DC Madam commits "suicide" in Tarpon Springs
TARPON SPRINGS - Police were called to the home of DC Madam Deborah Jeane Palfrey's mother on Thursday to investigate her apparent suicide.
Key word being "apparent".
Police have confirmed that the dead person is Palfrey who was 52. Palfrey was dubbed "The DC Madam" by the national media after her arrest for allegedly running an upscale call girl ring in the nation's capitol. She was convicted on Tuesday of money laundering, using the mail for illegal purposes and racketeering, but she had not yet been sentenced.

There has been much speculation in the media about who was on Palfrey's client list, but few details came out during the trial.
And now they never will.
Randall L. Tobias resigned as a deputy secretary of state after acknowledging to ABC News that he used Palfrey's service for massages.
So that's what they're calling it these days

#1  Very sad, whichever way you slice it.

Whether suicide or death by other means, it's a waste of a perfectly fine life over stupid sh*t.

The gov't has wasted how many resources on this prosecution? Ruined how many lives and reputations?

Ridiculous.

RIP Ms. Palfrey, I'm sure you deserved better.

#2  Palfrey was convicted April 15 by a federal jury of running a prostitution service that catered to members of Washington's political elite, including Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican.

Well I guess we won't be playing "Guess that party" today...

#3  This isn't the first "suicide" in this case:

One of the escort service employees was former University of Maryland, Baltimore County, professor Brandy Britton, who was arrested on prostitution charges in 2006. She committed suicide in January before she was scheduled to go to trial. Last year, Palfrey said she, too, was humiliated by her prostitution charges, but said: “I guess I’m made of something that Brandy Britton wasn’t made of.”

#4  let me guess: shot herself in the head 6 times then hid the gun?

#5  Nah, Frank. She beat herself to death with a three-iron, left at the scene.

#6  I remember reading somewhere, long ago, that suicide (or maybe it was "self-inflicted GSW") is the #1 cause of death among prostitutes, pr0n stars, "exotic" dancers, and the like. Consider the psychological toll the "industry" exacts, and then add to it the prospect of hard prison time for the rest of your life expectancy, and it wouldn't surprise me if she offed herself.

It also wouldn't surprise me if she didn't, but until you know that's what happened, you don't know that's what happened.

#7  If it was a murder, it is going to be a very long list of suspects. And the fact that the police are going to need to reveiw The List, that may well end up avenging the Madam's death.

#8  that list is not coming , i bet a few congressmen have already made sure of that

Pinko Shitbird's Flying Capitalist Pig Found
Sad news today from the world of washed up hasbeen rock stars...
LA QUINTA - Coachella festival organizers identified the remains of musician Roger Waters' massive, inflatable "capitalist" pig Tuesday at La Quinta's upscale Hideaway Golf Club.
Capitalist Pig found dead in Capitalist Citadel. Film at eleven...
The helium-filled, school-bus-sized pig had unexpectedly escaped the Empire Polo Club field during Waters' set on Sunday. For its recovery, organizers offered a $10,000 reward and four Coachella tickets for life.
What's second prize, eight Coachella tickets for life?
"That's definitely our pig," Coachella producer Bill Fold said.
I guess that is his real name...
Sadly, now it looks more like pulled pork: crumpled heaps of shredded, spray-painted plastic.
Omen? Sign? Portent? Weather?
The flyaway pig story grabbed headlines on news sites and music blogs around the country. As reported Tuesday at mydesert.com, two Hideaway couples each discovered a half of the deflated pig the morning after its ill-fated journey through the desert sky. Fold said it initially drifted as far north as Highway 111 before blowing back south as it ascended.
Surprised they didn't get AWACS up...
The two couples will split the cash reward and each pair will get four Coachella tickets for life, Fold said. They'll also receive all-access passes to this weekend's Stagecoach music festival.
Well, sell my clothes, I've gone to heaven...
The pig has been a trademark concert prop for Waters and his former Pink Floyd bandmates since 1977, when they released the capitalism critique "Animals." Waters was playing a song from the album Sunday when the swine escaped.
Donated all the profits from "Animals" to charity did ya , Roger?
"Interesting he'd land in a country club," said Susan Stoltz, who found the plastic pig heap in her driveway. She had no idea what it was until she read Tuesday's Desert Sun.
Glad I'm not the only one to pick up on that...
Believe it or not, Stoltz said she was wearing a Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" T-shirt as she read the paper and realized what she had. "If I'm lyin' I'm dyin'," Stoltz said with a southern twang.
I thought I was having flashbacks...
Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Waters were unsuccessful on Tuesday, but Fold said "he's probably a little bummed."
Why, is he outta dope?
Organizers are investigating how Waters' pig managed to escape. Festival staff held it above the crowd with lines, similar to floats in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Fold said. So far, it's unclear who let it go.
My bet is...Cheney.
Concertgoers shined lights at the swine until it disappeared from sight, Fold said.
If it was a hip hop concert, they probably could've shot it down.
It displayed the words "Don't be led to the slaughter" and a cartoon of Uncle Sam wielding two bloody cleavers. The other side read "Fear builds walls." The underside of the pig simply read "Obama" with a checked ballot box alongside, referring to U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill.
Omen? Sign? Portent? Weather?
The pig was too damaged after its flight to decipher any of the designs or slogans.
Look away! It's, like, hideous!
When Coachella organizers posted a message about the disappearance and reward on the festival's Web site, they received about 100 "condolence" e-mails for the lost pig from music fans, Fold said.
Like, I'm sorry ya lost yer pig, man. Like...what was I sayin?
Hideaway resident Judy Rimmer suspected Coachella concertgoers of a prank when she found half of the pig draped over a front-yard plant. "I had no clue what it was," Rimmer said. "My kids are going to think I'm so cool," Susan Stoltz said.
Who's Pink Floyd, mom?

