Searching Door-to-Door For Illegals
Sheriffs (sic) in Phoenix, Ariz., have launched an aggressive crackdown on illegal aliens as part of a growing movement by local officials to help prevent illegal immigration.

Maricopa County sheriffs (sic) have instituted a zero tolerance policy — knocking on doors and arresting those suspected of living in the country illegally.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said the law is clear cut. “Our policy is if we come across any illegal ... you are arrested. You don’t get a ticket. You get to appear before a judge later on.”

FEAR & LOATHING IN DENVER (more Dem convention follies)

So much for having a good time at the Democratic National Convention.

The party's Denver confab has adopted a regimen of political correctness of the sort not seen since George McGovern was boycotting grapes.

Organizers have laid down strict rules, The Wall Street Journal reports, aimed at producing the "greenest convention in the history of the planet."

They include:

* No fried foods. Whatsoever.

* All meals must include "at least three of the following colors: red, green, yellow, blue/purple and white."
Sounds like a display of chemical and incendiary weapons dispensers.

* At least 70 percent of all food must be organic and grown locally. Lots of luck with those Rocky Mountain mangoes and bananas.

And organizers have recruited 900 recycling enforcers to ensure that every scrap of trash goes into the proper bin.
The trash gestapo. We are through the looking glass and into cloud-cuckoo land.

And to make sure that any balloons used are biodegradable, the convention's director of greening (no kidding) has been burying samples in a compost heap.
For the love of God....

But full compliance is proving difficult. For example, a demand that the 15,000 fanny packs to be distributed to volunteers all be made in the US of organic cotton by union labor turns out to be impossible: Such things don't exist.

Here's an idea. Why not do the whole thing over the Internet?

No color coordination required.

#5  You know...I get the nasty premonition that there will be food poisoning at their convention. I would laugh, but having had food poisoning, it's horrible. And my case was mild.

But the risks with organic foods are FAR higher than normal food.

Organic food is also bad for the environment. It uses more land, more fresh water, and the use of natural fertilizers, ie dung, means increased risk of food poisoning.

So like all things leftist, it's actually bad for you and bad for the planet and can kill you. Why, that makes it perfect!

#6  You know what I want?

A cut of the concession money the hot dog cart vendors in Denver are going to make.

THey wil make BANK when they wheel over to the west end of downtown, and feed the crowds that dont want that crap the government vendors are serving at the convention center.

Polish Sausage, Brats and plain ol hodtdog, with a cold soda pop, and a bag of chips. Going to sell tons of them.

#8  Restricting fried foods because they are "fattening" is really stupid. There is no such thing as "fattening" foods. It all depends on how much you eat - how many calories you consume.
What's next - food police to enforce a daily caloric intake maximum? "I'm sorry, Senator Kennedy, but you've already consumed your daily limit of calories. You may not have a second piece of (organically grown, locally produced) cake". Yeah, right.

#10  It is one thing to hold those values and live by them, it is something quite different to shove them down someone's throat and prevent them from doing anything else. Is a person really all that pious if they eat all organic but the only reason is because anything else was outlawed by the organizers? And what would happen to someone who sneaks in a large Domino's pepperoni with a 12-pack of Stella? Would they be "excommunicated" from the party?

What a load of patronizing crap. If the Republicans ever tried to treat their members in such a condescending way, they would lose have the party. Democrats are such sheep.

They always go like hotcakes as they say.

The Looper and Ritter don't have a clue about anything related to this convention. How sad is that. To be focusing so much on this food instead of all the other security issues for example is just insane.

Satanist Democrat Couple Arrested
A Durham couple charged with kidnapping, rape and assault was involved with a satanic cult, a prosecutor said Monday. Joy Johnson and Joseph Craig appeared at a bond hearing Monday. A judge set Craig's bond at $590,000, but refused a prosecution request to increase Johnson's bond from $270,000 to $500,000.

Prosecutors said Craig's victims met him through a shared interest in Satan worship. They alleged Craig shackled his victims to beds, kept them in dog cages and starved them inside his Albany Street home. He was charged with beating one victim with a cane and a cord and with raping a woman.

Johnson, who was third vice-chair of the Durham County Democratic Party and vice-chair for the Young Democrats, was charged with two counts of aiding and abetting. Prosecutors said she knew her husband planned the crime and watched as they were committed.

