Baghlan Unites Behind Security Forces
[Tolo News] Religious scholars, tribal elders, former jihadi leaders and residents from northern Baghlan province gathered Wednesday to pledge their full support to the Afghan national security forces.

The event was held in Pul-e-Khumri city where those present termed the Taliban's activities un-Islamic.

They announced that Baghlan residents were ready to support the security forces unconditionally.

They said that suicide kabooms are taking the lives of civilians, and that they condemn such acts in the strongest terms.

"We have gathered here to support our security forces and promise that we are standing beside them," a resident of Baghlan told TOLOnews.

"We are all ready to stand by them and combat the enemies of Afghanistan," another resident said.

Local officials in Baghlan welcomed the move and said people collectively have the power to strengthen the morale of the security forces on the battle field.

Sultan Mohammad Ebadi, the acting governor of Baghlan, told TOLOnews that such a movement can empower to security forces. "The security forces are putting their lives in danger every day to fight bully boyz and the enemies of humanity. They need support," he added.

"The security forces are ready to fight for the country's national illusory sovereignty. The move by the residents can strengthen the security forces' morale," Baghlan police chief, Abdul Jabar Purdeli, told TOLOnews.

"We praise such an attempt by the residents," he said

Council of Libyan Elders warns against 'rushing' to war in Sirte
[Libya Herald] The Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based national Council of Libyan Elders cautioned young people to not rush to Sirte to wage war against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) in the town, "unless it's coordinated with the authorities and the army forces, and based on proper military decisions including general mobilisation."

In a statement issued Tuesday in Tripoli, the council , which consists of representatives of the country's communities and tribes, also stressed the importance of the "ongoing Dialogue to reach the National Unity Government," being negotiated by and warned all political stakeholders of their "historical responsibility" for any delays producing it.

The statement about not rushing to Sirte contradicts that of Sheikh Sadek Al-Ghariani, sacked by the House of Representatives as Grand Mufti but still accepted as such by the authorities in Tripoli. In a statement issued by his Dar Al-Ifta (Fatwa House), the controversial sheikh called on all civilians capable of taking up arms, to head to Sirte and defend residents from persecution by IS.

The Elders also called for a census of all Libyans inside and outside the country, to be carried out under the UN supervision, "before addressing any controversial and disputing topics or the constitutional referendum".

The council also sent condolences for those killed in fighting IS in Sirte "and the victims of a sunken boat off the Libyan coast." They were all deaders for Libya, the statement said.

Police station opens in Derna
[Libya Herald] After four years of having no law enforcement forces, the first cop shoppe in the eastern city of Derna opened today at a ceremony attended by the elders and members of the mujahideen, local sources have told the Libya Herald.

The opening ceremony was held after a group of boy scout cleaned up and restored the building which had been set on fire during the Mujahideen-led uprising in June against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) which had controlled the town for six months.

Derna has continued to be targeted by IS forces, still based outside the town in the Fataiah farmland district to the south east. Earlier today, it again tried to re-enter it before being thwarted by the Mujahideen forces.

Arabia
Aden to be declared capital of Yemen for next five years
[YEMENONLINE.INFO] Yemen's internationally recognized government is planning to declare the southern port city of Aden as the country's capital for the next five years, according to the city's governor.

Speaking to Asharq Al-Awsat on Saturday, Nayef Al-Bakri said this was due to Aden's possessing the "necessary economic and geographical constituents" to become the focal point of the rebuilding of the country following the crisis that has gripped Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
for almost a year.

Yemen has been in turmoil since September 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
movement occupied the capital Sana'a. Fighting between forces loyal to exiled President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, known as the Popular Resistance, and the Houthis and their allies, has since spread across the country.

This follows recent similar comments from Yemen's Information Minister Nadia Al-Saqqaf. Speaking last week on the local Belqees satellite TV channel, she also said Hadi would be visiting Aden in the coming days.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
a government source told Asharq Al-Awsat President Hadi had not yet issued an official decision on declaring Aden the country's capital.

Aden was liberated from Houthi control last month by the Popular Resistance. Several government ministers have already returned to the city.

A series of victories for the Popular Resistance in the country's south have followed the recapture of Aden.

Aided by an Arab Saudi-led coalition targeting the Houthis, pro-Hadi forces on Saturday said they had expelled the Houthis from Shabwah province, the group's last remaining stronghold in the country's south.

