Afghanistan
Afghan Sikhs And Hindus 'Being Forced Out Of The Country'
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's once-thriving Sikh community is dwindling fast as many choose to leave the country of their birth to escape what they say is growing intolerance and discrimination.

Once boasting as many as 100,000 members in the 1990s, Afghanistan's Sikh population, according to community leaders, has dwindled to an estimated 2,500.

The reason for the exodus: endemic societal discrimination in the majority Moslem country and the illegal seizure of Sikh homes, businesses, houses of worship and even cemeteries.

Experts Say Half of All Medical Equipment in Afghanistan Unused
[Tolo News] About half of all medical equipment in Afghanistan goes unused because of the dearth of medical professionals and qualified staff at hospitals around the country, industry experts reported on Wednesday.

On the first day of a two-day conference organized by USAID in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, medical technology experts and hospital representatives came together to discuss the challenges facing proper deployment of medical technology and resources in Afghanistan.

"The meeting aimed to talk about problems in medical technology and find solutions for the troubles and to find support for medical equipment vendors," medical company owner Mohammad Hamid Shirzad said.

Hospital officials in attendance said that, despite the fact millions of dollars worth in equipment has been donated to Afghanistan, and the private sector has imported some as well, there is a major lack of professional capacity around the country.

Participants cited the high cost of installing medical equipment, the lack of professional training and clear guidelines for supervision of technical staff, equipment smuggling, customs troubles and inadequate support from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) as major problems facing healthcare in Afghanistan.

"We are trying to reactivate and apply those machines that are worth a lot and technically evaluate those machines that are not usable and then a decision must be made regarding them," MoPH Diagnostic Services chief Ashiq Khan said, outlining the Afghan government's approach to the issue.

In addition, USAID announced that it would donate 60 million USD to Afghanistan in order to invest in maternal and infant health projects over the next five years. The money will be invested through a project called "21 vulnerable provinces of Afghanistan".

Civilians Suffer As Baghlan Battle Wears On
[Tolo News] TOLOnews news hound Sharif Amiry has reported from the front lines of the battle raging in Baghlan province between Afghan forces and the Taliban. Sadly, he says, it is local civilians who have suffered the greatest losses due to the conflict.

The Zekr Khail area of central Baghlan is said to be the stronghold of the Taliban in the province.

Abdullah, a resident in the Zekr Khail area, was warned by Talibs 15 days ago that his home would be re-appropriated for the group's purposes.

He says 20 rockets have landed around his house and all of his belongings have been destroyed. "All I had in my life was destroyed by war," Abdullah said.

"We have suffered many losses and so far, no one has come to help us," he added.

It is currently the harvest season in Baghlan, a time when farmers around the province make a large amount of their revenue for the year. However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
with violence and instability as rife as it is at the moment, it is unlikely the harvest will be as successful as it normally is.

Throughout villages in the Zekr Khail area of the province, battle wounds are common. "It was night, I prayed and wanted to go from one room to another, but mortars came and a piece hit my side and my leg," one maimed resident named Delwar recounted.

Although the Afghan forces have been able to push the Lions of Islam back somewhat, local residents still feel the pain of conflict and have demanded the central government clear the province completely.

Africa North
Loyalist of Algeria's Bouteflika named chief of ruling coalition party
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s cabinet director and loyal backer Ahmed Ouyahia was elected as the new leader of one of the two ruling parties on Wednesday, confirming his status of potential presidential successor.

Speculation over Bouteflika’s health since he suffered a stroke two years ago, and whether he will be able to end his fourth term in 2019, is fuelling debate over who might replace the independence veteran who has been in office since 1999.

The North African OPEC state is at a delicate juncture after a collapse of oil prices cut into energy revenues that make up 95 percent of its exports and more than half the state budget.

Libyan rivals urged to agree quick power-sharing deal in Berlin meeting
BERLIN -- Libya’s rival factions faced strong pressure to agree quickly to a power-sharing deal for the fractured North African country as they met Wednesday in Berlin with officials from world powers. The Berlin meeting brought together nearly two dozen Libyan participants in ongoing UN-brokered talks with the Libya envoys of the five permanent UN Security Council members, Italy, Spain and the European Union.

