Bangladesh
Foreign funds keep flowing for militants
[Dhaka Tribune] The bad boy outfits are taking advantage of the ordinary Moslems while recruiting new members. They try to convince the youths, mostly from poor families or the Rohingyas, by saying that their activities are meant for pleasing the Almighty and saving the religion from the clutches of anti-Islam quarters

Following the recent arrest of a number of leaders and members of old, new and hybrid bad boy groups in Chittagong as well as across the country, Sherlocks have found that most of those outfits are funded by foreign organizations and individuals.

In some cases, the funds come for establishing mosques and madrasas, or as aid to so-called NGOs working for the welfare of persecuted Moslems, mainly the Rohingyas living in peril in the country's southern part, police said.

Govt to challenge Sayedee's sentence
[Dhaka Tribune] Attorney General Mahbubey Alam yesterday said that the government would move a review petition with the Appellate Division seeking death sentence for convicted war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi
...Islamic orator and politician. He was a former Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Bangladesh from 1996 to 2008, and is one of the most prominent leaders of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami...
.

"The state will file a review petition against the sentence [of Sayeedi] after getting the full judgement," Mahbubey told news hounds at his office. He hoped that the court would overturn the previous verdict and hand down capital punishment.

The International Crimes Tribunal 1 had sentenced Sayeedi to death on February 28, 2013 for his complicity in crimes against
humanity against the Hindus and freedom fighters in Pirojpur during the 1971 Liberation War.

But in the appeal case verdict, the top court on September 17 commuted his punishment to imprisonment until death. The court is yet to release its full verdict.

After the appeal case judgement, Prime Minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and current Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has been the President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She has once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia show such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums..
, several ministers and war trial campaigners had expressed frustration over the sentence.

On the other hand, the Jamaat members conducted massive attacks on the law enforcers, ruling party supporters and Hindus in many districts across the country in 2013 in protest against the tribunal verdict killing dozens of people and destroying state properties.

Mahbubey, the top law officer of the country, also said that the full verdict in Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid's case would be published soon. The apex court gave its judgement upholding the tribunal's death sentence on June 16.

Upon getting the full text of the judgement, the government will start process for executing the death row convict.

The war criminal, who had acted as the chief of al-Badr force, can seek a review of the sentence once the full judgement is released. He can also seek presidential mercy admitting his crimes.

The full verdict in the case of convicted war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury is also pending with the top court.

So far, the government has executed the death sentences of top war criminals and Jamaat leaders Abdul Quader Molla and Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.

Lawyers confess to depositing money, deny militancy links
[Dhaka Tribune] The three lawyers, held for financing militancy, have confessed to depositing money into a bank account linked to the Shahid Hamza Brigade, but claimed they were only returning an advocacy fee they had taken in advance.

Yesterday, Supreme Court practitioners Barrister Shakila Farzana, daughter of former BNP whip Sayed Wahidul Alam; and Md Hasanuzzaman Liton; and Dhaka judge's court lawyer Mahfuz Chowdhury Bapon gave confessional statements under the penal code before a Chittagong court, said sources.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Sajjad Hossain recorded the statements of the three lawyers, shown arrest in an explosives case filed with the Banshkhali cop shoppe on February 21 after a training centre of the Lion of Islam group had been busted.

3 RAB members sued over BCL leader Arju killing
[Dhaka Tribune] A case was filed yesterday against four people, including three RAB officials, on charges of abducting and killing Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
's Hazaribagh unit president Arju Mia.

The four are RAB 2 Commanding Officer Colonel Masud Rana, Deputy Assistant Director Shahidur Rahman, Inspector Wahid and RAB informant Ratan. Several unnamed persons were also accused in the case.

Arju was the prime accused in a case filed over the brutal beating of 17-year-old Raja on theft allegations in Hazaribagh, who departed this vale of tears on August 17.

The Chhatra League leader died on August 18 in what RAB said was a shootout.

Arju's brother Masud Rana filed the case with Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, mentioning five people as witnesses.

After the case was filed, Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan said an order leader Arju killing

on whether the court would take cognisance of the charges against the RAB members would be given on August 25.

