FOX 5: ATLANTA - Atlanta police are investigating a drive-by shooting at a gas station on Northside Drive that sent eight people to the hospital with injuries early Sunday morning.
Two people are in critical condition, while six others are expected to be ok, after a shooting just before 1 a.m. outside the Shell gas station next to the Diamond Night Club.
"An unknown individual drove up in a vehicle and starting shooting at them," APD’s Zone 2 Commander Major Ailen Mitchell said.
Atlanta Police said six of the victims, ages 16 to 21, were women and two others, ages 18 to 21, were men.
Investigators are unclear on why the gunman fired those shots at nearly a dozen people who were in the parking lot talking at the time.
Now, shattered glass windows and concern from residents are what’s left of the scene.

#25 Beavis I too used to go mushroom hunting with my father as a child; It was magic. Now that I have had a 1/2 a Century to reflect upon this experience, and other simple, magical wonders of his, I remember them fondly and have gained more respect for him in that time. Beavis, you have given you children a very big gift, not many people today have the "know how" of living off the land... Bravo to you! ... my fellow Rantburger. This, your mushrooming, will resonate in their memories long after we past from this earth... I know, I have wished I could have this time with my Dad again... so peaceful. so rewarding, simply magical.

[Washington Examiner] Elon Musk denied a report on Sunday that he had an affair with Nicole Shanahan, the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brinn.
The billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX called the Wall Street Journel report "total bs," and he called on the newspaper to run stories that "actually matter." The report is the latest in a string of scandals that have plagued Musk since he announced his intention to purchase the social media platform Twitter, a deal he is in the process of backing out of.
"This is total bs. Sergey and I are friends and were at a party together last night! I’ve only seen Nicole twice in three years, both times with many other people around. Nothing romantic," Musk said in a tweet published on Sunday.

The Mirror Line will consist of two 1,600 feet tall, carbon neutral buildings with vertical farming that run parallel to each other and go across desert, mountains, and coastal areas
When completed, the $1 trillion megabuilding will hold up to 5million people and people will be able to commute end-to-end in 20 minutes

BMW owners have had a well earned rep for many years now.
What if the Congress applied its Gun Control logic to BMW owner's. Like requiring limits on horse power and Red Flag checks for Ownership or continued use?

Focusing on one factor, sunspots, and trying to tie every storm, heat wave, etc. to that is at least as stupid and doing the same with atmospheric CO2.
Look at the charts in the post. What would the correlation be between the sunspot chart and the UAH global temp chart? Fairly obviously they don't correlate.

A wildfire near Yosemite National Park in California continued to grow Sunday as more than 2,000 firefighters backed by 17 helicopters attempted to contain the blaze, which has already consumed more than 14,200 acres.
[Aljazeera] Drug addiction has long been a problem in Afghanistan, the world’s biggest producer of opium and heroin and now a chief source of methamphetamine.
Drug use has been driven by persistent poverty and decades of war that left few families unscarred.
It appears to be getting worse since the country’s economy collapsed following the seizure of power by the Taliban in August 2021 and the subsequent halt of international financing.
Families once able to get by found their sources of income cut off, leaving many barely able to afford food. Millions have joined the ranks of the impoverished.
Drug users can be found around the capital, Kabul, living in parks and sewage drains, under bridges and on open hillsides.
A 2015 survey by the United Nations estimated that up to 2.3 million people had used drugs that year, which would have amounted to about 5 percent of the population at the time.
Seven years later, the number is not known, but it is believed to have only increased, according to Dr Zalmel, the head of the Drug Demand Reduction Department, who like many Afghans, uses only one name.
The Taliban has launched an aggressive campaign to eradicate poppy cultivation. At the same time, they inherited the deposed, internationally-backed government’s policy of forcing drug users into camps.
Earlier this summer, Taliban fighters stormed two areas frequented by drug users, one on the hillside and another under a bridge.
They collected about 1,500 people, officials said. They were taken to the Avicenna Medical Hospital for Drug Treatment, a former United States military base. It is the largest of several treatment camps around Kabul.

