R. Kelly blames the parents of two young women he lives with for giving their daughters up to him in exchange for money
Doesn't this type of activity violate the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation ?
As I recall, the 1863 proclamation only applied to the slave states then in revolt against the federal govnrement, not to the entire country.
[Insider] R. Kelly lashed out at the parents of two women who are allegedly members of his "sex cult," telling Gayle King on "CBS This Morning" that they sold their daughters to him and are now upset because they aren't making money from him.

"What kind of father, what kind of mother, would sell their daughter to a man?," Kelly said. "How come it was OK for me to see them until they were getting no money from me?"
It's not personal, it's just business.
The two women ‐ 21-year-old Azriel Clary and 23-year-old Joycelyn Savage ‐ are allegedly members of a "sex cult" where Kelly reportedly holds women against their will. Journalist Jim DeRogatis first wrote about the alleged cult in an article published by BuzzFeed News in 2017. He didn't identify Clary and Savage by name, but their parents later confirmed their identities.

Read more: R. Kelly was charged with 10 counts of sexual abuse after decades of accusations. Here are all the allegations against him.

Kelly, who is 52, said he's simply dating both women, who live with him in his Chicago apartment. He told CBS News he was like the "other guys" who date "five or six women" at a time. He denied having sex with Clary when she was 17, but said "her parents wanted me to."

#1  R. Kelly's Rastafarian religious and cultural defense team arriving very soon:

As it existed in Jamaica, Rastafari was not monogamous. Rasta men are permitted to have multiple female sex partners, while women are expected to reserve their sexual activity for their one male partner. Marriage is not usually formalised through legal ceremonies.

Upon R. Kelly 'OJ' acquittal, Jeffrey Epstein and Bill Clinton offer use of "Lolita Express" and 39 room beach cottage on Little St. James, IS.

As word spreads on Capital Hill, Senator Robert Menendez was seen doing the floss to R. Kelly's "I'm a Flirt" in the congressional locker room.

IIRC this is fairly common with a certain religion in MENA and the sub-continent.

#3  CBS is very proud of their Gayle King, devoting the first six or seven minutes of the CBS Evening News to this interview not just last night but the night before last as well. Personally, I don't care what the man has to say. I couldn't even bear to listen to him. Let him tell it to a jury and let them decide his fate and I'm glad I won't be on that jury. Maybe I'm just too old to believe that hip hop stars or rappers or whatever he calls himself are all that newsworthy. The big news to me is that CBS wasted so much time on this guy when there are so many other things happening that are far more important.

#10  Yeah, owning slaves does not violate the Emancipation Proclamation. But it does violate certain actual constitutional amendments (plus its, you know, immoral, if we actually care about that). Also, owning slaves is a lot of things, but it is not indicative of a cult. Thousands of societies have had slaves. Most weren't cults.

Man Tries to Board Plane with inert replica Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher
[Breitbart] A Florida man’s plan to board a plane carrying an unassembled rocket-powered grenade launcher was busted by Transportation Security Agency (TSA) officials, according to the agency.

The unidentified man, who hails from St. Petersburg, Florida, allegedly attempted to board a plane at Lehigh Valley Airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania, headed for Orlando when his checked baggage triggered an alarm while going through security.

TSA agents opened the bag to discover unassembled parts to make a "military-grade rocket-propelled grenade launcher," TSA agents told WLS.

"When assembled, the launcher was determined to be non-functioning and the grenade an inert replica Training Aid. (Thank goodness!)," TSA Public Affairs spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein tweeted Tuesday.

The man told TSA agents he thought he could get away with packing the weapon so long as it was not functional and the accompanying grenade was not real, NBC Philadelphia reported.

TSA agents allowed the man to board the plane to Orlando after confiscating the fake grenade launcher.

Sen. Martha McSally, ex-Air Force pilot, says officer raped her
[WLOX] Sen. Martha McSally, the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, said Wednesday that she was raped in the Air Force by a superior officer.