In the case statement, Masud claimed that he had to file the case with the court as Hazaribagh police refused to take the complaint.

But Hazaribagh cop shoppe Officer-in-Charge Alimuzzaman Ali said no one came to police to file any case.

The plaintiff described Arju as an innocent and brilliant student leader in the case statement.

He mentioned that Arju was kidnapped by the accused RAB officials the day Raja died as part of a plan to kill the young student leader.

Arju's mother Joytunnesa earlier told the Dhaka Tribune that Arju and his friends beat up Raja after suspecting the boy of stealing mobile phone and laptop.

She said Raja's death was caused by Arju's friends who along with Arju beat the minor boy up.

RAB placed in durance vile
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
Arju after a complaint was lodged by Raja's sister Reshma Akhter following the death of the minor boy while the shootout took place when the RAB team headed to Baroikhal area to arrest Arju's associates.

"Some miscreants attacked the RAB team to snatch Arju around 3:30am, and Arju sustained bullet injuries while trying to escape," RAB Assistant Director Major Maksud said.

"If someone thinks that Arju's death was a premeditated murder, he can file a case. But RAB officials know what happened on that night and they are not afraid of any lawsuit."

Arju's death caused anger among local Awami League, Jubo League
... the youth wing of the Bangla Awami League...
and Chhatra League leaders.

On August 19, Awami League's Hazaribagh unit leaders and Arju's family claimed at a presser that there was no shootout and RAB made up the story.

Hazaribagh unit General Secretary Sadeque Hamid Saju told the conference that Hazaribagh is a BNP stronghold and a quarter paid a large sum of money to have Arju killed as part of steps to hinder the area's development since last elections.

He claimed that Raja was killed in a mob beating.

Local politician Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh also termed Arju's death a killing.

After Arju's death, Raja's family said they were living in fear of attack by Arju's family.

China-Japan-Koreas
50 N. Korean submarines away from base
More than 50 North Korean submarines are apparently away from their bases for operations, a sign that the North is gearing up for combat while participating in high-level talks aimed at easing tension, an official here said Sunday. The North is known to have around 70 submarines.

"Seventy percent of North Korea's submarines left their bases, and their locations are not confirmed," the South Korean military official told reporters.

The unpredictable communist nation has also doubled the number of its artillery troops on the border, with the command to be combat ready, according to the official.

Top government officials from the two Koreas were supposed to resume their talks at the truce village of Panmunjom at 3 p.m. Sunday. It has not been confirmed yet whether they began the meeting as scheduled.

#1  Can the subs reach the US or shooting distance?
Posted by: 3dc || 08/24/2015 2:08 Comments || Top||

#2  3DC,

Kimmie's operational boats are a weird mix:

*About 30 Romeo and Whisky SS, all 50s and 60s ex-Soviet and ex-Chinese, with a handful of Nork-built ones in the fleet. The oldest ones are near museum pieces, and although they are capable enough for the time when they were built, up against a late-flight Los Angeles (or worse, a brand new Virginia) they will be in deep trouble unless their skippers and crews are world class...and they ain't.
*Approximately 40 Sang-0 class. These are good, well-designed, but fairly small boats that can only carry 2 torpedoes and/or 4 mines...and the mines are likely to be what they're carrying. On the other hand, the ROK captured one of these beasts some years ago, so they know it inside and out.
*A small number of midget subs, one of which killed the ROK frigate Cheonan a couple years ago. If anything, these are the ones we need to be worried about - they're small, quiet, and they've got a punch.

As far as them getting close to the US...the Romeos and Whiskeys could do it, but if they have, there's an SSN sitting right behind them waiting. The Sang-0s and midgets are strictly local - but they could do grim damage to merchant traffic in ROK ports or even some Japanese ports.

#3  Can the subs reach the US or shooting distance?

