...There is a wonderful story about Ms. Oliver's brief appearance on Trek that still makes me smile fifty-something years later.
Seems when they got the first rushes back of her performance as the green Orion slave girl,..she came out as pink as the day she'd been born. The producers told the makeup people, who doubled down on their efforts.
A few hours later...she's pink again.
Now they were a bit mystified - this was costing time and money as well as taking a toll on Ms. Oliver, so they painted her up again and put a green filter on the camera just to be on the safe side. And one of the producers decided to follow the film through the developing process to see if something was wrong there.
Sure enough, they discovered an elderly gentleman back in the processing lab shop looked at the film, muttered to himself, "My God, that girl's GREEN again.." and prepared to develop the film so she'd come out a nice, normal pink. Apparently he couldn't quite get his head around the concept of green Orion slave girls.

Dr. Anthony Fauci still insists it’s too early to say the pandemic is waning due to the contagious but mild Omicron variant.
Speaking online at the World Economic Forum, Fauci was asked if the virus that causes COVID-19 would finally become endemic in 2022. He responded by saying it’s too early to tell and that the world still appears to be in phase one of a five-phase pandemic, The New York Times reported.
"Dr. Fauci also said that the world is still in the first of what he considered to be the five phases of the pandemic. The first is the ’truly pandemic’ phase, ’where the whole world is really very negatively impacted,’ followed by deceleration, control, elimination and eradication," The Times reported.
Fauci added that the only infectious human disease to ever be eradicated was smallpox but said, "That’s not going to happen with this virus."
Further, Fauci insisted that countries needed to reach phase two, or the "control" phase, to make the virus a "non-disruptive presence" in society. When this happens, he said, the virus could be considered endemic, likening it to the rhinovirus and certain other upper respiratory infections.
Fauci also said during the event that since the Omicron variant is more contagious but causes less severe symptoms, it could help spread collective immunity, but insisted "it is an open question as to whether or not Omicron is going to be the live virus vaccination that everyone is hoping for, because you have such a great deal of variability with new variants emerging."
"I would hope that that’s the case," Fauci added, "but that would only be the case if we don’t get another variant that eludes the immune response."
Fauci cautioned that the future of the pandemic is still unknown, saying, "The answer is: We do not know."
Fauci has become a polarizing figure during the pandemic, from regularly changing his stance on various aspects of the pandemic such as masks and isolation times, to consistently insisting we are hardly better off than we were in March 2020.
As The Daily Wire reported, the frustrations with Fauci could come to a head if Republicans win back the House in 2022. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo that he would investigate Fauci should Republicans retake the lower chamber.
"If the American people put us back in charge, we are definitely going to do this because we now know without a doubt that Dr. Fauci knew on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 that this thing came from a lab," Jordan said. "The top scientists in the country were saying it came from a lab. One scientist says we got the notes now from the conference call on February 1st. One scientist says, ’I don’t see how this can happen in nature, but it would be easy to do in a lab.’"
"And yet just in a matter of days, they changed their position, write the article that appears in Nature of Medicine Magazine, which then gets cited in the now famous letter in The Lancet, which became the gospel for the fact that Fauci can go out and tell people it didn’t come from a lab when in fact they knew it did," Jordan continued. "The interesting thing is. We point this out. We just learned this last week, the two doctors who were most adamant that this thing came from a lab early on: one is Dr. Kristian Anderson. On Jan. 31, 2020, he says this to Dr. Fauci in an email: ’Virus looks engineered. Virus not consistent with evolutionary theory.’ So, he knew it came from a lab."

Robin Sage has been around decades. It is pretty much the final exam for the Special Warfare School for incoming special forces troops. It puts into practice for them on how to support guerilla units to overthrow a government the US doesn't like.

[NBC] Scientists are piecing together why some people lose their sense of smell after contracting Covid-19.
A study published Monday in the journal Nature Genetics identified a genetic risk factor associated with the loss of smell after a Covid infection, a discovery that brings experts closer to understanding the perplexing pattern and may point the way toward much-needed treatments.
Six months after contracting Covid, as many as 1.6 million people in the United States are still unable to smell or have experienced a change in their ability to smell. The precise cause of sensory loss related to Covid is not known, but scientists do think it stems from damage to infected cells in a part of the nose called the olfactory epithelium. These cells protect olfactory neurons, which help humans smell.
"How we get from infection to smell loss remains unclear," said Dr. Justin Turner, an associate professor of otolaryngology at Vanderbilt University who was not a part of the study.
"Early data suggests that supporting cells of the olfactory epithelium are the ones mostly being infected by the virus, and presumably this leads to the death of the neurons themselves," he said. "But we don’t really, really know why and when that happens, and why it seems to preferentially happen in certain individuals."