She has resigned her positions with the Democratic Party, said state Sen. Floyd McKissick, D-Durham.

Craig and Johnson were ordered to have no contact with their victims. Prosecutors said they anticipate more charges will be filed against the couple.
Technically, should that be 'Democrat Satanist', 'Satanic Democrat', or 'Democrat and Satanist'?
Um, let's not get too nasty here. There are any number of good Democrats in this country, and I'm sure that when they read this story they, like us, will be shaking their heads.

Idiot of the Day submission : Manure thief falls into dung, flees naked
BERLIN (Rooters) A woman trying to make "manure bombs" using stockings, slipped into a slurry tank and fled the scene naked, German police said Friday.

Two women entered a farm in the northern village of Eberholzen Wednesday evening and started to fill the stockings with manure.

"One of them slipped into the manure tank, right into the cow muck," said a spokesman for local police. "The other one helped her out. We found their clothes in a field. One seems to have run off completely naked, the other in her underwear, and both of them all covered in...."

Police said it was unclear what the women had intended to do with the "manure bombs," but added the incident could be linked to victory celebrations surrounding the Euro 2008 semi-finals on Wednesday evening, when Germany beat Turkey 3-2.

"The women can get their clothes back from the local police station -- unwashed," the spokesman added.
"And hurry up to get them back, please!!!"

Norway: Father jailed for forcing daughter to marry
A 50-year-old man who immigrated to Norway from Iraq has been sentenced to four years in jail, after he was convicted of forcing his daughter to marry a cousin back in northern Iraq in 2004.

The man had been indicted under Norway's laws against forced marriages (tvangsgift) and also for kidnapping his daughter and taking her back to northern Iraq in 2005.

Forcing anyone to marry is punishable by up to six years in prison in Norway. The sentence handed down Monday is the harshest recorded so far.

The defendant's daughter, now age 20, testified in court about being subjected to violence and threats. Her father allegedly threatened to kill her if she refused to marry her cousin.
SOP in the RoP. And they aren't idle threats, either.
When her family made plans to travel back to northern Iraq for "holiday," the daughter contacted Norwegian authorities. She said she feared her father would leave her in Iraq. She did return to Norway after that trip, only to disappear a few months later. She was finally found in northern Iraq earlier this year, taken to a safe place and eventually brought back to Norway.
"found" hmmm ...
Her father's defense attorney claims the marriage between his daughter and her cousin was voluntary. "This is very difficult, both for himself and his family," attorney Dagfinn Hodt told news bureau NTB.
Pop has to cough up the dowry dough, I'd guess.

'Quagmire' Newspapers, reeling from slumping ads, slash jobs
Deep job cuts, outsourcing and more asset sales coming as the newspaper industry retrenches
Could this be caused by Global Warming/Climate Change?
NEW YORK (AP) -- Even for an industry awash in bad news, the newspaper business went through one of its most severe retrenchments in recent memory last week. Half a dozen newspapers said they would slash payrolls, one said it would outsource all its printing, and Tribune Co., one of the biggest publishers in the country, said it might sell its iconic headquarters tower in Chicago and the building that houses the Los Angeles Times.

The increasingly rapid and broad decline in the newspaper business in recent months has surprised even the most pessimistic financial analysts, many of whom say it's too hard to tell how far the slump will go.

'They're in survival mode now,' said Mike Simonton, a media analyst at Fitch Ratings, a credit analysis agency. 'We had very grim expectations for the sector,' Simonton said, and publishers have either met or surpassed his estimates for how bad the results would be.

Last week alone, deep staff cuts were announced at The Hartford Courant and The (Baltimore) Sun -- two Tribune papers -- as well as at The Palm Beach Post and the Daytona Beach-Journal, while The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press said they hoped to reduce the head count in their joint operations by 7 percent through buyouts. The Boston Herald said up to 160 employees would be laid off as it outsourced its printing operations, and in a memo explaining the terms of its job security pledge, the Star-Ledger in Newark, N.J., said it is operating in the red. The week before, McClatchy Co. said companywide staff cuts of 10 percent were coming.