“The time has come to make an agreement,” Bernardino Leon, the UN envoy leading talks aimed at stemming Libya’s collapse into a failed state, told reporters. “We can continue working for months and for years maybe to reach a perfect agreement, but Libya doesn’t have the time.”
But the UN sure does...
Libya is split between a government backed by militias that seized the capital of Tripoli last August and its elected parliament, which is forced to convene in the country’s far east. The extremist Daesh has gained a foothold amid the chaos, taking the central city of Sirte.
In other words, how Libya generally was divided before the Italians came in...
The Berlin meeting came amid signs of deep division in the elected parliament over the latest, fourth draft of a power-sharing agreement proposed by Leon.

Spokesmen for the parliament and its negotiating team have said they are suspending participation in the UN talks, arguing the proposal gives certain factions too much of a say. However, negotiators who traveled to Berlin issued a statement saying it has “many positive elements.”

Leon said that “the principles of inclusion, balance and consensus are there at every step, (in) every institution.”
Three principles that strangely aren't universally accepted throughout the Middle East. I wonder why...
The general opinion of Libyan representatives was that “this proposal might be acceptable, and this is in both camps,” though there are hardliners on both sides, Leon added.

“The challenge is not only that they agree on this draft, but that they agree soon, that they agree if possible before or at the beginning of Ramadan,” late next week, he said.

“We said that the time has come when there are no more excuses,” German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said. “There is no more time to wait for a fifth or sixth proposal from Bernardino Leon.”

Arabia
Qatar faces first budget deficit in 15 years
[ARABNEWS] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
could run its first budget deficit in 15 years in 2016, official government figures have predicted.
That's what happens when you give all your money away to terrorists...
Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics figures also showed that the Gulf state's economy will grow by 7.3 percent next year. This was down on the previous estimate of 7.7 percent, but still above growth in 2014 of just over six percent.

The figures were released in a statement posted on the ministry's website.

In 2016, Qatar expects to run a fiscal deficit of 4.9 percent of GDP, the ministry said, and 3.7 percent the following year.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the government said it would continue with its huge investment program ahead of hosting the football World Cup in 2022, despite the anticipated deficit.

"The fall in oil prices that began in June 2014 was not anticipated," said Dr. Saleh Al-Nabit, development planning and statistics minister.

"If they persist, lower oil prices will narrow the government's fiscal cushion but our considerable financial reserves will provide an ample buffer.

"Important capital spending plans will proceed."

Doha is expected to spend some $200 billion (180 billion euros) on infrastructure projects over the next decade.

These include a new metro system, a new port, and even a new city north of the capital Doha.

The country's controversial hosting of the 2022 tournament, long criticized over human rights
...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state...
and corruption claims, has come under increased scrutiny in the past few weeks.

Following the arrest of FIFA officials in Zurich, Swiss judicial authorities have announced an investigation into the awarding of the 2022 World Cups as part of a far-reaching corruption scandal.

Officials overseeing plans for the tournament say their preparations remain unaffected.

King tells Saudis to 'stand with us to confront envious foes'
[ARABNEWS] King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Cutodian of the Two Holy Mosquesand Lord of Most of the Arabians....
has called on young people to abide by Islamic principles and reject intolerance.

Addressing the president and bigwigs of the Youth Welfare Presidency and sports clubs recently, King Salman also reportedly said the government would continue to support youth and sports programs.

"Sports competitions should be regulated according to our religious values and teachings that reject intolerance and dissension between citizens. These values also strengthen our allegiance and commitment to the nation."

"The youth form the backbone of nations and play a fundamental role in their progress. We thank God for having young people who are ready to sacrifice their lives for their religion and nation."

King Salman urged young Saudis to become ambassadors for their country, and stand with the leadership to confront enemies that he described as envious of the Kingdom's wealth.

Prince Abdullah bin Musaed, head of the organization, said a comprehensive plan would be set out for young people to take part in programs that protect them from murderous Moslem ideologies.

"We'll organize programs to inculcate moderate Islamic values in the minds of the youth, strengthen their allegiance to the Saudi leadership and nation and spend their time in constructive activities," the prince said.

He said the organization has drafted a plan to improve the Kingdom's participation in regional and international sports events including the Olympic Games. "We have a strategy to prepare Olympic champions."

