Victoria's Secret busted for stealing brassiere design
Don Surber, guestblogging at Jules Crittenden's site

Reuters: “Woman claims Victoria’s Secret stole her bra.”

All I know about bras is that I cannot unfasten one.

Which is fine since I don’t wear them. . . .

#1  A company like Victoria Secrets makes to much cash to steal a design and deal with this bad publicity. They will have a papertrail showing who came up with the idea internally. the only problem is if the dates are really close giving reasonable doubt. If that happens I expect Victoria Secrets to open their checkbook and make the problem go away.

There will always be an Italy: Horse's head sent to councillor
Nice pic at the link. "Drop the gun or the horse gets it. Capiche?
(ANSA) - Ostuni, April 22 - A horse's head was delivered to a southern Italian official on Monday night, police said Tuesday.

An anonymous phone call told police to go to the engineering studio of the deputy mayor of this southern town. They found the head of the animal ''freshly cut off by expert hands''.

Police are inspecting local butchers' shops and have also started questioning people known to be linked to an illegal trade in butchered animals. According to police, the Mafia-style message sent to centre-left Deputy Mayor Vincenzo Pumes may be linked to his work as head of the town council's personnel office.

That guy is going to shoot a big nail in that poor beast's forehead; IIRC, italians actually eat more horse meat than french people (as a matter of fact, horse meat is pretty uncommon, nowadays, this was a pre-consumerist society type of meat), just as they actually eat more snails and more frog legs. Not 100% certain, but I think they beat us for all of them, despite the clichés.

Not so fast: My idiot can beat up your idiot
Click the link for a somewhat veiled picture of the guy. If he managed to get into 1500 girls' pants without a raincoat, I'll eat my hat. When they catch this freak, he will probably be regretting this for quite some time. Assuming he's American, of course.

'I infected 1500 girls with AIDS'

A SERIES of sickening videos have been posted on the internet showing a man who claims to have deliberately "infected" thousands of women with AIDS. Calling himself 'Trashman' and speaking with an American accent, the masked man says he has infected between 1200 and 1500 unknowing victims with the devastating disease.

He can be seen reading the names and ages of some of the women he claims to have had unprotected sex with in the video clips on website YouTube. The videos - one of which has been viewed 195,000 times - also feature a web address to a "gangsta" portal filled with pornography and where Trashman has a profile.

In the first video Trashman is filmed reading from a list of women he claims to have infected. He gloats: "Today I’m doing a show about something that’s more important than killing rappers.

"This here (piece of paper) that I hold in my hand is a list of women who I actually infected with AIDS on purpose.

"So if I call your name and if you just happen to be on my 'I got the AIDS from that n***er’ list', then God bless you."
Yeah, too many *s makes it take too long to figure it out.
He then goes on to name several women and their ages.

President of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Brett Hayhoe, said the man “does seem genuine” in the video clips.
Hayhoe? Perhaps we should set up a special thread just to snark on this.
He blasted: “It’s extremely disturbing (and) the guy needs psychiatric help.”
In the form of a short rope and a tall tree. But don't call it lynching or Al will sue your butt for using his patented word.
AIDS can only be contracted once a person has been infected with HIV, but Mr Hayhoe said the man may have lumped the two together. Mr Hayhoe said if Trashman was telling the truth, it would be "absolutely devastating" for anyone who has had sex with him. He added: "For someone to hear that on a YouTube video is just disgusting.

"To have your name yelled out would be shattering."

Google, the owner of YouTube, has not yet made a comment.

#1  Let's find the man and test him to determine if he really does have AIDS, first. If he's had sex with that many, no doubt some of them were carriers, too, which means his test results would show several variations of the virus. And then let's put him in treatment for his psychological problems -- either he's a dreadful liar, disconnected from reality, a pathological woman-hater, or a sex addict.

I don't suppose ruining a woman's reputation is the crime it once was, but no doubt the gentleman can then be prosecuted for something.