Akram ranted, prior to his travel to the U.S, that he wished he had died in the 9/11 terror attacks. A Paleostinian man was rubbed out as he attempted to stab soldiers at a bus stop in the central West Bank on Monday, the Israel Defense Forces said.
No Israeli injuries were reported.
"The assailant got out of a car, armed with a knife, and tried to stab an IDF soldier," the military said.
The soldier shot up the man, killing him, according to the IDF. The knife was recovered at the scene.
Troops launched a search to find the car that transported the assailant to the scene, setting up roadblocks in the area. A short while later, the driver of the vehicle turned himself in to Israeli security forces, the Defense Ministry’s Civil Administration said.
Video footage from the scene showed the alleged assailant lying on the ground but moving, after he was shot, next to a bus stop full of soldiers near the Gush Etzion Junction.
The assailant was identified by the Paleostinian Authority as Faleh Mousa Shakir Jaradat, from the village of Seir near Hebron. The name of the driver was not immediately released.
The soldiers guarding the bus stop were reservists, who were deployed to the area last week.
The attempted attack came amid a general lull in attacks by Paleostinians against Israeli soldiers and civilians in the West Bank, following a rise in violence at the end of last year.

WHAT ARE ZEMMOUR'S PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS?
Zemmour has already been previously convicted of incitement to racial hatred after saying discrimination against Black and Arab people was justified. That 2010 conviction was followed by one in 2016 of incitement to religious hatred for comments he made targeting Islam.
He has also been tried in other cases in which he was acquitted.
Zemmour is set to go on appeal trial on Thursday on a charge of "contesting crimes against humanity" — a crime under French law.
The charges stem from a 2019 television debate in which Zemmour claimed that Marshal Philippe Petain, head of the collaborationist Vichy government during World War II, saved La Belle France's Jews from the Holocaust.
He was acquitted on the charge in 2021, on the basis that he made the comments in the heat of the moment.
Prosecutors are expected to cite similar remarks Zemmour has made in recent months to back their case that the acquittal should be overturned.

[Rudaw] Over 90 percent of the migrants colonists in Lithuania are from the Kurdistan Region, the Lithuanian foreign minister told Rudaw on Monday, while adding that the government has initiated a program to subsidize the migrants colonists voluntary return home.
"Now we have a bit more than 2000 people from Iraq currently in Lithuania," Gabrielius Landsbergis told Rudaw’s Shaho Amin in an interview, adding that the return of the migrants colonists is completely voluntary.
"The government has initiated a special program where we are offering a subside of 1000 euros for people to return. Obviously we are paying for their ticket or the whole flight," he said, adding that around 90 percent of Iraqi migrants colonists in the country are from the Kurdistan Region.
Landsbergis arrived in Erbil on Monday, following his visit to Baghdad where he met with his counterpart Fuad Hussein and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
He was received by the Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani upon his arrival to the Kurdish capital. Landsbergis later met with the Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

[Rudaw] A Kurdish rights group has revealed that a former member of The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire... -backed militia group in Syria, accused of committing violations against Kurds in Afrin city, is seeking asylum in Germany.
Human Rights Organisation - Afrin said in a statement on Sunday that Bashar Abu Saleh, who had served as a member of Turkey-backed Levant Front (Jabhat al-Shamiyah) in Afrin city for years, arrived in Germany about a year ago with the hope of obtaining residency.
He is accused by Kurds from Afrin of "carrying out various brutal human rights ...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty... violations against Kurdish villagers while serving under the commander of his ringleader, Ahmed Dibo, nicknamed Abu Asaad," the rights group said in the statement.
"He was involved in torturing and kidnapping local civilians for ransom and in the appropriation of locals' homes and property, imposing royalties, cutting down thousands of fruitful and forest trees owned by displaced Kurds," it added.
Lamaan Khalil, a member of the rights organization, which heavily covers violations by Turkey-backed gangs in Afrin but is based in nearby Shahba, told Rudaw’s Dilbxwin Dara late Monday that they have been closely monitoring the actions and movements of Abu Saleh.
She said that Abu Saleh served as a holy warrior in Afrin for two years but later moved to Turkey. After a while he returned to Afrin but did not stay long, deciding to migrate to Germany through Turkey. Khalil added that the former holy warrior used to capture and beat Kurds, demanding ransom.
Khalil named two of his victims: Gando Wahid Qambar and Mohammed Sido. The former was "captured and tortured. He was asked to pay $1,000 or else they would accuse him of being affiliated to the Autonomous Administration," she told Rudaw, adding that the same thing happened to Sido.
Afrin was occupied by Turkey and its Syrian proxies in March 2018 after these forces launched a military campaign against Kurdish forces.
Abu Saleh currently stays in a refugee camp in Germany’s Hamm city, seeking residency, according to Khalil.
The Kurdish rights group has not filed any lawsuit against Abu Saleh yet as all victims are in Syria, especially in Afrin and Shahba. "They are willing to bear witness. They have relatives in Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... but we have heard that they should bear their witness through videos," Khalil said.
She said if the witnesses were present in Germany the legal work against him "would be very easy."