China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. Pacific Commander vows strong response to N.K. provocations
SEOUL -- The new head of the U.S. Pacific Command reaffirmed Wednesday stern responses to any provocations by the "dangerous and unpredictable" North Korea based upon the steadfast alliance with South Korea.

Adm. Harry Harris, chief of the U.S. Pacific Command, made the pledge during his visit to the South Korean Navy's 2nd Fleet Command in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, some 70 kilometers south of Seoul, where he paid tribute to sailors killed in the North's deadly attack on the South Korean warship Cheonan.

"I believe North Korea is dangerous, it's unpredictable, and it's led by the leader (Kim Jong-un) who is corpulent arrogant. I consider North Korea a rogue nation discredited by the entire world," Harris said, pointing out that Pyongyang has expressed its "willingness to use military provocations to achieve its national goals."

In a saber-rattling move against South Korea and the U.S., the North has continued to build up its asymmetric capabilities and launch provocative actions. Last month alone, the North carried out live-fire drills twice near the Northern Limit Line, the de facto inter-Korean maritime border in the Yellow Sea.

"So I have to tell you that the U.S. remains vigil in the face of North Korea's continued provocations and steadfast in our alliance's commitment to the ROK. It is no accident that the first country that I visited as the Pacific Command commander in the bilateral sense was Korea," he added, referring to South Korea by its official name, the Republic of Korea.

He assumed the command position of the U.S. Pacific Command in May 2015.

Stressing solid bilateral relations and friendship between Seoul and Washington, Harris also said the strong alliance will "allow us together to overcome provocations by North Korea."

Records from government data breach surface on 'darknet,' says expert
[Fox] Government records stolen in a sweeping data breach that was reported last week are popping up for sale on the so-called "darknet," according to a tech firm that monitors the private online network used by criminals and creeps throughout the world.

Credentials to log into the Office of Personnel Management are being offered just days after the announcement the agency's records, including extremely personal information of 4.1 million federal government employees dating back to the 1980s, had been compromised, said Chris Roberts, founder and CTO of the Colorado-based OneWorldLabs (OWL), a search engine that checks the darknet daily for data that could compromise security for its corporate and government clients, including government IDs and passwords.

India will carry out military strikes at any 'place and time', says minister
[DAWN] Following a rare cross-border attack conducted by the Indian Army in Myanmar, Junior Minister for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that based on intelligence "we will carry out surgical strikes at the place and time of our own choosing".

"Western disturbances will also be equally dealt with," the information minister said during a press briefing on Wednesday when asked if attacks could be carried out on the western (Pakistain) border, according to a report published on IBNLive.

The statements came after the minister lauded the Indian Army and Air Force for their operation in Myanmar that killed 20 suspected bandidos bandidos bully boys on Tuesday.

"Our PM ordered hot pursuit in which two camps were completely annihilated. While the army carried out the strike, helicopters were on stand-by," he said.

Khan cited his wife and children's US citizenship as proof, which means he's lying to one side or the other and probably both. He wears a wig, but you probably guessed that. since hair doesn't grow naturally in that shape or texture...
said India should not mistake Pakistain for Myanmar, adding"our armed forces are fully capable of responding to any foreign aggression and Indian leaders should stop daydreaming".

The statement was issued by interior ministry on Wednesday, while reacting to recent statements by Indian politicians -- including that of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Nisar stressed that India's notorious designs might have succeeded in the past, but they will not do so in the future.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran spending $6 bln annually to support Assad regime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Iranian government is reportedly spending billions of dollars yearly to prop up the Syrian regime, according to a spokeswoman for the U.N. special envoy for Syria.

"The Special Envoy has estimated Iran spends $6 billion annually on supporting the Assad regime in Syria. So it's $6 billion not $35 billion," Jessy Chahine, the spokeswoman for de Staffan de Mistura said Monday in an email, Bloomberg reported.

Chahine's claims come in reaction to previous reports from the Christian Science Monitor citing that de Mistura informed last month a think tank in Washington that Iran was spending three times its official military budget to back the Assad regime.

Iran's official military budget is estimated at $35 billion annually.

Other experts, including Nadim Shehadi, the director of the Fares Center for Eastern Mediterranean Studies at Tufts University estimated that the numbers were even higher.

Shehadi said his research showed that in 2012 and 2013 the Islamic Theocratic Republic spent between $14 and $15 billion in both military and economic aid to the Syrian regime.

