[RedState] On 23 February 1945, four days after the Marines stormed the black sands of Iwo Jima, a Marine patrol was ordered to take the high point on Iwo Jima — Mount Suribachi. Marines and Corpsmen ascended the peak and around 10:30 AM, Marines lifted the colors. Marines and sailors rejoiced at the sight. Warships at sea blasted horns with fighting men around the peak, cheering. But the flag was too small. A second patrol was ordered to raise a second, much larger flag.
Five Marines ascended to the top with a photographer in tow. Joe Rosenthal’s iconic image of Marines raising the flag, for a second time, became the image of the Pacific War. Battle-hardened Marines in the then-familiar combat uniform and camouflage helmets raised the U.S. colors over the Japanese island. Combat to take the island would continue for weeks. Many of the Marines on the summit wouldn’t survive.
While Marines of the V Amphibious Corp., 3rd, 4th, and 5th Divisions were slugging it out on Iwo Jima, my dad was on Guadalcanal. A day after fellow Marines raised the flag on Mount Suribachi, my dad "celebrated" his 22nd birthday. He was a battle-hardened veteran for three assault landings by that point and by then was part of the 6thMarine Division. His Division was preparing for the coming assault on Okinawa.
On February 23, 2023, my dad was one day away from celebrating his 100th birthday. He was happy to have made it to 100. Nearly 7,000 Marines died on Iwo Jima. My dad knew some of them. Many of them never made it past the age of 22.
Also on February 23, 2023, but 3,000 miles away, and a world apart in understanding sacrifice, patriotism, and understanding the meaning of evil, a foolish and embarrassingly ignorant public official was labeling the battle of Iwo Jima "evil." She wasn’t referring to the abject evil of the Japanese Empire which murdered thousands during the 1930s, started a world war, mass raped and murdered inhabitants of Nanking, and tortured, enslaved, and murdered U.S. prisoners, she was calling the Marines taking Iwo Jima, an act of "evil."

My dad got a purple heart on Iwo Jima. He was a combat photographer. Later in life, I beat him to Viet Nam where he ended up as Gen Walt's DIV Comm Chief. He passed at 57.
[WIRE] Elon Musk commented on social media that the nation’s education system and media atmosphere are "racist" against white and Asian people.
The remarks from the world’s second-richest man came as several newspapers dropped the "Dilbert" cartoon after creator Scott Adams remarked that nearly half of black Americans could not agree with the phrase "it’s okay to be white" in a recent survey. Adams jested that he has been "identifying as black" for some time but must have accidentally joined a "hate group" and recommended that white Americans "get the hell away from black people."
Musk responded to a social media post noting that outlets such as the San Francisco Chronicle called Adams racist but gave black Americans who do not believe "it’s okay to be white" a free pass. He observed that American media "was racist against non-white people" for a very long time but is now "racist against" whites and Asians. "Same thing happened with elite colleges and high schools in America," he added. "Maybe they can try not being racist."
Media outlets have advanced the notion that purported white supremacy is a primary threat to the population of the United States. New York Times and Daily Beast contributor Wajahat Ali recently said during an interview on MSNBC that Republican presidential candidate and former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley "uses her brown skin as a weapon against poor black folks and poor brown-black folks" and to "launder white supremacist talking points." Left-wing commentators blamed the March 2021 shooting at a supermarket in Colorado on "white violence" before news broke that the shooter was a Syrian Muslim immigrant; The Washington Post then ran an article stating that one’s verdict on the matter "depends on how you define white."
[Blaze] Erythritol, a popular zero-calorie sugar substitute, has been linked to blood clotting, stroke, heart attack, and death, according to a study published online in Nature Medicine journal Monday.
"The degree of risk was not modest," lead study author Dr. Stanley Hazen, director of the center for cardiovascular diagnostics and prevention at the Cleveland ClinicLerner Research Institute told CNN.
"For people who are at risk for clotting, heart attack and stroke — like people with existing cardiac disease or people with diabetes — I think that there’s sufficient data here to say stay away fromerythritol until more studies are done," Hazen also said.
"This certainly sounds an alarm," Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of cardiovascular prevention and wellness at Denver's National Jewish Health hospital told the outlet. Freeman was not involved in the research.
"There appears to be a clotting risk from using erythritol," Freeman also said.
WHAT DID THE STUDY FIND?
"Our findings reveal that erythritol is both associated with incident MACE risk and fosters enhanced thrombosis," the authors say in their study.

Since 1990, erythritol has had a history of safe use as a sweetener and flavor-enhancer in food and beverage products, and is approved for use by government regulatory agencies of more than 60 countries.
Erythritol is absorbed rapidly into the blood, with peak amounts occurring in under two hours; the majority of an oral dose (80 to 90%) is excreted unchanged in the urine within 24 hours.
Apparently, the study showed...high but considered safe doses of erythritol were shown to be associated by heightened blood clotting ... .
So don't overdo the stuff, or you'll get vax symptoms. Hey! I wonder if the study controlled for vaccination status?

But don't worry about the mRNA jabs that do the same things.

I have ignored all the health hysteria during my lifetime and somehow, by some inexplicable miracle, have made it to 74.

Sooner or later we will all die. The only question is when and how. I prefer later and not from diabetes or morbid obesity so I avoid sugar like the plague.

I can get by nicely without the artificial crap too.

A BS article? I tried looking up "fromerythritol" and found scant information on it. Even Wikipedia doesn't have an article on this.
And there's no mention of what brand name(s) the sweeter is sold under.

From the cited study, an 'oh, by the way' - Many observational epidemiological studies report that artificial sweetener use is associated with various adverse health outcomes including CVD mortality, while others do not.
One possible explanation for these conflicting findings is the difficulty in reliably quantifying that vascular disease and thrombosis are multifactorial phenotypes. [You mean, like, complex relationships? Ya think?]
The association of circulating erythritol levels with incident CVD event risks and enhanced thrombosis formation in preclinical models may thus involve factors beyond platelet responsiveness.
Like spike proteins, perhaps? Family history? Genetic makeup? SO 'more study' is suggested.

[NPASyria] February 23 marked the eighth anniversary of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) 2015 attack against the Assyrian Christians of Tel Tamr, west of the city of Hasakah, in northeast Syrian.
Prior to the Syrian War, the town of Tel Tamr, Hasakah and the Khabur villages were home to around 17.000 Assyrians. Today, Tel Tamr and the surrounding Khabur villages are home to less than 1,500 Assyrian.
In the early morning hours, ISIS fighters descended from Mount Abdul’aziz (Kurdish: Kezwan) on the Assyrian villages located on the southern banks of the Khabur River. The attack came mere months after ISIS genocide against the Kurdish-speaking Yazidi ethno-religious community in Sinjar (Shengal), northern Iraq.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
