[NYPOST] The Pentagon ordered a Nevada Air Force base to shut down a drag show scheduled for Thursday — the first day of Pride Month, declaring such events are "not a suitable use" of federal funds and resources.
The Department of Defense on Wednesday directed the Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas to either cancel its drag performance, or to move it off military grounds.
"The DOD will not host drag events at U.S. military installations or facilities. Hosting these types of events in federally funded facilities is not a suitable use of DOD resources," Sabrina Singh, deputy press secretary, confirmed in an email.
The event — which was billed as a "family-friendly" showcase with no minimum age requirement — had been previously approved by Air Force officials.
The Nellis base has been hosting drag events since its historic "Drag-u-Nellis" show in June 2021.
Air Force officials defended the decision at the time, calling it "an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the history and significance of drag performance art within the LGBT+ community."

In my neck of the woods, the city of Quincy MA is hosting a 'Pride Festival" this weekend, complete with a drag show. I'm tempted to launch some fireworks in their general direction; let's put it to a Rantburg vote!

...For God's sake, Nellis is a 20 minute drive from the Vegas Strip - you want to see drag, go the hell downtown.
And it's my understanding that - at least in this particular instance - SecDef looked a Congressional committee dead in the eye and said it wasn't happening...and was then shown proof that it was. No better way to get things stopped PDQ than to embarrass a Cabinet secretary.

I would support one that included high octane fuel.

Unless I have confirmed proof that the Nellis CO has been assigned to a 5-year mandated accompanied tour to Incirlik, I don't buy any Pentagon acts of dismay other than "Oh Sh*t, we got caught!"
[SAHARAREPORTERS] The U.S. Court for the District of Massachusetts in Boston on Wednesday, denied a request by a 12-year-old student, Liam Morrison seeking to exercise his free speech rights by wearing a T-shirt reading "there are only two genders."
Massachusetts district court refused to grant the temporary injunction preventing Nichols Middle School from restricting seventh grader Liam’s freedom to express his views on gender while the court considers its final decision.
"Liam’s not asking to literally wear whatever he wants, but he is asking to do what other students are already allowed to do, which is express their view on this topic in a non-disruptive manner," Alliance Defending Freedom legal counsel Logan Spena told Fox News on Thursday.
"They claim that because Liam’s message is not inclusive, they can exclude it," he continued. "What they don’t account for is how does their own speech and all the other speech they already permit impact Liam."
The ADF and Massachusetts Family Institute sued Nichols Middle School and the town of Middleborough on Morrison’s behalf last month after Morrison was pulled out of gym class and ordered to remove the shirt in question on March 21. When he refused, his father was called to take him home.
School staff reportedly told the seventh-grader his shirt was "targeting a protected class" and created a "disruption to learning" because it was making some people feel "unsafe," though he later told the Middleborough School Committee that "not one person" had expressed discomfort or upset when he wore the shirt to class.
When Morrison protested the school’s censorship by wearing another shirt to class last month reading "there are only censored genders," he was pulled out of class within minutes and ordered to remove it as well.
At a Middleborough School Committee meeting in April, Morrison questioned who the "protected class" was that his shirt had offended. "Are their feelings more important than my rights?" he asked, pointing out that he didn’t complain when the school hung "Pride flags and diversity posters" in the halls because "others have a right to their beliefs, just as I do."
Nichols Middle School has stood behind its dress code, which prohibits messages on clothing that "state, imply, or depict hate speech or imagery that target groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other classification."
The lawsuit argues that the school’s promotion of Pride Month and other LGBTQ initiatives while barring Morrison from expressing his contrary views constitutes a violation of not only the First but the Fourteenth Amendment, which guarantees equal protection under the law.

Pretty sure SCROTUS has ruled out "life means life" for minors. I think that's the correct position. OTOH, it's just a stop on the road to the eurine standard of "life means 7 years with time off for good behavior."

Did the 12 year old give a press conference? If I were in his spot, I would have had one of my brothers blare Dude Looks Like a Lady from a boombox as I walked up to the podium.

At his age with his mental decline is a clear indicator he doesn't have much time left. The brain that controls the motor functions, along with the motor functions themselves are now falling apart. Soon that will spread to swallowing and the diaphragm. 2-3 years for him. If he breaks a hip during a fall it will be even quicker.

I don’t see a sandbag in the video. Could he have dropped a bean bag from his pocket for when Jill lets him play Toss Across between signing executive orders?

Nothing there. That is front and center stage, transit area, where the fucking keynotes and VIPs will and did transit, unless everyone is so incompetent that they not only put a foot obstruction where an 80 year old would walk, nobody else said anything.
Simple fact is, Brandon was a mess the entire ceremony, with slurring and stammering off topic speech. Like, when he wondered off and that gal had to go get him, the humanitarian in my wanted to jump out of my seat and make sure he didn't stammer sideways off the stage. Like watching someone with heat exhaustion symptoms of mental declination.

