SVB donated $73M to Black Lives Matter movement, social justice causes
[NYPOST] Silicon Valley Bank, which collapsed on Friday after a classic bank run, donated more than $73 million to groups related to the Black Lives Matter movement, online records show.

A database from the conservative Claremont Institute shows the bank donated around $73,450,000 to the BLM movement and other social justice-related causes.

As first reported by The Federalist, the now-defunct bank pledged in the summer of 2020 — when the nation was gripped by racial unrest after the police custody death of St. George Floyd
...the patron saint of Minneapolis, a sterling example for our children and indeed for us all. St. George was martyed by the Devil's agents in blue while standing on a street corner preaching tolerance and racial justice or something like that...
— to increase its commitment to "diversity, equipment, and inclusion (DEI)" in the workplace.

A report from August 2020 highlighted the fact that around two-thirds of the bank’s workforce met the "diversity" criteria.

Another report that year touted SVB’s achievements in supporting minorities.

In an introductory letter to the report, CEO Greg Becker said SVB touted employee matching programs that focused on "pandemic response, social justice, sustainability, and supporting women, Black and Latinx emerging talent, and other underrepresented groups."

#1  There are 5000 banks in the US. The 2 or 3 that failed are tied to the most corrupt Democrats. And Deep State (Federal Regulators) were covering for them.

#2  Around $73M? I don't care if they had billions in assets, I'd have been one pretty pissed off shareholder.

Evidently Gov. Gavin Gruesome and his old lady had some strong connections to this bank as well (surprise, surprise).

Do not underrate Al-Shabaab and ISIS threat in Somalia, experts tell leaders
[Garowe] The federal government of Somalia and regional states have been warned against underestimating the potential of al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...

and IS-Somalia bully boys, with officials stating that the Lions of Islam since posing a threat in the Horn of Africa nation despite suffering a series of defeats following the recent crackdown.

Recently, the group managed to attack the Jana Cabdalla military base in Jubaland, and on Tuesday, they targeted Bandhere town in the Gedo region where the regional governor survived death. This, officials say, demonstrates that the group's potential cannot be underestimated despite potential wins across the country.

"I believe on one hand they have been slightly maimed, but their strength remains intact," two-time former Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke told VOA. "They have been making tactical retreats lately, but their force cannot be underestimated."

The governor of the troubled Bakool region Mohammed Abdi Tall insisted that the group is predominant in Southwest and Jubaland, noting that the government is planning a final offensive which he believes will be useful in completely dislodging them from their hideouts across the country.

Tall said the country is large and it will require support from the federal government and volunteers to participate in the operations against al-Shabaab. He says the group has been recruiting fighters and could be having over 20,000 staunch followers in the country.

"For 15 years they have been recruiting, they readied lots of fighters," he said. "They had lots of power. Since they have been removed from regions, we assess their strength has been destroyed, but we are not underestimating them."

Hussein Sheikh-Ali, the national security adviser to the president of Somalia, gave a lower number for al-Shabaab's fighting personnel. "My assessment, plus or minus, is they are 10,000," he said. "The last estimate I had a couple of years ago was 14,000, but since then I don’t believe they have trained adequate numbers, and they have been involved in too many fights."

Sheikh Ali insisted that al-Shabaab lost "more than a thousand" fighters within the past six months and "probably would have 2,000-3,000 injured" as a result of the military operations. According to him, the government is not underestimating al-Shabaab.

"I have been somebody who always when people were underestimating Shabaab, used to warn people not to underestimate them," he said. "But now, because they have no support from the population, their days are numbered."

On the other hand, IS-Somalia and al-Shabaab reportedly clashed this week in northern Somalia as the rivalry between the two groups intensified. While ISIS-Somalia is still smaller in size, experts believe the group still pposesa danger in the country.

IS-Somalia is a splinter group that was created by Sheikh Abdulkadir Mumin, an al-Shabaab defector, and is mainly domiciled in Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
, a state in the northern part of the country. Ahmed Mohamoud Yusuf, the commissioner of Balidhidhin, a frontline district in Puntland, told VOA that IS Lions of Islam have been recruiting Æthiopian fighters in recent years.

"It’s not easy to say the exact figure," Yusuf said when asked about the number of Æthiopian fighters, he said, noting that the group could be having about 300 active fighters with Æthiopians believed to have been recruited.