Local sources told Asharq Al-Awsat the Houthis had now completely withdrawn from the province and that it was fully under the control of Hadi loyalists.

#1  Wouldn't this been seen or interpreted as the Houthis winning, not losing, in Yemen???

#2  #1: On the other hand it can be seen as a move to provide the needed time to purge the Houthi minority, which is rather large, in Sanaa itself. While there are reports of Houthi successes along the border with Saudi Arabia, there is little reporting on Saudi efforts to bomb the Houthi homeland back to the Stone Age. Which would in fact take little bombing.

Bahrain condemns UAE Embassy occupation in Yemen by Houthi militia
[YEMENONLINE.INFO] Bahrain Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the occupation of the UAE embassy in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, by the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Foreign Affairs Embassy stressed that this action carried out by Houthi militia is a flagrant violation of international law and diplomatic norms, and a desperate attempt to foil the efforts of re-establishing security and stability in the Republic of Yemen.

The ministry accented on the need to respect the inviolability of the headquarters of diplomatic missions and the safety of their staff as guaranteed by the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations.

The ministry expressed its appreciation of the UAE efforts in re-establishing security and stability in Yemen

'No Saudi is involved in Bahrain terror cases'
[ARABNEWS] A Saudi diplomat has said that there are no Saudis among those accused in terror cases through the use of the Internet in Bahrain because of efforts by Saudi and Bahraini security authorities, local media reported.

Sympathizers of terrorist organizations were found using online newspapers in Gulf countries to create division. This came after the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information stated that electronic newspapers must be better organized.

Saudi Ambassador in Manama Abdullah Al-Sheikh said the stand of the Kingdom in support of the Gulf states is well-known. He said Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
does not accept, in whatever case, any intervention in the affairs of the Kingdom and Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Al-Sheikh said Saudi Arabia doesn't allow her affairs to be compromised or even be commented upon. He said the accused, who have been uncovered, targeted security vehicles and officials, and recently carried out kabooms in Sitra. They also hurled Molotov cocktails and hid or smuggled weapons by sea, but don't have direct links to Daesh or those wanted Saudis. The suspects, however, have direct links to Iran, he added.

Slovakia 'no' to Muslim refugees
[ARABNEWS] Slovakia has announced it will not accept Moslems when it takes in Syrian refugees under a EU relocation scheme, the BBC has reported.

The reason cited by the country's Interior Ministry front man Ivan Metik is that Moslems would not feel at home there.

The country is due to receive 200 people from camps in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Italia and Greece under the EU plan to resettle 40,000 new arrivals.

The UN's refugee agency called on countries to take an "inclusive approach" to relocation. But Metik denied the move was discriminatory and said it was intended to ensure community cohesion.

EU Commission spokeswoman Annika Breithard said she could not comment directly on the Slovak statement, but stressed that EU states were banned from any form of discrimination.

The Grand Turk
Turkey seeks red notice for two ex-prosecutors on the run
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul's Bakirköy district asked the Justice Ministry on Aug. 19 to request Interpol issue a red notice to arrest two former prosecutors wanted for attempting to overthrow the government.

Bakirköy Deputy Public Prosecutor Ömer Faruk Aydiner applied for the red notice to the Justice Ministry.
The move came after the Bakirköy 2nd Penal Court demanded the arrest of former prosecutors Zekeriya Öz, Celal Kara and Mehmet Yuzgec.

Meanwhile,
...back at the hanging, Butch continued with his last words, trying not to repeat himself too often......
the prosecutor's office said the passport of former prosecutor Yuzgec expired in 2008 and he has not applied for a new passport since then.

Öz fled to Armenia through Georgia on Aug. 10, some 12 hours before the Bakirköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant for him, Kara and Yuzgec. The suspects have been accused of attempting to overthrow the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government by force and forming a criminal organization.

Reports indicated Öz flew to Germany from Armenia on Aug. 11 without encountering any problems because the arrest warrant had not been issued in time.

It remains unknown whether Germany was Öz's final destination.

Öz led probes into alleged coup plots, most significantly the controversial Ergenekon trials, during which he was criticized for human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations.

He was also the prosecutor who launched the Dec. 17, 2013, graft probe, the country's most extensive corruption investigation to date, which implicated senior government figures including former ministers Muammer Guler, Erdogan Bayraktar, Egemen Bagis and Zafer Caglayan.

