The closed centers include those that offer English language, computer, and academic subjects.

According to recent Taliban warnings, boys in Jaghori are prohibited from wearing shirts and trousers, while girls are not allowed to wear "tight" clothes.

[Breitbart] The Turkish defense ministry announced Saturday it will be sending a commando battalion to northern Kosovo in response to a NATO request for troops to help quell violent unrest.
The request came from NATO’s Joint Force Command Naples, the ministry said in a press statement posted on its official Twitter account, and the battalion will join the alliance´s peacekeeping mission in the region, known as KFOR, as a reserve unit.
A defense ministry official said around 500 Turkish troops would be going to Kosovo. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with ministry regulations.
NATO announced on Tuesday that it would be sending 700 troops to bolster the force in the area. KFOR currently consists of almost 3,800 troops, including some 350 from Turkey.
Violent clashes with ethnic Serbs on Monday left 30 international soldiers – 11 Italians and 19 Hungarians – wounded, including fractures and burns from improvised explosive incendiary devices.
The clashes grew out of a confrontation that unfolded earlier after ethnic Albanian officials elected in votes overwhelmingly boycotted by Serbs entered municipal buildings to take office and were blocked by Serbs.
“We urge restraint and dialogue to resolve these developments in northern Kosovo which endanger regional security and stability,” the Turkish statement read. The Turkish commando battalion will be deploying to the Sultan Murat Barracks in Kosovo on Sunday and Monday.

The Balkans and the grinding edge between Serbian Christians and Albanian Muslims going back centuries. Just as the Christians are deserting the Middle East, so too are the Jews pulling out from most of the world, having better places to be than where they ae actively unwanted. First the Middle East, then the former Soviet Union, now Western Europe. Current trends suggest that soon the Jewish community will be exclusively in Israel and America.
[IsraelTimes] Antisemitism and the dwindling of European Jewry are eroding the hopes of some devoted activists to raise families in the communities they run.
All but two of Rabbi Binyomin Jacobs’ seven children have left their native Netherlands, raising their own children in Israel and beyond.
This means that the Dutch chief rabbi, whose family has lived in the Netherlands for generations, and his London-born wife Blouma rarely get to bask in the warmth of the large family they have devoted much of their lives to establishing.

[AnNahar] Prominent members of German mainstream parties have expressed alarm at a new poll that shows support for the far-right Alternative for Germany at a record high.
When the mainstream parties refuse to notice the needs of the citizenry, the citizens turn to others for answers, In America that made Donald Trump president. In Europe this tends to result in bloody revolution — Alternativ für Deutschland is a good deal safer for all involved.
The DeutschlandTrend survey, conducted monthly by infratest dimap for public broadcaster ARD, that was released on Thursday puts voter support for Alternative for Germany at 18%, on a par with Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats. In the 2021 election, Scholz's party received 25.7% of the vote, while Alternative for Germany, or AfD, got 10.3%.
"This (...) is a disaster and should be understood as an alarm signal for all parties of the center," said Norbert Roettgen, a senior politician for the main opposition Christian Democrats, whose support stood at 29% in the poll of 1,302 voters conducted from May 30-31. The margin of error was up to 3 percentage points.
Roettgen said his own center-right party should ask itself why it hasn't profited as much from voters' unhappiness at the government.
His party colleague Serap Guler said the strong support for AfD should alarm all democratic parties.
"We bear responsibility for changing this again quickly," she said late Thursday.
AfD previously hit 18% in the DeutschlandTrend survey in September 2018 amid discord in then Chancellor Angela Merkel ...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists... 's coalition government.
Scholz's three-party coalition with the environmentalist Greens and the libertarian Free Democrats has faced strong headwind recently over high immigration and a plan to replace millions of home heating systems in the country. Germany's military support for Ukraine's defense against the Russian invasion is also rejected by a sizeable portion of the populace, though it has majority support.
AfD and its affiliates have come under scrutiny from the country's domestic intelligence agency, BfV, for its ties to hard boys. The head of the agency warned recently of "astonishing parallels" between the present and the 1920s and 1930s, which saw a rise in political extremism and authoritarianism that culminated in the Nazi dictatorship.
About two-thirds of those who supported AfD in the poll said they did so in protest over other parties, rather than because they were convinced by the far right's policies. Still, AfD stands a chance to win in three state elections in eastern Germany next year, which would put mainstream forces in the awkward position of having to form a broad coalition against the strongest party.
Sawsan Chebli, a member of the Social Democrats, tweeted after the polls were published: "The AfD is at 18 percent. People, wake the hell up!"

My mother set up a school and sheltered workshop for mentally retarded, multiply handicapped children and adults, so this has a special resonance for me.

My mom worked a similar vein, tw. Pondering that just this morning, I was, and shedding the odd tear, reading about Maturin's "idiot child" in one of the later O'Brian books. Crying not so much because it's a straightforward yet sensitive bit of writing, nor even from envy, but out of regret at never having read it aloud to Ma to get her take on it. Could say that about the whole series, I guess. Endless nautical evolutions and birds-n-bones bits wouldn't have been her thing, but she'd have loved the humorous framing of 'em. Could've made it work with a little editing. Oh, well... maybe next life. [comes back as nondescript roach in guano cave]

Someone who is really committed to a hunger strike is just choosing a slow motion suicide. Of course, many hunger strikers are just doing it for show.

[NPASYRIA] Hundreds of Iraqi refugees are preparing to leave Hawl camp, east of Hasakah, on Sunday for their country, within the framework of coordinated operations between Iraq and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The batch, which is scheduled to leave on Sunday, includes 168 families, numbering 658 people, according to what an official in the camp revealed to North Press.
That’s a lotta ISIS from Iraq, but Iraq is ready for them.
The trip was supposed to take place on May 16 but was postponed two days before by the Iraqi side without indicating the reason, according to a previous statement by the camp administration.
An official in the camp administration, who spoke not for attribution, said, "after a 20-day halt in the trip, preparations were completed for the release of a new batch of Iraqis tomorrow from the camp to their country."
The refugees together with their belongings were moved to the camp’s reception area in preparation for their departure, following the visit of an Iraqi delegation to the camp.
[IsraelTimes] Iranian advisers are in Syria arming terror groups there with powerful roadside kabooms to step up attacks on US forces there, the Washington Post reports.
The report, citing leaked documents and intelligence officials, say this is part of a move by Iran, in cooperation with Russia, to try to drive the US from the region.
The report says elite Quds Force unit members are equipping and training local groups with "powerful armor-piercing roadside kabooms intended specifically to target US military vehicles and kill US personnel."
The report says groups have already tried unsuccessfully to carry out such attacks, including in February when US-allied Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria seized three bombs.
