Military service member found dead in Pentagon parking lot
[FoxNews] A military service member was found dead in a vehicle parked outside the Pentagon Tuesday afternoon, according to a Defense Department spokesperson.

Pentagon press secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said officers responded to a call for a welfare check when they found the body of the unidentified individual.

"At approximately 3:30 p.m. EDT today the Pentagon Operations Center received a call requesting a welfare check on a military service member," Ryder said.

Ryder said Pentagon police officers responded to the North Parking, where they discovered the service member in his vehicle apparently deceased.

Arlington County Emergency Medical Services also responded and confirmed the individual was deceased, according to the spokesperson.

No additional details on the individual's identity or cause of death were provided.

An investigation into the death is ongoing.

-Great Cultural Revolution
There's a Growing 'Trad-Wife' Trend That's Making Feminists Furious
[REDSTATE] It started with young women half-joking about being angry with the feminist movement for "liberating" women so they now have to get up to go to work to pay their own bills.

The BBC made a skit off the back of this complaint that, while meant as a joke, ended up being a perfect way that described how many women felt about their "liberation." They say the left can’t meme, but this skit proves they can do so ironically.

Then a trend on TikTok began emerging that gained traction very quickly. It was women simply posting their daily lives as traditional housewives. They cooked, they cleaned, they looked nice for their breadwinning husband, and they took care of the children during the day.

It’s a trend being called "tradwife."

As you can see in some of the TikToks, there are quite a bit of aesthetic choices taken from the 1950s, from the hairstyles to the manner of dress.

You know in the western world of the modern day, this wasn’t going to fly with many, many people, namely women. The reasons are varied. Some are wives who don’t want their husbands to see a woman doing something that would make them look bad or set "unrealistic expectations" about their marriage while some called this TikTok content a "kink."

But for feminists, this trend is dangerous because it invites a return to the sexism and racism of old. As Fox News reported, various mainstream publications have now jumped on the trend, attempting to discredit and excoriate it as evil:

"The new trend for submissive women has a dark heart and history," reads one headline from The Guardian.

An article from Hypebae slapped the videos as "disturbing," writing "[they] typically feature a cis straight white women, longing for the ’50s — an era where some women could opt out of participate in the corporate working world and be stay-at-home mothers instead."

And a third from Grazia magazine accused the trend of "romanticizing an era where sexism and racism ruled."
What nonsense! None of the housewives, or the four house-husbands I have known, are in the least bit submissive. Many had successful careers before choosing to trade in their paycheck in order to rear their children themselves instead of leaving them to nannies and day care. But what was seen as an executive class luxury not so long ago (and a quirky choice by some of the crunchy granola class) quickly became a necessity during the Covid shutdown, and TikTok and YouTube are seen as a good way to teach/learn these new skills. The clothing and hairstyles are just a fad that will pass quickly, and anyway are not limited to the happy housewife crowd.
My mother and father actually liked each other. They would sometimes holler at each other, but not very often. Usually it was at one or all of their five kids. In a non-birth control age, somebody had to make a living and somebody had to watch the kids.

My grandmothers, with one exception, on both sides and great grandmothers were all handy with fire arms when it came to protecting home and hearth. That from 2 and 4 legged predators.

Mrs Cesare as well; we complain and joke about each other but we are traditional partners and glad of it.

Of course the idea that you need some kind of external catalyst to enrage a feminist laughably flies in the face of all known human experience.

#4  Funny ... I just searched for "tradwife" in my browser and each of the top hits, the full first page of responses was from a site bitterly critical of the "tradwife" phenom. So is it a real thing then, when the critics are this worried? Or just odd that for such a strong trend that it has no easily identifiable web "home." So flavor of the straw argument?

Chinese companies and founders rush to calm investors after SVB collapse
[CNN of all places] In China, at least a dozen firms have issued statements since SVB collapsed trying to pacify investors or clients, saying that their exposure to the lender was limited. Most were biotech companies.
Bailout urgency fully explained.
BeiGene, one of China’s largest cancer-focused drug companies, said Monday it had more than $175 million uninsured cash deposits at SVB, which represents approximately 3.9% of its cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments.

"The company does not expect the recent developments with SVB to significantly impact its operations," it said.

People line up outside of the shuttered Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) headquarters on March 10, 2023 in Santa Clara, California. Silicon Valley Bank was shut down on Friday morning by California regulators and was put in control of the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Prior to being shut down by regulators, shares of SVB were halted Friday morning after falling more than 60% in premarket trading following a 60% declined on Thursday when the bank sold off a portfolio of US Treasuries and $1.75 billion in shares to cover declining customer deposits.

TAKEAWAYS FROM AMERICA'S SECOND-LARGEST BANK FAILURE
Zai Lab, a pharmaceutical firm, announced that its cash deposits at SVB were "immaterial" at about $23 million.

The closure of SVB "will not have an impact" on the company’s ability to meet its operating expenses and capital expenditure requirements, including payroll, it said.

