Two tiers of justice [Washington Examiner] The California Highway Patrol released photos and videos from the night the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
In the newly unveiled footage, Paul Pelosi, 82, is heard slurring his words as police question him over his level of intoxication and direct him through sobriety tests. Pelosi pleaded guilty to one charge of DUI on Tuesday in exchange for a five-day prison sentence and additional penalties.

However, Pelosi has already served two days, received credit for two additional days, and will participate in a work program for the remaining time, Politico reported.
Dashcam footage obtained by the Washington Examiner showed Pelosi informing an officer on the scene that he drank a glass of champagne and a glass of wine that night. One of the officers noted that Pelosi was grasping the patrol vehicle to maintain his balance.

^ Along the lines of Pauline Kael, they probably don't know anyone who drives an American car, let alone a truck.

My guess is the local BMW dealer got a check in the mail and a follow-up call from an attorney. Everything these people do must be laundered in some manner.
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Using a Kalashnikov rifle, a man shot and killed his married sister and another married polygamous man for engaging in extramarital sexual intercourse in the absence of her husband, according to local Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... officials in the northern province of Faryab.
Surely it would not have been better in the presence of her husband! Or her brother, either...
A man and a woman were allegedly shot in the Kohistan ...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns.... district of Faryab province for engaging in an affair, according to local sources.
According to Mohammad Ismail Furqani, Taliban’s Counter-Crimes director of the Faryab Chief of Police, the "honor killing" event occurred on Monday night, 22nd of August in the Kohistan district of Faryab province as the killer caught his sister and the man "red-handed", having sex.
According to the Faryab police, the woman’s brother used a Kalashnikov to shoot both of the victims as they were having consensual sex. They were both married, but not to each other.
The man, who was shot, according to local sources in the province of Faryab, was already married to two other women, had 11 children, and had an affair with another married woman.
The murderer has turned himself into the police in Faryab, according to Taliban official Furqani, and is currently in their custody.
More suicides, homicides, murders, and honor killings have occurred recently as a result of an increase in domestic violence, personal enmity, family blood feuds, and illicit relationships.

And where was the absent husband? Off goat fancying? Partaking of the quaint cultural experience of the "dancing boys?"

[France24] The euro has fallen below parity with the dollar, diving to its lowest level in 20 years and ending a one-to-one exchange rate with the U.S. currency.
It's a psychological barrier in the markets. But psychology is important, and the euro's slide underlines the foreboding in the 19 European countries using the currency as they struggle with an energy crisis caused by Russia's war in Ukraine.
Here's why the euro's slide is happening and what impact it could have:
struggle with an energy crisis caused by Russia's war in Ukraine.
Well.....their reaction to Russia/Ukraine. And Covid response...and overall energy policy of the last 10 years...Merkal gets a recognition...subsidizing the energy needs of the African and Asian imports. A general clusterfuck really.
Not sure who is worse though. Europe and their decade long goal of energy rationing, or USA who was just ducky two years ago then the politicians just flipping the switch to off.
[CONFOUNDEDINTEREST.NET] Baby, let me take you home is getting more difficult as mortgage rates approach 6%.
The National Association of Realtors’ Homebuyer Affordability Index for fixed-rate mortgages is now at the lowest reading since 2006 and the peak of the 2005-2007 housing bubble that burst catastrophically.
The reason? The Federal Reserve, in their attempt to put out the inflation fire (caused by 1) excessive monetary stimulus since late 2008, 2) rampant Federal spending and 3) Biden’s green energy ... the attempt to produce energy without using fossil fuel. The preferred methods are solar, wind, geothermal, phlogiston, philosophers' stones, and rattling bears' teeth. The approach with the most promise involves attaching generators to perpetual motion machines, but using Words of Power to summon energy-rich demons may also work. The green in the term refers to the vast number of dollars that have been thrown at the problem since 1973 with indifferent results... policies, driving up prices.

Seriously, what do we own outright of value now that isn't taxed and or Federal/State/County/City controls and subjected to confiscation, if taxes, fee's, permits or whatever they invent isn't paid?

My first home mortgage was over 16%. Refinanced a couple years later when the rates went down six points. Did that again a few years later when it went to just under six, and thought we were golden.
Always paid more than the minimum, which came right off the principal with no penalties.

[JustTheNews] More than two dozen Baltimore voters received their 2020 election ballots earlier this month after the U.S. Postal Service discovered a tray of undelivered mail nearly two years too late.
The Baltimore City Board of Elections is working to figure out why the ballots were delivered late. President Joe Biden ...... 46th president of the U.S. I'm not working for you. Don't be such a horse's ass. Don't say he didn't warn us...... won the heavily-Democrat city by a landslide — about eight votes to every ballot cast for then-President Trump.
Mail-in ballots technically should be prioritized, but some southeast Baltimore homes received their 2020 ballots this month.
"The Postal Service discovered a tray of undelivered mail in a Baltimore facility on Friday, Aug. 5," a USPS spokesperson told WMAR-TV.
The spokesperson also said the tray had what appeared to be 26 blank ballots from the Baltimore City Board of Elections to addresses with a Baltimore ZIP code and that they were delivered Aug. 6.
"We deeply regret the late delivery of these mail pieces," he also said.
Baltimore City Election Director Armstead Jones said: "It would’ve been nice if they could’ve contacted us, so the voters wouldn’t have been confused."
Jones, who worked as a part-time postal worker in college, said that while individual pieces of mail can be lost, "having a tray lost is a little different story."
Nick Frisone, a Baltimore resident who received his 2020 ballot this month, said he is unlikely to go back to mail-in voting.
"If there’s another pandemic, I’ll get a hazmat suit and just go in-person," he said.
Maryland has experienced other issues in recent elections. The Frederick County Board of Elections decertified the state's 2022 primary election results in the county after finding a problem with vote totals earlier this month.

Some 40 presidential terms and some two hundred and fifty years have come and gone without the assistance of computerized voting, mail-in ballots, and drop boxes.
After having seen the corruption these methods produce, why must we insist on continuing with them now? A rhetorical question of course.

We've had mail in ballots for decades - usually reserved for those in uniform under federal orders to be someplace else in the world other than their local voting location.

In the cases where you ask for a mail-in and don't receive it, vote provisionally. In some cases you may find that your missing mail-in ballot was voted. In that case, you have uncovered fraud.

I was given a mail-in ballot two years ago and I got another one last month. That time and this time around I'll have it with me when I go to vote and if it ever got to the point where someone voted in my stead and they tried to deny me my vote, I'll wave it in their faces as Hurricane Raj quickly gets to Category 5.
[DAWN] The Islamabad police has started the paperwork but haven't done much else against former prime minister Imran Khan ...aka The Great Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight... and other top leaders of the PTI for violations of Section 144 (ban on public gatherings exceeding four persons) in the capital on August 20 — the day the party held a rally to protest against incarcerated member Shahbaz Gill's arrest.
The first information report (FIR), a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, was registered on August 22 at the Aabpara cop shoppe under sections 109 (punishment of abetment if the Act abetted committed In consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistain Penal Code.
The complaint, filed by Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Muhammad Anwar, also included section 2 (restriction on the use of loudspeakers) of the Control of Loudspeaker and Sound Amplifiers Act, 1965.
