Amazing story. Since we don't know what transpired between Mother and Son, we don't know why this particular punishment was imposed. Is it the "right" of society to intervene when there is no danger to the child? I wonder.
A woman who forced her son to rake leaves in the nude as punishment for misbehaving in school has pleaded guilty to a child cruelty charge. However, the 47-year-old mother might avoid a felony record. Under an agreement worked out by the prosecution and defense, Fredericksburg Circuit Court Judge John W. Scott Jr. on Monday deferred the case to March 3. At that time, Scott could impose the guilty plea, find the woman guilty of a lesser charge or continue the case to another date. Defense attorney Beverly Haney said the woman has no criminal record and does not deserve a felony conviction. "She lost her cool that day and she regrets it deeply," Haney said. The woman is not being named to protect the boy's privacy. According to evidence, the incident occurred on April 27 in the Mayfield subdivision. The 12-year-old boy had aggravated his mother by continuing to get in trouble at school, and the mother responded by sending him outside that evening to rake leaves naked. A neighbor saw the boy and called police. The boy was never removed from the mother's custody, and Haney said both are now doing much better. Personally, I'll bet that (without the hew & cry) her little lesson in discipline would've been quite effective. It didn't hurt him, just embarassed the hell out of him. Is that worth a felony? Pfeh, of course not. PCism amok, redux.

LOL. I wholeheartedly disagree - as noted in my comments. Seems as though she can handle his young recalcitrant ass just fine in person. The police and neighbors should piss off. :-)
One issue's sometimes more than enough. She ought to send the little brat to school naked. That would teach him.

hehe I think she could have implemented other forms of punishment . Telling your son to parade around garden naked for whatever reason seems .. a little bizarre to me *shrug* , also if she could get her son to do that , then she obvioulsy has some control over him . sheesh

This was really, really frickin' stupid on the mom's part. Public humiliation? For getting in trouble in school!? Great - so when the kids at school find out about his naked leaf raking and the teasing begins, expect the fights to go up about 300%. Brilliant, Mom. You just ensured that the kid will be in trouble for the rest of his school career.

Seriously, how do you force your kid to rake the yard naked if the kid doesn't want to? Strip them down and lock them out? Use a whip? Something is very odd here. The kid could have stormed over to a neighbor and called 911 rather than raking in the nude.
Perhaps the kid went nude at school and it's not that big a deal for him, he called his mom's bluff when she said why don' t just do your chores nude, but the neighbors freaked. Not that I'm blaming the kid, I'm just saying there has to be more to this than we're seeing.

I think Mom deserves public humiliation. Regardless, she's guaranteed herself a very lonely and unsupported old age. I'd give 10:1 odds that she won't hear from her son much after he leaves the house.

The whole thing is crazy. I suspect the kid did as ordered just to get the mother in trouble. Which he did. Both of them are nuts. No halfway normal kid would do that under threat of death, and no sane mother would do it either.

Careful reading, not to mention putting onseself in another's shoes, must be a bridge too far. Anyone without children or, especially, lacking experience with problem children, should recuse themselves as know-nothing novices (think: bald barbers, marriage counselor priests, etc) and piss off with the police and nanny-neighbors, lol.