Iran denies troops deployed in Syria
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iran on Wednesday insisted it has not deployed troops in Syria to strengthen regime forces, denying reports that thousands of foreign fighters have been flown in to help defend Damascus.

Reports on "the military presence of countries friendly to Syria" are "unfounded", foreign ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said at her weekly press briefing.
"Military" isn't the same thing as "Paramilitary."
"Paramilitary" isn't the same thing as "hard boyz"...
...and "hard boyz" probably isn't a suitable description of the nice Afghani and Iraqi Shiite lads getting a weekly paycheck to carry a gun on that battlefield after a few weeks of very basic training ("Don't bother with jumping jacks and push-ups, General, they can't learn that in less than six months. Concentrate on gun loading and pointing the gun in the direction of the enemy while they shoot with their eyes closed.")
"The Syrian government and people have the capacity to resist and will continue to do so", said Afkham, whose country provides Damascus with political and financial support as well as military advisers for the armed forces.

Tehran has always denied having troops on the ground in Syria's four-year-old conflict.

On June 3, a Syrian security source told AFP that thousands of Iranian and Iraqi fighters have been deployed in Syria to bolster the defences of Damascus and its surroundings.

"Around 7,000 Iranian and Iraqi fighters have arrived in Syria over the past few weeks and their first priority is the defence of the capital. The larger contingent is Iraqi," the source said on condition of anonymity.

"The goal is to reach 10,000 men to support the Syrian army and pro-government militias," he added.

Head of Druze minority calls on Sweida's youth to join army
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Hikmat al-Hijri, Head of Druze sect in Syria has responded to Basher al-Assad's call to recruit youth in army, by issuing a statement demanding all youth, who have not join the army yet, to go to the military conscription centres and join the Syrian Army.
The Druze might want to let that invitation pass.
The statement titled "National Appeal" has been signed and stamped by al-Hijri stamp as 'Sheikh al-Aqel' od Syria's Druze in their stronghold in Sweida province.

He encouraged youth to fulfil the national duty by joining the Syrian regime forces to defend their country and to stay within the city of Sweida.

Syrian regime promised Druze and people of Sweida to keep their sons away from fighting areas, but that was not the truth, as many men from Sweida were killed in fighting and battles away from their cities and have no interest or benefits from.

Al-Hijri's appeal coincided with the regime's deterioration in many fronts in Syria especially Horan as it planning to withdraw from Dara'a leaving it for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
's (ISIS) to control.

Moreover, the Druze Sheikh's appeal comes as a part of the Syrian regime's campaign to recruit as many youth as possible in army and its forces, to cover the losses in soldiers and officers of the regime's army besides fighters, using money as an incentive.

Opposition's Khoja meets Syria rebel commanders in Amman
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] A well-informed source said leader of key Syrian opposition, the National Coalition, has met with Zahran Alloush, Jaish al-Islam's
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. Amman's secret meeting was organized by the Coalition in step to form a common ground between political and armed opposition as well as to build trust ties, the source said.

Isis's dirty bomb: Jihadists have seized 'enough radioactive material to build their first WMD'
[INDEPENDENT.CO.UK] The Isis bad boy group has seized enough radioactive material from government facilities to suggest it has the capacity to build a large and devastating "dirty" bomb, according to Australian intelligence reports.

Isis declared its ambition to develop weapons of mass destruction in the most recent edition of its propaganda magazine Dabiq, and Indian defence officials have previously warned of the possibility the Lions of Islam could acquire a nuclear weapon from Pakistain.

According to the Australian foreign minister, Julie Bishop, NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
has expressed deep concerns about the materials seized by Isis from research centres and hospitals that would normally only be available to governments.

#1  Militarily, these weapons are useless but if released in a Western city the cost would be enormous.

#2  Let's say that they have a dirty bomb and use said DB in a largish city like Rome or Athens or Paris.

What do you think the response of the squishy socialist left in the EU would do? What would they propose?

#3  Back before I discovered Scientific American had a terminal case of Bush Derangement Syndrome, I read an article about the effects of a dirty bomb in Manhattan. Depending on the isotopes, some pretty expensive real estate would be uninhabitable for quite a few years.

But the deaths from the radioactive release would pale compared to the carnage from the panic.

I bet we'd find out how many liberal New Yorkers owned firearms!