Tribune, meanwhile, told its employees Wednesday that it hoped to wring more value out of its 'underutilized' real estate in Chicago and Los Angeles, extending an asset-selling program Tribune is pursuing to service a $13 billion debt load, much of which it took on from going private. Tribune has already reached a deal to sell one of its largest newspapers, Long Island-based Newsday, but ran into delays early this month in liquidating Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play, when negotiations for the field's purchase by a state agency broke down over financing. Tribune is also moving to sell the Cubs.
They're getting the taxpayers to buy Wrigley just as the taxpayers got sucked into buying and paying for Comiskey. Some things never change ...
Tribune has enough money to meet its debt requirements this year, bond analysts have said, but it must make headway on asset sales in order to meet its obligations in 2009.

Tribune's troubles reflect broader problems in the industry, where a deepening economic downturn is worsening losses from a long-term shift away from print advertising toward online, especially in classified categories like help wanted, autos and real estate, where rivals such as Craigslist, Move.com and AutoTrader.com are thriving.

Advertising is by far the most important source of revenue for newspapers. And in the first quarter, their overall ad revenue slumped 12.9 percent, led by a 24.9 percent drop-off in classifieds, compared with the same period a year earlier. In fact, the industry group that compiles and releases ad revenue figures, the Newspaper Association of America, this month stopped putting out quarterly press releases with the numbers, though it quietly updated them on its Web site.

NAA spokeswoman Sheila Owens said in an e-mailed statement that the organization will now put out press releases only with full-year data 'to keep the market focused on the longer-term industry transition from print to a multiplatform medium.'

Some say complacency in the industry about the threat the Internet posed is to blame for the current quagmire.
Quagmire, re-deploy to Okinawa.
Speaking on the CNBC business news cable channel Friday, Sam Zell, the real estate magnate who is now Tribune's CEO, said newspapers have historically been 'monopolies' in their local markets and 'insulated from reality,' according to a transcript of his remarks provided by CNBC.

Going forward, if ad revenues continue to slide rapidly, companies including Journal Register Co., MediaNews Group Inc. and -- in the absence of further asset sales -- Tribune could then risk violating their loan terms, said Emile Courtney, a media industry credit analyst for Standard & Poor's. Already, just two major publishers have investment-grade debt under S&P's ratings -- Gannett Co. and The New York Times Co. The industry is divided between them and 'everybody else,' Courtney said.

Given the current poor climate for the business, he said: 'I have doubts banks will be as willing as they were in the past to waive or amend covenants.'

Russian supermodel plunges to her death from Manhattan apartment
Ruslana Korshunova, a 20 year-old Russian supermodel, plummets to her death in an apparent suicide, from her ninth floor apartment in lower Manhattan.
I saw this movie. It had Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Gibson was really good.
Truly heart-breaking news, the long-haired beauty, Ruslana Korshunova, 20, apparently jumped to her death into the middle of busy Water St. in the Financial District around 2:30 p.m. The witnesses to the apparent suicide saw the barefoot woman, dressed in blue jeans and a purple tank top, and noticed her beauty immediately, although they did not realize at the time she was a world-famous model.

-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
Today in History: the Tunguska Event
The Tunguska event, sometimes referred to as the Tunguska explosion, was a massive explosion that occurred near the Podkamennaya (Under Rock) Tunguska River in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai of Russia, between 7:00 and 8:00 AM on June 30, 1908.

The explosion was most likely caused by the airburst of a large (around 20 m (66 ft) across) meteoroid or comet fragment at an altitude of 5 to 10 kilometers (3–6 mi) above the Earth's surface. . . . The energy of the blast was estimated to be between 10 and 20 megatons of TNT, 1,000 times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, or equivalent to Castle Bravo, the most powerful nuclear bomb ever detonated by the US. . . .

#1  Bad time to be flying around over there. Sudan Tribune...

A MIG-29 fighter Jet was shot down killing its Russian pilot during the Darfur rebel assault on the Sudanese capital earlier this month, a Russian radio station said today. The independent Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy quoted a man by the name of Vladimir as saying that a colleague of his in Sudan told him that “a flight instructor flying a MIG-29 was shot down from a large-caliber machine-gun during this fighting [Darfur rebel attack]”.

Vladimir said the slain pilot was a flight instructor training the Sudanese pilots on flying the MIG-29 fighter jets. In 2004 Khartoum said that Moscow supplied them with a dozen MIG-29’s.

The Ekho Moskvy radio also quoted Vladimir as saying that the flight instructor managed to eject after his plane was shot by JEM rebels “but the parachute failed to open and the pilot died”. Vladimir did not provide the pilot’s name but said that “he was from the Ryazan higher military academy”.

