[Washington Compost] President Trump’s repeated assertions the United States is "rounding the turn" on the novel coronavirus have increasingly alarmed the government's top health experts, who say the country is heading into a long and potentially deadly winter with an unprepared government unwilling to make tough choices.
"We’re in for a whole lot of hurt. It’s not a good situation," Anthony S. Fauci, the country’s leading infectious-disease expert, said in a wide-ranging interview late Friday. "All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly."
Fauci, a leading member of the government’s coronavirus response, said the United States needed to make an "abrupt change" in public health practices and behaviors. He said the country could surpass 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day and predicted rising deaths in the coming weeks. He spoke as the nation set a new daily record Friday with more than 98,000 cases. As hospitalizations increase, deaths are also ticking up, with more than 1,000 reported Wednesday and Thursday, bringing the total to more than 230,000 since the start of the pandemic, according to health data analyzed by The Washington Post.
Fauci’s blunt warnings come as Trump has rallied in states and cities experiencing record surges in infections and hospitalizations in a last-ditch effort to convince voters he has successfully managed the pandemic. He has held maskless rallies with thousands of supporters, often in violation of local health mandates.
Even as new infections climb in 42 states, Trump has downplayed the virus or mocked those who take it seriously. "Covid-19, covid, covid, covid," he said during one event, lamenting that the news media gives it too much attention. In another rally, he baselessly said that U.S. doctors record more deaths from covid-19, the disease the coronavirus causes, than other nations because they get more money.
"I mean our doctors are very smart people. So what they do is they say, ’I’m sorry but everybody dies of covid,’ " Trump said Friday at a rally in Waterford Township, Mich., without offering any evidence.
By contrast, former vice president Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala D. Harris have consistently worn masks in public, and have held socially distanced events. When two people around Harris tested positive for the coronavirus in October, she canceled travel for several days. Asked about the difference between their approaches, Fauci said Biden’s campaign "is taking it seriously from a public health perspective." Trump, Fauci said, is "looking at it from a different perspective." He said that perspective was "the economy and reopening the country."
Fauci, who once took a starring role in the response and briefed the president almost every day as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, described a disjointed response as cases surge. Several current and former senior administration officials said the White House is almost entirely focused on a vaccine, even though experts warn it is unlikely to be a silver bullet that ends the pandemic immediately since it will take months under the best of circumstances to inoculate tens of millions of people to achieve herd immunity.

White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement that Dr. Fauci's comments were "unacceptable".
"It’s unacceptable and breaking with all norms for Dr. Fauci, a senior member of the President’s Coronavirus Taskforce and someone who has praised President Trump’s actions throughout this pandemic, to choose three days before an election to play politics," White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement.
Deere added that Fauci was "choosing to criticize the president in the media and make his political leanings known by praising the president’s opponent — exactly what the American people have come to expect from The Swamp.
" Dr. Fauci has praised Joe Biden's campaign for allowing its candidate to sit in the basement, while claiming President Trump is tackling the outbreak from a different perspective, one focused on "the economy".
Additionally, "Dr. Fauci may have just admitted that he is afraid the cure will be worse than the disease and that unlike the president he has no confidence in the American people to make the best choice for themselves armed with CDC best practices," Deere said.

I have "real problems" with Dr. Fauci. In the beginning of this mess he discouraging the wearing of masks by the general public since he knew there would be a severe shortage of masks at that time. Dishonest! He was in a prime position to anticipate that problem -- since pandemics have been predicted for many years now -- by advocating a massive increase in warehoused PPE by the federal govt. That never happened because the people like Fauci did nothing.
In addition he discouraged using HCQ at a time when little was known about it. His position got massive media coverage months ago. The next day during a live interview with a talk show host, Fauci admitted that if he would use HCQ to prevent a severe case of COVID-19 since at the time doctors had nothing else to offer. This Fauci contraction got zero coverage by the media, and has apparently been disappeared.

Viruses are very small. If you can smell odors (which you can through most masks) — like tobacco smoke, perfume, etc., the COVID-19 virus can pass through that mask.
You cannot stop or a eliminate the COVID-19 virus with quarantine-type practices and orders. A virus with such high viral loads (titers), recalcitrant environmental persistence, and transmissibility factors can’t be stopped with public health and welfare environmental management. IMO, inevitably ALL of the USA population will contract COVID-19 at some point (however this is less and less of a concern, since the ORF8 is deleting from viral strains — https://doi.org/10.1016/j.meegid.2020.104525).
The only real choice ever was to slow the curve enough so as to buy the time needed to stand up resources.
To buy the time necessary to stand up resources, the FDA, CDC, NIH, etc., and their dead-enders (like “the Fauch”) served a very critical and useful purpose that has now been outlived.

