#3 If we can't remember the past, how will we know when we're about to repeat it as farce? Seriously though, I have some memory formation issues, and can tell you from personal experience that while forgetting some details is sometimes ok, lost memories are losses of a bit of the self. The desirable thing is to maintain memory while losing the immediacy, the emotionality, of it, when the memories are very bad.