Today's Idiot, Semi-Finalist
Drunk Darth Vader Attacks Jedi Knight Reverend With A Crutch While Drunk

A man posing as Darth Vader attacked a Star Wars fan, who had founded a Jedi Church, a court has heard. Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, from Holyhead, Anglesey, admitted assaulting Barney Jones and cousin Michael with a metal crutch. They suffered minor injuries. Hughes, who was drunk and dressed in a black bin bag, shouted "Darth Vader!"

Earlier, when Hughes failed to arrive on time, District Judge Andrew Shaw issued an arrest warrant, adding: "I hope the force will soon be with him."

In the event, Hughes turned up and the case at Holyhead magistrates court resumed. The court heard he had jumped over a garden wall wearing the bin bag before the attack.

Outlining the case againt Hughes, prosectutor Nia Lloyd said Barney Jones had recently started the Jedi church in Holyhead - in honour of the Star Wars' good knights. It had about 30 members locally and "thousands worldwide". The cousins had been filming themselves playing with light sabres in the garden before the attack.

Hughes admitted two charges of common assault. The court heard he has a "chronic alcohol problem" and had drunk the best part of a 10 litre box of wine.

Mrs Lloyd said: "He was wearing a black bin bag and a cape and had a metal crutch in his hand."

Mrs Lloyd said he was shouting "Darth Vader".

She added that Hughes hit Barney Jones over the head with the crutch, leaving him with a headache. He then laughed and hit Michael Jones in the thigh, causing bruising. Both men were left upset by the incident and they believed it was pre-planned. She added that the pair believe "very strongly in the church and their religion".

Hughes could not remember the incident and only realised what had happened when he read about it in local newspapers, the court told.

Defending, Frances Jones said alcohol was "ruining his life" and he had no idea where he got the crutch from. The court head Hughes had previous convictions, including affray, assault and disorderly behaviour. The judge warned Hughes that jail remained a possibility before adjourning for pre-sentence reports until 13 May.

A quarrel, fight, or disturbance marked by very noisy, disorderly, and often violent behavior: brawl, broil, donnybrook, fray, free-for-all, melee, riot, row, ruction, tumult. Informal: fracas. Slang: rumble.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Robotic vigilante: Homemade 'Bum Bot' patrols in Atlanta
Cars passing O'Terrill's pub screech to a halt at the sight of a 300-pound, waist-high robot marked "SECURITY" rolling through downtown long after dark.

The regulars hardly glance outside. They've seen bar owner Rufus Terrill's invention on patrol before — its bright red lights and even brighter spot light blazing, infrared video camera filming and water cannon at the ready in the spinning turret on top.

"You're trespassing. That's private property," Terrill scolds an older man through the robot's loudspeaker. The man is sitting at the edge of the driveway to a child care center down the street. "Go on."

The man's hands go up and he shuffles into the shadows. Almost immediately, a group of men behind him scatters too.

The Bum Bot's reputation, it seems, has preceded it.

The electronic vigilante — on the beat since September — has enraged neighborhood activists, who have threatened protests. Street people say it's intimidating. And homeless advocates question the intentions of its inventor, who uses the Bum Bot as a marketing tool and a political prop.

Terrill, a 57-year-old ex-Marine, asserts his motives are pure: He says more police now patrol the area at night, the park across the street feels safer and he's had no break-ins since the cube-shaped robot, which Terrill controls with a wireless remote, has roamed the area. To Henrik Christensen, director of Georgia Tech's Robotics and Intelligent Machines Center, the Bum Bot exploits the kind of anxiety that underlies the Terminator movies.

"We have a Hollywood picture that they're going to run amok, kill people and do bad things. This Bum Bot plays on that stereotype," Christensen says. "For the rest of us who want to use technology to assist people in their daily lives, it's an obstacle."

Just north of downtown Atlanta, Terrill's bar is near luxury apartment complexes, condo towers and Terrill's home. But vagrants gather at a nearby homeless shelter. Break-ins and robberies are common. And used needles litter the grounds of the child care center, where Terrill sits on the board.

