#2 Nah. Effective communication would be, but since we're totally absent from the non-English speaking Muslim world, they're free to tell whatever lies they want. The Muslims in England fully, truly believe with all their hearts that they are unfairly under attack, and that imperialist armies are invading their countries. Why shouldn't they believe this, when nobody is saying otherwise!

#9 Actually, Glenmore, I remember what it was like in this country in 1969 when vets came home. People frequently called vets baby killers and murderers and war criminals. I remember when Mayor John Lindsay of New York City spoke to great applause saying that the true heroes of the Viet Nam war were all in Sweeden and Canada.

#11 Btw, this reaction by the crowd is hardly conceivable in France (though, to be honest, I could see the families of the troops reacting if there was such a demo during an homecoming ceremony); don't know if those people are random civilians, counter-demonstrators, or related to the troops being harassed, but patriotism and any kind of love for the army has been basically stamped out from the french national psyche, over the last 40 years; it is just not done anymore.

#12 Sgt. D. T., I too remember the 1969 reactions. So far I have seen very little of such crappy behavior from people this time - but I could see it changing if A'stan becomes a mess like Vietnam (and I fear it might.)
