#2 I would dare distinguish between the statues erected by a foreign conqueror who has been ejected one way or another, and removal of a nation's own monuments. Nobody seems to object to the destruction of Soviet monuments in Poland or Bulgaria (well, maybe the Russians do, but nobody else).