The radio station also contacted the Russian Defense Ministry which denied the report and quoted its spokesman as saying that “if something like this had happened we would have received relevant documents. If we don’t have them, nothing has happened”. The defense ministry also said they have no intention of checking on the report of the MIG-29 fighter in Sudan or the fate of its pilot.

Bangladesh
Cloth trader accuses Rab of 'putting him in crossfire'
A cloth trader undergoing treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after being injured with bullet wounds alleged that Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel attempted to kill him by 'putting him in crossfire'.

Rab-10 officials however said Mohammad Babul is a listed criminal who was injured with the bullet wounds in a gunfight between his accomplices and Rab while early on Friday he was being transported for showing the elite battalion a spot from where they would be able to recover illegal firearms.

Rab alleged that Babul is one of the members of a muggers' gang which snatched Tk 24 lakh from three businessmen in Lalbagh of the capital a couple of months ago.

Hailing from Aganagar in South Keraniganj Babul told The Daily Star on Saturday night, 'Rab men arrested me from Keraniganj on Wednesday and took me to Dhalpur camp of Rab-10.' 'Although I was not involved in the Tk 24 lakh snatching in Lalbagh, the Rab men tortured me to extract a false confession,' he said adding, 'As I refused to give a false confession, they blindfolded me and took me to an unknown place to put me in a crossfire.'

'After we reached the destination, the Rab men started beating me again and stamped on me with boots on, then they fired two shots into my right knee trying to make me confess,' Babul went on adding, 'Although while we were going to the spot in a Rab vehicle they threatened to kill me in a crossfire if I wouldn't confess, after we reached the spot and I was lying down on a field there, they told me that they would shoot into my leg instead.'

The Rab personnel also fired several blank shots and shouted out mock cries of pursuing a fleeing criminal, Babul claimed.

He however admitted to The Daily Star that there are some cases against him filed with Kotwali police accusing him of cheating his clients.

Flt Lt Mostofa Humayun Kabir, who is in charge of the media wing of Rab-10, told The Daily Star, 'Babul is a listed armed criminal and accused in a case for snatching Tk 24 lakh two months ago.'

'Babul was being transported to recover firearms as he had admitted to having knowledge of them, and during the operation at the Lalbagh dam, his accomplices fired at Rab men, prompting Rab personnel to retaliate with gunshots leading to a gun battle. At one stage, Babul was hit by bullets while his accomplices fled the scene.'

Later, Lalbagh police rushed Babul to Mitford Hospital from the spot.

Nobo Jyoti Khisa, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalbagh police station, said Babul is a veteran criminal and police rushed to the spot hearing gun shots.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia charges gang with 20 racist murders
MOSCOW (Rooters) - Russian prosecutors said on Monday they had charged a gang led by two teenagers of murdering 20 people in a series of racist killings over eight months.
Signs of the times, plus... collateral damages from the neofascism of some sort of putin, with its "black" (caucasians) and western scapegoats?
Prosecutors said they had brought charges against nine people aged between 17 and 22, including a young woman, aged 22, who recorded one attack.

"She videotaped the first crime committed by the group. The wounded person survived at the time," Vladimir Markin, spokesman for Russia's Investigative Committee at the Prosecutor General's office, said in a statement.

"Lone citizens of non-Slavic appearance were chosen as victims. The assailants attempted to inflict grievous bodily harm within the shortest possible period of time."

"Investigators ... accuse the members of the group of 20 cases of murder and 12 attempted murders," said Markin. The accused have not yet been tried.

The statement described the gang as skinheads, a term commonly used in Russia to describe young, far-right extremists who often have shaven heads and wear Nazi-style insignia.
Which is pretty funny, almost as much as french neo-nazis, when you know what nazis thought of both russians and french...
The 32 attacks were inspired by "racial and national hatred" and took place over eight months, starting last August, Markin said. The two leaders of the group were under 16 years of age when committing the crimes.

Russian sociologists are struggling to understand the phenomenon of rising neo-Nazism and xenophobia in a country which lost millions of its citizens fighting against Nazi Germany during World War Two.
Could that be that putin is propping up himself through nationalism, just like milosevic did?
Nowadays swastika graffiti can be seen across Russia, and Jewish cemeteries and synagogues are occasionally vandalized.