Thankfully, the COVID-19 virus is non-lethal to the great majority of otherwise healthy people infected. Exceptions to this general rule would be presence of ORF8 (immune evasive) COVID-19 viral strains, or co-infections with influenza. For the general populace, the greater of these two concerns will be influenza--since no research has been done about how an influenza vaccine program is unlikely to be sufficiently protective under the circumstances, and that any influenza vaccine will likely also promote the same kind of ACE2 proliferation that makes a co-infection with the COVID-19 virus so dangerous.
It would be ironic, wouldn’t it, to have a nationwide influenza vaccination program create the very ACE2 proliferation conditions the vaccination program is supposed to prevent (all in the name of COVID-19 and “save the children“—TM)?

So why aren't they super-spreader events? I've only seen one claim of such from a media that would love to make such claims. Even the lefty media knows it won't fly without charts showing the spikes and those haven't happened in any correlation to Trump events.

Many states require your party affiliation so you vote in the right primary. If you early vote or request a ballot they know your affiliation and can assume you are voting for your party. That means Republicans did a lot of early voting. Now if you poll the Democrats who actually returned a ballot you can get a guesstimate on the actual voting (not just what they are registered as). I assume those guesstimates are interesting.

Florida is already counting mail in ballots as they did in 2016 and will likely be one of the first States to announce results. Polls close there at 7 ET in most of the State and 8 pm ET in the west panhandle. I think that in 2016 they announced Trump as the winner by about 9pm. Of course that year the mail in vote was about half of what it is this year.

Joe was never ahead in Florida. The polls were lies. Now that the one and only opportunity to measure polls against data is coming up, they are being adjusted closer to reality, and afterward the pollsters will brag about how accurate they were.

The only reliable pollster is Trafgar Grouo, which corrects for the biases suffered by the other pollsters (nonresponse, inaccurate weighting, bad sampling etc).
Trafalgar has Trump winning Ohio easily and up by a clear, though narrow, margin in every one of the other battlegrounds: up by ~3 in MI, NC, FL, and AZ.
If Trump wins PA and FL and OH, and takes either AZ or NC, then he only needs one more midwestern battleground state -- MI or WI or MN -- to win with high-270s EC votes.

The problem with reparations is the need to compare it to something. It would appear the only fair comparison would be to sub-Saharan Africa. Some genetic testing should point to a region of origin and you can base off that dynamic.
Then you would utilize the annual income, living conditions including but not limited to housing, potable water, sewage treatment, functioning utilities, medical availability and degree of civil rest/unrest. Then you have to look at life span.
After you figure out how the comparable African lives, you either add or deduct from a baseline score. Short story long, even liberal back of the napkin ciphering would strongly suggest that any foray into reparations is going to put that segment of the population back into bondage for a gargantuan bill.
While I cannot support Reparations for something that CEASE to exist in American 155 years ago.
MAYBE Offering a put or shut compromise.
* 1 way airfare ticket to their DNA verified Ancestral Homeland.
* Give a 1 time 1 year average income for that DNA verified country.

Police departments are likely to collect intelligence on social media, cancel days off and prepare tactical response teams ahead of possible Election Day unrest.
A New York-based police union official likened the city’s level of preparedness to the days following 9/11 and said “This is not something to take lightly right now.”
Two union officials told the Daily Caller News Foundation that officers should apprehend instigators quickly in the event that riots break out as the election nears.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) on Oct. 24 told businesses within the boroughs to prepare for possible political violence, The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 24. The department has reportedly been preparing for weeks to keep the city secure in the event of election-induced calamity.
Miami, Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Orlando, Chicago and other major cities have also reported prepping for possible violence, according to Fox News.
Slocumb also indicated that law enforcement agencies can establish arrangements with surrounding departments, known as mutual aid, to establish contingency plans if more officers are needed to supplement a certain city’s police force. Those same authorities are likely to begin talks with local trauma centers and their respective fire departments, he said.
The union official, however, insisted that the department’s response is contingent on the “marching orders” given by Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration. Vallelong said previous decisions by de Blasio during earlier racial justice riots proved to be ineffective.
“I know what should be done, but it’s gonna be a matter of what are the marching orders that are going to be given from city hall when all of this happens,” he said. “We know from the past with watching what we saw — they let everybody run loose and pretty much destroy everything in the city.”
Vallelong also said the NYPD is struggling with a lack of officers, as the department experienced a 75% surge in retirements compared to 2019, according to Newsday.
Additionally, Yonkers, Westchester, and other New York agencies pledged to refuse to enter the city following a police reform bill that banned chokeholds and other methods of restraints, NBC New York reported.
“If it gets that bad and the NYPD can’t handle it, I don’t know of a bigger police department out there that could come and save them,” Vallelong said. “At that point you’re talking about the National Guard.”

Thank G_d, pursuant to common law (as recognized in both federal and state laws), that the Sheriffs all across the USA only answer to the PEOPLE who elected them, and do not have to kowtow to any state official, including governors, and are coequal in authority with federal agencies — superseding the federal agencies in the areas of their (typically county) local jurisdiction. I hope they are all locked and loaded.