Biden bites it during the diploma handshake conga line portion of the ceremony. You might put a sandbag on the flag holder or under the podium for wind conditions, but there aren’t sandbags in a receiving line. I do like that everyone stands when Biden sits, but just looks bemused during the presidential break dance. There is no established military etiquette for a POTUS face-plant. Confusion reigns. Should the band play Pop Goes The Weasel? Should everyone recite London Bridge and fall down too? Do we needs carpet squares for nap time? What is the etiquette?

I'm 74 with moderate neuropathy in my feet, affecting my balance. If I spin too quickly, my head keeps spinning.
I think Joe spun too quickly to get off the stage and his balance failed. My wife's news feed told her Joe 'tripped on something on the stage.' Hogwash.

In all fairness if you slow the video the edge of sandbag can bee seen holding down a speaker stand. Slow Joe wasn't watching where his feet were going.

I stand corrected. The stage set up crew is likely cuffed to chairs watching season 2 of Hello Larry by this time.

There are better ways to secure a mic stand than a foot trip, especially when the path will be used by a semi-invalid. I can go down to Music Town and get you a weighted stand right now. Fucking amateurs.

Banged his head fairly solid on Marine One.
We've all done these things before, at least I have; taken all together if this were a person at a bar I'd figure him as absolutely plastered.
Good to know — add to the list of schools to avoid.
[NYPOST] Former the Socialist paradise of San Francisco ...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964... District Attorney Chesa Boudin, a controversial progressive prosecutor who was booted by voters last year over his soft-on-crime policies, is taking the helm of a new criminal justice center at UC Berkeley School of Law.
Boudin, 42, was named the executive director of the school’s Criminal Law & Justice Center, he announced in a San Francisco Chronicle op-ed Wednesday.
"In my new role, just as I did as district attorney, I will continue to draw on networks of advocates, activists, judges and legal practitioners to support reform and advance safety in ways that are rigorous, principled and responsive to the lived experiences of directly impacted communities," he wrote.
"The center will systematically evaluate the outcomes of specific policies and communicate to the public which policy changes are essential to enhancing public safety and justice," Boudin said.
"Electoral politics will only take the criminal justice reform movement so far. Winning a few big elections isn’t enough, on its own, to create lasting change. I learned a lot while in office, including that how people feel often matters more than data and facts."
Boudin, who came under fire as a soft-on-crime prosecutor in the Golden City, was voted out of office in a recall election in June — and announced in August that he would not try to reclaim the post.

I think he fits the persona of one of the lamé supervillains like that Scarecrow Guy or maybe King Tut. He would probably square off with Aquaman in the battle royal.

[PostMillennial] Turning Point Action pledges $5 million to Wisconsin ballot chasing efforts in collaboration with Scott Presler
Turning Point Action has pledged $5 million to fund ballot chasing efforts in Wisconsin, in collaboration with voting advocate Scott Presler. This initiative is to encourage early voting among the GOP in Wisconsin ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Presler, a conservative activist who runs Early Vote Action, is notable for his ongoing grassroots efforts, including in Wisconsin ahead of the pivotal supreme court race in that state. Turning Point Action has been working on data, technology and ballot chase theory with Presler and Early Vote Action for the 2024 cycle.
"I’m thrilled to be partnering in an even bigger way with Charlie [Kirk] and Tyler [Bowyer] and the whole team at Turning Point Action," Presler said.
"They are one of the few grassroots orgs that truly understands the urgency behind early voting and ballot chasing efforts. I know Wisconsin well and I love its people, and I know what it’s going to take to win this state. Sadly, the RNC and other conservative organizations and PACs didn’t step up to the plate in 2022 and 2023, but TPAction is showing real leadership ahead of 2024. If we don’t win Wisconsin, we don’t win at all. It’s that simple. This money is critical in helping us hire the necessary field staff and equipping them to canvas this state and bank ballots like never before. Their partnership is a game changer."
[NYPOST] The House on Wednesday night passed legislation negotiated by President Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ...the GOP house majority whip. He replaces Eric Cantor, who got whupped because his politix are like Kevin McCarthy's... (R-Calif.) to raise the nation’s borrowing limit and cap future spending.
The so-called Fiscal Responsibility Act, harshly criticized by both hard-line Republicans and far-left Democrats, passed the lower chamber in a 314-117 vote.
The bill now heads to the Senate with only five days to go before, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says, the government would run out of cash to pay debts.
More Democrats than Republicans voted in favor of the polarizing bill.
Seventy-one Republicans joined 46 Democrats in opposing the bill agreed upon between Biden and McCarthy over the Memorial Day weekend.
The 99-page bill to suspend the nation’s debt limit through 2025 in order to avoid a possible federal default, while limiting discretionary spending, was supported by 149 Republicans and 165 Democrats.

You mean "capped" future spending, like Nancy Kerrigan got her knees "capped".
#2
Does that mean that cash for all spending beyond that level will have to be distributed in the type of purple Seagrams bag that I used for collecting on my paper route?

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