A group of prominent Russian anti-fascists asked the authorities in April to investigate the appearance of their personal data on a far-right Internet site listing them among "Enemies of the Russian People".

Birthday party snub sparks human rights complaint to Swedish parliament
An eight-year-old boy has sparked an unlikely outcry in Sweden after failing to invite two of his classmates to his birthday party. The boy's school says he has violated the children's rights and has complained to the Swedish Parliament. The school, in Lund, southern Sweden, argues that if invitations are handed out on school premises then it must ensure there is no discrimination.

The boy's father has lodged a complaint with the parliamentary ombudsman. He says the two children were left out because one did not invite his son to his own party and he had fallen out with the other one.

The boy handed out his birthday invitations during class-time and when the teacher spotted that two children had not received one the invitations were confiscated.

'My son has taken it pretty hard,' the boy's father told the newspaper Sydsvenskan. 'No one has the right to confiscate someone's property in this way, it's like taking someone's post,' he added.
This is Sweden, pal ...
A verdict on the matter is likely to be reached in September, in time for the next school year.

I even remember inviting one girl among all the boys to my first grade b-party and how happy I was when she made it. Also, how a bunch of other cuties got friendly after they heard she went...
If everybody came it wouldn't have been special and I wouldn't remember it.

Kids did similar things but the wife modified their lists a bit too much....

Still - a b-day party with your whole class is not a b-day party it is a class party you subsidize.

India-Pakistan
UK alleges misuse of aid given to Pakistan for polio vaccines
Britain has protested over what it calls misuse by the finance ministry of the £15 million assistance for procuring polio vaccine, according to sources in the British High Commission.

The issue is likely to affect another £280 million British aid Pakistan expects to get under the National Health Facility Part-II for the next three years. British Secretary of State for International Development Douglas Alexander, the sources claimed, would raise this issue with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, during a meeting with him here on Thursday.

Britain’s Department of International Development had provided the assistance in response to Pakistan’s request to international donors in February.

Pakistan had told donors that it had run out of funds for purchasing vaccines and the situation had become so grave that there was a serious threat of discontinuation of the polio campaign across the country. The country needs 100 million doses a year to vaccinate 35 million children. This year, because of wild-eyed kooks resource constraints, the government bought only 20 million doses and the health ministry had to turn to donors for the remaining 80 million doses.

Britain responded to the emergency request and provided the aid with conditions that it should be used only for polio vaccine procurement and the entire amount should be spent by June 30.

The Planning Commission directed the health ministry to purchase the vaccine and asked the finance ministry to release the amount to the health ministry. After buying the vaccine, the health ministry approached the finance ministry, but it was told that the funds had been used for the ‘balance of budget’.

Shocked to learn that its assistance had been misused, the British Department for International Development wrote a letter to Finance Secretary Farrukh Qayyum, asking him to ensure that the amount was used for the intended purpose. “The amount (£15 million) was transferred to the government of Pakistan in March 2008 on the understanding that these funds would be used in the FY 2007-08.

“The Ministry of Health has completed the vaccine procurement process and polio vaccine is now available for National Immunisation days. However, we are surprised that no funds have been released to the Ministry of Health for payment to the vaccine suppliers to date,” the letter said. The letter further stated: “We are concerned that this delay in payment could impact negatively on future vaccine procurement, and that postponement of payment until July could reduce the funds available for vaccine purchase in the next financial year.”

The Economic Affairs Division, which coordinates all international funding, has also urged the finance ministry to promptly address the issue.

Pakistan’s fight against the crippling disease is already faltering primarily because of poor governance and lack of accountability and 15 polio cases have already been reported ahead of the peak transmission season during the later part of the year.
No statement at all about how the polio vaccine is a plot to sterilize the men-folk, but that's the real reason why the money was diverted ...
Some see Pakistan to be lagging behind even the war-torn Afghanistan that has reported fewer cases so far this year.

Pakistani among three arrested in Cambodia
A Briton, a Pakistani and a Taiwanese-American, have been arrested in Cambodia for trying to smuggle 750 grammes of drugs out of the country, police said on Sunday. Steven Bushel, Sha Hihan and Victor Chhan were arrested on Friday in a hotel room where they were discovered with 450 grammes of crystal amphetamines known as “ice” and 300 grammes of a white powder used to produce the drug, anti-drug police investigator Chea Leng told AFP. “We had been monitoring them for almost three months and we knew that they were trying to smuggle the drug out of Cambodia,” he said. Police were still trying to learn where the suspects were smuggling the drugs, he said. The three men were being held at the Interior Ministry’s anti-drug unit to await trial, he added.