"ISIS has always targeted Æthiopia and other African states for recruits, its main limitation is that its physical presence is limited to a very small district in northern Somalia east of Bosaso, where it has almost no vegetation, limited cover," said Matt Bryden, Horn of Africa regional analyst.

"It moves its fighters between caves and settlements and cannot establish a viable operational presence. So however much it tries to recruit from across the continent, it really doesn't have a solid base from which to project influence and power."

The US applauded the killing of Bilal al-Sudani, in a special operation by U.S. forces in the Cal-Miskaad mountains. The U.S. hailed the killing of al-Sudani in the January 26 counterterrorism operation. He was described as a "key operative and controller for ISIS global network, as well as a number of other ISIS operatives."

His real name was Al Suhayl Salim and is said to have arrived in Somalia in 2006 along with his brother, Suhayb, seeking jihad in Somalia, defectors said. Besides competing for control of the country, the two groups are separately determined to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia.

#1  For the life of me I can't discern Somalia's strategy. Instead of fighting on three fronts at once, why not use locals, Kenya, AU troops with US support to clear the area south of the Juba River and use Kismayo as a base of operations. Once that is done, then move north to destroy Shabaab south of Mogadiscu. With the lower half of Somalia cleared then move north to fight Shabaab in the most difficult of all regions and where a holding operation should be taking place until the southern half of Somalia can be cleared.

Who is Glowing in the Dark?
[HotAir] Reuters was the first to report this as an exclusive a few hours ago. IAEA inspectors visited a site in Libya and found that 2.5 tons of "natural uranium" has gone missing.
A year late.
The finding is the result of an inspection originally planned for last year that "had to be postponed because of the security situation in the region" and was finally carried out on Tuesday, according to the confidential statement by International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi.

IAEA inspectors "found that 10 drums containing approximately 2.5 tons of natural uranium in the form of UOC (uranium ore concentrate) previously declared by (Libya) ... as being stored at that location were not present at the location," the one-page statement said.
Did they look under the bed? The pantry? The broom closet?
In a statement the IAEA said, "The loss of knowledge about the present location of nuclear material may present a radiological risk." It is a risk but according to this factsheet, Uranium ore concentrate, also known as yellowcake, emits a fairly low level of radiation.

Radiation from uranium ore concentrate is quite low. Although uranium is a source of ionizing radiation — electrically charged particles called ions that generate a lot of energy — the radiation risk associated with uranium concentrate is easily managed by simple steps such as limiting the time of direct exposure to the material. Workers who work with uranium concentrate typically use gloves and a respirator for protection.

So this is potentially dangerous if you don’t know what it is and don’t limit your exposure to it but it’s not suitable for use in a reactor or a bomb as is. Still, there are people out there (Iran and North Korea come to mind) who have the facilities to make this raw material more dangerous. And the fact that we don’t know where it went is obviously concerning.
Where oh were has my uranium gone? Where oh where can it be?
Adding to the concern is the fact that Libya’s government remains a chaotic mess. There was supposed to be an election in December 2021 but it was postponed until 2022 for a number of reasons.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
The court refused to return the Eldzharkiev murder case to the prosecutor's office
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] At today's meeting on the case of the murder of the head of the Ingush Center for Combating Extremism. Ibragim Eldzharkiev and his brother, the defense filed a motion to return the case to the prosecutor's office, but the court refused to satisfy it.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, 2022, the Investigative Committee announced the completion of the investigation into the criminal case of Khasan Polonkoev and 10 others accused of the murder of Ibragim Eldzharkiev and his brother.
The accused killers, known as Batalkhadzhins, are followers of Sheikh Batal-Khadji (also known as Batal-haji Belkharoyev), revered as a Sufi Islam teacher during the early part of the 20th century in Ingushetia and other parts of the North Caucasus. They appear to engage in the usual misbehaviours common to the region.
Investigators consider Polonkoev the organizer and leader of the terrorist community operating in Ingushetia, and the rest of the accused are members of this community. At the first meeting in the Southern District Military Court, which took place on February 8, the defendants refused to plead guilty.

The head of the Ingush Center for Combating Extremism, Ibragim Eldzharkiev, was shot dead in Moscow on November 2, 2019, along with his brother Akhmed Eldzharkiev. The main facts about the murder of Ibragim Eldzharkiev and the conclusions of the investigation are collected in the brief information of the "Caucasian Knot" "The main thing about the murder of Ibragim Eldzharkiev."

