09:00 APU tried to bring up an assault group for an offensive in the Orekhov area, but were promptly "covered" by Russian artillery

The enemy made a short-sighted attempt to bring up an assault group of up to 30 people in three AFVs in the Orekhovo area. Apparently, the Ukrainian militants wanted to quietly land at the landing and further attack the positions of the Russian army. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine absolutely do not learn from their mistakes and, despite the mountains of corpses of their brothers, they still continue to "beat their heads against the wall."

The Russian soldiers detected the enemy's movements in a timely manner and, with accurate blows from the 122mm D-30 howitzer, defeated the assault group. A few hours later, the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to evacuate the dead and wounded, but also came under a hail of artillery. Realizing their mistakes, the enemy is now afraid to approach close range, so our fighters continue to send 122mm "presents" to Ukrainian militants at maximum distances.

08:26 Enemy resources report that the Shkolny airfield in Odessa and the seaport in Nikolaev were on fire tonight.

08:04 For the third night in a row, rockets and Geraniums are visiting Odessa and Nikolaev.

The Russian army this night again launched a combined strike using cruise missiles and loitering ammunition. The enemy is being destroyed: port infrastructure, warehouses of ammunition and fuels and lubricants, military headquarters and warehouses with armored vehicles.

The enemy reports that at night, Onyxes, X-22s from Tu-22M3 long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, as well as Geraniums beloved by everyone, flew over it.

The systematic destruction of the port infrastructure and all military supplies that were brought there by sea continues.

21:06 Russian artillery covered column of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Artyomovsk

19:37 Statement of head of the press center of the group "Center":

In the Krasnolimansky direction, the crews of the Su-25 attack aircraft of the "Center" group of troops launched strikes using S-25 unguided aircraft missiles at the areas of concentration of enemy manpower and fire weapons.

In the area of Serebryansky forest, the crews of helicopters of army aviation thwarted attempts to attack the assault groups of the 67th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In the Svatov direction, the artillery fire of the group of troops "Center" defeated the assault groups of the 25th Airborne Brigade of Ukrainian troops. Bomber aircraft delivered four bombing strikes on a command and observation post, two temporary deployment points and an enemy ammunition depot in the Novogorovka, Nevskoye, and Terny areas. During the day, an infantry fighting vehicle, an armored fighting vehicle, a 122mm D-30 gun, a 120mm mortar, and two unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed.

19:30 The Russian army is conducting a powerfuloffensivenear Donetsk: the enemy was driven out of Vesely and from positions near Kamenka:

Enemy military analysts report a serious advance of our troops east of Avdievka. During the offensive, Russian armored groups were able to significantly penetrate the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Our attack aircraft regained control over the previously lost village of Vesyoloye and a stronghold northwest of the village of Kamenka.

Then the Russian troops advanced along the forest belt. The fighting continues.

19:25 Kherson direction of setting as of 19.00 July 20, 2023:

In the Kherson direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shifted the focus of the offensive and attacks on the islands in the Goloya Pristan sector and near Kherson. The intensity of the fire impact of artillery and mortars on the coastal zone and islands has increased dramatically: from 20 to 30 raids on average.

Yesterday, DRGs from the Grom tactical group tried to land on Buryakovy Island in three boats, moving along the Konka River. However, enemy detachments were discovered and destroyed by concentrated fire (three boats and about 15 people).

Also, a detachment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on two boats moved out of the vicinity of Tyaginka, trying to gain a foothold near the settlement of Krynki. Artillery immediately worked on them, and the DRGs retreated to their original positions.

Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting artillery preparation along the Dnieper. The purpose of this is still unclear, since a massive crossing of the Dnieper River looks unlikely at this stage. However, the intensity of missile strikes by tactical aircraft and HIMARS MLRS is high. And the main goal, apparently, is to defeat the rear facilities of the RF Armed Forces.

19:10 One civilian was killed, two were shell-shocked as a result of the artillery attack of Alyoshek on the right bank of the Dnieper in the Kherson region from the M777 howitzer by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced by the press secretary of the Acting Governor of the region Vladimir Vasilenko.

19:00 AFU fired six rockets from MLRS at Kuibyshevsky and Kievsky districts of Donetsk - DPR representative office in the JCCC

18:39 Orekhovsky area setting as of 18.00 July 20, 2023

In the Orekhovsky sector, enemy assault detachments at night attempted to swoop into positions of the Russian army north of Rabotino. However, the fighters of the RF Armed Forces successfully repulsed the attack with accurate artillery and ATGM strikes.

Despite this sortie, the situation in the direction has slightly stabilized. The intensity of attacks has decreased, which may be due to the large losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in manpower and equipment.

In the units of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade, there is a shortage of assault formations, and in the 2nd Battalion of the 33rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, since June 8, the number of only officially confirmed killed was 162 people.

There are also losses in the jet division of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, due to the ongoing offensive on Rabotino, was moved closer to the front line, which led to the destruction of both personnel and equipment.

Now the Armed Forces of Ukraine along the LBS are waiting for the transfer of reinforcements and replenishment of personnel. A new assault group of the 128th Guards Rifle Brigade arrived at Lobkovoe. At the same time, all activities are carried out under the cover of artillery and aviation.

Due to the need for deep strikes, some aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine fly close enough to the front line. According to some reports, a Ukrainian Su-25 was shot down in the area north of Orekhov the other day.

18:10 According to the operational lines of the DPR JCCC for July 20, as of 18:00, additional information was received about damage as a result of artillery attack of the VFU cities of the Republic:

17:37 Ugledar district setting as of 17.00 July 20, 2023:

In the early morning, Ukrainian formations, supported by three tanks and three infantry fighting vehicles, attempted to attack the positions of the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet of the RF Armed Forces near the forest belt north of Nikolsky.