Mayday! Mayday!
May Day occurs on May 1 and refers to any of several public holidays. In many countries, May Day is synonymous with International Workers' Day, or Labour Day, which celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labor movement. . . .

It also used to be an excuse for the commies to parade around Red Square with tanks and missiles and impress us all with how mighty they were.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Mayday is an emergency code word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning 'come to my aid'/"come [to] help me." It is used to signal a life-threatening emergency by many groups, such as police forces, pilots, the fire brigade, and transportation organizations. The call is always given three times in a row ("Mayday Mayday Mayday") to prevent mistaking it for some similar-sounding phrase under noisy conditions, and to distinguish an actual mayday call from a message about a mayday call. . . .

#1  Back in the 50's we made May Baskets and left them at the doors of our Grandmothers. Lots of families did it. I do miss a lot of the things from when I was a child.

Personally, I'm not real impressed.

#5  They're partying in Gaza too...

Gaza – Ma'an – Hundreds of unemployed Palestinian workers from the Gaza Strip rallied on Thursday in a May Day protest at the dire conditions they are enduring under the Israeli-led embargo.

In an expression of their despair™, the rallying workers performed the absentee prayer - an Islamic prayer similar to a funeral prayer, that is usually performed for fighters missing in actions.

Followed by the invocation to Our Lady of the Foot Wound.

Many of the workers held up signs offering their body parts for sale to raise money to feed their families.

The pancreas? How much, Mahmoud?

Others set fire to their work tools which they now deem useless.

After which, they immediately went down to the local UNRWA office to demand new ones.

Abu Muhammad, an unemployed worker told Ma'an's reporter, "I came here to announce that I am willing to sell my body parts because I have no other way to provide basic food for my family, and the situation is getting worse."

Maybe you can become a fuel truck hijacker for Hamas?

Other workers said they frequently hear about aid shipments reaching the coastal sector but claim they have never received any of the much-needed aid.

Geez, I wonder who's getting it?

Nabil Mabhuh, the coordinator of the Gaza Strip laborers' union, said that 350 factories in the Gaza Strip have closed as a result of the siege rendering dozens of thousands of workers unemployed.

The Gaza Tunnel Authority's hiring...

McCain Sez Earmarks Caused MN Bridge Failure
Republican John McCain said Wednesday that the bridge collapse in Minnesota that killed 13 people last year would not have happened if Congress had not wasted so much money on pork-barrel spending.

Federal investigators cite undersize steel plates as the "critical factor" in the collapse of the bridge. Heavy loads of construction materials on the bridge also contributed to the disaster that injured 145 people on Aug. 1, according to preliminary findings by the National Transportation Safety Board.
That's what I think.
Yet McCain, while campaigning in Pennsylvania, told reporters: "The bridge in Minneapolis didn't collapse because there wasn't enough money. The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects."
In a manner of speaking.
McCain, the expected GOP presidential nominee, regularly rails against "earmarks," the pet projects that lawmakers tuck into spending bills, such as the proposed $223 million "bridge to nowhere" in Alaska. The Arizona senator says he would eliminate earmarks, estimated at $18 billion last year, and would make each project compete in the regular congressional funding process.

"I think there is a long, long list of earmarks which went to unnecessary and unwanted projects that I think should have gone to the bridge in Minnesota," McCain said. "I don't know whether it would have gone or not, but if you're spending $223 million on a bridge in Alaska to an island with 50 people on it ..."
Surely, if someone had handed MN DOT an extra billion of two, they could've fixed the bridge a bit earlier. Unfortunately, the report I read said the defect was hidden for 40 years and (in essence) was only discovered becasue the bridge fell.
Democrats criticized McCain's comments. "It is reprehensible that John McCain would use a national tragedy to make a political point that isn't even grounded in facts," said Damien LaVera, spokesman for the Democratic National Committee.
yeah. reprehensible.
"It's the process I object to," he said. "I'm sure that I can give you a list of projects the Mafia funds, and they would probably be good projects. But I can't give you a justification for the Mafia. I can't give you a justification for the corruption that's been bred which has sent members of Congress to the federal prison," he said.
So does that mean the Rev. Wright's good projects are outweighed by his bad mouth?

#1  The Bridge to Nowhere was slated to connect the City of Ketchikan on the main island to the airport across the channel. Presently the airport is served by a passenger and vehicle ferry that serves the airport every half hour or so. It would be convenient to drive to the airport. The question is whether it is $233 million convenient.

Will be down in Ketchikan next week and will give Rantburgers a full report......of something.
