University of Florida eliminates DEI office, will put its $5M toward recruiting faculty
[NYPost] DeSantis comes through
The University of Florida on Friday closed its diversity office and fired 13 full-time staffers to comply with a new state law that bans Sunshine State schools from spending on such ideologies.

“The University of Florida has closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated DEI positions and administrative appointments, and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors,” the memo issued by the university provost, the general counsel, and the vice president for human resources read.

The $5 million allocated for diversity, equity and inclusion will now be redistributed to faculty recruitment, it added.

The announcement comes in light of a 2023 statute prohibiting the university from spending state or federal funds on DEI initiatives, reported the Alligator, the school’s paper.

The statute was approved in its final form by the Florida Board of Governors on Jan. 24, the outlet added.

The memo did not touch on the future of the Center for Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement, which received over $400,000 in the 2022-2023 UF operating budget – 85% of which came from the state, the Alligator noted.

The center includes officers for LGBTQ+, black, Asian and Hispanic student groups, according to its website.

Migrant housing construction meeting sees Maine resident asking "am I too white ?"
[MAIL] Residents of a Maine town have hit out at the $13million construction of a complex of 60 apartments for asylum seekers, where they can live rent free for two years then pay a fraction of the rental price.

Locals in Brunswick have expressed fury over the project, which is being funded by a mix of private and public money and which has been heavily criticized by Donald Trump Jr.

The apartment complex in Brunswick is one of the many projects being launched by the town in what critics have labeled a 'Taj Mahal', red-carpet welcome for asylum seekers.

There are currently 180 apartments in the Brunswick Landing complex available for anyone to rent. A one bedroom unit costs $1,800 a month, while a two-bedroom costs $2,300 a month.

The new buildings for asylum seekers will allow residents to live rent-free for up to two years while they obtain work permits.

Then, if they obtain a job that pays half of the average local salary of $60,000, they will only have to pay a third of the rental price. It boils down to a monthly cost of around $500 for a one bedroom, and $690 for a two bedroom.

Even the BBC wouldn’t support that claim, though they completely ignore the lawfare court cases ginned up against the wall that slowed building significantly.

Bomb threat forces president Mnangagwa to cancel trip to Victoria Falls
[AFRICANEWS] A bomb scare shut down Zim-bob-we's Victoria Falls Airport on Friday, forcing the country's president to cancel a planned address at a conference on renewable energy, an official said.

Zim-bob-wean President Edson Mnangagwa was due to address the conference in the morning, but "had to suspend his trip to allow for investigations which are already underway," presidential front man George Charamba said.

Authorities couldn't confirm local media reports that the president's plane made a U-turn while traveling to the conference.

Charamba said that airport authorities were informed by Fastjet airline about an email sent "by a John Doe" claiming a "credible bomb/firearm threat" targeting Zim-bob-we's airports.

Security systems are "now on heightened alert," Charamba said, urging people to be calm while investigations proceed.

"While our country is peaceful, and all our ports of entry are well secured, such alerts on possible terrorist attacks are taken very seriously," he said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Zim-bob-we said that the incident had forced some flights to divert or delay landing, and more disruptions were likely "to allow for the continuous monitoring of the environment."

While such incidents are unusual in southern African countries, a 2018 explosion in Zim-bob-we's second-largest city, Bulawayo, killed two people and maimed about 50 others during a campaign rally before the presidential election that year.

Mnangagwa, who said the blast occurred just "inches" from him, was unharmed. But two vice presidents and other brass hats were among the maimed, and two security aides later died from their injuries. Two men who were arrested after the earth-shattering kaboom were later freed for a lack of evidence.

Alexander Stubb officially takes office as President of Finland
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Alexander Stubb took the oath of office on March 1 and took office as President of Finland; his inauguration was broadcast live on Finnish television.

The new president made a solemn speech in the country's parliament.

“We are now experiencing a new era. As a result of our military alliance and NATO membership, we have taken the final step into the Western community of values to which the Republic of Finland has belonged in spirit throughout its independence. The post-Cold War era is over,” he said.

Stubb said that the advent of a new period of history, in his opinion, is associated with Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.

As reported by IA Regnum, the candidate from the National Coalition Party and former Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb won the second round of the presidential elections in Finland on February 11. According to the country's Ministry of Justice, after 100% of the votes were counted, Stubb won 51.6% of the popular vote. His opponent in the second round, former Finnish Foreign Minister Pekke Haavisto, received 48.4% of the vote.

Stubb has proven himself to be an active supporter of the Euro-Atlantic and anti-Russian course, as noted earlier by IA Regnum observers. He opposed Russian membership in the UN Security Council, as well as for the refusal of full relations with Russia while Russian troops “are in Ukraine,” and supported the confiscation of frozen Russian assets and their use to assist Kyiv.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the results of the elections in Finland, previously stated: Russia remains hopeful that the new head of the country will have a balanced approach to the topic of Russian-Finnish relations. The Kremlin representative also noted that Finland is currently classified as an unfriendly country, recalling that Helsinki has fully joined the anti-Russian sanctions.

Judge Cannon Admonishes Special Counsel's Prosecutor, Says Jack Smith's Proposed July 8 Trial Date in Classified Docs Case ‘Unrealistic’
[Gateway] In a blow to Jack Smith, Judge Aileen Cannon on Friday said his proposed July 8 trial date in the classified documents case against Trump is "unrealistic."

Hundreds of Trump supporters lined the streets of Fort Pierce, Florida to cheer President Trump on his way to court in his latest hearing of the Jack Smith lawfare case. Friday’s hearing in Florida was about possibly moving the classified documents trial back until late summer.

Special Counsel Jack Smith on Thursday proposed a new trial date for the classified documents case playing out in a federal court in Southern Florida. The classified documents trial was scheduled to begin on May 20, however, Jack Smith asked for the trial to begin on July 8 in a court filing on Thursday.

This new proposed date of July 8 is the week before the RNC convention (more election interference). President Trump on Thursday asked for the classified documents trial to begin on August 12.

Trump arrived at the courthouse shortly before 10 am ET. He was flanked by his attorneys and co-defendants. Jack Smith was also in court on Friday.

Excellent: Senator Katie Britt Chosen to Deliver GOP Response to State of the Union Address
[Hot Air] Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell chose Senator Katie Britt (R=AL) to deliver the Republican response to President Biden's State of the Union Address. This is an excellent choice.

Katie Britt will provide a sharp contrast to Joe Biden. That is important this year. Joe Biden is physically and mentally challenged to complete a cohesive speech. Media accounts of his State of the Union Address last year were so complimentary that even the legacy journos must have felt the need for a shower afterward. They take their job to protect Biden and support his re-election seriously, to the detriment of American voters.

In contrast, Katie Britt is articulate and able to focus like a laser on the topic at hand. She delivers a message skillfully to keep her audience's attention while showing passion for the subject.

We know age is a huge issue in this election. Joe Biden is an old 81. Katie Britt is a young but mature 42-years-old. She was elected to the Senate and took office in 2023. She is the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate. Katie was chief of staff for her predecessor, Senator Richard Shelby, for two years. She has experience in the business world with her husband. She worked in her family's small business as she grew up. Her real-world experience serves her political career well.
