[AlAhram] A US national park comprising a cluster of uninhabited islands in the Florida Keys was closed Monday after 300 migrants colonists made 10 landings there over the weekend, officials said.
Dry Tortugas National Park, about 70 miles west of Key West, was closed so law enforcement and medical personnel could evaluate the migrants colonists before moving them to Key West, the park tweeted.
"The closure, which is expected to last several days, is necessary for the safety of visitors and staff because of the resources and space needed to attend to the migrants colonists," park officials said in their statement.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a tweet that at least 88 migrants colonists were from Cuba.
The national park is at the southern tip of the continental U.S. and attracts scuba divers and snorkelers for its coral reefs, nesting sea turtles, tropical fish and shipwrecks.

Military officials who asked to remain anonymous told Shabelle Media Network that the gunnies snatched the people from different locations near Beledweyne city.
Some were taken from passenger vehicles traveling on the roads near the city with the SNA officials describing the abduction as Dire Revenge for the community’s involvement in the ongoing offensive against al-Shabaab in Hiran.
They added that the troops launched an operation to rescue the unarmed people from al-Shabaab. The hard boy group is yet to comment on the military claims.
Last week, two vehicles ferrying at least 20 people have been kidnapped by al-Shabaab in a remote area located between Halgan and Bulo-Burde within the province.
Dozens of people were killed and many more injured in the current war against al-Shabaab, which the government said gained more territory previously held by the group.
Somali president Hassan Sheikh said on Saturday in his new year’s address to the nation that 2023 will be a re-liberation and reforming of the economy and security year.

Two mini caravans were targeted by the bully boyz who are determined to make a point over the ongoing crackdown, witnesses said. The bully boyz blocked the road near Dheenweyne and opened fire, forcing drivers to try to seek refuge at the banks of the Shabelle River.
"Last night, between Maghrib and Isha prayers, al-Shabaab ambushed civilians coming from Halgan District to do business. They traveled in two vehicles, a Noha and a Homey, with roughly 20 passengers on board," a resident told the media in confidence due to the sensitivity of the matter.
"Al-Shabaab opened fire, and some individuals managed to leap out of the truck and flee, but they kidnapped the people who couldn't escape, mainly the elderly," explained the Dheenweyne local, while noting that the whereabouts of those kidnapped are still unknown.
After the incident, the al-Shabaab bully boyz seized the vehicle and dozens of passengers before crossing over the Shabelle River in Western Hiiraan. The group is active in Western parts of the troubled region where the government troops have been camping.
Last year, the group kidnapped at least 21 civilians and ended up slaughtering them in what is linked to local mobilization against the bully boyz in Hiiraan, Galgaduud, and Bay regions.
The group has significantly lost strategic towns and has reverted to desperate measures which include abducting innocent people.

The brother of Aamir Hayat, said, "we are not aware who was that agent, but we were lured and deceived with assurance that our relatives will reach Europe at any cost."

The families said a few youths of the area had earlier succeeded to reach Europe, and the agent used that "success" to attract the parents to pay according to his demand.
Saeedullah Jan, father of Bilal Khan, appealed to the Pak High Commissioner in Libya to play his role in release of the four men as they did not have enough money to get them freed from their captors.
They recalled that another four Pak youth were burnt to death when their boat caught fire mid-sea in the first week of October when they set out on a journey to reach Italia.
Notably, the Libyan Red Islamic Thingy said in a statement that rescue workers have recovered 15 bodies found on the coast in Sabratha. These included a number of bodies that were burned inside a boat and others on the beach.

[AlAhram] The bodies of 13 Moroccans have been recovered after their boat sank off the country's southern coast while attempting to reach Spain's Canary Islands, Moroccan media reported.
Spain is one of the main gateways for migrants colonists to reach Europe. Tens of thousands also try each year from the coastlines of other North African countries, including Libya where coastiess on Saturday rescued hundreds of migrants colonists.