The Arizona Republican, a 26-year military veteran, made the disclosure at a Senate hearing on the armed services' efforts to prevent sexual assaults and improve the response when they occur.

McSally said she did not report being sexually assaulted because she did not trust the system, and she said she was ashamed and confused. McSally did not name the officer who she says raped her.

"I stayed silent for many years, but later in my career, as the military grappled with the scandals, and their wholly inadequate responses, I felt the need to let some people know I too was a survivor," she said, choking up as she detailed what had happened to her. "I was horrified at how my attempt to share generally my experiences was handled. I almost separated from the Air Force at 18 years of service over my despair. Like many victims, I felt like the system was raping me all over again."

McSally's revelation comes not long after Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, detailed her own abuse and assault, and at a time of increased awareness over the problem of harassment and assault in the armed forces. Reports of sexual assaults across the military jumped nearly 10 percent in 2017 — a year that also saw an online nude-photo sharing scandal rock the Defense Department.

McSally said she shares in the disgust of the failures of the military system and many commanders who have failed to address the problems of sexual misconduct. She said the public must demand that higher-ranking officials be part of the solution.

...Second. If true, Senator McSally has a chance that will never come again to show how the services can handle things like this.

What's THAT Smell?
[PennLive] Firefighters in Camp Hill put out a trash fire in a parking lot Wednesday afternoon after the contents of a garbage truck caught fire. Among the debris was a full-size dead cow.

The driver noticed smoke and flames emerging from the back of the truck and pulled over at the Harrisburg Bridge Club at 349 N. 21st Street Wednesday afternoon. Flames were still visible when firefighters arrived.

The truck dumped the flaming contents onto the parking lot so firefighters could extinguish the blaze, said Camp Hill Fire Chief Mark Simpson. That's the standard procedure for putting out a trash truck fire, he said.

"But I've got to say," Simpson said. "Never seen a cow in the trash before."

Jeopardy's Alex Trebek needs our prayers
[NBC] Alex Trebek, the longtime "Jeopardy!" host, revealed Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Trebek, 78, said in a video posted to YouTube he will attempt to finish out this season of "Jeopardy!"

"Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer," he said.

"Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working, " he said in the video. "And with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rates statistics for this disease."

Brought to some trips on a nearby crossing, years ago, where the captain greased it in beautifully on the second or third or fourth try, falling a little less short each time. American journalist detained in Venezuela released
[FOX] An American journalist who was detained in Venezuela on Wednesday by government officials has been released.

The mother of Cody Weddle, a 29-year-old Virginia native who is based in Caracas, confirmed to Fox News that Weddle messaged mother Sherry Weddle, along with his sister, on Facebook, to tell them he was alright.

Weddle, who has lived in the Venezuelan capital city since 2014, and has worked as a freelancer for multiple news stations and newspapers, including the Miami Herald, Florida’s WPLG Local 10 and ABC, told his mother he's at an airport in Venezuela and is hoping to travel to Miami on Thursday morning.

The U.S. State Department confirmed earlier Wednesday that it was "aware of and deeply concerned with reports that another U.S. journalist has been detained" by President Nicolas Maduro.

"Being a journalist is not a crime," spokesperson Kimberly Breier tweeted. "We demanded the journalist's immediate release, unharmed."

Mexico approves president's National Guard proposal
[PULSE.NG] Mexico approved a constitutional amendment Wednesday to create a new National Guard, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's controversial proposal to fight the violent crime racking the country.

The reform, which already had more than the required two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress, was effectively ratified after more than half Mexico's 32 state legislatures voted to approve it -- the final constitutional hurdle.

Lopez Obrador's original proposal was sharply criticized by human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
groups, which said the new force would permanently militarize the country.

But the final version was modified to put a five-year limit on the army's role in fighting crime and place the National Guard under the command of the security rather than the defense ministry.