Home Front: Culture Wars
Crack dealing illegals get free trip home on SF taxpayers

Suggest some of you folks get out your blood pressure medication...
San Francisco juvenile probation officials - citing the city's immigrant sanctuary status - are protecting Honduran youths caught dealing crack cocaine from possible federal deportation and have given some offenders a city-paid flight home with carte blanche to return.

The city's practices recently prompted a federal criminal investigation into whether San Francisco has been systematically circumventing U.S. immigration law, according to officials with knowledge of the matter. City officials say they are trying to balance their obligations under federal and state law with local court orders and San Francisco's policies aimed at protecting the rights of the young immigrants, who they say are often victims of exploitation.

Federal authorities counter that drug kingpins are indeed exploiting the immigrants, but that the city's stance allows them to get away with "gaming the system."

San Francisco juvenile authorities have been grappling for several years with an influx of young Honduran immigrants dealing crack in the Mission District and Tenderloin. Those who are arrested routinely say they are minors, but police suspect that many are actually adults, living communally in Oakland and other cities at the behest of drug traffickers who claim to be their relatives. Nonetheless, city authorities have typically accepted the suspects' stories and handled the cases in Juvenile Court, where proceedings are often shielded from public scrutiny.

Barred by state law from sending drug offenders to the California Youth Authority and bound by a 1989 city law defining San Francisco as a sanctuary city for immigrants - meaning officials do not cooperate with federal immigration investigations - juvenile officials settled on an unorthodox strategy. Rather than have the drug offenders deported, they have recommended that Juvenile Court judges and commissioners approve city-paid flights home to Honduras for the offenders with the aim of reuniting them with their families.
Mamacita! I'm home!
The practice, federal authorities say, does nothing to prevent offenders from coming back, while federal deportation legally bars them from ever returning. Federal officials also say U.S. law prohibits helping an illegal immigrant to cross the border, even if it is to return home.

Federal officials recently detained a San Francisco juvenile probation officer at the Houston airport, where he was accompanying two Honduran juvenile drug offenders about to board a flight to Tegucigalpa. They questioned him for several hours before letting him go, and seized the youths and deported them.

"Our job is to uphold the nation's immigration laws," said Greg Palmore, spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). "Although San Francisco is a sanctuary city, it's a problem whenever someone attempts to evade the law. ... Our law does not allow us to turn a blind eye to any individual who has come into this country illegally."

Joseph Russoniello, the U.S. attorney in charge of the San Francisco area, said he was "flabbergasted that the taxpayers' money was being spent for the purpose of ferrying detainees home. You have to have a perfect storm of dumb moves to have it happen."
Forget it, Jake. It's San Francisco...
William Siffermann, chief of San Francisco's Juvenile Probation Department, said federal agents have never specifically told his office not to send immigrants back to their home countries, but that he has stopped the practice until differences between the city and immigration authorities are resolved.
...and because they got caught violating a federal law.
He said the city's stance is that it does not have to report illegal immigrant minors to the federal government, even if they are found in Juvenile Court to have committed a crime. "We are not obligated to," he said. "We are abiding by the sanctuary city ordinance." Siffermann added, "I don't believe we've done anything wrong." But he stressed that his office wants to make sure it is fulfilling its duties "in all arenas, with federal statutes, state statutes and the sanctuary city law."
Uh-huh...
San Francisco police doubt that many of the young Hondurans they arrest on drug charges are even juveniles. Police can report suspected adult illegal immigrants to federal authorities if they commit a crime, said Capt. Tim Hettrich, until recently the head of the narcotics unit. So immigrant drug dealers "pass themselves off as juveniles, with a three-day growth of beard and everything else. It's frustrating," he said. "Some of them have been arrested four or five times," Hettrich said. "That is one of the big problems with being a city of sanctuary."
Why does San Franciso even have cops?
He scoffed at San Francisco's strategy of returning the offenders to their home country. "They probably get the round trip and the next day, they will be right back here," Hettrich said.