[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, Director of Moral Affairs in the Libyan National Army (LNA), said more than 1,000 migrants were deported from Libya to Niger.
In a press briefing, Al-Mahjoub noted that work is being done to end the phenomenon of “illegal” migration in the North-African country.
He pointed out to the “qualitative operations” of the armed forces in the southern region of the country aim to combat “illegal” migration and smuggling.
Last week, LNA forces started a wide and comprehensive military operation in the southern regions to impose security, said Commander of Southern Operations and Commander of the Sabha Military Region, Major General Al-Mabrouk Sahban.
He added that, the first phase of the military operation targets all violators in terms of random construction, drug trafficking, smuggling, “illegal” migration and the spread of armed groups.
The second phase targets illegal fuel stations, which distribute smuggled fuel at high prices. The phase will not start until after fuel is available at all stations licensed by the Libyan state.
“Distributing fuel to the Sabha oil depot is unfair due to the lack of adequate control over the distribution stations, in addition to the existence of a major manipulation involving the distribution stations and several parties,” Sahban said, stressing that there are efforts by the LNA aimed at delivering fuel to all Libyans.
In an interview with Al-Ain News, he added that LNA forces are showing great interest in the Murzuq Basin areas, where several meetings have been held for a comprehensive settlement between the parties of the city.

[NYPOST] Americans’ political preferences shifted dramatically over 2021, swinging from a nine percentage-point lead for Democrats at the beginning of the year to ending with a five-point advantage for Republicans, according to a poll released Monday. In the first quarter of 2021, 49 percent of Americans said they identified as a Democrat or leaned Democratic, while 40 percent identified as Republican or leaned Republican, according to a Gallup survey.
The Democrats’ lead over the GOP was the highest since the fourth quarter of 2012.
The percentage for Democrats remained unchanged at 49 percent going into the second quarter, but the percentage for Republicans ticked up three percentage points.
Then in the third quarter, Republicans topped Democrats — 45 percent to 44 percent — a trend that continued through the final three months of 2021.

Earlier this month, the General Command of the Libyan National Army (LNA) stated that Prime Minister Dbaiba had suspended their salaries.
In a statement, it said that Dbaiba had suspended the paycheques of LNA forces, "while he and his family spent 20 billion dinars on developing corruption, instead of working to improve the lives of citizens."
The statement added that LNA forces are protecting the oil facilities, whose revenues amounted to 103 billion dinars in 2021, "despite that, Dbaiba and his family rewarded us by cutting salaries." It added that suspending the salaries means "cutting off half a million people, including soldiers’ families, and their children from their lives."
"We found ourselves obliged to borrow to meet for the soldiers’ daily needs," the statement added.

This came after a report was received that three people had been killed on the farm, which has become known as the "death farm, according to the statement.
Last March, UNICEF said that estimates indicate that there are more than 500,000 people at risk in Libya due to war remnants. This includes 63,000 displaced people, 123,000 people who have returned to the areas from which they were displaced, 145,000 residents, and 175,000 migrants colonists.
In December 2021, police found large quantities of ammunition and explosives hidden inside a house. This came after a landmine went kaboom!, killed six children and maimed two others from the same family.
The explosives were hidden in the house of a "bandit," the Interior Ministry said in a statement. It added that ammunition and explosives were found in cooperation with the Department of Security and Safety of al-Zawiya.
"These munitions and explosives were found after information was received about the suspicious house. This joint cooperation was between the Jafara Security Directorate, the Internal Security Office of Aziziyah, and al-Amiriya Square," the statement concluded.

