#1 The problem is that as soon as you declare a free speech space, it gets flooded with people who were banned for good reasons. The mentally ill ranters, the political weirdos, TERF feminists. These freaks scare off the normal people any site needs to be successful. The normies take one look at the content on the front page and close the tab, horrified.
