Biden admin accuses Arizona of trespassing by building barrier on U.S.-Mexico border
[FoxNews] Shipping containers placed along US border prevent Bureau of Reclamation from performing its mission.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey was accused this week by the Biden administration of trespassing as the Republican governor makes efforts to fill gaps along the U.S.-Mexico border with shipping containers.

Ducey announced last week that he would have crews install shipping containers along a section of the border to fill gaps not covered by a wall. The announcement came two weeks after federal officials ordered him to take down containers he had placed in the southwestern part of the state.

The Republican governor then sued and requested the courts allow Arizona to keep 100 shipping containers, double stacked with barbed wire on top, in place near Yuma.

The containers were put in place in August to fill gaps in the border, which Ducey said was pushing back against "the inaction of the Biden administration in stopping migrants from entering the state from Mexico," according to the Associated Press.

Ducey’s plan is to cover a 10-mile section of the border using more than 2,700 containers, each 60-feet long.

But the Biden administration continues to demand Ducey remove the barriers, with claims that the state is trespassing on federal lands.

"The unauthorized placement of those containers constitutes a violation of federal law and is a trespass against the United States," Jacklynn Gould, regional director for the Bureau of Reclamation’s Lower Colorado Basin said in a letter to Arizona. "That trespass is harming federal lands and resources and impeding Reclamation’s ability to perform its mission."

Gould’s department falls under the Department of Interior, and in her letter, she stated a contract was awarded by the Department of Homeland Security to close gaps near Morelos Dam.

Additionally, she said she expects another award being handed out for two more gaps in the area.

"They say this is federal land, and it is, but it would be trespassing supposedly to put these containers on there," Yuma Mayor Douglas Nicholls, also a Republican, said in an interview with Fox News. "Well, my contention is that 300,000 people that have come through this year alone, they’ve been trespassing, and I don’t remember seeing a letter going out to anybody to try to stop any of that."

Since the project began in August, 130 shipping containers were stacked within 11 days, allowing the state to fill 3,900 feet of open border.

Israel must get rid of its nuclear weapons, UNGA majority decides
How fortunate that the UN General Assembly is a talk shop, whose votes have no power whatsoever. And Egypt ought to be ashamed of itself — is it wise to disarm Israel while Iran is such a threat?
[JPost] Israel must dispose of all its nuclear weapons and place its nuclear sites under the International Atomic Energy Agency’s purview, the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee stated in an initial 152-5 vote.

The five nations that opposed Friday’s resolution on the “risk of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East” were: Canada, Israel, Micronesia, Palau and the United States. Another 24 countries abstained, including European Union members.

The annual resolution submitted by Egypt to the UNGA in New York was sponsored by the Palestinian Authority and 19 counties including Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Mikati says Aoun's govt. resignation decree 'lacks any constitutional value'
Caretaker PM and PM-designate Najib Mikati swiftly hit back Sunday at President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
, saying that the decree that he issued to accept the caretaker cabinet’s resignation "lacks any constitutional value."

"The government will continue to perform all its constitutional duties, including acting in caretaker capacity in line with the texts of the constitution and the laws that govern its work," said Mikati in a letter to Parliament Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
...Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
.

The caretaker government is "already resigned, as per the constitution’s stipulations," Mikati noted.

He added that acting in caretaker capacity is a "constitutional duty," leaving it to parliament to voice "any conflicting opinion" in this regard.

Aoun, who announced the decree in his farewell speech earlier in the day, has argued that the caretaker cabinet cannot assume the president's powers in the event of a presidential vacuum.

Power vacuum begins as Aoun vacates presidential palace
President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
vacated the presidential palace on Sunday, amid acclaim from his supporters, a day before his mandate expires without a designated successor, which threatens a new power vacuum in the crisis-torn country.

A few thousand well-wishers gathered to pay tribute to Aoun, a former army chief and the founder of the Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
FPM supporters, some brandishing portraits of the outgoing head of state widely referred to as "General", flocked to the presidential palace in the hills above the capital Beirut, where some had spent the night in tents, to accompany him to his private home.

"We have come to escort the president at the end of his mandate, to tell him that we are with him and that we will continue the struggle by his side," said teacher Joumana Nahed.

Lebanese politicians have tried but failed four times in a month to agree on electing a successor after Aoun's six-year term ends Monday, stoking fears of a deepening political crisis.

The term of Aoun, who is in his late 80s, was marred by mass popular protests, a severe economic crisis and currency collapse, and the August 2020 portside blast of ammonium nitrate that killed hundreds and laid waste to swathes of the capital.

Neither the Hezbollah camp, the powerful armed movement which dominates political life in Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, nor its opponents have the clear majority to impose a candidate to succeed him.

Lebanon is being run by a caretaker government as political divisions have prevented the formation of a new cabinet ever since legislative elections in the spring. At the beginning of his farewell speech on Sunday, Aoun announced that he has signed a decree accepting the caretaker cabinet's "resignation," a move described by many constitutional experts, observers and political parties as nonexistent in the constitution.

This comes at a time Lebanon has yet to enact most of the reforms required for it to access billions of dollars in loans from the International Monetary Fund.

Some at the palace Sunday recalled previous turbulence in the country that was torn by the bloody 1975-1990 civil war and decades of military intervention by neighbor Syria.

Nabil Rahbani, 59, said he had camped outside the presidential palace once before, "between 1989 and 1990, before the Syrian air force dislodged the general from Baabda Palace."