"They're out here to get money for drugs, to get money from breaking into cars," he says. "These are bad guys."

Terrill bought the bar four years ago, plowing his profit from selling an apartment complex into the smoky dive. He named it O'Terrill's, gave it an Irish theme and decorated it with knickknacks he and his wife, Linda, had lying around.

At first, he walked around, indoors and out, with an assault rifle on his shoulder to scare away vagrants, but police told him to put away the gun. Then he used a spotlight. But the bar was still being vandalized, and guns were stuck in his face several times.

His wife suggested he patrol a safer way — using a robot.

An environmental engineer by day, Terrill gathered the makings of his vigilante for three months. A three-wheel scooter gives the Bum Bot mobility. A home-alarm loudspeaker attached to a walkie-talkie gives it a voice. Its head is a former home meat-smoker. The red lights are from a 1997 Chevrolet, and it's powered by four car batteries.

The bar now welcomes patrons with a sign that says "Home of the Bum Bot," and Terrill has asked a regular to design a T-shirt with its image. He says he may use it for a campaign for Atlanta mayor he plans to announce this summer.

"He'll be my chief of staff. He'll be parked in front of my office," says Terrill, who finished fifth out of five in Georgia's 2006 Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.

The robot's shell is made of steel and plywood, covered in rubber gym mats painted black and nicked by rocks, bricks and other objects people Terrill was rousting have thrown at it. Terrill programmed the Bum Bot's bulky remote himself.

"It's just like a video game," he says.

Some nights, he even transmits the robot's video view to the bar's 60-inch TV so people indoors can watch. By day, it stands at attention near a pool table. Terrill says the Bum Bot is promoting public safety.

"There are children in our neighborhood that use that day care center," he says. "People are coming on private property, they're defecating, they're throwing crack needles, sometimes they're throwing crack rocks."

Some who live on the streets say Terrill's going too far.

"This is going to intimidate a lot of people," says Rosetta Watkins, who used to live in a nearby shelter and has worked for Terrill. "You're going to intimidate a lot more people than you're going to help."

Homeless advocates agree.
It's either agree or get a job. Which do you suppose they'll go for?
"It's a play for public attention for Rufus. He's certainly got a lot of attention — but not the kind we need for housing, living wages," says Anita Beaty, director of Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless. "This robot isn't casting attention to the deep, deep poverty in Atlanta."

Bulky as it is, the Bum Bot is surprisingly quiet. Terrill always stands about 10 feet behind it and follows a routine. First he turns on the red eyes, then the spotlight. Then he has the Bum Bot warn that it's videotaping the scene. Sometimes he has to call the police; usually people move on.

"I cleared out when I saw it," says Matthew Williams, a 23-year-old who lives in a nearby shelter. "People are starting to get used to it. People leave right when they see it."

Atlanta police spokeswoman Lisa Keyes says the department hasn't received any complaints about the Bum Bot but Terrill will risk charges if he intentionally sprays water on someone with the cannon or damages someone's property.

Terrill says he monitors only private property and never has blasted the cannon toward anyone. He also says he's employed 70 people from the streets and shelters since he opened the bar and helped 18 move into other full-time gigs.

Beaty is unconvinced of his motives.
I'll bet Beaty is a Dem.
"I'm appalled by the whole idea. It's a sham and a shame," says Beaty. "Rufus is using this for his 15 minutes."
Oh, the horror.
Christensen at Georgia Tech is particularly concerned that the robot is a temporary — if entertaining — solution when Terrill could be helping find a permanent answer to vagrancy.
There is no solution given present laws.
"He's moving the problem elsewhere," Christensen says. "And that works for him, but it's really not solving anything."
Yes, but he is helping to point the way to a solution, now isn't he? Unlike you, who I have learned nothing from.
Terrill, for his part, seems stubbornly dedicated to resurrecting his neighborhood — in his way. Each night, he and the Bum Bot chase the same vagrants from the child care center. And each night, the men typically return within a few hours.
Tried swapping that water cannon for a shotgun? ;-)
"This isn't fun," he sighs as he packs up around midnight. "I don't like being here every night. I'd be able to better run my business. But I have to spend all my time being the sheriff."

