#1 We'll see. She has to form a coalition with the SPD or the Greens. Both want to raise taxes.

#3 Germans are funny that way. They actually run the math, unlike our American pols who always snivel "I was told there would be no math..." If raising taxes is bad for the economy it's better than even money taxes wont go up in Germany. Our politicans draw a sharp breath with a hand over their mouths...

#4 Not sure the Greens are useful partners. Greenie stock is falling all over the world. They just got spanked in Australia after their carbon tax monkey-wrenched the economy. The Euros all seem to be scaling back on Green nonsense as the numbers run out.

You can pretend for a while, but math always wins in the end.

#5 In 2009 Merkel's conservative coalition won. The leftist parties were a minority in parliament.

In 2013 the leftists have won a majority of seats in parliament, even though they lost about 1 million votes between 2009 and 2013 (overall participation was a bit higher in 2013).

The overall majority of voters voted for conservative/liberal parties but 9.5% of voters are not represented in parliament and thus don't count politically.

Lib/Cons(51%) lost and the leftists (43%) won. They just haven't realized it yet.