Russian troops quickly detected the enemy's movement and delivered targeted artillery strikes against him, destroying two infantry armored vehicles.

The remaining units of armored vehicles drove into mine-explosive barriers, as a result of which they were blown up. By dumping FOG from copters, the wrecked equipment was destroyed. Having suffered significant losses, the Ukrainian formations retreated to their original positions.

In the Ugledar sector, compared to the neighboring ones, there is a relative calm: the sides are engaged in artillery duels along the entire front line, the Russian Aerospace Forces are actively working.

For a long time, the Ukrainian command has been accumulating strength and today decided to test the strength of the Russian defense, but did not succeed.

Nevertheless, sabotage and reconnaissance groups continue to operate in the landings, while anyone's advancement is difficult due to the mutually dense mining of the area.

Why Kyiv spends money on the Holodomor
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Anatoly Savenko
Explain to me why this is not obscene.
[REGNUM] A failed counter-offensive, a break in the grain deal, but in the Ukrainian media field there was a flurry of emotions about another reason - the completion of the Holodomor Museum. It turns out that on July 13, the deputies voted for the allocation of UAH 570 million for this “holy cause”. After that, even the most persistent threads were torn off.

Ukrainians are massively outraged in social networks that such expenses in the midst of a war are unacceptable. Especially against the backdrop of problems with the financing of the army and payments to servicemen who were never returned additional payments of 30 thousand, citing a shortage of funds. The easiest way to get outraged is to count how many drones and other weapons could be bought for "museum" millions and instead of a huge trident in the Motherland.

“If during the war, instead of producing drones, the Rada allocates more than half a billion hryvnias for construction work in the Holodomor Museum, then this is important for me. Because more than 30,000 FPV drones could be made with these hundreds of millions of hryvnias. ... The war will not end in the coming months, and maybe even years. Therefore, all of our meager, in comparison with Russia, budgets should be directed as much as possible to the approach of Ukraine's victory. We will definitely complete the museum after the war,” wrote the former head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, and now an employee of the First Volunteer Mobile Hospital Pirogov, Andrey Prokopenko.

All these people could be standardly accused of lack of patriotism, but now it is unlikely to succeed. Therefore, the authorities simply keep a mysterious silence and do their own thing. Because, in principle, it cannot be otherwise.

This project is quite old.

The Holodomor Museum (“National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide,” as its full name looks like) is a megaproject of President Viktor Yushchenko. He himself repeatedly said that he sees the opening of the museum as his main task in the presidency. If now Vladimir Zelensky is rolling around the world and begging for money and/or weapons everywhere, then Yushchenko was rolling around the world asking parliaments and governments to condemn the Holodomor. And later - also to recognize it as the genocide of Ukrainians. Well, the museum itself was, as it were, the center of attraction for the large-scale politics of the death cult, launched after the "orange revolution."

A lot of monuments of local importance fanned out from it. Not all of them were opened under Yushchenko, but a good half were installed in 2005-2009, i.е. during his presidency. And in total in Ukraine there are about a hundred different kinds of commemorative signs, and in a mysterious way, some of them are even in those settlements that in 1932-33. were not part of the Ukrainian SSR (Ternopil and Lvov regions).

The point was not to honor the memory of the innocent victims. The Holodomor concept promoted by Yushchenko and his successors suggests that:

- the famine was a planned act: a genocide;

- the goal of the Holodomor was the destruction of the Ukrainian nation;

- the leadership of the Ukrainian SSR and the USSR planned and implemented the genocide.

The result of the enormous effort and money spent on "clarifying the truth" was the simple formula "Russians have always killed Ukrainians." Just out of pure hatred, for no reason. Therefore, there is no point in thinking about where the victims of the famine in the Polish Tarnopol and Lvov could come from, not to mention the numerous victims of the famine in the RSFSR and Kazakhstan.

During his presidency, Yushchenko managed to open only the first stage of the memorial, leaving the completion of construction to his successors. So the construction of the second stage in itself was not initially some kind of sensation. It's just that the last couple of years have been very eventful in terms of events, so the Ukrainians simply forgot about the completion of the museum.

But the authorities have not forgotten.

The finalization of construction started under Petro Poroshenko in 2017, and according to the plan, it should be completed just in 2023, on the 90th anniversary of the tragic events. So, on the one hand, everything is within the framework of a decent completion of what has been started. But, on the other hand, constantly demanding money from society for the defense of the country, not solving problems with payments to the families of the dead, while throwing out countless millions on mourning cast in bronze for those who died a hundred years ago, is somehow immoral.

But this dispute today is initially conducted in the wrong voice.

The construction of the memorial was originally a way to steal money, so it is simply impossible to curtail such an important undertaking in favor of spending it on some drones , albeit very important ones. And this is not our opinion, but the conclusion of the Accounts Chamber of Ukraine. In 2009, she concluded that the cost of design alone exceeded the estimate by almost five times - UAH 27.5 and 133.8 million, respectively ($5.5 and 26.8 million).

Money from the sky How volunteering in Ukraine became the best business
In total, during Yushchenko's time, at least 500 million hryvnias ($100 million) were spent on the museum from the budget. And taking into account the almost fivefold losses in the design alone, one can only guess how many of these 100 million went into the pockets of officials.

Against the background of these expenses, the current 570 million hryvnia ($15.5 million) seem frivolous. But to this we need to add another UAH 2 billion ($77 million). So much for the museum was allocated in 2017 and 2018 to finance the work for the period until 2021. In addition, the company, which then won the tender for completion, in 2017-2018. carried out various preliminary works for a total amount of another UAH 336 million ($13 million). That is, in total, the second phase is already drawing in $105 million.