[An Nahar] Dozens of Lebanese, including families of Beirut port explosion victims, rallied Monday outside the Justice Palace in support of Judge Tarek Bitar after he was forced to suspend his work as a lead investigator into the Beirut port blast.Protesters held portraits of their loved ones who died in the earth-shattering kaboom.

[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudanese security forces killed seven protesters in fresh anti-coup demonstrations on Monday triggering calls for civilian disobedience nearly three months after the military takeover.
To disperse protesters, the security forces now use lethal tactics and military weapons including machine guns and heavy machine guns such as Ddhk or Dushka and armoured vehicles.
The pro-democracy Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCDD), which deploys medical emergency teams during the protests, said the security forces killed seven protesters.
The medical group added that about a hundred others are maimed by bullets and other weapons.
Monday’s casualties bring to 71 the corpse count of protesters killed after the coup of October 25.
The anti-coup demonstrations took place in Khartoum State, and Wad Madani of al-Jazeera State as well as other towns in several states.
During the past weeks, the Sovereign Council pledged to investigate the killing of protesters, the attacks on hospitals and medical personnel as well as media offices.
On Monday, the Sovereign Council held a meeting to discuss the security situation with the participation of its three members of the signatory groups.
After the meeting, the military-led collegial body issued a statement praising the "cleverness of the security forces". The council added they showed restraint and dealt wisely with protesters to ensure the protection of civilians.
The Council further regretted the chaos and violence by protesters which violate the right to peaceful demonstration, further stressed the statement.
The use of excessive violence against protesters raised condemnations by trade unions and professional groups from different sectors.
For its part, the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) called for a two-day general strike in response to the bloody crackdown on protesters on Tuesday and Wednesday.

[NPASYRIA] Russia is trying its best to strengthen the Syrian government to reassert its control over southern Syria most notably Daraa governorate, the birthplace of the protests against the Syrian government.
Russia helped to disband all of the military formations under the opposition factions, attached them with the settlement agreement and then with the Syrian government forces. Accordingly, Russia transferred the subordination of the Eighth Brigade, which was affiliated with the Fifth Corps, to the Military Intelligence of the Syrian government, specifically to 265 Branch located in Damascus.
Sources close to the Eighth Brigade told North Press that Russia asked the leader of the Eighth Brigade to send his fighters to fight alongside the government forces in its battles against the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... Organization (ISIS) in the Syrian Desert as the government forces was reported to have heavy loses.
The sources quoted the Eighth Brigade leadership as saying the leadership refused to engage its fighters in the fight in the Syrian Desert adding the forces only perform service in Daraa governorate and in Salma military camp in Latakia governorate.
As’ad Awad al-Zo’ebi, a military expert and an analyst, told North Press that Russia desperately need to eliminate the Eighth Brigade. If the Eighth Brigade goes to fight in the Syrian Desert, Russia will get rid of it as well as of ISIS. And if it refused or join Iranian-backed militias, this will be a pretext to arrest its fighters by the security forces.
The Eighth Brigade refused to join the fight in the Syrian Desert. However, if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well... there is a possibility that some fighters within the Brigade are obliged to go; those who are stranded. They cannot protect themselves because they are wanted by the Syrian government forces which will send them to the compulsory army service and reserve, al-Zo’ebi said.
Al-Zo’ebi pointed out that if the Eighth Brigade refused the Russian orders, the leaders of the Brigade might be assassinated the same way previous leaders were murdered. This means they have no choice or some of them might evade.
Concerning the probable scenario, al-Zo’ebi said lifting the Russian cover from the Brigade completely and make it subordinate to the Syrian government forces to "barter the fighters" will probably assign them to fight their blood brothers in Daraa or to be mercenaries to fight outside Syria. All possibilities are open.
Al-Zo’ebi stressed that the goal of all the pressures practiced on the Eighth Brigade is to eliminate every name or presence related to it in Daraa and end its continuation as one military formation.
A fighter of the Eighth Brigade, on condition not to disclose his name, told North Press that they have not earned their salaries since April 2021.
"The fighters are stick to fight alongside the Brigade in order to protect themselves and their families from being arrested by the Syrian government forces," the fighter said.
The Syrian government forces asked fighters of the Eighth Brigade to join the settlement agreement kicked off in early September 2021.
The government forces asked the fighters to hand over their personal guns, but leaders of the Eighth Brigade refused then. So, the Russian Military Police intervened and asked fighters of the Brigade to hand over their personal guns to the leaders of the Brigade in Busra al-Sham in the eastern countryside of Daraa and the fighters agreed to do so.

