Dispute over dead parrots to end in court
OSLO - A dispute over four dead parrots will end in a Norwegian court next month. The owner of the birds wants $3,644 compensation after they drowned in 1999 when a ferry sank off west Norway, killing 16 people. The insurance company has offered $216. "Some people will think the loss of a few parrots is trivial compared to the big tragedy. But for me it's become a matter of principle," the 55-year-old man told the west Norwegian daily Bergensavisen. "It's bad to treat birds like packages in the post." The birds had been in a cage on the way to a vet in the port city of Bergen when the ferry hit rocks and sank. The man is due to go to court in Bergen on October 20 against ferry company HSD and insurer Skuld.
They're not pinin'! They've passed on! These parrots are no more! They've ceased to be! They've expired and gone to meet their maker! They're stiffs! Bereft of life, they rest in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'em to the perch they'd be pushing up the daisies! Their metabolic processes are now 'istory! They're off the twig! They've kicked the bucket, they've shuffled off their mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! Uf da! THESE ARE EX-PARROTS!!

#1  Dude - If you were that close to the byrdys, meet 'em at the "rainbow bridge" when you cross over. Get over it for now, you are a human {we all presume} and you need to be with other humans...

I had a Boxer-dog die last March. I miss the dog. He was the best dog I ever had, but more important... VASTLY more important, my wife and son are in good health, and my concern is for them, and the here & now...

Tut tut, BH, not so.

"Norwegian blue, beau'iful plumage . . ."

Such a profound wealth of quotalicious material will always yield up toothsome tid bits, as GP has so capably proven.

More than 250 sailors and civilians attending an annual sexual harassment prevention class at Pearl Harbor got an eyeful when a nude photograph of a woman popped up on the theater screen. The petty officer running the computer presentation contended that it was done inadvertently, but the Navy said his action was unacceptable and he was punished. Capt. Ronald Cox, who commands Pearl Harbor Naval Station, sent an e-mail message the next day to those who attended, apologizing for the Aug. 24 incident. "I am embarrassed that anyone assigned to this command could be exposed to this material," Cox wrote. "This is totally unacceptable and won't be tolerated."

The petty officer's laptop was being used to show the electronic slide presentation, and the personal photograph of the nude woman was a background image on the computer's desktop. Lt. Cmdr. Jeff Davis, Pearl Harbor spokesman, said the Navy allows computer users to place personal or family photographs on their desktops, but nude images or other explicit or pornographic photographs are not permitted. Pearl Harbor officials have scheduled 30-minute class computer-training classes for all Navy personnel and civilian workers at Pearl Harbor. Davis said the classes "focused on computer use and appropriate use of computers." Davis said the annual computer presentation in Pearl Harbor's Sharkey Theater was on "Prevention of Sexual Harassment."

#1  How Ironic......

The petty officer's laptop was being used to show the electronic slide presentation, and the personal photograph of the nude woman was a background image on the computer's desktop.

Was this officer was teaching the class?

#2  It would appear so. And that is why these classes will continue .....

#3  The irony is so think I think I will cut a piece and serve it with dinner . . .

It is the same mentality which makes the rules in Basic. Drill SGT's may not cuss you, but they can cuss around you (like they ever paid attention to that one).

IIRC, soldiers are not plaster saints . . .

#4  ...when a nude photograph of a woman...

A nude photograph?? This is totally unacceptable! All photographs must be fully clothed at all times! (The people in them can be nude, but the photographs themselves must be completely covered.)

#5  This falls firmly into the DOH! category.

They has bats upstairs!
A Branson, Missouri man has put a face to the anonymous references people often make to "they" by changing his name to just that: "They."
They's going to have trouble, methinks.
The former Andrew Wilson, a 43-year-old self-employed inventor, was granted legal permission last week by a circuit judge to change his name. It's just They, no surname. He also has changed his driver's license to reflect his new name. They said he did it for humor to address the common reference to "they."
That's what They says.
"'They do this,' or 'They're to blame for that.' Who is this 'they' everyone talks about? 'They' accomplish such great things. Somebody had to take responsibility," he said. Now, his friends are getting used to his new name. "They call up and say, 'Is They there?'" He acknowledged the name could drive grammarians crazy.
But They are truly a boon to snarky Innernut commentators...
Crazy enough to change their own names to "They"?
"Not only is he making a statement about his name, but he's messing with the entire English language," friend Craig Erickson said. They holds 14 patents including Ground-Effect lighting, used to create a neon glow beneath vehicles and patented in 1987. His newest product is a tinfoil beanie "Shades Eyewear," which have a built-in visor over each sunglass lens. The visors protect the eyes from glare without having to wear a hat, he said.
Rumor has it that Them! are getting jealous...

#1  This could only work in Branson MO, where it is proper to say "They is".

#2  He's already got a song about him:

Who made up all the rules
We follow them like fools
Believe them to be true
Don't care to think them through . . .

#3  I think this is a better song for "Mr. They"

THE HELLO SONG from the movie CRAZY PEOPLE
(Starred - Dudley Moore & Daryl Hannah)

Hello, hello, hello!
What a wonderful word, hello!
Hello, hello, hello!
You can hear it wherever you go...

A stranger in a strange place can't be nearer,
But when you hear the hello song, it's dearer.
Hello, hello, hello!
What a wonderful word hello!

#4  Love the logic behind the GoogleAdserver (see sidebar accompanying this thread).

Wonder if they serve up Gay Disney Day ads when a thread mentions gays?

If he's from Branson, I'm guessing "no". ;)