The company that won the tender, according to good tradition, was caught stealing budget funds. But they did not replay the tender. By the way, in 2009 the Counting Commission estimated the cost of construction of the second stage at UAH 473 million ($95 million). That is, the project again got out of the estimate, and the total cost of the museum has already exceeded $200 million.

In other words, those who today say “Is there no place to put money in a warring country?” they see only a piece of the famine problem that has existed since at least 2006 - since the Ukrainian parliament voted for the law “On the famine of 1932-1933. in Ukraine". It was he who laid the foundation for the systematic spending of budgetary funds for this endless construction. All this time, those in power have been stealing this money, hiding behind the famine - why should they stop now?

The issue of financing is also important here because it is a kind of key to understanding the essence of the problem and its connection with current events.

Such structures are very often built on donations at least, and sometimes completely. Examples include the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Complex or the Rzhev Memorial. And in the museum of the history of the Holodomor - entirely budgetary millions. So what: Ukrainians do not appreciate their loved ones who became victims of the famine of the early 30s?

The fact that the Holodomor Museum was originally not about memory and not about the 30s. This is such a local version of the Marvel multiverse, in which Ukrainians were tried to be wiped out in the bud. And they, in spite of all the deaths, survived. And now we have to take revenge. History and memory were replaced with myth and comics. In this sense, it is indicative to follow not only construction costs, but also the increase in the number of Holodomor victims. From 2-3 million, it has already grown to 10 million.

Since the famine named after Viktor Yushchenko, Russian-Ukrainian relations began to deteriorate sharply. He became a simple and understandable reason to hate Russia and Russians for the younger generation. A few years later, in 2014, this will come back to haunt the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass. Many of the Ukrainian military then swayed for a long time, but the charged nationalist youth did not. “These are the Russians and their accomplices, the time has come for them to answer for the Holodomor and for all other grievances.”

Therefore, no matter how Ukrainians shout in social networks, they will not stop allocating money for the museum. Not only because what has been started needs to be completed. And not only because the third generation of the political elite has joined to steal on the construction of the museum. But also because the museum was originally conceived as an ideological justification for Russophobia as the national idea of Ukraine. And what could be more relevant for Kyiv today?

'They cleaned everything up.' Ukraine is running out of helicopters
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Sergey Adamov

[REGNUM] As long as the West promises to supply American-made fighter jets to Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine run the risk of being left without helicopters. High losses in personnel and attack aircraft are forcing Kyiv to turn to the countries of the former "Eastern Bloc" for Soviet-made helicopters.

Croatia and Estonia have already announced their intention to give the APU all the helicopters they have. Aircraft deliveries are carried out by Poland, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. However, these reserves are not unlimited.

Moreover, the Ukrainian Air Force continues to lose not only flight equipment, but also military pilots. The British newspaper The Times interviewed the crew of the Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter, who revealed not the most pleasant details of their service and complained about high losses.

According to the pilots, helicopters are forced to make one sortie per day, saving aviation ammunition and the resource of equipment that needs to be repaired due to a high degree of wear.

In addition, half of the personnel of the unit in which the pilots serve was destroyed in previous battles. The rest are aware that each sortie could be the last due to the activity of Russian air defense systems and fighter aircraft.

“Russian planes are much better than ours,” Ukrainian pilots admit.

The main combat vehicles of the attack aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the Mi-8 military transport helicopters and the Mi-24 attack helicopters, produced back in the Soviet years. At the same time, the Russian Aerospace Forces use modern Mi-28 and Ka-52 helicopters to carry out air strikes.

As an attack aircraft pilot, a veteran of military operations on condition of anonymity, noted in a comment to IA Regnum, each individual helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Forces surpasses the Ukrainian one in a number of indicators.

“If you do not take our numerical superiority, do not take the average age of the vehicles for now, but take each specific vehicle and its combat qualities from us and from them. So, Ukrainian aviation is mainly engaged in "cabring." This is when a helicopter pilot lifts the nose of the vehicle and fires a salvo of unguided combat missiles. It turns out an analogue of a multiple launch rocket system for the poor. The accuracy of such strikes is very conditional.

Our helicopters use a range of guided weapons. Here are the Vikhr anti-tank systems, which, by the way, are now precisely destroying their equipment in the Zaporozhye direction, and modern developments. For example, "Lemurs", as the pilots call them. This is a multi-purpose guided missile - LMUR, aka "Product 305". It has a range of over 10 km, which allows it to deliver accurate strikes while remaining outside the enemy's air defense coverage area.

Therefore, even in this indicator, they are seriously lagging behind. Their attack aircraft now performs more auxiliary functions, and the efficiency of the flight of one Ukrainian helicopter is lower than that of ours," the expert notes.

According to the analytical portal Lostarmour, whose users record losses in military equipment based on data from open sources, during a special military operation, the Ukrainian Air Force lost at least 14 Mi-8 helicopters, three Mi-24s, and one Mi-14 helicopter.

The English-language analytical portal Oryx gives a figure of 31 destroyed helicopters of all types. In addition, a large number of helicopters were lost by Ukrainian aviation between 2014 and 2022.

The real losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine can be much higher, since part of the flight equipment was destroyed at home airfields.

NATO countries were only able to partially make up for these losses. Croatia handed over 14 Mi-8 helicopters to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Slovakia handed over four more helicopters. However, some of them had to be delivered on tractors, since the cars were in a non-flying state.

Poland agreed to transfer 10 Mi-24 helicopters to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but their condition also raises questions. Another 14 helicopters of this model agreed to be transferred to Macedonia. Another five Mi-17 helicopters (export version of the Mi-8) were handed over to the United States, taking equipment from the former Afghan Air Force.

However, the interlocutor of IA Regnum draws attention , most of the vehicles transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not intended directly for combat operations.