"Seventeen state legislatures have now approved (the reform), the threshold established by the constitution," tweeted Senate leader Marti Batres, a member of the president's party, Morena.

Once the remaining state legislatures vote on the reform -- a formality -- the federal Congress will officially publish it, at which point it comes into force.

Lopez Obrador's proposal initially drew strong opposition, including in the Senate, where experts and activists testified that Mexico has been hit by an kaboom of violence and human rights abuses since it first deployed the military to fight the country's powerful narco mobs in 2006.

However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
after amendments to reduce the military's role in the new force, Congress passed the legislation almost unanimously, with just one vote against in the lower house.

Since the 2006 deployment, Mexico has registered nearly 250,000 murders -- including a record 33,334 last year -- as fragmented cartels wage war on the authorities and each other.

Lopez Obrador, an anti-establishment leftist, vowed during his presidential campaign last year to remove the army from the streets.

Once in office, though, he said Mexico's police forces did not have the capacity to fight crime without the military. He has floated the idea of putting a current or retired military commander in charge of the new force.

This is not the first time Mexico has attempted to overhaul its security forces.

Lopez Obrador's predecessor, Enrique Pena Nieto, created a new force called the "Gendarmerie" in 2014 in a bid to bring anti-drug policing back under civilian command.

But the reform ultimately fizzled, with almost no changes on the ground.

If the human rights groups got a better idea, they need to put up or shut up. For all the appearances, Mexico is just a couple of really bad days away from failed state status, and the cartels ain't helping.

It was seen as a defeat for President Trump’s America first ideas and a failure of one of his campaign promises. I wonder what they’ll be saying now? The company just announced that the Mexico deal has been scrapped and they will instead be expanding a plant in Michigan, adding hundreds of new jobs. (USA Today)

Ford Motor announced Tuesday that it would cancel plans for a $1.6 billion Mexico plant and launch a Michigan expansion in a move that may be viewed as a capitulation to Donald Trump.
Ford CEO Mark Fields said the company would spend $700 million and add 700 jobs to "transform and expand" its Flat Rock, Mich. manufacturing plant to make autonomous and electric vehicles.

"Make no mistake about it ‐ Ford is a global automaker but our home is right here in the United States," Fields said at a press conference.

This is an interesting development, mostly for the people of Michigan. A 700 job expansion is nothing to sneeze at and with technology increasingly moving in the direction of autonomous vehicles, this will keep them in a growing market. But it’s also something that will be of great interest to the President as we head into the next election cycle. After only narrowly carrying the state in 2016 with a plurality, beating Clinton by barely half a point, his approval ratings have been underwater there by as much as 15 points recently.

2 arrested in Jhelum for allegedly selling phony women
[DAWN] Jhelum police locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
two transgender persons on Wednesday after they were accused of selling members of the district's transgender community.

A first information report (FIR), on the complaint of Mohammad Nadim alias Neelam, was lodged under Section 370 of the Pakistain Penal Code (buying or disposing of any person as a slave), in Dina cop shoppe of the Jhelum district. Neelam alleged that a transgender person called Haji Anwar had sold her off for Rs1 million and that she had no information about the deal.

She said that she had found out about the matter from a video sent to a WhatsApp group in which a transgender person, whom she identified as Anwar, was seen signing a "fake stamp paper issued from the Jhelum kuchehri" with her name on it. Other transgenders could be seen in the video as well, she said.

Neelam further stated that she was being threatened and harassed by thugs that were hired by a group of transgender people who did not belong to the Jhelum community. She said that the men came to her house every other day and cursed her and tried to kidnap her. According to Neelum, the group was involved in the trading of several transgender persons who were residents of Jhelum including Mohammad Arshad Kiyani alias Nagayen, who was sold recently.