In Germany a group of activist muppets glued themselves to the floor of a VW factory only to quickly realize this would make it difficult to use the bathroom. [ZeroHedge] German youth in migrant-heavy neighborhoods once again turned Berlin and other German cities into war zones on New Year’s Day, but this year, news reports indicate that attacks were especially brutal and targeted rescue services, including ambulance workers.
In Berlin, police and firefighters responded to 3,943 incidents, with 15 firefighters and 18 police officers injured. According to Bild newspaper, there were “particularly bad attacks in the hotspot neighborhoods of Kreuzberg and Neukölln with a high proportion of migrants.”
“There were dozens of attacks,” says Interior Senator Iris Spranger, of the Social Democrats (SPD).
In Kreuzberg, for example, after young men set fire to barricades, firefighters who arrived to extinguish the fire were attacked by 200 hooded men. In Neukölln, which is one of the most multicultural neighborhoods in Germany, 50 perpetrators fired rockets at emergency force services.
In one disturbing scene, a group of men were filmed attacking an ambulance, hurling objects inside the vehicle’s open rear doors.
Other videos show youths hurling rockets at ambulances as they attempt to drive down Berlin streets.
Many of the incidents were caught on film, with the clips featuring burning vehicles, fires in tall apartment blocks, and one police officer being struck by a rocket directly on his helmet, which then burst into flames. One officer and one firefighter suffered from severe injuries and remain hospitalized.
“Our vehicles were fired at with birdshot ammunition,” says Thomas Kirstein of the Berlin Fire Department. Police report that an “illegal bullet bomb” was thrown at a fully occupied police car. In another video, a man shoots out a police car window.
In the ensuing chaos, 103 people (98 men and five women) were arrested. The Berlin police wrote on Twitter, “The violence that our colleagues had to experience on New Year’s Eve is unbearable. It is a task for society as a whole to clearly counteract this. We thank you all for your commitment and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”
Another video showed migrant youth mocking a firefighter as he attempted to give an interview to news outlets.
The next morning, burned-out buses and automobiles could be seen across Berlin.
Georg Pazdersk, former AfD parliamentary group leader in the Berlin House of Representatives, wrote: “When are we finally going to admit that we have a huge problem with young male migrants from archaic societies who don’t want to integrate. Silencing the problem means continuing to promote it.”
Other cities, such as Duisburg, were hit with violence as well, including attacks on rescue services.
“One can only shake one’s head. The political leadership in Berlin takes no responsibility for this disaster. It has sympathy for people who break rules,” Neukölln’s former mayor, Social-Demcrat (SPD) Heinz Buschkowsky, told Bild.
“The lunatics are becoming are appearing more and more. Every festive event is a welcome occasion to attack the authorities…That’s the enemy, and they must be fought.”
“Even experienced emergency personnel are shocked by the extent of the brutality. This must finally come to an end. The state must no longer stand by while chaotic people repeatedly attack police officers and firefighters. These are not trivial offenses, they are crimes,” CDU Berlin chapter leader Kai Wegner told Bild.
Previous years also featured extreme violence, especially in Neukölln.
In a statement released by the AfD, the party wrote, “Anarchy reigned in Berlin on New Year’s Eve. It was a first foretaste of future everyday life in German cities because although the authorities and the press are adamantly silent when it comes to the specific naming of the perpetrators, the countless videos of that night speak volumes: They are young, violent men with a southern appearance who hardly speak German. And not only can they immigrate unhindered, they also get paid for a nice life by the traffic-light government with tax money.
The conclusion that is now being drawn from the riots is as typical as it is naïve: a ban on firecrackers and cameras on the rescue vehicles should fix it. Residents receive text alerts every time a high-speed pursuit occurs, Kinney County Sheriff’s office spokesman Matt Benacci told The Center Square. They primarily occur on Highway 90 through the small town of Brackettville heading in either direction to Uvalde County in the east or to Val Verde in the west.
“The type of crimes being committed, the increased violence, the willingness to risk dangerous encounters with law enforcement shows a more sophisticated, hardened criminal who may be higher up on the cartel food chain and doesn’t want to get caught,” Benacci said. “It’s different than others who respond to a social media ad hoping to earn a few thousand dollars to transport people north who get caught and try to get away.”
In neighboring Edwards County to the north, resident Deborah Douglas shared a video with The Center Square of a group of men also believed to be in Texas illegally who tried to break into her home. When they couldn’t break in, they broke into her neighbor’s house, she said. They also were never caught.
The judges of Kinney and Edwards counties were among the first to declare an invasion at the Texas-Mexico border in July. Since then, the judges and commissioners of at least 40 counties have declared an invasion.
Douglas told The Center Square she can’t go out on the front porch and have a cup of coffee without having her gun with her at her home in Edwards County.
“I can’t have my granddaughter outside alone playing,” she added, “because I’m afraid someone may kidnap her. Out here we are constantly looking over our shoulder, looking under bushes, listening to every sound, because we don’t know who might come on our property.
“It’s not safe to be anywhere by yourself out here,” she added. But it’s also not safe in Houston where she also lives and carries a gun inside her home, she told The Center Square. Houston, a primary destination for cartels, has seen increased violence as the largest city closest to the southern border.
“I’m worried about my children and grandchildren,” Douglas said. “Texas is going to become the new Mexico and it will be run by the cartels if [President Joe] Biden doesn’t shut down the border. He took an oath to defend the constitution and our laws, but instead opened the border to murderers, rapists, drug dealers, and known terrorists.”
“Gov. [Greg] Abbott needs to shut down the border – and he can do it,” she said.
In Real County, neighboring Edwards to the east, the sheriff’s office also sends alerts to residents. One recent alert told those in the Camp Wood area to be on alert after a vehicle pursuit and bailout. One “coyote was in custody,” the alert said, but “12-13 illegals [were in] the bush.”
“Be alert – lock your vehicles – notify law enforcement if illegals are observed in your area,” the alert warned.
Abbott has called on Biden to secure the border. The president has claimed the border is secure and has expressed no interest in visiting it. Because of his “refusal to do his job,” Abbott said, he launched Texas’ border security mission, Operation Lone Star, in March 2021. Since then, officers have apprehended more than 336,000 foreign nationals and made over 23,000 criminal arrests with over 20,000 felony charges reported as of Dec. 29.
Through OLS, more than 1,600 state troopers are working with hundreds of officers from local sheriff’s offices and police departments; at least 6,128 Texas National Guard members have been stationed at the border since last November, with another 3,700 Guardsmen and women deployed elsewhere.
Texas, which shares the longest border with Mexico of 1,254 miles, has had the lion’s share of illegal entries. In fiscal 2022, nearly 1.8 million people from over 150 countries were apprehended or evaded law enforcement, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data obtained by The Center Square from a Border Patrol agent.