“Let's take the Mi-8/Mi-17. He has a task: to deliver a landing group, to cover it with fire if necessary. They do not carry heavy weapons. This is a task for the Mi-24/Mi-35. There are dozens of such machines, and even in a combat-ready state, in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are different numbers, but I will assume that up to 40 pieces are usable. There is nowhere else to take it, everything has already been cleaned up,” the specialist noted.

The expert also drew attention to the fact that Ukrainian pilots complain about the lack of ammunition for their helicopters. According to the specialist, the West is not able to compensate for the shortage of aircraft missiles due to the fact that their production is located in Russia.

Earlier, the United States and Great Britain have already provided Ukraine with "smart" aviation missiles Hellfire (in the British version - Brimstone), Kyiv also received a batch of American-made Zuni unguided missiles. However, they are not used by the Ukrainian Air Force.

“We are talking about the banal S-8 unguided aircraft missiles. They were always produced here in Samara, in my opinion, or in Kirov. Similarly with the heavier S-13s used by Mi-24 helicopters. There is no physical place to take them, because the stocks of the countries of Eastern Europe show the bottom.

And all the missiles supplied by the West, at least until recently, were launched only from ground containers made by local Kulibins. This greatly affects their fighting qualities. It is possible that they will be used to arm the equipment that Kiev is waiting for from the West, but this is just guesswork , ”says the source.

According to the Times, Ukrainian pilots hope to receive attack helicopters in the future, as well as missiles and other Western-made weapons. However, this option also seems highly unlikely.

“Attack helicopters as such are produced by only a few countries. These are Russia, China, the USA and several European countries. European ones can be immediately dismissed for a number of reasons. Only the United States remains - this is either the AH-64 Apache, or the AH-1Z Viper, or the Black Hawk - UH-64.

Apaches can be ruled out right away, because their Ukrainians will never be trusted: the reputation of this car in the world market is very important for the States. Lighter cars remain, but even they are on the balance sheet of the Americans, there are no extra ones. So if something “falls” to the Ukrainians, these are the decommissioned AH-1 Super Cobras, which, however, were developed for the wars of the last century, but in general can replace the Soviet ones in terms of their performance characteristics and act as carriers of the same Hellfires and Brimstones.

But while they are being taken out of warehouses, while they are being re-equipped, these are months of work and tens of millions of dollars. Therefore, it turns out that now there are no Western helicopters that the Armed Forces of Ukraine can receive,” the interlocutor of IA Regnum notes.

So far, the West has limited itself to transferring one UH-64 Blackhawk helicopter and three S-61 Sea King transport helicopters to Ukraine, which is clearly not enough to re-equip the air force of a belligerent country. Moreover, no deliveries of helicopters of other models were announced anymore.

Therefore, while Ukrainian pilots are dreaming of new helicopters, their ground attack aviation is using up the last stocks of missiles and in the foreseeable future risks becoming a relic of the Soviet past.

#1  Cope. Looking at Oryx, I see 99 verified Russian helo losses w/ 38 Ka-52 losses w/o the ability to build more Ka-52s due to reliance on western avionics. Meanwhile Ukrainian losses are 31 with 20 Mi-8. The US have diverted 16 new Mi-17s meant for Afghanistan to Ukraine and European allies have given many more Mi-8, Mi-24 gunships and western utility helos.

I would like to see AH-1s transferred to Ukraine, not only for the armor killing ability, but for the AIM-9 Sidewinders they can carry for counter helo ops.

Expert assesses the data of hackers about the place of launching drones on the Crimean bridge
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The maritime explosive drones that were used in the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge could indeed have been launched from civilian ships sailing in the Black Sea under neutral flags. Military expert Mikhail Onufrienko told this to an IA Regnum correspondent on July 20 , commenting on the results of the work of the RaHDit hacker group, which published the routes of the tankers from which those drones were most likely launched.

“This is most likely, ” agreed Onufrienko. - However, I would not single out a tanker, dry cargo ship, lighter (a kind of barge. - Approx. IA Regnum ) or any other vessel that passes near the Crimean bridge. Launching drones from ships is more convenient than sending them from, say, Odessa. Moreover, the unmanned boats known to me do not have the required range.

Plus, as the expert explained, the probability of failure at such distances is too high - they broke down, went astray, were discovered. The risk is very high.

“And the situation is different if, for example, a chartered vessel goes to Georgia. It dropped several of these drones along the way and moved on. It's impossible to prove anything. You can take any route going to Georgia and say that it was dropped from here,” Onufrienko said.

According to him, the only way to prove something is to capture such a ship in neutral waters, interrogate the crew, deliver it to Russian ports, and so on. In other words, intelligence should work well in this situation. But, according to Onufrienko, it is very difficult and almost impossible to implement this.

However, there is a fairly effective system of protection against such drones. And first of all, this is the cover of the bridge with multi-tiered booms (floating) barriers.

“This is a reliable way to protect against any waterfowl. Because if there are two or three rows of nets there, then even if the drone slips through the first row, it will be detected (after all, the machine weighs more than one hundred kilograms). Such a device makes noise, rattles and rests on the next row of barriers and is destroyed, ” Onufrienko explained.

Such barriers, as the expert believes, can be installed near the bridge where there are no shipping routes.

“After all, where the drones attacked the bridge, ships do not pass. It was about a section of the roadway, which is located low above the water surface and therefore suffered. The railway span above was not affected, ” Onufrienko recalled.

The second most effective means is heavy machine guns. Because we are not talking about armored targets, and they are easily damaged. As the expert emphasized, the range of such weapons allows them to operate at a distance of several kilometers. Moreover, the drone is a target that is clearly visible in all modes. And there are a lot of machine guns, and they are cheap.

