-Signs, Portents, and the Weather-
The UN needs $675 million to stop coronavirus in its tracks
[UN News] Speaking in Geneva, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that latest data indicated 24,363 confirmed infections in China and 490 deaths from the respiratory disease (2019-nCoV), which was declared on 31 December.

"In the last 24 hours, we had the most cases in a single day since the outbreak started (3925 new cases globally)," he said.

Noting the concern generated by the virus, Tedros added that "we must not forget how difficult it is for the people of Wuhan", in reference to the city at the epicentre of the outbreak in central China.

Outside China, 191 cases have been reported in 24 countries and there has been one death in the Philippines, the WHO Director-General told journalists.

Of that number, 31 cases are people with no travel history to China, he explained, but all of them are close to contacts of confirmed cases, or to someone from the hotspot city of Wuhan, where the epidemic originated.‘Window of opportunity’ to stop transmission

This “relatively small number” of infections outside China – which is home to 99 per cent of cases, with 80 per cent of these in Hubei province alone – has presented a “window of opportunity” to prevent the outbreak from developing into a global crisis, the WHO Director-General insisted.

Highlighting that the UN health agency’s major concern is that the virus could reach countries without the capacity to detect infections, Mr. Tedros urged the international community to show solidarity – political, technical and financial – to ensure that it does not spread further.

MSNBC Genius Katy Tur Thinks Senators Can Be Elected By Gerrymandering
She's an idiot
[Townhall] When Democrats don't win, they will always make a case that they're either right or that the system is racist. The Iowa caucus was a disaster. Let's nuke it. Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election. Let's nuke the Electoral College. And when Republicans win on the Hill, oh‐it's not significant because the Democratic members of Congress actually represent more people or something. It's idiocy on a grand scale. It's the epitome of sour grapes. It's the grotesque display of entitlement from the Left who think every election contest should be won by them. That's not how this works.

Often times in a democracy, your side loses. The Left is once again trying to make the case that the Trump impeachment push was popular, despite swing state voters hating it and nationally having support numbers that are well underwater. The media bubble is dense, folks. And the liberal media has once again showed that they simply don't know how to handle the Trump era. It's also very fitting that MSNBC Katy Tur made this point about gerrymandering: the ultimate boogeyman in liberal politics, though they do it as well in blue states. It's the nature of politics. What she should have known is that you cannot gerrymander a state and that each state gets equal representation in Congress. It's just a dumb point to make, which The Washington Post's Philip Bump subtly undercut. You cannot gerrymander a state; it's just that the Democrats don't win because they're sucking. Tur made this point after the Republican Senate gave totally acquitted President Donald J. Trump on the hyper-partisan charges lobbed against him by vicious and vindictive Democrats earlier this week

Romney's Links to Burisma
[American Thinker] - It wasn’t 2012 Presidential loser Mitt Romney’s faith that caused him to vote to impeach President Trump, whom he once begged to rescue him from political oblivion. While Romney, who undoubtedly entertained visions of succeeding a President Trump after his vote helped remove from office, says it was his faith that caused him to believe Trump really did abuse his power to pressure the Ukrainians to dig up dirt on the Bidens, more likely it was because that Romney wanted to put an end to an administration that might expose his link to the Bidens and Burisma.

...Little notice has been paid to the fact that Joseph Cofer Black, a former CIA operative, served as Romney’s special adviser in his 2012 campaign for President.
Losing campaign - incidentally? Is there such a thing as "ex-CIA"?
...Black would wind up serving on the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma at the same time that Hunter, who had no special knowledge of Ukraine or the energy business, was being paid ungodly sums to curry influence with the Obama-Biden administration.

...There is no doubt that Burisma as was stockpiling people on its board who could provide it with cover from prying investigations, like the son of a vice president and a special adviser to a GOP presidential candidate. The nature of Hunter’s job is known -- his father, Vice President Joe Biden, would get a Ukrainian prosecutor fired, taking the heat off Burisma to protect his son. What Black’s role was, or why he was on the board other than providing potential access is unclear.
Burisma as CIA money laundering operation would explain some things. Neh, I'm becoming as bad as Besoeker - who sees CIA under every bed.

#7  From the memory hole. It was sort of a given that no one discussed the LDS faith around Army intelligence officers. They seemed to find a real comfort level in MI branch. Had one, a retired LTC (great American), who was used to kick around a little whenever he mentioned his wife.

My … cooperation lasted from January 2016 to January 2019, and ended when the FBI terminated my status as a confidential human source because I had revealed my status as an FBI informant to Fox News Channel after learning that they produced an internal document with significant … amounts of publicly available but damning evidence against President Trump, which prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he is a traitor to the United States. Fox News Channel’s Washington Bureau Chief Bryan Boughton fired me …

I was not familiar with Ms Dyer. A search yielded:

J.E. Dyer is a retired Naval Intelligence officer who lives in Southern California, blogging as The Optimistic Conservative for domestic tranquility and world peace. Her articles have appeared at Hot Air, Commentary's Contentions, Patheos, The Daily Caller, The Jewish Press, and The Weekly Standard.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli sovereignty and the fate of the Trump plan
h/t Gates of Vienna
[Caroline Glick] - On Wednesday morning, NeverTrump propagandist Bill Kristol told his MSNBC audience that Democratic chances of victory over US President Donald Trump will rise if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is defeated in Israel’s elections on March 2.

...To understand why this is the case it is first necessary to understand the nature of the Blue and White party and its relationship to Trump and his peace plan.

...Just before Gantz traveled to Washington to meet with Trump at the White House last Monday, it came out that his top campaign strategists, Ronen Tzur and Joel Benenson had both separately published multiple posts on Twitter viciously attacking Trump. Both men compared him to Hitler, called him a Russian agent and a racist. In other words, both men parroted Democratic talking points against Trump. (After his posts were reported, Tzur claimed that he no longer believed the things he had written.)

Whereas Tzur ‐ like every garden variety Israeli leftist politico ‐ apparently follows the Democrats on everything related to American public affairs automatically, Benenson shapes Democratic positions. Benenson served as Barack Obama’s senior political strategist in the 2008 and 2012 elections and as Hillary Clinton’s senior political strategist in 2016.

In 2015, Wikileaks published Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta’s emails. Several email chains included internal campaign discussions in which Benenson participated. In two discussions, Benenson advised Clinton not to mention Israel in public events.

Now Benenson is directing Blue and White’s campaign, and there is little reason for surprise at the seamlessness of his move from Obama and Clinton to Gantz. The Israeli left has been intertwined with the Democratic Party.

The Archon Type B is Not Just Another Plastic 9mm
[Outdoor Life] This pistol has distinctive features that separate it from the crowd of polymer-framed, striker-fired handguns.

The company that makes this pistol takes its name from the rulers of ancient Greece‐the chief magistrates of Athens and other city-states were known as Archons. That name strikes a romantic chord, though the effect is somewhat dulled by the pedestrian moniker Type B. Instead, this pistol should have been called the Phoenix. This would have been in keeping with both Greek history and mythology, as well as an apt description of this 9mm’s history.

The origins of the Type B go back to 2012, when Russian armed forces announced they were adopting a new pistol called the Strizh, which was being built by Arsenal Firearms. That pistol was also referred to as the Strike One back then, but it first appeared in the U.S. market at the 2016 SHOT Show, where it had been rebranded as the PMG Stryk.

It garnered a lot of initial interest but didn’t get off the ground, which was too bad because in a world awash with polymer-framed, striker-fired pistols, this one has some distinctive features that separate it from the crowd.

Thankfully, it’s reappeared, reborn from the ashes as it were, as the Type B you see here.
