To be accepted, a novel scientific theory must fit all the available data.

Estimates can't be computed on speculations, but it's way to early to assess the correct mortality rate (and due to mutations this will change over time anyway).

Italy's death rate stands at 4% which is high.
Germany's death rate is 0% as of today. One person is reported to be in a critical condition, so if he dies that would bring the rate to less than 0.2 %, but of course low numbers are misleading.

Unreported cases certainly exist, but nobody knows how high they are, and otoh we don't know how many people who are believed to have died from the flu or pneumonia actually had the corona virus.

Only hard numbers count and they will change.

Italy's numbers are alarming. Almost as many people died from corona as people in Germany have died from influenza (since October).