“There are many places to place firing points. First, the island of Tuzla, which stretches long and far. Secondly, there was a technical bridge, which is now partially dismantled, but it can be restored. Also, the installation of firing points is possible on the Crimean bridge itself, where there are many technical rooms below the level of the roadway. And the range of destruction of machine guns does not require them to be installed every 10 meters. In other words, it is necessary to increase the density of the fire cover of the bridge, ” Onufrienko believes.

Moreover, in his opinion, one should not be limited only to the outer, Black Sea, part. It is also necessary to cover the bridge from the Azov side.

Earlier , IA Regnum reported that a group of hackers RaHDit published the routes of civilian ships from which they could launch drone boats that hit the Crimean bridge. Two tankers, Beks Loyal and Khudayar Yusifzade, could have participated in this SBU operation. One of these ships drifted 100 km from Novorossiysk a few days before the attack. The second is to the south.

Prior to this, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee informed that on the night of July 17, Kyiv carried out a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge using two surface drones. Two people were killed and a 14-year-old girl was injured.

Disclosed the routes of ships from which they could hit the Crimean bridge

The RaHDit hacker group published the routes of civilian ships from which they could launch drone boats along the Crimean bridge, RIA Novosti reported on July 20.

As follows from the RaHDit investigation, two tankers Beks Loyal and Khudayar Yusifzade could have participated in the SBU operation.

It is noted that one of them a few days before the attack drifted 100 km from Novorossiysk. The second drifted south. Later, both tankers met at sea.

According to the hackers, at that moment, drones were transferred from one of the tankers to another. To control unmanned boats, another ship was probably used, which was drifting with a direct line of sight to the Crimean bridge.

As reported by IA Regnum , on the night of July 17, Kiev carried out a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge with two surface drones. As a result of the attack, two people were killed - a married couple from the Belgorod region. Their minor daughter was hospitalized.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the terrorist attack on the bridge brutal and, from a military point of view, pointless, since the Crimean bridge has long been no longer used for military transportation, and innocent civilians were injured and killed.

Exit from the grain deal. Consequences
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] 1. The Russian Defense Ministry made it clear today that attacks on Ukrainian ports will continue. Previously, they were protected by the grain deal, now there are no obstacles.

2. The US and Turkey have moved away from the topic of escorting ships to Ukraine and are discussing land routes more. Ukraine itself declares that it is ready to pay for the risks from the passage of ships to Odessa. Without escort, this is up to 1-2 sunk/damaged ships, not to mention attacks on port infrastructure and terminals. However, there will certainly be attempts to test the Russian reaction in the hope that there will be no reaction.

3. In turn, Ukraine threatens to attack Russian civilian ships in the Black Sea. Most likely they will try to attack ships with maritime drones and aerial drones. This threat should not be underestimated. The defeat of the coastal military infrastructure must be intensified.

4. Grain prices on world markets continue to rise. Accordingly, Russian grain producers will earn additional money from this growth. Negotiations on a grain hub in Turkey can be expected in August, when negotiations between Putin and Erdogan are likely to take place.

5. The US and the EU do not give grounds to believe that they intend to fulfill the 5 Russian conditions under which the grain deal can be extended. The next meeting of the UN Security Council regarding the grain deal will not change anything significant in this situation. The coordination center in Istanbul has already been disbanded. There are no prerequisites for extending the deal on the previous terms.

Related, from Boris Rozhin:
Using tankers to attack the Crimean bridge

Scheme of the attack on the Crimean bridge using marine drones according to the hacker group RaHDit, unmanned boats could launch from two tankers Beks Loyal and Khudayar Yusifzade. One of the ships drifted 100 kilometers from Novorossiysk a few days before the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge. The second tanker was to the south. After a while, the tankers met at sea.

According to the hackers, at that moment, unmanned boats were reloaded from one of the tankers to another, and another vessel was used to control the drones, which was at sea near the Crimean bridge.

This scenario was listed as possible last August

Grain Deal Coordination Center in Istanbul completes work

The joint coordinating center in Istanbul, whose participants dealt with the issues of the grain deal, has ceased its activities, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed on July 20.

“He completed the job. I have the details of how he completed it, but I don't have anything that I can share with you. Indeed, he completed the work, to the obvious extreme displeasure of certain participants, ” Zakharova said at a briefing by the Foreign Ministry.

Earlier on July 20, Turkish media reported that the Russian delegation, as well as all Russian personnel, left the territory of the coordination center.

On July 17, Russia formally notified the UN, Turkey, and Ukraine of the suspension of the grain deal due to the fact that none of the promises made to Russia in the summer of 2022 were ever fulfilled.

Ukraine did not supply products to the poorest countries at all and simply made money on a grain deal, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted . The Kyiv authorities used the provided corridor for the preparation of terrorist attacks, they said in turn in the Russian Foreign Ministry.

On July 19, Vladimir Putin said that Russia might consider returning to the grain deal, but only after the promises made back in July 2022 are fulfilled.

On July 17, simultaneously with the termination of the grain deal, the guarantees for the safety of navigation in the corresponding corridor in the Black Sea were also withdrawn. On July 19, the Russian Defense Ministry warned that they would consider all ships going along this corridor to Ukrainian-controlled ports as potential arms carriers.

Irretrievable losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from 02/22/2022 to 07/20/2023 according to WarTears.
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the wartears.org website, via Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

You can see a graphic on the conclusions of wartears.org in the above like. Alas, it is in Russian language

Attention!

The calculation of the mathematical model is temporarily suspended because we have received a large amount of accurate data on the dead and are working on model changes in accordance with the changed incoming accurate data.

Also in this second version of the model, estimates of the number of deaths are overestimated by approximately 25-30%. We have significantly corrected and improved the model by publishing the third version of . Which, see above, was not the last.

