of the sales of weapons of war and buying those AK-47s and AR-15s back so they cannot be used against our fellow Americans."

Anderson Davis, 17-month-old shot in Texas rampage, expected to survive
[NYPOST] The family of a 17-month-old girl who was struck by a bullet fragment during the latest Texas mass shooting on Saturday says she will survive — but they’re hoping donations will help with her medical bills.

Anderson Davis was grazed by shrapnel on the right side of her chest, according to a GoFundMe page set up on behalf of her family.

More shrapnel knocked out her front teeth and tore a hole in her bottom lip and tongue, the page reveals.

“She is alive,” family friend Haylee Wilkerson wrote in setting up the fundraiser.

“When others today are not alive.

“I ask you to continue praying for our hearts as we experience this, pray for complete healing of Anderson, pray for every other family in our same situation, or worse, today and pray for the shooters,” she wrote, describing Anderson as a “sweet sweet baby girl who is so little and doesn’t realize what is happening.”

“Pray that whatever is causing them to do this will be defeated by God and they will stop shooting,” the post says.

The New York Times interviewed an eyewitness to Anderson’s shooting.

“She was conscious, but she was just covered in blood,” Junior Bejarano, 20, said of finding the tot in her car seat outside the Twin Peaks restaurant, where he is an employee.

#1  He's not a RAW 'operative'. He's an idiot. Not that there aren't any idiots in the RAS.

Firstly, Kulbhushan is a hindu from Maharashtra, an unlikely deep cover asset. We don't use such a distinctly diverse ethnicity in the bloody 'Stain. It's like asking an Australian to infiltrate into Cameroon as a Sheik.

Secondly, these boys don't cross borders illegally. They generally travel executive-class into Pakistain and out. There are no 'wet-suit' incursions and late night LALO drops, just a fat, beady eyed, Paki traitor waiting to receive us at Jinnah International.

Lastly, if we want information from Pakistain, it's easier to buy it from the brass itself. Give 'em enough money and they'll sell their own citizens' organs.

Kulbhushan was ex-navy. He had a business with Iranian partners. Also, it's rather difficult for Indians with hindu names to do business there so he may have have faked some ID to get permits. He may have faced some difficulties with local mafias, approached some INT guy through his old navy contacts hoping to get RAW's protection. Whether he got it or not is immaterial. The Pakis may have misconstrued such a conversation for 'spying'. It's a stretch, the case.

The Times of Israel adds:
In response to Sunday’s attack, the Israeli military said its artillery cannons and attack helicopters fired approximately 100 shells and bombs at Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.

Conricus said the IDF considered the “tactical event on the ground” to be over as of Sunday evening, but that the larger strategic threat posed by Hezbollah on the border remained. The IDF remained on high alert Sunday evening, officials said.

Reacting to the incident at the opening of a Honduras diplomatic office in Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu boasted that no Israelis were so much as “scratched” by the Hezbollah attack.

Pillion riding to be banned in Karachi from eve of 9th Muharram, says Sindh CM
[DAWN] Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Sunday approved a ban on pillion riding in Karachi from the night of the 8th of Muharram until Ashura in order to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident.

In a meeting with officials of government and law enforcement agencies, the chief minister said that while he is not in favour of pillion riding, the recent murder of a doctor by motorcyclists has "forced him to take the decision". In the rest of the province, the ban will be imposed on the 9th and 10th of the Islamic month.

Shah said that while there had been no major untoward incident in Sindh in the past three years, the killing of the doctor shows that the government "still has a lot to do".

"We have done our best in the restoration of law and order situation in the city (Karachi) but we still have to do a lot," he told the attendees.

#1  Sidecars for all!

#2  What the hell is pillion riding? I'm guessing it's a Paki term for riding in a sidecar while gunning down infidels with a AK.

Am I wrong?

#3  A pillion is a second seat for a passenger on motorcycle right behind the driver.

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised they don't do the sidecar/AK-47 thing.

ATM robber whose video went viral dies in police custody in Rahim Yar Khan
[DAWN] A man from Gujranwala, whose video of robbing an ATM went viral owing to his antics, died early on Sunday while in police custody.

The man identified as Salahuddin Ayubi of Gujranwala's Kamonkay district was arrested on Friday. According to the district police officer's spokesperson Zeeshan Randhawa, Ayubi was behaving like a "mad man" in lockup when he suddenly became unwell. He said that the man was unconscious when he was shifted to the emergency ward of Sheikh Zayed Medical College Hospital where doctors confirmed his death.