Sure, but unlikely.
DPRK can receive logistics support overland from either Russia or China. The 20,000 US troops in ROK can only be supported through the seaports. Simply blocking those channels by sinking a few tankers and freighters will isolate the ROK.
One scenario that was once played by David Poyer was a mini-sub nuclear event at the major ROK port of Pusan. Such an action would make all of the heavy-lift load and unload resupply capability unavailable.

#7  How much of this increased posturing is real pre-war positioning of forces (the explosions in Japan at us logistics facilities are very troubling) and how much is bluster at a new level. #10  Do any of these subs have ballistic missile capability, perhaps something improvised and grafted on?

Ballistic missile capability? No.

Improvised and grafted? It's remotely possible. There is evidence that one submarine has undergone sail modifications for a missile tube. At last report, the only tests were for ejecting the missile (not the actual firing of the missile.) Whether or not that has been done to others would be conjecture.

#11  If I have a specialty, which is questionable, nautical strategies are not it. I have noted over the years however, that the NORKS use small subs for pesky infiltration missions into the South. They have generally turned into one-way suicide missions. 50 seems a rather large number.

#12  Their value is in the implied threat. In an actual shooting war N. Korea would fall apart quickly.

#13  If NK thinks it might end up in a shooting war, it makes sense to surge the only useful naval assets they have and get them out to sea rather then let them be destroyed at dock.

#15  Again, CHINA = PLA is in control of NOKOR's military + Space, NUke Programs, etc. NOT NOKOR per se.

NOKOR has then unenviable job or duty to be killed by one or both sides, i.e. US-Allies-vs-China, iff a major war breaks out on the Peninsula.

The real threat to SOKOR + JAPAN is via CHINA's LRBMS, PLAAF ALCMS + TLAMS, Motherly PLA Airborne Forces, + Sino-NOKOR SPECOPS.

Again, CHINA = unlikely to agree to any INTER-KOREAN REUNIFICATION unless it de facto gets back TAIWAN, + any new post-Reunification Inter-Korean Govt. must also likely be CHINA-FRIENDLY/NEUTRAL, + NONE OR VERY SMALL, BENIGN US MILFOR PRESENCE IN THE NOW FORMER SOUTH KOREA [ditto Japan?].

PERSONALLY, I'M INTERPRETING THIS LATEST INCIDENT BETWEN THE TWO KOREAS AS CHINA GETTING MORE BELLICOSE IN REGARDS TO ACHIEVING ITS SUPERPOWER AMBITIONS + STRATEGIC ACCESS FOR THE PLA IN EAST ASIA-PACIFIC.

* FYI PRAVDA > US [weighs option = decision] TO DEPLOY [base] B-52 NUCLEAR BOMBERS AND NUCLEAR SUB IN SOUTH KOREA.

CHINA = Beijing to get more nervousy twitchy.

MOre evidencia/indicia that so-called US-CHINA "SHARING" OF THE PACIFIC = US DOMINATING OR ISOLATING CHINA IN AN UN-FRIENDLY, ANTI/NON-CO-SUPERPOWER WAY.

* TOPIX > [Japan Times] CHINA WANTS GREAT POWER, NOT RESPONSIBILITY.

#16  NO RETURN OF TAIWAN TO MAINLAND CHINA = CHINA WILL CONTINUE TO DOMINATE, IFF NOT EVENTUALLY ANNEX, NORTH KOREA, + SOKOR IN TIME AS OPPORTUNITY ARISES.

CHINA = wants the Diaoyus/Senkaku Islands + Okinawa Islands, + new islands in SCS, to secure the startegic approaches to,from its desired future PLA CENTCOM on Taiwan.

This is genuine evil.

German politicians' reaction to this was strangely neutral.

Most didn't comment on this.

The interior minister issued a lackluster formal condemnation.

The communist state PM called the defacement of a Koran intolerable and voiced understanding for the rioters, stopping short of giving them outright support.

French train attacker: An extremist who moved around Europe
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Moroccan suspect in the attack on a high-speed train as it travelled between Amsterdam and Gay Paree had lived in Spain and briefly in Belgium and spent time in Syria, according to intelligence services.