[Construction Index] Construction of Egypt’s US30b El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, has begun with a special ceremony attended by Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom’s director general, and Mohamed Shaker, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy.
Built by Russia’s Rosatom, the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, the country’s first nuclear power plant, will consist of 4 units with a generating capacity equivalent to 1200MW per unit using generation III+ VVER-1200 reactors (pressurized water reactors).
Speaking at the ceremony, which included a ceremonial first concrete pour, Alexey Likhachev said: "The construction launch at the El-Dabaa NPP Unit 1 means Egypt has joined the nuclear club. Rosatom will build cutting-edge power units of VVER-1200 design in the Arab Republic of Egypt. We have gained experience constructing and operating NPPs with such reactors both in Russia and abroad.
"The construction of the nuclear power plant will allow Egypt to reach a new level of technology, industry and education development. The plant will be the largest project of the Russian-Egyptian cooperation since the Aswan High Dam. Having its own nuclear energy industry has been a dream for the Egyptian people for more than half a century, and it is a great honour for Rosatom to make this dream come true."
Mohamed Shaker added: "The ceremony commemorating the pouring of the first concrete for unit 1 is a great delight for us. The commencement of full-scale construction of unit 1 is a historic event for Egypt. The political leadership and the Egyptian-Russian cooperation contributed to the implementation of this ambitious project despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, which did not have a negative impact on the project."
The El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant will be constructed in the city of El-Dabaa, Matrouh Governorate, on the Mediterranean coast, roughly 300 km north-west of Cairo.

There’s so much jealousy and racism in that comment.
Have you ever been to Egypt, Wodan 1785 USA? Working, I mean, not just visiting the pyramids and taking a cruise up the Nile to Thebes.
Mr. Wife spent a year mostly in Egypt, occasionally flying home. For the first six months of that year he twiddled his thumbs waiting to start the project as soon as the ordered chemicals arrived — six months into it, after telling him every few days that the stuff would arrive momentarily, it was reluctantly revealed that actually they hadn’t placed the order yet. He then spent the next six months cleaning the desert rat mummies out of the equipment that had been sitting there waiting to be started up for five years.
He took photos of one of the supplier factories — holes in the floor of the mezzanine covered with cardboard, leaking bags of caustic chemicals carried around workers’ heads... nothing less than telling the workers that the chemicals would cause impotence got them to wear safety shoes. They pointed with pride to a gentleman curled up asleep in a corner — he had to sleep at work because he had two wives at home, who wore him out. Inshallah — no care need be taken, because bad things happen only when Allah wills it, and only because Allah wills it.
The inshallah approach does not mesh well with the precision needed to run a nuclear power plant.
None of that is racism or bigotry, just typical experiences in a Third World country. Nor would an Egyptian accept the idea of racism — as far as they’re concerned, they are white as white Americans, and their idea of what Blacks are would more than meet your definition racism.