As per Randhawa, Ayubi was dead when he was brought to the hospital. According to the focal person for the hospital Dr Burhan Mustafa, the director of the emergency ward could not comment on the condition in which he was brought to the hospital.

The DPO's spokesperson said that the reason for Ayubi's death would be ascertained after a post-mortem report is issued. Additionally, he said that DPO Umar Farooq Salamat had constituted an inquiry team, headed by Superintendent of Police Investigation, to look into the matter.

In a video that went viral on social media a few days ago, Ayubi was seen stealing an ATM card after breaking open a machine in Faisalabad and sticking his tongue out in jest at both the camera in the corner of the booth and the one installed in the machine itself.

On Friday, he once again entered an ATM booth — this time in Rahim Yar Khan — and was in the process of breaking the machine's exterior when he was caught red-handed by other customers. The incident occurred on Shahi road at Habib Bank Limited.

Syrian Army reinforcements pour into west Aleppo amid reports of new offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] A large number of reinforcements from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) made their way to the western part of Aleppo this week amid reports of a new offensive at this front.

According to a military source in northern Syria, the Syrian Army is preparing to launch a new operation to expel the jihadist rebels of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
from the western outskirts of Aleppo city.

Despite retaking east Aleppo in late 2016, the Syrian Army still does not fully control the city, as the jihadists maintain a presence in the al-Zahraa Quarter and Scientific Research area.

Over the last few days, the jihadist rebels have intensified their attacks on western Aleppo, prompting the Syrian Army to raise their alert levels around the city.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham is considered the strongest jihadist group in the area, as their offensives against the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels, including Harakat Nouriddeen al-Zinki, gave them control of the western countryside of Aleppo.

The Syrian Army has repeatedly demanded that the jihadists withdraw from the western part of Aleppo; however, their calls have been met with hostility from HTS and its loyalists.

Flights cancelled after Hong Kong protesters target airport
[DAWN] More than a dozen flights were cancelled Sunday as thousands of pro-democracy activists blocked routes to Hong Kong's airport, a day after protesters and police fought pitched battles in some of the worst violence seen in the city since unrest began three months ago.

At least 16 flights were cancelled, the airport's website said, with the departure hall packed with a backlog of passengers who had struggled to make it to the terminals.

Earlier, operators of the Airport Express train suspended services after the station was besieged, while black-clad protesters — hiding from CCTV cameras under umbrellas — built barricades at the bus terminus and attempted to stop traffic on the main road leading to the facility.

Stranded travellers were forced to abandon their lifts and drag their luggage along the airport road.

Argentina cenbank tightens FX market access
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Argentine government has authorized the central bank to restrict currency purchases, according to a decree published in an official bulletin on Sunday.

The decree includes major exporters, which will need permission from the central bank to access the FX market to purchase foreign currency and make transfers abroad.

“Given various factors that impacted the evolution of the Argentine economy and the uncertainty in the financial markets, the executive branch needed to adopt a series of extraordinary measures aimed at ensuring the normal functioning of the economy, sustaining the level of activity and employment and protecting consumers,” the decree said.

The measure is a step further by the central bank after it announced on Friday that banks would need to seek prior authorization before distributing their earnings, in order to “avoid any lack of money” and safeguard the liquidity of the country’s financial system.

Some private economists said the policy announced Friday, which could limit the availability of hard peso currency to financial institutions, looked like a return to capital controls in Latin America’s third-largest economy.

Geagea rejects placing Lebanon in ‘a devastating war’ amid regional tensions

warned on Sunday that "it is unacceptable to put Leb in front of the possibility of a devastating war" amid regional tensions.

"What remains of a state status and a powerful era, if the strategic decision in the hands of parties outside the state institutions," Geagea.

"We do not understand on what standards one of the Lebanese parties today wants to push Leb and its people into the confrontation between the United States and Iran," he added.

On Sunday, Hezbollah said its fighters destroyed an Israeli military vehicle, killing or wounding those inside. There was no immediate word from the Israeli military on any casualties.

Geagea also called in a tweet upon President Michel Aoun

Israel has been on alert for a possible confrontation with Hezbollah for the past week after drones attacked what security officials in the region described as a target in a Beirut suburb linked to precision-guided missile projects.