Other companies that publicly assured investors included Andon Health, Sirnaomics, Everest Medicines, Broncus Medical, Jacobio Pharmaceuticals, Brii Biosciences, CStone Pharmaceuticals, Genor Biopharma and CANbridge Pharmaceuticals.

Mobile ad tech firm Mobvista and wealth management firm Noah Holdings said their cash holdings at SVB were "minimal" or "immaterial."

Popular selfie app Meitu said it hadn’t held any bank accounts at SVB since 2020. It issued a statement "to avoid any potential public misunderstanding."

Ascletis Pharma, MicroPort NeuroTech, Antengene Corp, and Suzhou Basecare Medical Corporation also denied they had any deposits or business dealings with SVB.

Pan Shiyi, co-founder and former chairman of Soho China, a major Beijing-based property developer, denied he had any money at SVB after reports went viral on social media that he had lost billions of yuan.

"We never opened an account with Silicon Valley Bank, nor placed a deposit," he said late Sunday on his Weibo account.

Car Dealerships Hit With Profitability Squeeze As Auto Industry Cracks
[ZERO] Auto dealerships are encountering a major problem where auction (wholesale) prices are increasing while real book values stagnate, squeezing profitability.

To make sense of this, auto-guru CarDealershipGuy expanded on our tweet, pointing out that Manheim wholesale auto prices are re-accelerating while other indexes tracking prices were flat.

Here's what was revealed in the conversation as per the auto expert:
Manheim is tracking auctions. Dealers ARE paying more for cars. A LOT more. But the issue dealers are running into is SELLING those cars.

JD Power - one of the industry's main sources of Vehicle Book Values that auto lenders rely on to value collateral - hasn't materially adjusted upwards.

This has left dealers high-and-dry and without a profitable outlet for all the inventory they just acquired for OVER book value.

And that is leading to lots of dealers selling cars to consumers at a front-end LOSS (meaning, lose money on actual cars) while hoping to make it up on the back-end (with value-added products like warranties).

Speaking for myself, our vehicle purchase price has slightly RISEN but our ASP (average sale price) has barely budged.

Separately, CarDealershipGuy went even more in-depth about underwater auto dealerships in a recent blog post:
Cars are appreciating again and this presents problems for both dealerships and consumers. Here's why:

Ask any dealer and they will tell you that appreciating wholesale prices is a phenomenon we haven't seen since the craziness of 2021. There hasn't been a tax season where we've seen wholesale prices for mainstream, bread-and-butter cars at $3K above the "book value." [Book values are current wholesale and retail market price estimates provided by various publishers, such as NADA, Kelly Blue Book, Black Book, JD Power, and other companies]

Look at this example from a recent sale at an auction:

'Rapid Deterioration': Major Rating Service Downgrades U.S. Banking System
[TOWNHALL] Moody's — one of three major rating entities — downgraded its outlook for the U.S. banking system from "stable" to "negative" on Tuesday morning "to reflect the rapid deterioration in the operating environment following deposit runs at Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), Silvergate Bank, and Signature Bank (SNY) and the failures of SVB and SNY," Moody's explained.

In addition to downgrading the entire banking system, Moody's also issued warnings for several individual banks "with substantial unrealized securities losses and with non-retail and uninsured US depositors" that "may still be more sensitive to depositor competition or ultimate flight" and end up "with adverse effects on funding, liquidity, earnings and capital."

The specific institutions being monitored by Moody's for "potential downgrades" include INTRUST Financial, Western Alliance, Comerica, Zions Bancorp, and First Republic.

Markets, however, did not seem to move much on the news.

The recent issue with U.S. banks is one that came about, as Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) explained this week, through actions taken by the Federal Reserve.

The Fed took those actions in a bid to tackle inflation created by the Biden administration, the guys that caused the debacle in Afghanistan
...the collection of boodlers, grifters, hangers-on, and self-proclaimed experts affiliated with the Biden Crime Family. Entrusted with an entire nation as the result of a suspicious election, they set about happily implementing stuff they absorbed in college, all of which blew up and splattered the rest of us...
's tax-and-spend agenda. The Biden administration then stepped in, after banks failed amid a high interest rate environment, to bail out the failed institution, reacting to a swirling economic mess for which he's almost solely responsible. As always, Biden swooped in with an alleged "solution" to a problem he created. And it's straight out of the Big Government™ playbook.

Europe
Swedish leader: Finland likely to join NATO before Sweden
[An Nahar] Sweden's prime minister acknowledged Tuesday that it is likely that neighbor Finland will join NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
before his country does, due to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
's opposition to the Swedish bid.

Ulf Kristersson said during a news conference in Stockholm on Tuesday that it has been clear since NATO's Madrid summit in June that Finland's road into membership has been smoother than Sweden's, and that it is now increasingly likely that Finland will enter NATO first.

Turkey accuses both nations, but particularly Sweden, of being too soft on groups it deems to be terror organizations or existential threats to Turkey, including Kurdish groups. Last month, Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Ankara has fewer problems with Finland joining.

