Biden administration will give MEDALS to all U.S. service members in chaotic Afghan withdrawal: Pentagon announces awards and 'expedited review' a year after Kabul evacuation
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Even the dead ones?

#1  Civies - the military has separate awards for combat and valor, administrative, and "been there, see it, done it" events. Those who wear their ribbons (like Milley) are just flashing their personnel file to others in that bubble rather than demonstrating their 'scars'.

The Meritorious Unit Medal goes to the units involved in a particular action. On the Army side of the house, those who were in those units when it was awarded, get to keep wearing it. Those not in the unit, but join the unit later get to wear it while assigned to the unit.

#5  a lot of the service members involved do deserve awards

Indeed. I understand many Contractors earned their pay too.

Many have already been , to use Daily Mail language, 'given' Purple Hearts.

#7  ...The only people who should be getting anything are the people who were on the ground in Kabul from the beginning of the collapse to the final evac.

If a SINGLE Washington Warrior gets one, shame on them.

Afghanistan
Former Taliban Official Divorces Wife for Her Alleged Waning Faith Saqalain Eqbal
Typical taqfiri when they think they can get away with it.
[KhaamaPress] Saeed Khosty, the former Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
Ministry of Interior spokesperson, has divorced his wife, the daughter of one of the former National Security Generals, whom he allegedly forcefully married, due to her faith infirmity.

Elaha, Khosty’s wife, is a 24-year-old medical student at the Kabul Medical University. In the videotapes she made public, she asserts that Saeed Khosty sexually assaulted her within the Taliban intelligence office before forcing her to marry him.

She claims in one of the videos that are circulating on social media that this Taliban official tortured her at night, leaving marks all over her body.

Elaha was imprisoned by the Taliban intelligence after being detained for having images of National Security soldiers on her phone, where she was repeatedly degraded, and purportedly raped by Saeed Khosty while being filmed.

Following that, the Taliban official and several gun-toting Taliban fighters visit her home and threaten her family by telling them not to dispute their marriage.

Elaha is kept at the Gulbahar Center in Kabul after being made to marry Khosty against her will. She makes multiple efforts to escape, but the Taliban always catch her and bring her back, just like the last time she was brought back from the Torkham border.

According to her, she was left with no alternative but to shoot a video of herself as soon as she acquired a smartphone, which she then promptly shared on social media and sent to the media.

Saeed Khosty claimed on his Twitter handle that Elaha asked him to marry her six months ago, but he later after marriage, he discovered she had a problem with her faith and belief.

Elaha, according to Khosty, disrespected and insulted the sacred values, despite his attempts to educate and correct her.

This Taliban official has publicly apologized to the Taliban and refuted any charges of rape, torture, or other forms of abuse. He also expressed remorse for this marriage.

50 civilians die in sweep by Malian and 'foreign' troops: UN
[AlAhram] At least 50 non-combatants were killed and hundreds arrested in central Mali in April during an operation by the army and "foreign" personnel, the UN's peacekeeping mission said Wednesday.
Only now reporting on what happened in April? That makes it WoT Background.
The incident happened on April 19 when Malian troops "accompanied by foreign military personnel" carried out a sweep in Hombori after one of their convoys was attacked by a roadside kaboom, MINUSMA said.
I think Hombori is JNIM territory, one of several Al Qaeda in North Africa branches and sub-branches in the Sahel.
"At least 50 civilians (including a woman and a child) were killed and more than 500 others arrested," it said in a quarterly report on violence and rights abuses.

The report did not specify who the imported muscle were.

Mali's ruling junta, which has been in power since 2020, has brought in Russian operatives it describes as military trainers.

Western countries describe them as mercenaries from the pro-Kremlin Wagner group.

Their presence has been a key factor in La Belle France's decision to withdraw its troops from Mali, a former colony that it has supported in a decade-long fight against a jihadist insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives and forced hundreds of thousands from their homes.