The court rejected the defense's request to return to the prosecutor's office the criminal case on the murder of the head of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Ingushetia, Ibragim Eldzharkiev, at a meeting in the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don, TASS reported today. "The court ruled to deny the motion of the defense to return the criminal case to the prosecutor's office," the agency quoted the judge as saying.

The case went to court on December 23, 2022. Since that moment, defenders of the defendants have sent six complaints to the Military Court of Appeal, all of them have been accepted for consideration. Today, the second hearing in the case took place, information about the date of the new hearing is not contained in the case card on the website of the Southern District Military Court by 21.00 Moscow time.

According to investigators, in 2019 the defendants committed two terrorist attacks against Ibragim Eldzharkiev. "As a result of the second attack, committed in November 2019 in Moscow, the latter (Ibragim Eldzharkiev) and his brother were killed," the press service of the Investigative Committee said.

The first assassination attempt on Ibragim Eldzharkiev took place on January 12, 2019. His car was fired upon on the federal highway, the three policemen who were in it  were  injured, but Eldzharkiev himself was not injured. After Eldzharkiev's assassination, sources suggested that he was killed in a blood feud amid his conflict with  the Batalkhadzhins, one of whose leaders, Ibragim Belkharoev, was killed in 2018. However, investigators stated in January 2020 that Ibragim Eldzharkiev's professional activities were the motive for the murder, and versions of religious motives and revenge were not confirmed.

Lawyers for one of the accused, Alikhan Belkharoev, have repeatedly complained about not being allowed to see him in the pre-trial detention center in Vladikavkaz. In January 2021, Alikhan Belkharoev told his lawyers that  the security forces had tortured him in order to force him to confess.

Raad, the wife of Muhammad Zahab,

a senior ISIS fighter, who left Australia in 2013 and is believed to have died in 2018, was arrested by the Australian authorities on Jan.5.

The woman was repatriated to Australia in October 2022 from Roj camp in northeastern Syria along with three other women and 13 children of ISIS family members.

Roj is one of several detention camps in northeast Syria that house thousands of people, including many foreign nationals, since the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS declared the territorial defeat of the terror group in March 2019.

It currently houses 806 families, including 2.800 individuals of Arabs and foreigners, mostly women and kiddies of ISIS members who hail from 62 countries, according to previous report published by North Press.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard responsible for German synagogue shooting, officials say
[IsraelTimes] Ramin Yektaparast, an Iranian biker gang leader, suspected by US and German intelligence of operating on behalf of IRGC in November 2021 attack

After a century-old synagogue in Essen, Germany, was struck by two bullets last November, news reports connected it to the shooting at a synagogue in Halle three years earlier that had been perpetrated by a far-right German hard boy.

But authorities quickly connected the Essen shooting to a different kind of perpetrator: Ramin Yektaparast, a biker gang leader wanted on suspicion of murder in Germany who now lives in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites....
and is accused of directing antisemitic attacks from there.

German intelligence officials revealed in December that they believed the Essen shooting and two other synagogue attacks at the same time had ties to Iran. Last week, The Washington Post quoted anonymous German and US intelligence sources who named Yektarapast as a suspect, and as an alleged asset of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps. The United States considers the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, though Germany does not.
Cuz that would make it harder to have lucrative commercial relationships?
Yektarapast fled from Germany to Iran in 2021 after being suspected of the grisly murder of a fellow member of the Hells Angels gang. Involving criminals in terrorism plots is part of Iran’s playbook, a former US counterterrorism official told the Washington Post.

Matthew Levitt, a fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said Iranian agents have seen high-level liquidation plans foiled and now are turning to "softer" targets in their efforts to sow terror and harm their country’s enemies.

"That’s when the plots targeting Jews come into play," Levitt said.

Reports of Iran-linked terror cells targeting Jews or Israelis in Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
have been widespread in recent years. Last summer, as a record number of Israelis visited The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, Israel’s intelligence service, the Mossad, and its Ottoman Turkish counterpart, hunted through Istanbul for an Iranian cell. The cell had reportedly been tasked with targeting Israeli tourists in retaliation for the killing of an Iranian colonel in Tehran, allegedly by Israeli operatives.

Later last year, the Washington Post reported that Iran had targeted prominent Jews and Israelis around the world, including the French Jewish philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy. Josef Schuster, the head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, has also been targeted, according to German authorities.