Turkey, US agree on clear and hold plan against ISIL
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and the United States have agreed to clear an area between two Syrian towns by the Turkish border of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) before turning the area over to the Free Syrian Army
... the more palatable version of the Syrian insurgency, heavily influenced by the Moslem Brüderbund...
(FSA).

According to the details of the agreement seen by daily Hurriyet, the two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding and have been working on a military operation plan other than one being implemented under the anti-ISIL coalition led by the U.S.

As part of the existing plan, U.S. jets departing from the Incirlik military base close to the border have been hitting ISIL targets.

Under the new plan, Turkish fighter jets will join the air strikes as part of the clearing phase between Syria's Jarablus and Marea. The two countries will also back local opposition forces on the ground for this phase.

The plan also includes sending volunteer refugees in Turkey to camps that will be built in the zone once it is cleared of ISIL forces.

Erdogan's refusal to give mandate equates to 'putschism,' says CHP
[Hurriyet Daily News] Senior executives of the Republican People's Party (CHP) have warned President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
, arguing his refusal to give the mandate to form a government to their party, which garnered the second highest vote total in the June 7 parliamentary election, would simply mean "putschism."

"If such commissioning is not conducted today by Mr. President, then this would mean the launch of a coup by taking office through democracy and getting strengthened within democracy. We call this putschism," said the CHP's deputy parliamentary group chair, Özgur Özel, speaking to news hounds in Manisa on Aug. 19, after news reports indicated Erdogan signaled he had no intention of giving a mandate to form a new government to the CHP.

According to the same reports, Erdogan indicated instead his willingness to form a short-term government which would carry the country to early elections.

Each time the assignment to form a government was not given to their party was detrimental to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Levent Gök, also a deputy parliamentary group chair for the CHP, said on Aug. 19.

"As the CHP, we are ready to take over the duty in this period, along which the environment is extremely negative, with the constitutional process still going on," Gök said.

Foreign Office summons Indian diplomat to protest ceasefire violations
It's only a violation when the dhimmis shoot back, you see.
[DAWN] Pakistain summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner on Wednesday to lodge a strong protest against the recent 'unprovoked ceasefire violations' by Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) in Jammu and Kashmire's Harpal and other sectors.

"The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was called in by the Director General (South Asia and SAARC) at the Foreign Office to lodge a strong protest against the unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian troops at the Line of Control (LoC) in Harpal and other sectors," said FO Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah.
Whatever the Master Religion does is inherently good and right, and therefore can never be a provocation.
"The Indian firing resulted in the martyrdom of a civilian, Muhammad Shareef," he said.
He went straight to Paradise, so why the fuss, Mr. FO Spokesman? Is not arriving in Paradise most devoutly to be wished for all pious Muslims? Such a gift he was given, and his family, too, for can he not bring up with him those he loved best?
The front man also added that Indian forces also resorted to unprovoked firing at Jandrot, Nakyal and Karela sectors, as a result of which another civilian was killed and four others were maimed.

Pakistan summons Afghan envoy, protests 'baseless allegations'
[DAWN] Afghanistan's Ambassador to Pakistain Janan Mosazai was called in by Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Wednesday to convey Pakistain's concerns over the recent spate of allegations levelled by the Afghan government, media and bigwigs to 'malign' Pakistain.

... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
, Hamid Gul played important role for the unity of Taliban.'

The report further states that an envoy from Hizb-e-Islami (Gulbuddin Hikmatyar) also took part in the recitation of the holy Koran.

'Doctor Ghairat Bahir, envoy of Hikmatyar also took part in the recitation of Koran. He conveyed the message of Hikmatyar to Abdullah Gul (Hamid Gul's son) and said that Hamid Gul was proud of Afghans.'

Hamid Gul was accused of creating insurgency in Afghanistan, Kashmire and Indian Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

that still continues and claims lives.

Ban Urges Restraint after Clashes in Kashmir
[ALMANAR.LB] United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
Secretary-General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon
... of whom it can be said to his credit that he is not Kofi Annan...
urged India and Pakistain on Wednesday to show restraint following festivities in the disputed region of Kashmire that have caused deaths on both sides.

"(Ban) expresses serious concern about the recent escalation of violence along the Line of Control between India and Pakistain, which reportedly resulted in a number of casualties on both sides, including civilians," the UN press office said in a statement.
And when Ban Ki Moon speaks everybody listens...
Ban said an upcoming meeting of the countries' security chiefs on August 23-24 in New Delhi could help bolster dialogue between the two countries, which have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmire.

