The blast at a cultural centre during an event for journalists in northern Afghanistan killed at least one person and maimed eight, according to authorities and journalists.
However, death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate... the Tebyan Cultural Centre states, "Three persons were killed, and 30 others, including journalists, were maimed in the incident".
This was the second incident within three days in the Balkh province; the first was a suicide kaboom that killed the governor of Balk, Mullah Dawood Muzmal, and the second blast targeted the Afghan journalist’s award event.
The Islamic State claimed both incidents.
IS-Khorasan is the main rival of the Taliban ...Arabic for students... -led government, aiming to target Taliban officials, foreign citizens and people.
Recently, the group has intensified their attacks on Afghanistan’s Kabul, Herat ...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns... and Balkh provinces.
Although the Taliban claims the conflict has been finished in the country, the radical Islamic State of Khorasan and other snuffies have ferociously targeted Kabul city and other places.
The blast targeting media workers was caused by a “parcel bomb that IS fighters managed to place and detonate”, the group said in a statement via its Amaq News Agency on Sunday.
“The blast targeted a rally held inside a Shiite [Shia] centre to reward several journalists working in agencies involved in the war and instigation against IS,” the statement said.
A security guard was killed, while five journalists and three children were wounded in the bomb attack, police said.

The fighting was taking place since Saturday night in Dadamale and Quracda located in the mountains of the Bari region, where the two sides have training bases, per local security officials.
The details of the casualties and the reason behind the breakout of the fighting still remain sketchy as Puntland authorities are yet to comment on the rare al-Shabaab-ISIS skirmish.
The two groups have been competing for dominance in the Bari region and the tax imposed on Bosaso businesses. Their rivalry opens a new front as SNA gains momentum in the current war.

The latest attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Kirindera in North Kivu province's Beni territory, according to village chief Katembo Kahongya.
"We have 17 dead and four maimed," he told AFP, adding that the holy warriors had also set fire to buildings.
"They used bladed weapons and fire to execute the population," Kahongya said.
Former North Kivu Governor Carly Nzanzu Kasivita also tweeted that suspected ADF fighters had killed 19 people at the village, noting the figure was provisional.
AFP was unable to independently confirm the corpse count.
Kirindera resident Mukondano Kambale said the holy warriors killed people in a hotel and health clinic before being chased away.
"It's fear and desolation in the centre of Kirindera," he said.
The attack comes after suspected ADF rebels killed over 40 people in twin attacks in neighbouring North Kivu villages on Wednesday, according to officials and residents.

[AlAhram] A Greek court in Crete sentenced a 45-year-old Egyptian man on Wednesday to 280 years in prison for human trafficking and smuggling migrants colonists into Greece after he participated in the steering of a boat that was transporting migrants colonists from Libya to Greece.
The man, a fisherman by trade who was identified by Greek news websites as H. El-Fallah, was charged with multiple criminal offences including unauthorised entry, unauthorised transport of 476 third-country nationals into Greek territory, endangering the lives of the passengers, acting for profit, and belonging to a criminal organization.
According to the human rights One man's rights are another man's existential threat. organization Borderline Europe, El-Fallah, who was accompanied in the trip by his 15-year-old son, made a deal with the smugglers to do chores on the boat in exchange for a lower fare because they could not afford the full cost of the trip.
The court convicted El-Fallah on human trafficking and smuggling charges because he participated in the steering of the vessel when it ran into trouble after it drifted due to strong winds in the Mediterranean.
A Greek coastal guard rescued the boat eventually and towed it to Palaiochora in Crete.
At this point, Greek authorities charged a total of seven of the migrants colonists on the boat, including El-Fallah, with steering the vessel.
On Wednesday, the court convicted El-Fallah and the boat’s captain but acquitted the other defendants in the case.
El-Fallah faced a maximum sentence of 4,760 years in prison — 10 years for every migrant on the boat - under the 2014 Greek Migration Law.
However, if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning... the court showed some leniency in the sentencing because El-Fallah pleaded his case arguing he was acting in an emergency situation when he helped in steering the vessel.
Some Greek migrants colonists rights groups and rights lawyers have charged that El-Fallah, who was only trying to reunite with his older son in the UK, was used as a scapegoat in the case, vowing to appeal the verdicts.

[IsraelTimes] Israeli soldiers came under fire by Paleostinian button men early Sunday morning in the northern West Bank, responding with gunfire that killed three assailants, the military and Paleostinian health officials said.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement that the shots had been fired toward a military post near Jit, west of Nablus, where troops of the Golani Brigade’s Reconnaissance Battalion were stationed during "proactive activity."
The soldiers returned fire, "neutralizing" three of the Paleostinian assailants, the IDF said.
The Paleostinian Authority health ministry said they were notified of their deaths, indicating the attackers’ bodies had been taken by the army.
Another assailant turned himself in and was arrested and taken for questioning, the military said, adding that there were no casualties among the Israeli troops.
The slain button men were later named by the ministry as Jihad Mohammad Shami, 24, Udai Othman Shami, 22, and Mohammad Ra’ed Dabek, 18, The arrested man was named as Ibrahim Awartani.
The Nablus-based Lion’s Den terror group later claimed the button men as members.
The forces seized three M-16 rifles, a handgun, and magazines that had been in the attackers’ possession, the IDF said.
An image from the scene showed troops standing near a car that had apparently been used by the button men.
Tensions between Israel and the Paleostinians have been high for the past year, with the IDF conducting near-nightly raids in the West Bank amid a series of deadly Paleostinian terror attacks. A string of Paleostinian terror attacks in Jerusalem and the West Bank in recent months left 14 Israelis dead and several more seriously hurt.

