#2 Whoa, Nellie! That's gonna show 'em. After all, we haven't done any business with Iran in how many decades?

#3 Perhaps, Zenster. Recall, we've been putting pressure on non-US banks and such that do business both with Iran and in the U.S., and now Iran is having real difficulties getting the credit necessary for international purchasing transactions. Hence the price rises for gasoline, the suggestion to reinstate temporary marriages (the young lads are less likely to riot and overthrow the old mullahs if at least one need is satisfied) and the summary eviction of Afghan refugees who've mostly been there since the Soviet invasion on the honourable President Carter's watch. And, of course, the increasingly hysterical predictions that the Hidden Mahdi will emerge from his well and Allah will peer down from his paradise to summarily pitch all opponents into Hell. Despite everything, Iran still has a somewhat open society, and the mullahs can feel their many and varied problems all coming to a head (we can hope some of that is due to broad-shouldered ghosts in mufti who feel as if they'd be very happy in crisply ironed uniforms and highly polished shoes).

Not directly. But there are US-based corporations with subsidiaries elsewhere in the world. And the Euros and Asians buy US components, have joint ventures with US companies and have US subsidiaries of their own.

#6 Don't get me wrong, whatever hurts Iran is a good thing, but I also think we all know that Iraq proved to us just how effective economic sanctions are against rogue regimes. There is only thing that will stop Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons and that is catastrophic disassembly of the apparatus needed for doing so. As with all of Islam, religious fanaticism trumps reason and logic at every turn. It remains cold consolation that the subpar scientists and technicians brought forth out of Iranian zealotry most likely hampers their progress.

One can only speculate as to exactly how many of Iran's nuclear research staff were educated here in America. Just another of many reasons why higher education must be denied to all foreign born Muslims. Eventually, we must also consider the need to deny American Muslim citizens access to advanced instruction and training in such dual use fields of learning as high energy physics, chemistry and microbiology. As Srdja Trifkovic points out in his "Realist Strategy":
6. New legislation should treat a resident alien’s or prospective visitor’s known or suspected adherence to an Islamic world outlook as excludable – on political, rather than “religious” grounds. The broad model is provided by the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act (INA, the McCarran-Walter Act). It is possible that the “affiliation” in this clause will affect a number of people who do not actively identify with the goals and methods of the Jihadist core. That may be unfortunate but it is inevitable. Personal assurances by individuals thus affected cannot be taken at face value: Islam not only allows, but mandates lying to “infidels” in order to gain political or any other advantage (i.e. Taqiyya, the concealment of one’s Islamic beliefs to non-Muslims). The problem is well known to INS officials: attitudes of Muslims who apply for U.S. visas or asylum often change once their status in America is secure. When applying they complain about the lack of freedom in their native country. When they gain permanent residence, let alone citizenship, they often turn against their host nation and praise the virtues of an Islamic state. In addition, even “lapsed” Muslims are at permanent risk of going back to their roots, as many Western-born youths are doing.
[emphasis added]

We no longer have the luxury of pretending that America's wealth of knowledge will not be turned against us by thankless Muslims who are here only to empower Islam and overthrow the rule Constitutional law by force.

#7 Zenster, if only we had 100 senators with half your brain and all of your awareness, we'd be fine.