[An Nahar] Wildlife rehabilitators are decontaminating dozens of alligators, brushing their pointy teeth and scrubbing their scaly hides in the weeks after a pipeline rupture dumped 300,000 gallons (1.1 million liters) of diesel fuel into a New Orleans area wetland.
Diesel poured into the area outside the New Orleans suburb of Chalmette on Dec. 27 after a severely corroded pipeline broke, according to federal records.
Seventy-eight alligators have since been rescued, and 33 of them had been cleaned and released by Friday into a national wildlife refuge located in New Orleans and about 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the spill site in St. Bernard Gay Pareeh, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.
Cleaning a six-foot-long (2-meter) alligator on Thursday required eight people: four holders, two scrubbers, one person with a hose for hot-water rinses and one to change the wash water, said Laura Carver, who became the department's oil spill coordinator in February 2010, less than three months before a massive BP oil spill off Louisiana in the Gulf.
Carver said the impact of December's diesel spill on wildlife was relatively high compared to most spills in Louisiana.
Rehabilitating that many alligators at once "is a new one for us," Carver said.
She said a hard piece of wood "almost like a really old-fashioned mop handle" is used to hold the alligator's jaw open while its teeth are scrubbed.

Something we see over and over again here at the 'Burg is that the initial reports about any event are... noisy. Fog of war, bad reporting, deliberately misleading statements and general hysteria. There is a reason for the 24 hour rule.
In this case, the new DA fired a bunch of people. Initial hysteria said it was entire departments. Later reports suggested the targeting was more specific. I would expect more 'progressive' departures in the near future when the writing on the wall becomes clear.

Prior to these incidents, there were scores of incidents of assassinations. In addition to this Punjab has its own drug problem and Pakistain on the other hand drops off arms and ammunition in the state with the help of drones.

[OneIndia] The National Investigation Agency has begun its probe in coordination with authorities in Bangladesh to unearth the larger conspiracy by Pakistain to pump fake currency into India.
Arpan Saha, the NIA's inspector posted at the Guwahati Branch office is the Chief Investigating Officer.
The probe was ordered last month by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the NIA Act of 2008.
While it was always clear that the ISI was behind pumping fake currency into India, it became even more clearer following the arrest of two fake currency smugglers Fatema Akthar Aapi and her associate Sk Md Taleb. They were arrested by the Bangladesh police in November 2021 and during their questioning they revealed the role being played by the ISI in the racket.
In this context it would be interesting to note how the ISI has over the years used fake currency as a means to destabilise the Indian economy and also use the proceeds from the racket to fund terror acts in India.
Among the many revelations that David Headley linked to the Mumbai 26/11 terror attack made, one was relating to fake currency. He said during his deposition that he had received fake Indian currency from an ISI official Major Iqbal.
Major Iqbal is part of the ISI and he was David Headley's handler during the 26/11 Mumbai attack. This makes it very clear that the Pakistain establishment is directly involved in the circulation of fake currency in India.
Fake Indian currency produced in Pakistain is a major money spinner. There is fake Indian currency to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore that is pumped into India every year. While India has repeatedly said that it is the Pakistain's ISI which criminal masterminds this racket there has always been an obvious denial.
However, women are made to be loved, not understood... what Headley said does blow the lid of the ISI's claims. When Headley visited India several times to carry out a reconnaissance of the targets in Mumbai, he was paid money several times by various persons. He named Sajid Mir, Major Pasha, Tawwahur Rana and also Major Iqbal who had given him money.
In Pakistain it is expected that anyone visiting India has to carry a certain amount of fake Indian currency with them. At times it is the Death Eaters who bring it in and on other occasions it is the drug mafia.
While circulating fake currency gets the ISI a good amount of money the larger plan is also to disrupt the Indian economy.

The damage to the external fuselage of one of its aircraft was identified by ground staff after landing on Monday in Beirut international airport, the airline said. It didn't identify the extent or type of damage and said the suspension of flights was announced the following day after informing authorities in both countries.
Reports on social media, which were picked up by Lebanese media, suggested the aircraft may have been hit by flying bullets. Lebanese officials, including the minister of Public Works and Transport, vehemently denied gunfire was the cause of the damage.
Beirut airport is in a busy residential area where celebratory gunfire is not uncommon.

The Shiite Duo had boycotted Cabinet since October to pressure the government into dismissing lead investigator into Beirut port blast, Judge Tarek Bitar.
"Our stand against the investigator into Beirut port blast, Judge Tarek Bitar, hasn’t changed," Berri said.