Iraq
Iraqi officials: Shiite militias will help fight for Mosul
[RUDAW.NET] The Shiite militia groups known as the Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Units, will be part of the operation to recapture the city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
from the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, a spokesperson for the Iraqi government said Wednesday.

Zhuhai Aeraji, the representative of a government-backed coordination unit to recapture Mosul, told news hounds the Shiite fighters will take part in the campaign in coordination with Sunni forces and the Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

"There are many sides who will take part in the operation, including a US military and consultative forces in cooperation with Kurdistan region and Hashd al- Shaabi," Aeraji said.

Established as a Shiite resistance group in the aftermath of the ISIS lightening offensive last year, the Hashd al-Shaabi have been accused of enflaming sectarian tension and bowing to neighboring Iran.

Hadi Ameri, the movement's leader, is a former Iraqi minister of transportation who has been criticized by Sunni tribal leaders in Anbar province for "indiscriminate and retaliatory" actions.

In March, Ameri appealed to the mostly Sunni residents of Tikrit, a city some 140 km northwest of Baghdad, to leave their homes within 48 hours so government forces could "wrap up the battle of the Dire Revenge for Speicher."

Camp Speicher is an army base near Tikrit where at least 1,500 Shiite recruits were kidnapped and executed in the early days of the ISIS offensive.

Iraq's Sunni leaders fear the participation of the Shiite militia will escalate sectarian tensions among the mixed ethnic and religious populations of the Nineveh plains, where Mosul is the capital.

Karim Nouri, a spokesperson for the Hashd al-Shaabi, said earlier that recapturing central areas in Iraq will "pave the way to drive out ISIS bully boyz from Mosul."

"When Anbar and Salahaddin provinces are freed, I think it will be easier to control Mosul again without much resistance," Karim said, denying there were any tensions between Kurds and Hasd al-Shaabi.

According to government front man Aeraji, the US force that will allegedly help the joint Iraqis forces in Mosul is currently based in Rabia, a town bordering Syria between Duhok and Shingal.

High Court halts administrative detention for Palestinian hunger striker
[IsraelTimes] Ruling could pave way for release of Mohammed Allaan; tests show he may have brain damage

In light of Paleostinian hunger striker Mohammed Allaan's worsening medical condition, his status as an administrative detainee will be put on hold, the High Court ruled Wednesday, a move that could pave the way for his release from Israeli prison.
He bet his life to win a point. He won his point, but lost what was meaningful in life.
The court added that Allaan's family will not be restricted from visiting him at the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where he will remain hospitalized due to his condition.

After the court's ruling was made public, Allaan's family said that he had ended his hunger strike, Channel 2 reported. Allaan's health had deteriorated Wednesday night, and he was again sedated, Channel 2 said.

Medical tests showed that Allaan suffered brain damage due to vitamin deficiency, after waging a 64-day hunger strike to protest his administrative detention by Israel. Reports were conflicting as to whether the damage was reversible.

The hospital said earlier Wednesday that while Allaan was conscious, he was in a confused state and not responding to his surroundings. The statement said that he was continuing to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained as a result of his hunger strike.

The state said during a High Court meeting Wednesday that Israel would release Allaan if medical tests showed he had suffered irreversible brain damage. Israel has reasoned that lasting brain damage would prevent Allaan from returning to the alleged activities for which he was detained, Israeli website Ynet reported.

Allaan, 31, is protesting his incarceration under administrative detention -- an Israeli legal term for imprisonment without trial on terrorism charges -- for alleged affiliation with the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
terrorist organization.

Qadoura Fares, head of the Paleostinian Prisoners Club, told The Times of Israel on Wednesday that a sharp deterioration in Allaan's condition required his immediate release from jail, rebuffing a reported Israeli proposal to refrain from extending his administrative detention come November.

"He's stopped communicating with his environment," Fares told The Times of Israel. "He just stares. It seems like his brain function has tanked."

Allaan emerged from a coma Tuesday and warned he would step up his fast by not drinking water if Israel did not resolve his case within 24 hours, the Paleostinian Prisoners Club said.

Allaan's attorney said Tuesday that his client was no longer of sound mind, and demanded his immediate release.

"The only scenario he will accept is his immediate release," lawyer Jamal Hatib told Army Radio. "He knows that the continuation of his hunger strike is a death sentence for him, and he's willing to do it anyway."

State prosecutors on Wednesday offered to refrain from extending Allaan's detention past his November release date if he ended the hunger strike immediately, his lawyers said.