[MAIL] Today, with the help of Ogden-Smith's relatives and residents living in and close to the village of Querrien, I can recount the extraordinary events of July 29, 1944 – and explain why the valour of these three heroes will, hopefully, be championed for ever more.
One thing is certain: without men such as Colin Ogden-Smith, Maurice Miodon and Louis Fiche, France would never have been liberated and Hitler would not have been defeated.
The story begins in mid 1944 when the Allied Forces were about to launch Operation Overlord, the invasion of German-occupied France. On June 6 1944, the D-Day landings took place along 60 miles of Normandy coast, with the British and Canadians going ashore on the eastern beaches and the Americans landing to the west. Nearby Brittany, with its deep-water ports, was also seen as strategically important and so, despite the area being well defended by the Germans, British Special Forces units were inserted into the region.
In the first week of July, Major Ogden-Smith learnt that it was time for his own three-man team to go into action. At that time, he was 34 years old and the middle of three sons who all served with distinction in the British Armed Forces during the war. He was married with a six-month-old daughter.
Ogden-Smith had been among the first to volunteer for the newly formed Commandos, and had already seen action in North Africa and Crete. In 1942, he transferred to the highly-secretive Special Operations Executive (SOE) and joined the Small Scale Raiding Force to carry out raids across the Channel.
Next, he volunteered for a clandestine group known as the Jedburghs who were soon being trained to parachute into enemy-occupied France in the aftermath of D-Day to link up with the French Resistance, or Maquis.
[JPost] Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro kicked off his candidacy for re-election at a party event in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday with a speech focused on God, guns and family, as the right-wing leader attempts to claw back the commanding lead established by his main rival, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The right-wing Liberal Party (PL) tapped Bolsonaro as its nominee for the October 2 vote before an audience of several thousand in Rio's Maracanazinho stadium, a move considered the official beginning of Bolsonaro's candidacy under Brazilian law.
The nomination comes as the president continues to launch baseless attacks on the reliability of the nation's electronic voting system, casting doubt on whether he would accept defeat. While the president did not touch directly on those matters on Sunday - focusing instead on socially conservative stances popular with his base - his speech was heavy with praise for the armed forces who he said shared his concerns.
"The army is on our side," he told cheering supporters. "It's an army that doesn't accept corruption, doesn't accept fraud. This is an army that wants transparency."
With his image battered by inflation, Bolsonaro is down almost 20 percentage points in some polls to Lula, who governed the nation from 2003 through 2010 and lifted millions out of poverty thanks to aggressive social spending during a period of rapid commodity-driven growth.
Lula's star has fallen in recent years due to high-level corruption probes - he spent over a year and a half in jail due to a graft conviction that was later overturned - but he remains a relatively popular figure among Brazilians.
For Bolsonaro fans here, however, waving Brazilian flags and bedecked in the national soccer jersey, the possibility of a Lula comeback is unconscionable.
The biggest jeers came when Bolsonaro mentioned Brazil's Supreme Court, whose members have gone to battle with Bolsonaro allies over unfounded election fraud claims.