The last French soldier in Mali under the long-running Barkhane anti-jihadist mission left the country on August 15.

The MINUSMA report said 96 non-combatants were killed during operations by Malian security forces between April 1 and June 30, while seven disappeared and 19 were maimed.

A report by experts to the UN, seen by AFP in early August, said "white-skinned soldiers" accompanied Malian soldiers at the scene of killings in March in the Segou region near the Mauritanian border, in which 33 civilians died.

In April, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said about 300 people, most of them ethnic Fulani
... a peculiarly brutal tribe of Moslem herdsmen infesting Mali, Niger, Nigeria, and probably other places that are light on law and order and heavy on tribal identity...
s, were killed in Moura in central Mali in March by Malian forces "or associated imported muscle", a veiled reference to suspected Russian operatives.

Mali's army says that it killed 203 forces of Evil at Moura.
The April 19th attack can be found in our archives here.

Iraq
Al-Sadr's advisor calls Iran to rein in the ''blatant Framework'', Sadr’s return not to be political
[SHAFAQ] Salih Muhammad al-Iraqi, a self-proclaimed advisor of Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival al-Khoei assassinated shortly after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
, said that the Coordination Framework's intention to hold a parliamentary session and proceed with forming the federal government is a " brazen act."

Al-Iraqi said, "I was not surprised by the positions of (the blatant Coordination Framework) nor by its (blatant militias) when they challenged the entire people, their reference and their sects, that they would resume the Parliament session to form their (blatant government)."

He added, "They have no religion, no morals...what a (blatant tripartite) that does not know the meaning of reform, revolution, peace, or people's suffering."

The Minister of al-Sadr refers to three CF leaders as "blatant tripartite" Nuri al-Maliki, Qais Khazali, and Ammar al-Hakim.

Al-Sadr's minister added, "This group loves corruption, money, and vice, and did not attempt, not even once, to uncover a single corruption file."

"If they do not declare mourning, let them consider the Sadrist Movement and me their number-one enemy."

He called "the neighbor, Iran, to rein in" its forces in Iraq.

Al-Sadr would return as a popular, not political leader, source

[SHAFAQ] A Source close to the leader of the Sadrist movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr, revealed that al-Sadr would resume his work within a few days.

Earlier, al-Sadr announced his resignation from political life.

The source told Shafaq News Agency, "Al-Sadr would return to the Iraqi arena as a popular leader, not a political and opposition man, and he would follow steps to oppose the formation of any consensus government that is based on quotas."

"Al-Sadr would not interfere in politics; he will secure popular pressure to prevent forming any consensus government dissolve and run early elections." The source pointed out.

Since the aftermath of the US-led invasion in 2003 that toppled longtime dictator Saddam Hussein, Iraq has been governed under a sectarian power-sharing system.

Sadr, whose father was one of Iraq's most respected Shiite holy mans, has gradually grown into a key political player in this landscape, bolstered by a Shiite support base that he often mobilizes to press his demands.

Since elections last October, disagreements between Sadr and a rival Iran-backed Shiite force known as the Coordination Framework have left Iraq without a new government, prime minister, or president.

Tensions escalated sharply on Monday when Sadr loyalists stormed the government palace inside the Green Zone after he announced he was quitting politics.

But Sadr's supporters then left the Green Zone on Tuesday afternoon when he appealed for them to withdraw within the hour -- a demonstration of the cult-like following that earned him his kingmaker status.

Saraya al-Salam's General Commander says NO to ''consensus'' government
[SHAFAQ] The General commander in Saraya al-Salam (The Peace Companies), a paramilitary group loyal to influential Shiite holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival al-Khoei assassinated shortly after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry...
, reiterated the movement's rejection for forming a "consensus" government in Iraq.

"There would not be a consensus government according to an external taste," Hahseen "Abu Mustafa" al-Hamidawi tweeted that he deleted shortly later.
