#6 Shows how long its been since hard working people getting dirty on their job were a common sight.

Grease stained, dust covered (coal or otherwise) "wretches", aka deplorables, are not tolerable in polite company.

Attitudes as this one displayed makes me want to reach for a tar bucket and pillow.

#8 Some years back I heard a little furore when a library decided to chuck the Mary Poppins series. Somebody investigated, and found that none of the books had been checked out in something like 20 years. The reporter read one, and concluded that there was a reason for the lack of interest.

I read them ages ago. The movie was more fun. The books--meh.

The professor can't tell the difference between a book and a movie loosely based on it.