Voting in Murtha's District -- Opponent is an Iraqi Vet
David Freddoso from The Corner at National Review

Rep. Jack Murtha (D-Pa.) will have an opponent this year after all. A judge had kicked retired Lt. Col. William Russell (R), a veteran of both Iraq Wars, off the ballot earlier this year for lack of valid petition signatures.

A legal challenge had winnowed him down to just 993, whereas he needed 1,000 signatures. This gave Murtha a shot at an unopposed victory in the fall, as there were no other Republican challengers.

Russell did not give up, though. To qualify for the November ballot, he had to get at least 1,000 write-in votes in the district yesterday to qualify for the ballot. His consultants saw this as doable, but still a challenge in a primary where there was really nothing happening on the Republican side — not even a decent local race to attract voters to the polls.

Considering that Republican turnout was already going to be low, and only a small percentage of voters ever think to write in a name, you might think they'd be lucky to get just enough to qualify.

Well, think again. I'm told that the count now stands at 4,700 write-in votes for Russell, and the largest county in the 12th District hasn't even reported yet — nor have any absentees been counted.

#2  I gather Murtha is so fearful of running against a Republican opponent, that he got two democrats to change party affiliation to Republican, then told Democrats to vote for them in the open primary, figuring the Democrats would outnumber the Republicans.

Once they won the Republican primary, they just dropped out of the race, leaving Murtha to run unopposed.

His Lt. Col. Republican opponent had other ideas, however. And while he's not running on the Republican ticket, he is running as a Republican.

#6  OS, the problem is that even though he may in fact be a traitorous, doddering old scumbag, he brings home the bacon to his district in the form of contracts for contributors. As a result, even if everyone outside of the 12th district hates him, it is only the people in that district who get to vote for or against him. And he can point to all the of our money he brought into the district and ask the people if they want a newby in place instead of him.

Home Front: WoT
Parents of Fallen Soldier Sue
APRIL 23--The parents of a 21-year-old soldier killed in Iraq are suing an online retailer for including their son's name on antiwar t-shirts that list the names of thousands of military personnel killed in the war. In a $10 million federal lawsuit, Michael and Robin Read allege that the manufacturer of the shirts is using their son Brandon's name in a commercial venture without their permission. The Reads's complaint, a copy of which you'll find below, was filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in Greeneville, Tennessee; it names Dan Frazier and his firm Lifeweaver, LLC as defendants. While the lawsuit makes mention of Frazier's free speech right, the Reads contend that protection ended when the Arizona businessman used Brandon's name "for profit." Frazier's sale of the t-shirts--which include the names of fallen soldiers in the background of bold messages like "Bush Lied/They Died"--has caused the Reads emotional distress, according to the lawsuit. Last year, when the Reads learned that Brandon's name was included on Frazier's shirts, the Tennessee couple's lawyer sent Frazier a letter demanding that the late serviceman's name be removed from the $20 garments. Brandon, a sergeant attached to the 125th Transportation Company, was killed by an improvised explosive device in September 2004. Frazier's sale of the shirts has drawn criticism from public officials, and his site advertises the items as "illegal in five states." Last year, Arizona passed a law barring the use of a soldier's name on any item offered for sale (without the permission of the soldier or his/her legal representative). But in response to a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, a federal judge last September issued a preliminary injunction halting the enforcement of the new law.
I knew this young man. The Phelps bunch picketed his funeral and I almost got in trouble. The parents should sue the Phelps, too. I hope they win.
P.S. The ACLU needs to dissapear.