Several hours to the east in rural Goliad County, law enforcement officers are finding stash houses used on private property and apprehending cartel and gang operatives.

Cartels “will come and set up in your back yard if you’re not fighting them. If you show no resistance to their efforts they will move into your area,” he said.
“This may not be a declared war,” Davis said, “but it’s a war. I’ve spent my entire adult life doing this, but we get beat on a daily basis.
“We can’t stop everyone heading north to Houston. We can’t secure the border. We can’t stop the floodgates of illegal immigration. But we are holding the line doing our part.”

The Israel Defense Forces said that during the operation in Kafr Dan, north of Jenin, troops came under "massive gunfire" by Paleostinian button men.
Others hurled explosives, stones, and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli forces, and set fire to tires, the IDF said.
"Troops responded with riot dispersal means and fired at a number of gunnies who fired at them," the IDF said, adding that "suspects were hit."
The dear departed were named by the Paleostinian Authority Health Ministry as Muhammad Hushiya, 22, and Fuad Abed, 25.
Hushiya was claimed as a member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades. His body was seen wrapped in the flag of the terror group ahead of his funeral.
Earlier in the night festivities had been reported between IDF soldiers and button men in the village, the hometown of two Paleostinian button men who carried out a deadly attack along the West Bank security barrier on September 14, killing Maj. Bar Falah, 30, the deputy commander of the elite Nahal reconnaissance unit.

In a statement, the IDF said troops had entered Kafr Dan to demolish the homes of Ahmed Abed and Abdul Rahman Abed, who were both killed in a shootout during the attack in September. Ahmed Abed was an officer in the Paleostinian Authority security services.

No soldiers were hurt during the incidents, the military said.

According to an official notice sent by Syrian aviation authorities, one runway at Damascus airport remains unusable, while the second has been shortened by 500 meters as a result of the strike — preventing large planes from landing.
