The free press is about the open flow of information, good or bad, but the flow. It's not about the corrupt institution that calls itself the 'press' which suppresses, obstructs, manufacturers and manipulates the flow of information.

The state wants control of everything. "Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state"