A picture began to emerge of 25-year-old Moroccan Ayoub El Khazzani, who was last seen in pictures on social media on the floor of the train with his arms tied behind his back after three American passengers tackled him as he fired a gun and carried a blade.

Chris Norman, a British businessman who also helped subdue him, said he was small, thin and not visibly very strong.

Khazzani's case also illustrates the near-impossible task that authorities in Europe face in keeping tabs on hundreds of turbans, many of whom have returned from Syria after fighting for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Spanish intelligence services had flagged up to their French counterparts as long ago as February 2014 that he was an Islamic turban.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said that information led to him being placed on a list "so that we could locate him if he ever came on to French soil".

The minister said Khazzani "lived in Spain in 2014 then in Belgium in 2015".

A source close to the inquiry said: "This man lived in Belgium, got on a train in Belgium with weapons that he had undoubtedly acquired in Belgium, and he had identity papers from Spain."

His Spanish residency permit gave him access to the 26 European countries that make up the visa-free Schengen zone.

"He was able to move around freely," the source said.

Khazzani caught the attention of security services in each of the countries he visited.

In Spain, he was said to have been heard calling for jihad in fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
speeches in mosques in the southern town of Algesiras. He also had a reputation for dealing drugs.

A Spanish anti-terrorist source told AFP: "He lived for seven years in Spain, first in Madrid and then in Algesiras, from 2007 to March 2014 when he moved to La Belle France."

"Once he was in La Belle France, he then travelled to Syria, before returning to La Belle France," the Spanish source said.

At the beginning of 2014, Madrid had tipped off French intelligence that Khazzani was about to enter La Belle France, but his location was never pinpointed.

"The French say they had no more information about him until May 10, 2015," another source said.

On that date, they were informed by their German counterparts that Khazzani was about to fly from Berlin to the Turkish city of Istanbul, a French intelligence official told AFP.

Soon afterwards, Spanish authorities told La Belle France that he had moved to Belgium. Belgian Justice Minister Koen Geens said he was "known" to the country's intelligence services.

Yet Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said in a TV interview Saturday that the information about him was sketchy at best.

"There was no material proof or concrete evidence that allowed us to find him, to know exactly when he lived in Belgium. He seemed to be someone who travelled around within Europe."

On Friday, Khazzani boarded the packed train in Brussels carrying an arsenal of a Kalashnikov rifle, an automatic pistol, ammunition and a blade.

It appears that only the intervention of the Americans, two of whom were servicemen, prevented a bloodbath.

#1  No, no. You've got it all wrong. He was no radical. He was just a poor, marginalized, hungry immigrant. He happened to find an AK-47 in a park, (plus several loaded magazines, a handgun, and a box cutter). So he decided to ask the nice people on the train for some food.

Just ask his lawyer.

The Grand Turk
HDP co-chair Demirtas calls on PKK to halt violence 'without ifs or buts'
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has called on the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) to halt a month of violence against security forces "without ifs or buts."

The comments were the clearest call yet from HDP co-chair Selahattin Demirtas for the PKK to agree to an unconditional cease-fire, although the leader also called for a summary end to government attacks in the east and southeast.

"The PKK has to stop its armed attacks and bombings in the towns and the mountains without ifs or buts," the Dogan News Agency quoted Demirtas as saying in a speech in the western city of Izmir.

"There is no alternative for us. More deaths of Kurds, Turks, soldiers, guerillas and police must be stopped," said Demirtas.

"The government must halt operations with ifs or buts [as well]," he said.

The government accuses the HDP of being the PKK's political wing but Demirtas has repeatedly insisted that there is distance between the two organizations.

With Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
now planning to call snap polls for Nov. 1, the HDP is mindful of not putting off its non-Kurdish supporters who voted for the party in inconclusive June 7 polls.

The HDP then easily broke through the 10 percent threshold needed to win seats in the parliament largely thanks to its success in expanding its support base.

'Civilian coup' carried out in Turkey, CHP leader says
[Hurriyet Daily News] President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
is staging a "civilian coup" over plans to hold snap elections after the recent failure of coalition talks, Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu has said.

