#1 The Central Asian countries have a substantial Russian minority from the Soviet era, and are in the process of acquiring a substantial Chinese minority because of long and porous borders (perhaps manned by bribable border guards), combined with rapidly expanding trade ties. Accepting Russias land grab in Georgia would be to legitimate what Russia and China might do in these Central Asian countries in the future.

It is good that the russians are being rebuffed on all fronts in the diplomatic war.

It begs the question: "What in hell were they thinking?"

Is there something else going on that this is a cover for?