Israel had previously offered to release Allaan on condition that he leave the country for four years, an offer which was immediately rejected by his lawyers, who demanded that he be released before September 22, the Moslem holiday of Eid al-Adha.

"'I'll continue -- either I'll die or I'll return home,'" Allaan told his brother, the sibling recounted to Army Radio.

Several demonstrations in support of Allaan have been held since his condition began to deteriorate over the past two weeks, with pro-Paleostinian protesters facing off against right-wing Israeli counter-protesters and Israeli police in sometimes violent confrontations.

Israel passed a controversial law last month allowing authorities to force-feed hunger-striking prisoners, but doctors at Barzilai and elsewhere have said they will refuse to comply with the directive.

Several Paleostinians have gone on hunger strike in recent years to protest administrative detention, with a number managing to wrest their freedom or better conditions from Israeli authorities.

#2  To me, going on a real hunger strike is just a slow motion way of committing suicide. You are hoping that the imprisoning authority will yield to pressure and give you what you want.

Sometimes, it works, like it seems to have in this case.

I don't count Cindy Sheehan's "hunger strike", where she survived on smoothies and Jamba juice.

Hamas arrests dolphin accused of being an Israeli spy
The militant Palestinian group Hamas has "arrested" a dolphin discovered off the Gaza coast and accused it of being no Flipper. In fact, the organization believes the dolphin is actually an Israeli spy.

For real though: Army Radio reported that the dolphin was decked out with "spying equipment," including cameras, when it was captured by Hamas' naval unit. While The Times of Israel reports that the Israeli Navy has a fleet of "dolphin-class submarines," Hamas was definitely talking about an actual dolphin.

Israel is so often accused of animal espionage that an entire "Israel-related animal conspiracy theories" Wikipedia page exists. However, since dolphins are some of the smartest mammals on the planet, perhaps they are more likely to actually be spies than, say, the "trained sharks" that Israel allegedly used to target Egypt.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Appalling conditions spread typhoid in Yarmouk camp
[ARABNEWS] Typhoid has broken out among residents of the Yarmouk Paleostinian refugee camp in Syria, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
said on Wednesday, warning of further disease outbreaks because of the appalling conditions there unless aid reaches the camp.

Six cases of typhoid were confirmed by the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees (UNRWA), which gained access to residents from the Yarmouk camp for the first time since June in nearby Yalda, where it carried out more than 200 medical consultations.

Typhoid is contracted by drinking or eating contaminated matter and symptoms include nausea, fever, and abdominal pain. Untreated, the disease can lead to complications in the gut and head which can kill up to one in five patients.

"Our concern is that these typhoid cases only represent the tip of the iceberg, because the erosion of health services and appalling public health standards create a massive, massive risk of diseases breaking out," said UNWRA front man Chris Gunness.

"The situation is desperate, and suffering may be far more widespread and intense inside the camp," Gunness told the Thomson Rooters Foundation by phone from Jerusalem.

The camp, set up close to Damascus in 1957 to house Paleostinian refugees, has become a symbol of the desperate plight of people in rebel-held territory since the Syrian government laid siege to it in 2013.

Daesh attacked the camp in April but withdrew soon afterwards having largely defeated their rival, Aknaf al Maqdis, leaving the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra as the biggest force in the camp.

Secret, backroom deal will permit Iran to conduct own inspections.
[Business Insider] VIENNA (AP) -- Iran, in an unusual arrangement, will be allowed to use its own experts to inspect a site it allegedly used to develop nuclear arms under a secret agreement with the U.N. agency that normally carries out such work, according to a document seen by The Associated Press.

The revelation is sure to roil American and Israeli critics of the main Iran deal signed by the U.S., Iran and five world powers in July. Those critics have complained that the deal is built on trust of the Iranians, a claim the U.S. has denied.

The investigation of the Parchin nuclear site by the International Atomic Energy Agency is linked to a broader probe of allegations that Iran has worked on atomic weapons. That investigation is part of the overarching nuclear deal.

The Parchin deal is a separate, side agreement worked out between the IAEA and Iran. The United States and the five other world powers that signed the Iran nuclear deal were not party to this agreement but were briefed on it by the IAEA and endorsed it as part of the larger package.

Without divulging its contents, the Obama administration has described the document as nothing more than a routine technical arrangement between Iran and the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency on the particulars of inspecting the site.