Since May 25 of this year, the WarTears.org project has been helping people find their relatives who served in the VFU and stopped communicating for one reason or another. During this time, the Project has collected a database of more than 159,000 records, received more than 8,500 requests for the search for people and helped to find information on more than 2,000 military personnel (as of April 2023, and these numbers are growing daily).

Note : hereinafter we use the abbreviation VFU - Armed Formations of Ukraine. We do this because it is often not clear which organizational hierarchy a person might belong to. These can be the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Armed Forces of Ukraine), NGU (National Guard of Ukraine), TRO (territorial defense), SVR (Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine). In addition, there are nationalist formations, for example, the Azov regiment (which is banned in the Russian Federation and significantly, but not completely overlaps with military unit A3057 ), the Kraken battalion , the Transcarpathian Sich; volunteer battalions (dobrobat "Solnyshko"), organizations of mercenaries and just foreigners, far from always included in official structures.

We are looking for everyone. That is why hereinafter we use the general term VFU.

We decided to try to estimate the losses and the total number of HFU based on the data obtained by statistical methods. What is interesting here is that it is quite difficult to do this directly because of the many reasons that can significantly distort the statistics. For example:

  • some of the data was obtained by fairly large lists - for example, we received a list of prisoners for several hundred names, and we also analyzed the database of the volunteer.su and nemez1da.ru projects from almost 120,000 non- unique entries (this means that one person on these projects 2 or more records could have been created);

  • some of the categories may intersect in a bizarre way - in our database, the same person can be listed as wounded and dead, because at first a person was wounded (data on the wounded may be in the DPR healthcare system), but then died.

However, some of the records, especially the records of those killed, prisoners and claims from relatives, we manually check for uniqueness, so duplicates may affect the estimate of the total number, but not the estimate of losses.

    METHODOLOGY
We want to note right away that we did not estimate the number of wounded evacuated to the territories controlled by Kyiv, as well as the number of deserters due to the lack of sufficient data. Therefore, the mathematical model and its estimates below were made only for the dead Ukrainians and Ukrainians who were taken prisoner. It is these people - dead or captured - that make up the general population of the model in the statistical and probabilistic sense.

We separately estimated the number of people in one or another narrow and unambiguously defined category.

We make the assumption that the distribution of people searched through the WarTears.org project and the distribution of data obtained by the project from open sources are independent. For the most part, we get information about the prisoners and the dead from lists that have surfaced in open sources and from Telegram channels that post any such information that falls into their field of vision. A small part of the information comes from the media, but it mostly concerns either officers or nationalists.

In connection with the latter, we had to count the officers separately - about this and other possible adjustments below, in the "Numerical result" section.

For each state (dead, prisoners), the score was calculated by the formula: T = R / (A / Q)

    Where:

T- the total number of VFU soldiers in this state,
R- the number of records about this state in our database,
Q- the total number of search requests from relatives,
A- the number of applications by which the soldier was found and is in this state.

In other words, we a priori assume that the probability that we have an entry in the database about someone is the same as the probability that it was found in our database, provided that we searched.

In addition, we estimated the total number of AFU - active, dead and captured - according to the same method, assuming that everyone who is in our base is or was in one way or another in the AFU. Based on this and the previous two estimates, we estimated the active population of HFU by simple subtraction. Since we know that our database contains duplicate entries about active members of the VFU, the resulting estimate is an upper estimate. As you work, duplicates will be removed from the database, and the score will decrease.

    NUMERICAL RESULT
We have found that this model does not apply to certain categories. Chief among these categories are officers. There are very few requests to search for officers in our database, but out of more than 3,500 records of the dead, more than 1,200 are officers. This showed a fundamentally different distribution of probabilities in the category, and therefore we assumed that we know about all or almost all cases of officer deaths. In the model, the number of such records was taken into account directly, without any coefficients.

We also compared our estimates with the performance of Sergei Shoigu. As of September 21, 2022, our model gave an estimate of 6 thousand more (67 thousand versus 61 thousand) than the official data of the Russian Ministry of Defense. We hypothesize that this may be evidence of categories other than officers, for whom the number of search applications may be abnormally low. Such categories may be the core of the Ukrainian army, which has undergone British training, as well as representatives of nationalist groups such as "Azov", "Kraken" or "Transcarpathian Sich" - all of them are given increased attention in the media. We believe that these people in terms of statistics are somewhere between officers and ordinary mobilized. However, in the absence of strict criteria, we did not introduce another correction. If the reader considers it necessary, then we can reduce our estimates of the dead by about 10%.

On November 30, 2022, according to the statement of the head of the European Commission von der Leyen (very quickly edited, but the original version remained on the Web ), the losses of the Ukrainian military amounted to more than 100,000 people. Evaluation of our mat. models for this day : 102,350 dead.

Another coincidence with the statements of officials occurred this year: according to the Turkish press, as of January 14, 2023, MOSSAD estimated the number of dead AFU fighters at 157,000 people. According to our mat. models for the same day the death toll was 161,769 people.

Below we provide daily updated graphs for estimating the number of dead and captured soldiers of the VFU. To see the numerical value of the ratings on a specific day, hover over the reference point for that day.

Attention! The graphs show the change in our assessment, which includes both a change in the real state of things and a change in our understanding of what is happening . Therefore, one should not be surprised at any downward changes in the estimate of the number of dead, or sudden jumps - most likely on this day we found and processed another list of names that appeared on the network.

Further, based on the totality of records, we ventured to make estimates of the total number of HFUs.

We believe that this is an upper estimate that can be adjusted downward for a number of reasons, for example:

    there is a noticeable number of duplicate entries in our database. In the current version, however, we did not take into account this factor, which, again, can significantly reduce the estimate of the total number;
from general considerations, search requests will be much more likely for those who serve in the front-line units than for those who, conditionally, protect Lvov.