The CHP, which held weeks of coalition talks with the AKP, says Erdogan deliberately stymied the negotiations in the hope of triggering new polls and a better result for his party.

"There is no law in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
at the moment. Democracy is currently suspended and the constitution is not working," Kilicdaroglu told a televised meeting of CHP MPs in Ankara on Aug. 23.

"We are faced with a civilian coup," he said, in a nod to Turkey's modern history, which has seen the country experience three direct military coups in 1960, 1971 and 1980.

Kilicdaroglu said the CHP, which came second in the June 7 polls, was willing to be the minority partner in a coalition led by Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, which would have been "respected inside and outside" of Turkey. In order for this to be realized, his party wanted to see change on three major issues: Foreign policy which needed a "180 degree transformation," the economy, and an education system "that leaves no parent satisfied."

On Aug. 21, President Erdogan announced that he would meet the speaker of the Turkish parliament on Aug. 24 to exercise his right to call snap elections, slated to be held on Nov. 1.

The CHP is incensed that Erdogan did not hand it the mandate and a chance to form a coalition government after the failure of talks with the AKP, accusing him of violating the constitution.

India-Pakistan
Delhi uncertain on fate of high-level talks with Pakistan
[ARABNEWS] Indian officials said on Sunday that two planned meetings with Pak counterparts are now uncertain after talks between their national security advisers were cancelled amid a row over disputed Kashmiree.

The collapse of peace talks hours before they were to start on Sunday has raised questions about the arch-rivals' willingness to overcome mutual mistrust, built since their separation almost seven decades ago.

Pakistain said late Saturday it could not accept India's "preconditions" for the talks which had been scheduled for Sunday in New Delhi, effectively cancelling them.

Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said Saturday that apart from Sunday's meeting two other high-level meetings of officials had been planned to discus border and cease-fire violations. Cross-border shelling in Kashmiree this month has caused several civilian deaths on both sides.

when they met in the Russian city of Ufa last month.

"We have already described the cancellation of NSAs (national security advi sers) meet by Pakistain as unfortunate," a senior Foreign Ministry official told AFP on Sunday, referring to an earlier Tweet by the ministry.

"Now, the fate of those other two meetings is also not clear... it will take a few days for some more clarity."

Swaraj had given Islamabad till Saturday midnight to agree to restrict the NSA talks to "terrorism only" after a row over Pakistain's plan to meet Kashmiri separatist leaders and its insistence on broadening the scope of the talks.

Swaraj insisted that what Pakistain described as "preconditions" were actually "the agenda for NSAs meet which both leaders agreed to in Ufa."

We are a nuclear power, and know how to defend ourselves: Sartaj Aziz
[DAWN] Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz
...Adviser to Pak Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, who believes in good jihadis and bad jihadis as a matter of national policy...
said on Sunday that the current Indian government under Narendra Modi acts as if it is a regional superpower.

"Modi's India acts as if they are a regional superpower, we are a nuclear-armed country and we know how to defend ourselves," said Aziz.

"We also have evidence of Indian agency RAW's involvement in fuelling terrorism in Pakistain," added Aziz.

He also said that while Pakistain has evidence of Indian involvement in terrorism, India on the other hand only has propaganda against Pakistain.

"Propaganda against Pakistain is more important for the Indians, rather than giving us evidence," stated the adviser to the premier.

Sartaj Aziz also said that India wants normalisation on their own terms, they would like to talk about trade and connectivity but not much else.

He remarked, "If Kashmire is not an issue for India, why have stationed 700,000 troops in Indian-occupied Kashmire?"

The adviser to the premier also stated that India should hold a referendum in occupied Kashmire, and the people would decide their own fate.

"India should realise after the current episode that their tactics are not working, and they need to be sincere about dialogue with Pakistain," added Aziz.

Yesterday, the government decided to cancel the planned meeting of national security advisers with India, citing New Delhi's refusal to allow an expanded agenda and a meeting with Kashmiri leaders.

The Indian external affairs ministry immediately termed the decision "unfortunate" and tried to wash its hands of the controversy that led to the cancellation of the meeting by saying that it "did not set any preconditions".