A security source told North Press, "26-year-old Ammar Mustafa al-Mustafa was killed and his brother sustained injuries while they were crossing a checkpoint held by the government in Hasakah city."
The source said, "Both hail from Idlib countryside, and they are IDPs residing in Raqqa city. They arrived at Hasakah city after this afternoon."
While they were driving the car, the source said, "They headed towards the Qamishli Street in the city center — half of which is controlled by government forces — and were surprised by the presence of a government checkpoint. While trying to escape, the checkpoint’s soldiers opened fire on them."
North Press could not identify with certainty why they fled, but considering their age, they are most likely draft evaders.
"Both were transferred to the al-Lu’lu’a Hospital after the incident. Later, the dear departed was transferred to al-Hikma Hospital through the Syrian Red Islamic Thingy, and his injured brother was arrested by the government’s Political Security Branch," the source added.
The source said that the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) came to al-Hikma Hospital and took the body to the People’s Hospital.
The government forces control most of downtown Hasakah and have many checkpoints on the entrances of the government’s so-called ’security square’.

[NPASyria] On Saturday, a young man was killed under torture, and seven others sustained various injuries after being assaulted by Ottoman Turkish border guards while trying to get into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire... through the Syrian-Ottoman Turkish border in north of Idlib, northwestern Syria.
A medical source in Bab al-Hawa Hospital told North Press that the hospital received a body of a young man and seven others who sustained fractures in their legs and arms after they were severely beaten by the Ottoman Turkish border guards.
The body was identified as Abdurrazaq Ahmad al-Qastal from the village of Samra in the eastern countryside of Hama Governorate, central Syria, and was an IDP in the town of Zardana in north of Idlib.
The source said the cause of the death of the young man was a head injury caused by an iron bar which led to internal bleeding in addition to significant torture marks on his body.
A day earlier, the hospital received 12 Syrians who were severely beaten by the Ottoman Turkish border guards while attempting to cross the border. It is expected that two of the injured may get leg amputation because their bones were completely shattered.
Syrians who try to cross into Turkey are exposed to be assaulted and shot by the border guards.
Monitoring and Documentation Department of North Press recorded the death of 16 people and the injury of 46 including one child and three women since early 2023.

[IsraelTimes] State media claims fighter jets target sites in Tartus province and near Masyaf in northwest of country.
Israel carried out a rare daytime strike against targets in northwestern Syria on Sunday morning, injuring three soldiers and causing damage, the state-run broadcaster SANA said.
While alleged Israeli attacks in Syria typically take place under the cover of darkness, Sunday’s strike was conducted at around 7:15 a.m., according to SANA.
There was no response from the Israel Defense Forces, in line with its policy of not commenting on specific air raids in the country.
SANA, citing a military source, said Israeli fighter jets launched a volley of missiles from over north Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...In 2006 unknown persons blew up Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the car he was traveling in, the road he was traveling on, and a few innocent bystanders of no account whatsoever. The person or persons unknow weren't Hezbollah, you can bet on that. Really. Even though there was an international tribunal that said it was them... , targeting sites in the coastal Tartus province and near Masyaf in the Hama province.
The area around Masyaf, which is thought to be used as a base for Iranian forces and pro-Iranian militias, has been repeatedly targeted in recent years in attacks widely attributed to Israel.
The report did not elaborate on the soldiers’ conditions or the extent of the damage caused to the targeted sites.
SANA claimed that Syrian air defenses managed to intercept several of the Israeli missiles in the strike. Syria regularly claims to intercept Israeli missiles, though military analysts doubt such assertions.
Though Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, it has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country.
The IDF says it also attacks arms shipments believed to be bound for those groups, chief among them Lebanon’s Hezbollah. Additionally, Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s attributed to Israel have repeatedly targeted Syrian air defense systems.
The last airstrike in Syria attributed to Israel was on Tuesday, when Syria said an airstrike targeted the Aleppo International Airport, leading it to be shut for several days.

State media reported late Saturday that the interior ministry had announced the arrests over the suspected poison attacks in more than 200 schools, that have sparked fear and anger among pupils and their parents.
The statement pointed at possible links to an Albania-based exiled Iranian opposition group that Tehran considers a "terrorist" organization, the People's Mujahedin of Iran or Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK).
"More than 100 people who were responsible for the recent school incidents were identified, arrested and investigated," the ministry said in a statement, carried by state news agency IRNA.
"Among those arrested are people with hostile motives and with the aim of instilling terror in the people and students and to close schools."
The ministry added that "fortunately, from the middle of the last week until today, the number of incidents in schools has decreased significantly, and there have been no reports of sick students".

"The investigation of these criminal people, including the discovery of their possible connection with the terrorist organizations such as the MEK and others, is ongoing," reported IRNA.
The poisonings started two months into the protests that gripped Iran following the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, an ethnic Kurd who had been arrested over an alleged violation of strict dress rules for women. Iran has blamed those protests, which it commonly labels "riots", on hostile forces abroad linked to its arch foes the United States, Israel and their allies.
More than 5,000 pupils have been affected in approximately 230 schools across 25 out of Iran's 31 provinces, the latest official tally said.
The ministry said arrests were made in the provinces of Tehran, Qom and Gilan in the north, Razavi Khorasan in the northeast, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan and Zanjan in the northwest, Kurdistan and Hamadan in the west, Khuzestan in the southwest and Fars in the south.

Between February and April each year, hundreds of impoverished Syrians search for truffles in the vast Syrian Desert, or Badia — a known hideout for jihadists that is also littered with landmines.
Since February, 139 people — 120 of them civilians — have been killed by IS attacks targeting truffle hunters or mines left by the murderous Moslems, according to the observatory.
Syria’s desert truffles fetch high prices in a country battered by 12 years of war and a crushing economic crisis. Foragers risk their lives to collect the delicacies despite repeated warnings about landmines and IS fighters.