    CONCLUSION
The real losses of the VFU, in addition to these numbers, include the wounded, deserters and actually missing. We assume that the total irretrievable losses of VFU (both dead and wounded, unfit for military service) may be twice as high as our estimate. The numerical composition, perhaps, is exaggerated.

It is also necessary to remember that this is a delayed smoothed estimate . It takes into account the fact that relatives applied to our project. This can happen both in two weeks and in five months, as was the case with the attack on the location of 137th Separate Mechanized Brigade in Nikolaev on March 18, 2022. The jumps in our estimates, for example, on October 5 or 24, are directly related to the fact that we stumbled upon some a fairly large list of the dead and made it at once.

We did not make an assessment of the missing and other categories. In the case of the missing, we know for sure many cases where the Kiev regime informed relatives that people were missing, while this person died during a rocket attack on a location deep in the rear.

For the time being, we consider the assessment of other categories to be premature, because the number of known cases in them is not enough to obtain statistically significant values.

We also understand that the estimate of the total number of HFU is likely to be overestimated. We plan to clean up the database from duplicate entries and, accordingly, adjust the estimate.

    Europe
Knife in the back. Poland refused to open the border for Ukrainian grain
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
    by Stanislav Stremidlovsky

[Regnum] Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced Warsaw's refusal to comply with the European Commission's resolution requiring the opening of borders for the import of cereals from Ukraine. According to the prime minister, " we will not open the border ", and " if the European Commission does not extend the ban, we will do it ourselves."

Morawiecki made his statement during a meeting organized at the initiative of Polish Minister of Agriculture Robert Telus. It was attended by the Ministers of Agriculture of Hungary Istvan Nagy, Slovakia Józef Bires , Romania Florin-Ionuts Barbu and Bulgaria Kirill Vitev.

The meeting participants signed a declaration on the need to extend the "preventive measures" against the import of wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower from Ukraine after September 15, 2023. The developed document will be presented at the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries of the European Union in Brussels on July 25, 2023.

“From the point of view of the agricultural sector, the war in Ukraine is causing more and more serious consequences for the agricultural market ,” said Morawiecki. — The government has adopted the principle: they should not be destructive to Polish agriculture. That is why we closed the borders for products from Ukraine when they flooded into the country and destabilized the agricultural market.”

At the same time, Warsaw declares that its actions "are not directed against Ukraine."

However, Kiev seems to hold the opposite opinion. The Minister of Agriculture of Ukraine Roman Leshchenko was invited to a meeting in the Polish capital, but contrary to preliminary agreements, he never arrived.

Moreover, on the day of the meeting, the Ukrainian government news agency Ukrіnform published an interview with Ukraine's ambassador to Poland, Vasily Zvarych , in which they discussed grain problems. The diplomat noted that for the Kiev regime, the agricultural industry "is almost the only one that generates income and helps fill the budget of Ukraine focused on military purposes."

Therefore, Zvarych said, "We are against any unilateral steps prohibiting the export of Ukrainian products to the EU countries ." Kyiv believes that this issue should be resolved within the framework of the European Union, being the prerogative of Brussels. “There should be no unilateral embargoes or restrictions from the EU on Ukrainian products,” the ambassador said.

However, the ruling Polish party "Law and Justice" (PiS) during the current election campaign for elections to the Sejm and the Senate is forced to reckon with the farmers, and not with Kiev. On the day when the ministers of the five countries gathered for their meeting, a picket of the “Deceived Village” movement was held in front of the building of the Ministry of Agriculture of Poland.

The protesters drew attention to the fact that after the collapse of the grain deal, which allowed the Kiev regime to export products by sea, the risk of Ukrainian grain inflow by land increased, which "could lead to destabilization of the Polish market."

The Deceived Village urged the government to pay close attention to "unfair competition from the Ukrainian side." Members of the movement believe that Warsaw is actually helping not an ordinary Ukrainian farmer, but " international agricultural holdings whose business in Ukraine is under threat."

Judgments of this kind indicate the trend of Polish public opinion, which is convinced of the danger for Poland of the “European integration” of Ukraine. There is no good solution here, says Jacek Piechota , president of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce , as " it is extremely difficult to look after the interests of Polish farmers and support Ukraine at the same time ."

    And it's not just that.

As the Polish magazine Do Rzeczy points out, it is unlikely that Polish-Ukrainian "friendship" will stand the test of time in the future. Ukraine will become Poland's main competitor in the West, since Kyiv will focus not so much on Warsaw as on Western European capitals.

Ukrainian agriculture, largely controlled by Western corporations that run large enterprises, will create big problems for Polish farmers. An example of this, the newspaper notes, is the import of Ukrainian grain and raspberries this year.

“Poland has achieved its grandiose successes over the past thirty years, of course, unintentionally, largely at the expense of Ukraine,” the magazine states. Suffice it to recall that the Polish GDP over the past 30 years has grown more than five times, while the Ukrainian GDP over the same period is still at the 1991 level. At the same time, Ukrainians have great advantages. Cheap labor, cheap energy, less fragmented agriculture.”

It is clear that "Law and Justice" cannot afford to openly identify with the above opinion. But she can't ignore it either. In this situation, PiS will try to shift the arrows to Brussels, accusing it of putting pressure on Poland to allow the import of Ukrainian crops.

The ruling party will probably convince its supporters. But will swing voters believe her? This appears to be debatable.

#1  Polish farmers don't want Ukrainian grain undercutting the Polish market. Understandable. Transshipment for export is allowed.