Iran’s attacks on Jewish and Israeli targets abroad are not new. Multiple investigations have implicated Iranian agents in the bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires in 1994, which killed 85 people. Officially, the case remains unsolved. Two of the agents suspected in the bombing are among Iran’s bigwigs today.

The reports of Iranian involvement in attacks against Jews in Germany come as the country has reported a rise in antisemitic hate crimes. National data showed a 29 percent rise in reported hate crimes against Jews in 2021 compared to the previous year. This week, new data from Berlin showed that reports of antisemitic crimes rose sharply in 2022, with nearly 700 incidents reported compared to 386 in 2019, according to Judische Allgemeine, a German-Jewish newspaper. The incidents included both violent mostly peaceful and nonviolent mostly peaceful incidents, including vandalism.

That period coincided with an anti-vaccination movement that included comparisons between pandemic restrictions and the Holocaust, a possible crime under Germany’s restrictive laws against Holocaust denial and minimization. In Munich, for example, a Jewish leader filed antisemitic harassment charges against two leaders of a protest rally on Kristallnacht, the anniversary of the acceleration of the Nazis’ campaign against the Jews.

That period also saw a crackdown on activity by far-right holy warriors in Germany. Authorities arrested dozens of people in December who they said were planning to try to overthrow the government. Last May, German police found explosives and antisemitic, far-right literature at the home of a teenager they suspected of planning to attack a school, also in Essen.

Germany announced a comprehensive plan to combat antisemitism in December, the country’s first.

Democrats to Skip Another Border Hearing, Claim GOP Going to Texas ‘to Attack' Biden
[Breitbart] Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee are skipping a hearing in Texas on Wednesday, marking the second instance this year of a group of congressional Democrats refusing to attend an official field hearing at the border with Republicans.

Committee ranking member Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said Democrats made the decision “after careful consideration” and accused Republicans of “traveling to the border to attack the Administration” instead of going on a “fact-finding mission.”

Democrats’ refusal to attend this particular hearing, which is set to take place in the busy Rio Grande Valley Border Sector, means they will miss the opportunity to question a key federal witness of the ongoing migration crisis, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz.

Committee chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) called their decision “deeply disappointing” in a statement provided to Breitbart News, noting Democrats had also invited and confirmed their own witness, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official Steven Cagan, for one of the hearing’s panels before announcing they would not be present for the event.

“The only message their absence sends is that they are uninterested in coming to the table to have a conversation about the devastation that this border crisis is having on Americans and their communities across the country,” Green said. “We will continue to encourage our Democrat colleagues to get out of the DC echo chamber and meet Americans where they are to discuss the biggest issues facing them.”

Thompson’s announcement about the hearing comes after Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee declined to attend a border hearing in February, falsely claiming they were not properly consulted about it. Judiciary Democrats predicted the hearing, which took place in Yuma, Arizona, would be a “brazen act of political grandstanding.”

The hearing featured a Yuma hospital CEO, a local sheriff, and a county supervisor testifying to Congress about the direct impacts of the flood of migrants crossing the border illegally into the U.S.

Kurdistan Parliament swears in the first lawmaker wearing a Niqab

[Shafaq News] Leyla Ali, a female member of the Kurdistan Islamic Movement,
...founded in the late ‘80s by a buncha Kurdish Islamic scholars in the Halabja region. It’s the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in Iraqi Kurdistan, and receives significant funding from the governments of Iran and Saudi Arabia...
made history on Wednesday as she took the oath in the Kurdistan parliament while wearing a niqab.

The occasion marks the first time a woman wearing a face veil had taken the oath since the establishment of the parliament.

The swearing-in ceremony was held specifically for new politicians who replaced resigning members of the Islamic Movement of Kurdistan.

Ali took the seat of Sarkhnar Ahmad, who resigned from the parliament, and took the oath in the presence of the parliament's speaker, fellow politicians, and media representatives.

The Islamic Movement of Kurdistan confirmed on Tuesday that its members had taken the constitutional oath as parliamentarians.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
SNA resumes illegal dismantling of Syria’s Afrin railroads – STJ
[NPASyria] According to Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ), a local watchdog, Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian opposition factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) in Afrin, northwest Syria, are heavily involved in the illegal dismantling and theft of the region’s Ottoman-era railway network.

The report mentions several SNA factions, including Hamza Division, Sultan Suleiman Shah Division, Sultan Murad Division, and Ahrar al-Sharqiya, as participants in the dismantling and trade of the railroad, particularly in Afrin’s north-western Rajo district. In one instance, the Military Police, an outfit established by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, was involved in the theft of railroad steel.