The decision was announced after Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj virtually set a deadline for Pakistain to decide by midnight if it was ready to go ahead with the talks by agreeing not to meet the Kashmiri leaders and restricting the discussion to terrorism.

#1  The last time I looked at a History book....Paki has lost ALL its last four wars with India. India took 93,000 Paki prisoners last time. That was about HALF their entire Army.

AND ( wait there's more ) HALF of Paki disappeared and India made sure it became a new and independent country called Banhla Desh ( where Moslem Pakis murdered 3,000,000 unarmed civilians who weren't circumcised like Moslems...just pull down your pants in the street and shoot you if you aren't circumcised, and then shoot your entire family too ( but them Moslems are like that ).
And Moslems PREFER you to be unarmed, and they like it when your whole family is unarmed too. It seems to attract them.

Imran also said that the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) chairman should also tender his resignation as he was part of covering-up the rigging that took place in the general elections of 2013.

"We want answers to our queries so that these issues are resolved before the upcoming by-polls and local body polls," said Imran. If the ECP has to carry on conducting elections in this way, then there is no point having them, he asserted.

Iraq
Iraqi official: 10,000 troops ready to recapture Ramadi
[RUDAW.NET] A top Iraqi official told Rudaw on Saturday the deployment of joint military forces to recapture the besieged city of Ramadi is complete as more than 10,000 troops from the police and army have been mobilized for the long-awaited offensive.

General Jaafar Saddam from the Iraqi national police force told Rudaw the offensive will be "decisive" and aims to liberate parts of the city that are currently under Islamic State

control.

ISIS forces captured Ramadi, capital of Anbar province, in early May. The jihadists overran additional swaths of land in central Iraq after the offensive. Iraqi troops backed by local tribal fighters and Shiite militias have been trying to regain control of the city since then.

Control of neighborhoods in Ramadi has changed hands between the holy warriors and Iraqi forces amid fierce daily festivities.

Dozens of Iraqi troops were killed on Saturday near the city in ambushes and bombings, said bigwigs from Anbar.

"ISIS holy warriors attack Husaibiya district in eastern Ramadi almost daily but have been pushed back by our forces," Saddam said, adding that dozens of holy warriors were also killed in ground attacks and Arclight airstrikes since Friday.

Coalition Arclight airstrikes targeted ISIS sites in more than 11 cities over the weekend, a statement issued by the United States-led coalition forces said Saturday, reporting that 27 Arclight airstrikes were carried out in both Iraq and Syria to "degrade ISIS capabilities."

The Iraqi military in July launched an offensive to retake the predominantly Sunni-populated Anbar province, which is considered essential for pushing ISIS out of Iraq. Anbar covers a vast area from Baghdad to the Syrian border.

Hundreds of thousands of locals have fled the war-torn province to seek safer areas in the Kurdish-controlled north, exacerbating the ongoing refugee crisis in the Kurdistan region, where already more than 1.5 million refugees have fled.

Kurdish authorities hope the recapture of Ramadi will pave the way for the return of thousands of displaced families from the area who now live in the Kurdistan region.

#1  Those Moslem 10,000 "troops" will STILL be expected to actually FIGHT. Not stand around and snarl. Not stand around and wave their arms. Not stand close to the helicopters that brought them up to the Front. But actually deploy and lock and load and take the objective.

Do you suppose said "troops" are motivated and their morale is high and they are proud of their previous record ( or that they actually HAVE a proud record as men who actually Fight)?

Or do you suppose they are typical Iraqi Moslems? Moslems are known for producing real soldiers. Yes ? Their reputation as soldiers is... ( just how would your describe Moslems as soldiers )?

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel said to import $1 billion in oil from Iraqi Kurds
[IsraelTimes] Jerusalem bought 19 million barrels in May-August, according to Financial Times; Kurds deny selling 'directly or indirectly' to Israel

Israel has imported nearly 1 billion dollars' worth of oil from Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region in the past few months, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

According to the report, Israel purchased 19 million barrels of Kurdish oil, worth roughly $1 billion, between May and August of this year. The massive amount meets two-thirds of the Jewish state's oil needs and may be a way for Jerusalem to covertly support the Kurds' fight against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, the report said.