Man who exposed 2012 Kohistan video scandal murdered in Abbottabad
[DAWN] The central character who exposed the 2012 Kohistan
...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns....
video scandal, first to the media and then the court, was killed in Abbottabad
... A pleasant city located only 30 convenient miles from Islamabad. The city is noted for its nice weather and good schools. It is the site of Pakistain's military academy, which was within comfortable walking distance of the residence of the late Osama bin Laden....
on Wednesday evening, police said.
He was? How shockingly unexpected.
The dear departed, Afzal Kohistani, was rubbed out in the densely populated area of Sarban Chowk at around 8:10pm by unidentified button men who managed to flee afterwards.

According to witnesses, Afzal was shot multiple times and went titzup.

Three passers-by were also injured and were taken to the Ayub Medical Complex Hospital. They were identified as Kaleemullah, Said Karam, and Sabir.

Afzal's body, meanwhile, was taken to DHQ Hospital where an autopsy was conducted.

Abbottabad District Police Officer Abbas Majeed Marwat and Superintendent of Police Investigation Aziz Afridi reached the spot with a heavy contingent of police and started an investigation into the killing.

According to Station House Officer Ghafoor, of the Cantt cop shoppe, Afzal was accompanied by his nephew at the time of the incident. The nephew shot back at the button men and remained unhurt.

THE SCANDAL
The Kohistan video scandal made headlines in 2012 when eight boys and girls were killed by members of their tribe after a mobile phone video of them at a wedding in a remote village in Kohistan emerged on social media.

The video showed five females singing and clapping along as the male family members danced. The mixed gathering had taken place in a village located in an extremely conservative part of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In the eyes of the locals, the youngsters had violated tribal norms and brought dishonour upon them.

After the video was leaked, a jirga was held by the girls’ tribe which decreed the killing of the boys and girls under ’riwaj’ (a tribal custom).

Afzal, the brother of one of the boys in the video, was the one who made the news public, alleging that the girls had been killed on May 30, 2012, on the orders of a holy man who led a 40-50 member tribal jirga. Officials in the area, however, had claimed that the murders did not take place and the girls were alive.

Iraq
Pearl Petroleum to boost Kurdistan gas extraction 63% by 2022
[Rudaw] Pearl Petroleum, a consortium led by Emirati oil and gas giants Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas, has struck a deal with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to boost gas extraction at the Khor Mor field in Chamchamal by 63 percent by the year 2022.

The agreement was signed on February 19, 2019 by the KRG’s Minister of Natural Resources Ashti Hawrami and Majid Jafar, the CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Board Managing Director of Dana Gas on behalf of Pearl Petroleum.

"This agreement is an important step for us as we deliver improved services to the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq through enhanced electricity generation from the increase in gas production by the Consortium," Hawrami said in a statement.

"The Kurdistan Region holds significant reserves of gas and the KRG is committed to playing a positive role in the growing gas and electricity needs of Iraq and the region."

The consortium will invest $700 million in the Khor Mor field, which will see two new production trains and new wells drilled.

By 2021 the field will see a 250 MMscf/day increase, raising the current 400 MMscf/day to 650. By 2022 this will rise to 900.

Patrick Allman-Ward, CEO of Dana Gas, said: "Dana Gas and our partners in Pearl Petroleum are particularly proud to be investing further in the gas sector of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, delivering a reliable source of cleaner energy, and supporting local economic development."

"The continuing receipt of payments in a timely manner gives confidence for our continued investment commitment as we enter our second decade of production," Allman-Ward added.

The expansion is designed to "boost much needed local domestic electricity generation", Jafar said.

"We look forward to developing the significant resources from these important fields, for the benefit of the Kurdistan Region and all of Iraq," he added.

The Kurdistan Region has only recently begun using natural gas to power its electricity grid. The Region suffers from chronic shortages of electricity, especially in the peaks of summer and winter.

Gas from Khor Mor field is powering major electricity plants in Erbil and Sulaimani.

The KRG hopes a boost in gas extraction could make it a key player on the global market.