Bassil says FPM has unrevealed yet 'logical' presidential candidate
Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
chief Jebran Bassil sterssed Sunday that the FPM will not endorse the presidential nomination of Marada Movement
the personal militia of Suleiman Franjieh, president of Lebanon at the outbreak of the civil war, currently Syrian toadies, but you never know when that could change...
chief Suleiman Franjieh.

"Void will exchaust those who are void and they are betting on it. Vacuum will cost the country but it will not deter us from our stance," Bassil told news hounds in Rabieh after the departure of President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
from the Baabda Palace.

Asked about his own nomination for the country’s top post, Bassil said: "Can you forget about me? If you forget me you will be relieved."

"We have our logical candidate but we have nominated him in order to facilitate consensus," Bassil added, noting that "all parties are not being able to agree on a candidate who can reach the presidency."

US sanctions Iranian group that put bounty on Rushdie’s life
[IsraelTimes] Move comes months after British-American author was violent mostly peacefully attacked at a literary event, losing sight in one eye and the use of a hand

The US is imposing financial penalties on an Iranian-based organization that raised money to target British-American author Salman Rushdie, who was violent mostly peacefully attacked in August at a literary event.

The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned the 15 Khordad Foundation, which issued a multimillion-dollar bounty for the killing of Rushdie.

He wrote "The Satanic Verses," which some Moslems consider blasphemous.

American officials say as recently as 2012, the 15 Khordad Foundation raised its bounty to $3.3 million, claiming the full sum would be given to anyone who assassinated Rushdie.

Sanctions records show the organization was created in 1979.

Rushdie’s agent says the author has lost sight in one eye and the use of a hand as he recovers from an attack by a man who rushed the stage at the event in western New York.

An News Agency that Dare Not be Named news hound witnessed the attacker confront Rushdie on stage at the Chautauqua Institution and stab or punch him 10 to 15 times as he was being introduced.

The author was pushed or fell to the floor, and the man was arrested.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the organization is also being designated for diplomatic penalties for "providing financial support for an act of terrorism."

He said the US condemns the attack on Rushdie "in the strongest terms as a blatant assault on freedom of speech and an act of terrorism."

The sanctions and designations deny the group access to any property or financial assets held in the US, and the ability to travel to the US.

"The United States will not waver in its determination to stand up to threats posed by Iranian authorities against the universal rights of freedom of expression, freedom of religion or belief, and freedom of the press," said Brian Nelson, the Treasury’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

"This act of violence, which has been praised by the Iranian regime, is appalling. We all hope for Salman Rushdie’s speedy recovery following the attack on his life."

The US has hit Iran’s government with a host of sanctions this year for a variety of actions related to human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
abuses.

Financial penalties were imposed on Iran’s government after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September.

Lebanese politician close to Hezbollah: ‘We went for sustainable peace’ with Israel
[IsraelTimes] Wiam Wahhab argues maritime deal ensures sides will avoid fighting, claims Israel ’cannot wage war’ due to balance of power created by Hezbollah and Paleostinians.

A Lebanese Druze politician with close ties to the Hezbollah terror group has said the new maritime border agreement with Israel is a move toward "sustainable peace."

Speaking to al-Jadeed TV, Wiam Wahhab, head of the Arab Unification Party, which is not in parliament, said that Israel now "cannot wage war" against Lebanon Hezbollahstan
...In 2020 Hezbollah blew up a considerable portion of Beirut and many of its inhabitants when its ammonium nitrate facility exploded. They blamed it on... somebody else. It wasn't them though. Trust them on that. And it ain't never coming to trial...
due to the "balance of power" created by Hezbollah and the fighting of "Paleostinians from within."

He argued that "the [Paleostinian] campaign from within it is better than a campaign from without," apparently meaning Paleostinian affairs should be left to the Paleostinians, rather than Hezbollah inserting itself into the conflict.

To the host’s shock, Wahhab said: "In my opinion [by signing the deal] we went for sustainable peace. Let’s not kid around."

The interviewer responded: "Oof. Sustainable peace? Then you’ve gone for normalization," to which Wahhab answered once again, "sustainable peace."

Israel and Lebanon’s landmark maritime deal went into effect Thursday evening after a ceremony at a UN base near the border, ending years of conflict over the matter and repeated saber-rattling by the Hezbollah terror group.

Israel and Lebanon are technically still at war and the deal does not touch on the land border.

After the agreement was sealed on Thursday, Hezbollah said it would end its special mobilization against Israel, having threatened to attack if Jerusalem began extracting natural gas at the Karish drilling site before a deal was finalized. Gas extraction began at Karish on Wednesday.

Kan news reported Friday that the Israeli military had lowered its alert level on the northern border.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid said the agreement represented de facto recognition of Israel by Lebanon.

While Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun
...president of Leb, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
rejected this claim, the chief Lebanese negotiator spoke of "a new era" and invoked the Abraham Accords treaties between Israel and other regional states.

The deal came as Lebanon hopes to extract itself from what the World Bank calls one of the worst economic crises in modern world history, and as Lapid sought to lock in a major achievement, days ahead of a general election on November 1.

The agreement ends a long-running dispute over some 860 square kilometers (330 square miles) of the Mediterranean Sea, covering Israel’s Karish and Lebanon’s Qana gas fields.

Under the deal, Israel receives recognition for a buoy-marked boundary it established in 2000, five kilometers (3.1 miles) off the coast of the northern town of Rosh Hanikra.

After that, Israel’s border will follow the southern edge of the disputed area known as Line 23.

Lebanon will enjoy the economic benefits of the area north of Line 23, including the Qana field, while Israel moves ahead with gas production at the Karish field and will receive revenues from Qana if and when it begins operations.