"That is the equivalent of about 77 per cent of the average Israeli demand, which runs at roughly 240,000 barrels per day. More than a third of all of the northern Iraqi exports, which are shipped from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's Mediterranean port of Ceyhan, went to Israel over the period," continued the report. Industry sources said Israel may have stored or exported some of the oil.

The Kurdistan Regional Government denied selling the oil "directly or indirectly" to Israel, but said that its main concern was funding the battle against IS and preserving the functioning of government.

"We do not care where the oil goes once we have delivered it to the traders," a senior Kurdish government adviser in Erbil told the Financial Times. "Our priority is getting the cash to fund our peshmerga forces against Daesh [the Arabic term for IS] and to pay civil servants' salaries."

The report stressed that Israel aside, the Kurds in Iraq have exported oil to Italia, La Belle France and Greece, deepening a dispute between the Kurds and the Iraqi leadership over oil exports.

"Traders and industry analysts have suggested that Israel may be acquiring the Kurdish oil at a discounted price, though officials in the Kurdistan Regional Government deny this. Others have suggested it may be a way for Israel to funnel financial support to the Kurds," the report speculated.

A report in February 2015 said an Iraqi Kurdish tanker, United Kalvrvta, had docked in Ashkelon with 1 million barrels of crude oil on board.

In the 1960s, Israel sent Mossad advisers to help Kurdish leader Mulla Mustafa Barzani, and to manage the Kurds' battles against the Iraqi army.

Abbas quits PLO leadership ahead of internal election
[ARABNEWS] Paleostinian president the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
resigned Saturday as head of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's Executive Committee in a bid to force new elections for the top body, an official said.

Wassel Abu Yussef said that more than half of the 18-member committee had also stepped down.

"The resignation of the president of the executive committee Mahmoud Abbas and more than half of its members has created a legal vacuum, and therefore the Paleostine National Council has been asked to meet in one month to elect a new executive committee," Yussef told AFP.

Yussef added, however, that the resignations will take effect only when the PNC meets. The PNC, or Paleostinian parliament, has 740 members who live in the Paleostinian territories and in the diaspora. It has not met in nearly 20 years.

Yussef said that before the resignations were announced, the executive committee elected chief Paleostinian negotiator Saeb Erakat as its secretary general. That move came after Abbas suspended another key member, Yasser Abed Rabbo
... Paleostinian politician and a member of the Paleostine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee. He holds an M.A. in economics and political science from the American University in Cairo.....
, as secretary general. It was not immediately clear why Rabbo had been sidelined.

Israeli security force fears Jewish activists could launch terror strikes
[UPI] Israel's internal security force on Sunday formally suppressed a small group of Jewish activists, who it fears could attempt to attack Paleostinians in the conflict-laden country.
Yeah. What's that Hebrew word for "intifada" again?
The Israeli Security Agency, or Shin Bet, issued administrative orders against the individuals -- some of whom are under the age of 18 -- that place them under house arrest with a curfew. The orders also bar them from certain locations and prohibit contact with certain acquaintances, The Jerusalem Post reported Sunday.

The orders are the Israeli government's latest attempts to disrupt home-grown terrorism -- particularly right wing-inspired violence -- in the wake of last month's deadly attack on the village of Duma, where a Paleostinian father and son were killed by Jewish krazed killers.

No one has been charged in relation to the fire kaboom, but government officials say the new orders are designed to be preventative in nature -- and are in line with the government's mission to fight terrorism.

"Due to a number of terror attacks that have been carried out recently, including ones in which people were killed, the Shin Bet recommended restraining orders against 10 activists," the security agency said.

Southeast Asia
Malaysia finds 24 more bodies of trafficking victims
[ARABNEWS] Malaysian police said Sunday that they have found 24 more bodies of suspected human trafficking victims in jungles bordering Thailand.

