The petty officer's laptop was being used to show the electronic slide presentation, and the personal photograph of the nude woman was a background image on the computer's desktop.

Was this officer was teaching the class?

It is the same mentality which makes the rules in Basic. Drill SGT's may not cuss you, but they can cuss around you (like they ever paid attention to that one).

IIRC, soldiers are not plaster saints . . .

A nude photograph?? This is totally unacceptable! All photographs must be fully clothed at all times! (The people in them can be nude, but the photographs themselves must be completely covered.)