Using exclusive photos provided by North Press and other local news sites, as well as statements from SNA sources, STJ reconstructs the SNA’s illegal trade. According to the report, the Ottoman Turkish governor of Hatay, who has overseen the Afrin region since 2018, as well Ottoman Turkish intelligence officials, forbid the theft of the railroads shortly after the invasion.

Both highlighted the "importance of the railway as an Ottoman symbol and a future project in the region."

In January 2018, Ottoman Turkish forces, supported by SNA factions, invaded and occupied the Afrin region, which until then had been majority-Kurdish. Around 300.000 original inhabitants were displaced. Turkey has since then established settlements for Arab Syrians in Afrin in what some observers have called a policy of "ethnic engineering."

The theft and sale of railroad steel resumed in 2022, likely due to changes in Ottoman Turkish intelligence staff in the region, as well as Ankara’s priorities. STJ recorded the dismantling of over 22 kilometers of railroad last year and in the first three months of 2023, including from the Hasharge bridge in Rajo district.

According to STJ, the mental scraps are used by SNA factions on the frontlines with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and government forces, or sold in the cities of Idlib, al-Bab and Hama, where they can be used in the construction of hangers and chicken farms. A kilogram of steel can earn SNA factions between 2.500 and 3.000 Syrian pounds (SYP, equals $0.30-0.40).

Salameh he fails to show up
[An Nahar] Central bank chief Riad Salameh
...Governor of Lebanon'scentral bank, Banque du Liban since April 1993. Salameh was appointed Governor by decree, approved by the Council of Ministers for a renewable term of six years. He was reappointed for four consecutive terms; in 1999, 2005, 2011 and 2017. Salameh chairs the Banque du Liban Central Council, the Higher Banking Commission, the AML/CFT Special Investigation Commission and the Capital Markets Authority. Salameh is a member of the board of governors at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and at the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF). Salameh is the longest-serving central bank governor in the world....
's interrogation session was postponed to Thursday, after he failed to appear Wednesday before visiting European Sherlocks, part of a multinational probe into his personal wealth.

The European delegation — with representatives from La Belle France, Germany, and Luxembourg — spent about two hours at Beirut’s Justice Palace waiting for Salameh.

Salameh's lawyer affirmed that Salameh will attend Thursday's session, after the public prosecution refused a petition he had submitted and scheduled a new session for Thursday.

The petition considered the presence of foreign Sherlocks at Salameh's hearing session "a flagrant violation of the illusory sovereignty of the judiciary," media reports said.

Also on Wednesday, Head of the lawsuit department at the Justice Ministry Judge Helena Iskandar sued Salameh, his brother Raja, and his assistant Marianne Hoayek, after having met earlier in the morning with the European legal team.

The embattled central bank chief faces embezzlement accusations in separate investigations in Lebanon Hezbollahstan

and abroad, looking into the fortune he has amassed in a country mired in financial crisis.

He had been summoned for questioning on Wednesday in the domestic case, but that session has been postponed to make way for the European Sherlocks.

The interrogation session that Salameh did not attend was scheduled at 10:00 am on Wednesday. For procedural reasons, Judge Charbel Abu Samra would have questioned Salameh in the presence of the European Sherlocks, acting as a go-between. Under Lebanese laws, they cannot directly question Salameh.

Salameh denies all accusations against him and has rarely appeared before the judiciary, despite numerous complaints and summonses.

La Belle France, Germany and Luxembourg in March last year seized assets worth 120 million euros ($130 million) in a move linked to a French probe into Salameh's personal wealth.

Berri says no one has luxury of time as to presidential election
[An Nahar] Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
on Wednesday hoped that parliament will be able to carry out the presidential election soon, urging all parties to realize that "no one has the luxury of wasting time amid the deterioration of the financial, economic and social situations."

"The dollar exchange rate has crossed the LBP 100,000 mark" on the black market, Berri added.

"I cannot conceal my concern that prolonging the presidential vacuum and continuing to paralyze the work of institutions would have disastrous repercussions from which no one will remain safe, even the obstructors," the Speaker said.

Reiterating that the election of a president is "the solution key that paves the way for taking the course of salvation," Berri stressed that "dialogue and consensus are the only choice to approach all big and small issues, topped by the presidency."