Authorities said in May that they had discovered 139 suspected graves in abandoned jungle camps in the northern Malaysian state of Perlis, a remote area bordering Thailand that trafficking syndicates were using as a transit point.

Most of the victims were believed to be from Myanmar's persecuted Rohingya minority or impoverished migrants from Bangladesh.

Police said in a brief statement Sunday that 24 bodies were discovered this past week, in addition to 106 bodies found earlier. The bodies have been sent for an appointment with Dr. Quincy, the statement said. No further details were available.

The discoveries in northern Malaysia followed similar revelations earlier in May in Thailand, where police unearthed 36 bodies from shallow graves in seven abandoned camps on the Thai side of the border.

The discoveries have exposed hidden networks of jungle camps run by human smugglers, who have for years held countless desperate people captive while extorting ransoms from their families. Most of the victims were part of a wave of people who fled their homelands to reach countries like Malaysia, where they hoped to find work or live freely.

Human rights groups and activists say the area along the Thai-Malaysia border has been used for years to smuggle migrants and refugees, including Rohingya Moslems.

In many cases, they pay human smugglers thousands of dollars for passage, but are instead held for weeks or months while traffickers extort more money from their families. Rights groups say some have been beaten to death, and The News Agency that Dare Not be Named has documented other cases in which people have been enslaved on fishing boats.

S.Korean officials visit Iran to seek post-sanction deals
Another country that will fight reimposing sanctions on Iran, thanks to President Obama.
[Ynet] South Korean government and corporate officials are visiting Iran this week to hunt out possible deals in the oil, gas and construction industries since an agreement was reached to lift sanctions on Tehran.

South Korean deputy trade minister Woo Tae-hee visits the Islamic nation on Sunday and Monday, accompanied by officials of his ministry and state-run oil, gas and resources firms, the ministry of trade, industry and energy said on Sunday.

"We plan to highlight the capability of our firms for major projects with which the Iranian government seeks to rebuild infrastructure, diversify industries and develop energy fields in the post-sanctions era," the ministry said in a statement.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Britain has paid the full cost of repairing its embassy which reopened today in the Iranian capital Tehran after a mob ransacked it in 2011 – and Iran has not yet shown signs of paying the UK back, London-based daily The Telegraph reported on Saturday, citing an official source.
"Thank you, sir, may I have another?"
On Sunday, UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond – in a ceremony attended by Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif - watched the British flag being raised in the garden of the opulent 19th century building while the national anthem played.

Beirut protests turn violent for second day as PM threatens to quit
[REUTERS] Protests against the Lebanese government turned violent for a second day on Sunday, and Prime Minister Tammam Salam threatened to resign as public discontent brought thousands into the streets.

Anger at the Salam-led unity cabinet grouping Leb's fractious politicians has come to a head over its failure to resolve a crisis over garbage disposal that reflects the wider failings of the weak state.

Salam's cabinet has been hamstrung by political and sectarian rivalries that have been exacerbated by wider crises in the Middle East, including the war in neighboring Syria.

Salam, in a televised address, warned that Leb was headed towards collapse and that a bigger problem than the trash crisis was the country's "political garbage".

Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Beirut this weekend as part of the "You Stink" campaign directed at the government.

Water cannon and tear gas were fired at protesters, and demonstrators threw rocks and sticks at riot police as violence flared near Salam's offices in central Beirut.

Security forces had gun sex, clouds of tear gas wafted through the streets and shop fronts were smashed as police tried to force protesters from the area.

Britain reopens embassy in Iran ransacked in 2011
[REUTERS] Britannia reopened its embassy in Tehran on Sunday, a striking signal of how Western ties with Iran have thawed since protesters stormed the compound nearly four years ago.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond watched the British flag being raised in the garden of the opulent 19th century building while the national anthem played. In 2011, the attackers burned the Union Jack and ransacked the ambassador's residence.

"Today's ceremony marks the end of one phase in the relationship between our two countries and the start of a new one - one that I believe offers the promise of better," he said.

The storming was a low point in diplomacy between the two countries, he said, but the relationship had improved "step by step" since the election of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in 2013.