The lone Sikh serving as a traffic warden in Pakistan has put in his papers, alleging discrimination in his department. Gulab Singh resigned a couple of days ago, claiming he was not being treated at par with his colleagues because he was not a Muslim. He said his colleagues made fun of his religion, while his seniors did not take the issue seriously.

Citing the episode that finally led him to give up his job, Singh said a colleague named Faisal had falsely blamed him for reporting his absence to senior officials. When he reached his post the next day, another warden named Mubasher misbehaved with him and forcibly took off his turban, Singh told the Daily Times. He also alleged that traffic wardens who were present at the spot made fun of him, while his complaint to Inspector Shahid Nadeem failed to elicit any response. Shortly after the incident, he resigned.

Senior officials in the traffic police department said an inquiry was being conducted into the incident and a show cause notice had been issued to Mubasher. Singh's colleagues, on the other hand, claimed he had been threatening to quit ever since he was recruited. They said he had an "attitude problem" and a history of picking fights with colleagues.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ichra Shehzad Khan said, "The matter will be resolved within the next two days as senior officers are personally looking into the matter."

#1  The "Land of the Pure" was not meant for impure Sikhs, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists etc.

The Ahyamadi Muslims have been declared as Kufr, the Shia are being persecuted. The mullah who first declared the Ahyamadi to be non-Muslim was chosen by Jinnah to raise the first Pakistani flag at the Independence ceremony in 1947. A sign of things to come...

Public Transport Mastermind pulled up: Mercedes for self, bus for others
For the first time on Tuesday, the progenitor of the ill-conceived project Professor Dinesh Mohan felt the heat. At the review meeting, the professor was cornered for not anticipating the problems, which people were facing. Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf took him to task for sending politically incorrect message by spearheading the cause of public transport while himself travelling in a Mercedes Benz.
Bet Al Gore is his hero
Upset with Prof Dinesh Mohan's wrong projection of the traffic volume on the stretch, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit reportedly complained against conviction that the BRT experiment has been successfully undertaken in 80 cities and the present 81st project would also prove to be beneficial to the people. "Why the increase in the volume of traffic was not anticipated? Why proper study was not done? What happened to the projections," Dikshit asked.
Yes.. the Chief Minister of Delhi is named Dikshit
The Chief Minister said that her Government had taken a bold step to implement the BRT based on the study conducted by RITES and Prof Dinesh Mohan to ensure people's convenience. All obstacles coming in the way of smooth operationalisation of the pilot BRT project were removed. Expressing her anger, Dikshit said that it's hardly a matter for the common people as to who is the implementing agency. "The Delhi Government is answerable for the BRT mess," the Chief Minister said pointing a finger at Prof Mohan, who was at loss of words.

Even the Transport Minister questioned Mohan for commuting in Mercedez Benz sending politically incorrect message. "You travel in a Mercedez Benz and advise car users to switch over to public transport," Yusuf said. On the queries of Yusuf, Prof Mohan initially did not utter a single word but finally he replied that his Mercedez Benz was 27-year-old. This must have left Yusuf mulling if the vehicle needed re-registration.
Is an old Mercedes green?
Mohan tried to defend the project, saying BRT experiment has been successfully undertaken in 80 cities, including Bogota forcing an official present to quip, "We must at least realise now that Delhi was not Bogota." According to sources, a red-faced Prof Mohan assured Dikshit that the situation on the BRT stretch would improve.

Tony Snow cancels speeches at EWU
SPOKANE -- Former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow has canceled a series of speaking engagements at Eastern Washington University because of illness. Snow was supposed to make a series of appearances Tuesday at EWU. However, he was taken to the hospital to be treated for exhaustion, in consultation with his doctor, according to a source at the University. The source said he checked into the hospital at 9:30 a.m.

Snow was diagnosed with colon cancer several years ago, and he left his position as press secretary for President Bush in September to deal with the disease. He has said the cancer is in remission. This week, Snow was hired by CNN to be a conservative commentator. Before being named Press Secretary, he spent several years working at CNN rival Fox News.