Washington decides not to declare war
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
    by Oleg Krivoshapov

[REGNUM] The Senate of the US Congress, during a vote on July 19, rejected an amendment to the country's draft defense budget for the 2023-2024 fiscal year (October 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024), obliging Washington to declare war if Article 5 of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) Collective Defense Treaty comes into force. This is reported by the TASS agency with reference to the website of the US Senate.

The upper house of the US legislature required 60 votes to pass the amendment. However, 16 people voted for it, while 83 were against it. The author of the amendment is a Republican from Kentucky Rand Paul.

At the same time, the US Senate approved another legislative initiative related to NATO: it prohibits any president of the country from making a decision on the country's withdrawal from NATO without the approval of Congress. The bill received 65 votes in favor and 28 against.

As TASS noted, Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, who co-authored this amendment with Republican Marco Rubio , reacted to the vote on his Twitter as follows : “America is strong on its own, but with allies it is even stronger. Congress supports this historic alliance . "

    "READ THE US CONSTITUTION!"
“The United States is already above all international agreements, ” ironically American political scientist Dmitry Drobnitsky . - This is on very many issues and de jure so - in the States there are relevant laws.

This situation, as the expert explains, means that US laws in the United States itself are given unconditional priority over international agreements. And Congress has always resisted attempts to take away relevant rights and put international agreements above US law.

“Under different presidents, such attempts were made at different times. The first was under Woodrow Wilson - to put international rules a little higher than the decisions of the US Congress, - says the interlocutor of IA Regnum. “But Congress did not ratify the Treaty of Versailles, which is why the United States never entered the League of Nations.”

“As a rule, relatively liberal presidents try, on the one hand, to “shake” the supremacy of Congress in matters of war, peace and US obligations, on the other hand, to make the United States a more global power,” Drobnitsky notes . “In particular, the United States does not recognize the jurisdiction of very many international organizations in relation to its military personnel, government employees, citizens in general.”

In the case of the July 19 vote, Congress effectively confirmed that relations with international organizations, including NATO, are under its control. This also applies to the question of participation in the war.

“Again, the declaration of war is also a matter for Congress under the American constitution,” the expert clarifies. "Another thing is that the President of the United States, in the event of a direct attack on the country, must take all the measures necessary to repel the aggression. But all the same, the issue of starting a war is submitted to Congress. Even if, relatively speaking, they began to bomb Texas, according to the letter of the law, the president must still go to Congress with permission to act. And those actions that he has already taken, "retroactively" are also authorized through Congress.

So the US Congress, as the interlocutor of IA Regnum notes , took a simple and obvious step: it confirmed its right both to conclude the corresponding bloc alliances and to change them in matters of war and peace.

    "READ THE NATO CHARTER!"
As for the position of the US Congress regarding the often mentioned thesis from the NATO Charter, according to which an attack on one of the members of the alliance means an attack on all, then everything is not simple here either, the political scientist notes.

“It is commonly said that Article 5 assumes that an attack on one member of NATO is an attack on all. But they usually don’t read the text further, says Drobnitsky. "Article Five does not require all countries to declare war or take military action against the one who attacked. It obliges to immediately begin consultations, after which the country takes the necessary actions to help the victim of aggression in accordance with its understanding and capabilities. That is, it does not oblige anyone to immediately put forward troops or start some kind of action.

Professor of the Department of European Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of St. Petersburg State University Natalya Eremina agrees with this assessment. She notes that the specifics of the ratification of the decision on the direct participation of any NATO country in hostilities depend on the legal specifics of this country.

“That is, the laws of different NATO countries have their own nuances, including which government representatives have the right to the last word,” she points out. “And a reaction is possible up to the entry into hostilities.”

The interlocutor of IA Regnum recalls that since 1949, when the NATO bloc arose, it was a reflection of the bipolar system that existed at that time. And the main purpose of the alliance was the military-political presence of the United States in Europe as a counterbalance to the USSR.

“And if we assume that the United States is leaving NATO, then the alliance will not exist in principle,” the expert argues.

At the same time, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Baltic republics, and the Czech Republic show extremely high interest in the US military presence, according to Eremina.

“Without NATO, Euro-Atlantic security is impossible, and yet the United States and its European allies built it, and not “collective” or “global” security,” the expert points out.

At the same time, as Professor Eremina notes, the new waves of NATO expansion that took place after the collapse of the bipolar world were anticipated and accompanied by powerful media campaigns that inspired European officials of certain levels and the mass audience with the idea that NATO is, in essence, a guaranteed reliable American shield behind which one can hide.

“But now the United States is making it clear that they will not be responsible for the affairs of Europe, but they will not leave NATO, because it is beneficial for them, ” the interlocutor argues. - And in the event of a war involving NATO, the European countries of the alliance will be at the forefront of the attack. Moreover, this is beneficial for the States, given that these same countries of the alliance will be forced to replenish them with orders from the United States when their stocks of weapons and equipment are depleted, which we are already seeing in the course of European deliveries to Ukraine .

    SHOCK AND AWE MORE EUROPEAN
At the same time, in Germany, which is the most important military and strategic ally of the States in Europe, there is complete confidence in the reliability of protection from the United States, says German political scientist Alexander Rahr.

“In Germany, they firmly believe that in the event of an attack by a third country on it, America automatically enters the war, defending Germany - this has been established since the 1950s by the German security and defense doctrine,” the expert notes. “The Americans are assuring the Germans that they will do just that.”

That is why, notes Rahr, German society experienced a shock a few years ago when US President Donald Trump spoke about the possibility of dissolving NATO, and French President Emmanuel Macron announced the “brain death” of the organization.

“If there is now a debate in the United States that it is not necessary to apply NATO Article No. 5 in the event of an attack on a NATO member country, this will again plunge Germany into a deep shock and will possibly have an impact on the future policy of Berlin,” the political scientist shares his thoughts.
