Gwyneth Paltrow on Obama: It Would Be Wonderful if We Were Able to Give This Man All of the Power That He Needs
[THEBLAZE] Actress Gwyneth Paltrow lavished praise on President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
Thursday night during a Democratic National Committee fundraiser that took place at her Los Angeles home.

Speaking at the event, which had tickets starting at a minimum of $1,000 for the reception and $15,000 for the dinner, Paltrow introduced the president by saying, I am one of your biggest fans, if not the biggest.

The famous actress, joined by her children, continued to shower Obama with compliments.

According to the White House pool report, she said: It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass.

#4  The most righteous on-line rant aimed at this stupid, sycophantic tw*t that I have seen was by commenter Drumwaster at Protein Wisdom. It was so good I put it on my own website, in all it's glory.

A taste - You are an example of everything that is wrong with Hollywood and none of which is right with this country. You are the spoiled brat scion of worthless parents who brought you up to believe that Fame = Wisdom, and have surrounded yourself with people who believe the same thing. That is no way to go through life, dearie.

Many regular, hard-working people don't have time for such. Unfortunately, there are a fair number of people in our society who go ga-ga nuts over celebs, sports stars, and a dipwad empty-suited and empty-headed Prez. Many are as vapid as those whom they worship.

Army War College revokes Sen. John Walsh's degree after plagiarism finding
[FOXNEWS] The U.S. Army War College revoked Democratic Sen. John Walsh's master's degree after an investigation completed Friday concluded he plagiarized a research paper required to graduate, a college spokeswoman said.

The Carlisle, Pennsylvania, college assigned an academic review board to the probe in August after The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
published a story showing Walsh borrowed heavily from other sources for the paper he wrote in 2007.

Walsh was pursuing a Master of Strategic Studies degree at age 47, a year before he became Montana's adjutant general overseeing the state National Guard.

The board took less than a day to hear the case and make its findings Aug. 22, but the process of appeal and review wasn't completed until Friday.

"The board found that then Colonel John Walsh did commit the offense of plagiarism and thus his Master's Degree and status as graduate of the U.S. Army War College should be revoked," War College spokeswoman Carol Kerr said in a statement.

#1  But, but, but all those forms he signed indicated the work submitted was..... all his own? Potential DEROG (derogatory information/false statements) submitted to the Central Clearance Facility (CCF) and subsequent impact on Security Clearance periodic re-investigations? And his officer Officer Record Brief (ORB), will it be corrected via an 'Army Board For Correction of Military Records' (ABCMR)? And, and, and subsequent promotions based on MILED (military education)? Are promotion board results to be invalidated? What about military pay/military retirement pay based on promotion to the grade of whatever?

Department of the Army General Officer Management Office (GOMO)..... crickets, just crickets ?

#3  Shades of SGT Bowe Bergdahl. Don't fok'n tell me an AR 15-6 investigation wasn't initiated immediately upon 'serious incident' initial reporting and disclosure. The senior leadership [and I use the term loosely] is complicit.

Walsh is not only guilty of plagiarism, but of being lazy, arrogant, and stupid as well.

Obama: You Can't Get Ebola 'Sitting Next to Someone on a Bus;' CDC: 'Avoid Public Transportation'
[CNSNEWS] Speaking in a video message to residents of West African countries currently experiencing outbreaks of Ebola, President Barack Obama dispensed advice on how residents can avoid the disease, including:"You cannot get it through casual contact like sitting next to someone on a bus."

At the same time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is advising Americans who travel to the Ebola-stricken nations to "avoid public transportation."

#2  Quaint little town with a lovely flower festival. Drug needles lying about and curb urination/defecation within the city limits was frowned upon for good reason. Bad for public health, tourism, and money making as you might expect. The helpful sign is long gone however.
Posted by: Besoeker || 10/11/2014 4:26 Comments || Top||

#3  Obama is acting recklessly making these apodictic statements about probabilistic events when the probabilities aren't really known.

Some serious pathogens, like HIV can't spread through casual contact. Others, like aggressive flu can.

From what we know Ebola lies somewhere in between these extremes. Ebola is classified as a pathogen requiring Biosafety Level 4-equivalent containment for a good reason.

Prior to 2014 all Ebola flareups started and ended in tropical, rural third world central and eastern Africa.

The dynamics, mechanisms and associated probabilities of an Ebola outbreak in temperate, urban, industrial first world regions are unknown because it has never happened and hopefully never will happen.

#4  Liberian taxis are dirty (and usually mechanically unsound) but they are the only public transportation there. That makes them a vector for transmitting disease. Liberia is hot, everybody sweats; and if somebody gets sick in a taxi it is really really hard to clean up because people don't have a lot of cleaning supplies available, and there isn't much room in a taxi to store them. No comfy Checker cabs these; they're minivans and pickups with benches installed to squeeze as many people and as much luggage as possible.

US public transportation has air conditioning, so that reduces the risk from sweat. During rush hour, people may be packed in close enough to be at risk from sweat; although we usually manage to establish at least an inch or two of personal space (at least I did, when riding the Chicago El years ago; but I was short and skinny then).

#8  Still can't make sense out of this CDC recommendation:
"CDC urges all US residents to avoid nonessential travel to Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone because of unprecedented outbreaks of Ebola in those countries."
But no urgings to avoid nonessential travel from Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone to the US?

"Before your trip check your health insurance plan and benefits to learn what is covered in the event that you become ill. CDC recommends that anyone traveling to countries where outbreaks of Ebola are occurring have full coverage, including coverage for emergency medical evacuation."

BUT
Oct 11 (Reuters) - Leading companies offering medical evacuation services are balking at flying Ebola patients out of West Africa for treatment abroad as the cost and the complexities of the deadly epidemic grow.

Several airlines have cut flights to the region and there are reports of countries not allowing air ambulances to make refueling stops, further complicating the so-called medevac option many companies provide for staffers in risky regions.

Wheelchair ad roils Texas gov. race
[POLITICO] Texas state Sen. Wendy Davisâ latest television ad directly references gubernatorial rival Greg Abbottâs partial paralysis â including the image of an empty wheelchair â to charge the Republican with hypocrisy.

The spot says Abbott filed a lawsuit following the accident that led to his paralysis, but then worked to limit liability to other accident victims. The Abbott campaign calls the ad a âhistoric low.â

Denver Post endorses Cory Gardner
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] The Denver Post editorial board endorsed Cory Gardner for Senate, a switch from its stance six years ago.

In the Friday endorsement, the newspaper wrote that Gardner, a Republican, can offer "fresh leadership, energy and ideas" to a dysfunctional Congress.

Gardner is in a tight race with Democratic incumbent Mark Udall, who has been in office since 2009 and was endorsed by the Denver Post during his 2008 Senate campaign.

But the paper took issue with Udall's current campaign, which has focused heavily on Gardner's support for personhood legislation that would restrict abortion.

"Udall is trying to frighten voters rather than inspire them with a hopeful vision. His obnoxious one-issue campaign is an insult to those he seeks to convince," the editorial board said.