Since they announcing their intention to join the military alliance in May last year, Finland and Sweden have consistently stressed that they would become members of the military alliance at the same time "hand in hand."

Now, however, Kristersson told news hounds, "it's not out of the question that Sweden and Finland will be ratified in different stages."

All 30 existing members of NATO have to approve a new member. They all signed the accession protocols for Finland and Sweden last year, and 28 of them have ratified the texts for both countries. Hungarian politicians earlier this month started debating the Nordic duo's membership bids and Budapest may ratify them by the end of March, leaving Turkey as the final holdout. It says it is still seeking guarantees and assurances from the two countries.

Kristersson said that the ultimate decision is in Turkey's hands and that Sweden is ready to handle a situation where Finland enters NATO without Sweden.

He repeated what NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said previously, that it would only be a delay.

"Basically, this is not about whether Sweden becomes a NATO member but about when Sweden becomes a NATO member," Kristersson told news hounds.

Trans Women Have a Hard Time Getting Screened for Cervical Cancer
[CanadianCancerSociety] It can be difficult to make cancer screening a priority, especially when there's not a lot of information out there about cervical cancer risks for trans women. You may also be concerned about things like experiencing transphobia during the screening process.

Still it's important to take care of your health by getting the cancer screening you need.
How can someone get cervical cancer without having a cervix?
Any living tissue can develop cancer. And cancer from another tissue in the body can metastasize anywhere in the body. So the fake cervix can become cancerous — just not with cervical cancer — and because it is hidden from the patient, getting a doctor to check that everything is as it should be is simply good hygiene. Calling it cervical cancer, though, is straightforward catering to dysphoria.

Government Corruption
Failed California Bank Was Major Donor, Supporter To Newsom Family Nonprofit
[Daily Caller] Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the California firm that collapsed late last week after a bank run, donated $100,000 to a nonprofit founded by the Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom, auditors at Open the Books, a nonprofit dedicated to transparency in government spending, discovered.

In 2021, SVB contributed $100,000 in a "behested" corporate gift to California Partners Project (CPP), meaning it was given "at the request, suggestion, or solicitation of, or made in cooperation, consultation, coordination or concert with the public official" — in this case, with Newsom himself, filings show. The $100,000 payment was paid in four installments of $25,000, with three of them being described as a "General grant to support gender equity in corporate governance," referring to CPP’s stated mission of promoting "gender equity across the state." President Trump Hosts "Ask Me Anything" Following Iowa Speech – Video
[Last Refuge] At the conclusion of his speech and remarks at a campaign rally event in Davenport, Iowa, President Trump did something very few candidates would ever do, he held an impromptu "ask me anything."

A microphone was given to the audience and President Trump took unscripted questions, delivering answers directly from him, "off the cuff." Most political consultants would recoil from their managed candidate exposing themselves to any random audience question. However, for President Trump the opportunity reflects just another example of an outsider speaking directly to the people he asks to represent. The video of the Q&A is below and represents the authentic nature of "The People’s President." WATCH:

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel judicial reforms: Ex-Mossad chief Yatom warns of 'dictatorship'
[France24] In an interview with FRANCE 24 from Tel Aviv, former Mossad chief Danny Yatom expressed deep concern at the prospect of Israel becoming a "dictatorship". For weeks, Israel has been rocked by a wave of protests against a bill that would curtail the independence of the country's highest court. Yatom claimed the bill was an attempt by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "run away from the trial he is facing" on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust. Yatom also criticised Netanyahu's coalition partners for backing the legislation.

At least 70 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and 13 Israelis have died in attacks since the start of 2023. Asked if a third Intifada is under way, former Mossad chief Yatom said: "I don't think that anyone can answer precisely," but insisted Israel will continue to fight terrorism "without any limitation" and make sure its "people will be safe wherever they go, including the West Bank".

However, the Israeli government "should speak about what it intends to do in order to make the lives of the Palestinians easier", he added.

Yatom also regretted the events that took place in Huwara on February 26. In this West Bank town, Israeli settlers set homes and cars on fire, resulting in one Palestinian being shot dead and many injured. The rampage came in response to the murder of two Israeli brothers by a Palestinian.

"The government cannot allow the Israelis to take the law into their own hands (...) Such an event should not happen again because it encourages the extremists of both sides," he concluded.

Science & Technology
Cue the Rainbow....
[Via CFP] Scientists in Japan say they have succeeded in breeding mice with two fathers, using eggs originating from male cells. While the scientific breakthrough could pave the way for new fertility treatments, experts say it is still a long way from being used in humans.
Why new fertility treatments when there's already too many to feed?
Populations are reaching and passing birth/death tipping points in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. Fertility treatments that are cheaper and easier than those currently available may be what keeps the Japanese, Spaniards, and Russians from going extinct in their native ranges. Ditto cheetahs and white rhinos.
Katsuhiko Hayashi, a renowned biologist at the University of Osaka, said his team had used chromosomal engineering to breed seven "healthy" mice pups, hailing a "first case of making robust mammal oocytes (eggs) from male cells".