Patricia Lee, head of the San Francisco public defender's juvenile branch, would not comment on pending cases. But, she said, "a lot of the young people have suffered a lot of abuse, abandonment and neglect in their native country and have been used as (drug-running) mules. There is lot of victimization and trafficking of these young people."
Manolo! Ship my violin to Patricia! Next day air!
Russoniello said the drug dealers are being sent here as part of an effort that takes advantage of San Francisco's leniency."What we're facing is a number of people gaming the system," he said. "Sooner or later the city will realize the advantage to cooperating (with federal authorities), whether it's the threat of criminal prosecution ... or some other method." Russoniello would not confirm or deny the existence of a federal investigation, but juvenile probation officers connected to the case have been interviewed by federal agents about the flights.

City officials will not say how many juvenile drug offenders have been flown out of the country in recent years or how much the city has spent on the effort.

Federal immigration authorities stumbled on to the effort when they caught several illegal immigrants in December at the airport in Houston, along with a San Francisco juvenile probation officer. The officer was on hand to make sure the immigrants boarded a plane to Tegucigalpa.
So long, boys. Hurry back.
Federal authorities say they met with Siffermann and told him that any juvenile offender had to be handed over to immigration officials after completing his sentence. The Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency sent a letter to Siffermann on Dec. 17 stressing that it would soon "like to begin receiving referrals" about immigrant juveniles in custody in the city."The red flag was flown," Russoniello said

Siffermann, however, said federal authorities were not exactly clear about what the city could and could not do related to the flights or the status of immigrants held in juvenile cases. "They did a little friendly stop-by," Siffermann said. "They said, 'This is something we would like you to cooperate on.' ... They said, 'Hey, look, this could be contrary to federal law, you might be in violation.' "

Meanwhile, the flights continued. On May 15, two more illegal immigrants from Honduras were arrested in Houston, again accompanied by a San Francisco juvenile probation officer. Federal immigration authorities held the officer for more than three hours before releasing him.

Six days later, there was another meeting, Siffermann said. This time it was with a representative of Russoniello's office. After that, Siffermann put the flights on hold. "We will look for other (approaches) for them," he said.

Siffermann stressed that the city ships out juvenile offenders to their home countries only after all other rehabilitative efforts have failed, including probation, foster care and juvenile detention. The strategy is appropriate, Siffermann said, because deporting young offenders would doom them from ever becoming productive residents of the United States.
Just selling the crack Americans aren't willing to sell.
"It might prevent them from obtaining citizenship," he said, denying them a chance to "take a different course."
There's no such thing as a bad boy...
In a statement released by the city attorney's office, which is advising the city on the issue, spokesman Matt Dorsey said, "We've been in ongoing contact with the U.S. attorney's office on this, and we've informed them of our intention to address these issues in court proceedings. We're looking at the legal issues carefully and methodically," Dorsey's statement said, "and we're in the process of advising our client, the Juvenile Probation Department." He said his office was not aware of the practice of flying juveniles back to Honduras.
What? Huh? Who? Where?
A recent count showed 22 of the 125 minors in custody at juvenile hall were immigrants and had no legal guardians in the United States, Siffermann said. He said his office is trying to figure out what to do with them now that flights are no longer an option. Russoniello said the city has no choice but to comply with U.S. law and turn the youths over to federal authorities. "The alternative, now that they are all on notice, is a period of prolonged darkness," he said.
Oh, no! Not "prolonged darkness"! Not that!
Judge Donna Hitchens, who oversees the city's Juvenile Court, said the original idea for flying youths home came from juvenile probation officials, and that it is up to them, not judges, to work out their differences with the federal government. "We are only the judicial branch," she said. "The issue is between the city and ICE."
Not my job. Man.

#1  Now, these SF loonies are the same kind of people who promote gun control as a way to lower the crime rate instead of actually controlling the criminals. Instead, they give free transportation to these "juveniles" who probably swallow a few balloons full of crack before they return. Kinda makes me wonder if Gavin Newsom gets a cut of the action.

Take them 150 miles or so off-shore and let them swim home. Just a thought.

#5  Here's the solution to Illegal immigration.

First offense: DNA, Fingerprints, photo's take, then you are deported.

Second offense: DNA/Fingerprints/Photo's show you were caught before, you get a needle jab and provide a nice fresh corpse for medical schools.