[Korrespondent] 21:55 Zelensky announced an important week in an evening video message: "For the first time we will celebrate the Day of Ukrainian Statehood on July 28. During such a brutal war, in its sixth month. After eight years of war in the Donbas... This week there will be important visits from our partners, there will be important negotiations, and most importantly, there will be further advancement of Ukrainian positions, at the front, in diplomacy and in the economy."
21:16 Scholz admitted that Germany's previous policy towards the Russian Federation was erroneous: "We, the new German government, decided in advance to get rid of energy dependence on Russia as quickly as possible. Back in December last year, that is, in two months before the start of the war, we worked out the issue of energy supply for our country under the most unfavorable scenario of events. When Putin started his war in February, we were already capable of action."
According to the chancellor, Germany will not deviate from the path of completely abandoning Russian oil and gas. Already, gas consumption has been reduced from 50% to 30%, and by December 2022, the country will completely abandon Russian oil. Berlin also revised its attitude towards defense: the Bundeswehr has already been urgently allocated 100 billion euros. Germany will actively and directly use its troops to reinforce NATO's eastern flank.
20:32 Violators of the curfew are taken "on a pencil" - military commissars will first of all look at them if necessary, call them up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, First Deputy Interior Minister Yevgeny Yenin said in an interview with Telegraph. According to him, a significant part of Ukrainians voluntarily went to the front on their own initiative, although they could have avoided this, since they were not in the first line of mobilization. And it is unfair that others allow themselves to party and relax on the beaches.
"We are actively helping the recruitment centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to replenish the reserve. Therefore, we have established very close cooperation in many areas. We take curfew violators on a pencil. This does not mean that they will be drafted into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine tomorrow. But when the question arises about In this case, it is precisely this category of people that the military commissars will look at in the first place," Yenin explained.
19:29 The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled the attacks of the Russians in the Luhansk region - the invaders still cannot take Belogorovka and Verkhnekamenskoye. In the Bakhmut area, Russian troops are rebuffed, fighting continues. In the Kherson region, the enemy suffered losses in two directions and chaotically retreated, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the evening report .
19:14 In the occupied city of Bryanka, Luhansk region, several hundred Russian contract soldiers are kept in basements who refused to continue fighting with Ukraine, writes The Insider with reference to their relatives. They are kept in terrible conditions and beaten, forcing them to return to the front. The military command of the Russian Federation declares that it has nothing to do with the detention. Relatives are told that contract soldiers are being held by "Luhansk military", although, according to relatives, the Wagner PMC is guarding the refuseniks.
19:01 The turning point at the front in the Kherson region has already arrived, adviser to the head of the Kherson OVA Serhiy Khlan believes: "We can say that by September the Kherson region will definitely be liberated, and all the plans of the occupiers will fail." He added that the strikes on the Antonovsky and Darevsky bridges, as well as on warehouses, command posts, are the results of preparatory work, and now the question is more powerful and accurate artillery strikes on the front line and cleaning up the Russians in their positions.
18:32 Lavrov said that Russia would "help the Ukrainian people" get rid of the absolutely "anti-people and anti-historical regime": "We pity Ukrainian history, which is crumbling before our eyes, and we pity those who succumbed to the state propaganda of the Kiev regime." Lavrov stressed that the Russian and Ukrainian peoples "will continue to live together."
17:48 Rocket and artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed an enemy battery of the S-300 air defense system in the Zelenotropinsky district of the Kherson region, the Pivden operational command reported. 15:56 Ukraine could export 60 million tons of grain over the next 8-9 months if the ports are not blocked, but Russia's strike on Odessa showed that it would not be so easy, Zelensky's economic adviser Oleg Ustenko said in an interview with Reuters. According to him, Ukraine can earn $10 billion by selling 20 million tons of grain in silos and 40 million tons of new crop.
The entire harvest is 60 million tons, of which 20 million are for domestic consumption. "But taking into account what Russia is doing in the Black Sea, and yesterday's shelling of the port of Odessa, it shows that this will definitely not work," Ustenko said.
15:09 Lavrov said that the Russian Federation "has no prejudice" against resuming negotiations with Ukraine on a wider range of issues, "but the choice is up to Kiev."
14:57 Poland wants to create the largest ground forces in the European Union, Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said in an interview with Sieci: "Among European NATO countries, we will have the strongest ground forces. Malyar stressed that Ukraine has one of the highest numbers of women in the armed forces among NATO countries.
13:22 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that "aircraft were hit by a high-precision weapon strike" at the Kanatov military airfield in the Kirovograd region. And in Nikolaev, "high-precision weapons" allegedly struck "military warehouses on the territory of a diesel locomotive repair plant."

Entry and exit of vessels to the indicated seaports will be carried out by forming a caravan, which will be accompanied by a leading vessel."
12:39 The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that in the seaport of Odessa, on the territory of a ship repair plant, "a Ukrainian warship that was in the dock was destroyed by sea-based high-precision long-range missiles." Also, allegedly, "a warehouse of Harpoon anti-ship missiles supplied by the United States was destroyed, and the production facilities of an enterprise for the repair of Ukrainian warships were disabled."

Explosions were also heard in an easterly direction from the city - near the village of Konstantinovka. The railway infrastructure in the Melitopol region, which was used by the occupiers to transport military equipment and personnel in the directions of Vasilyevka and Tokmak, was damaged - this will significantly complicate the logistics of the enemy.

A dirty little war remotely manipulated by the west. Recession, food crisis, energy crisis, next Taiwan bluff with China to be called. Someone has to try a little rationality.

Seigniorage. I am referring to the costs to move all of those US Trade Deficit dollars out of the US and buy things elsewhere in other nation's currencies...

So lets put the spy stuff aside. Farmland is a great Invesment. China is almost bankrupt, living on debt. Their economy is in the toilette. Buying US property is good for them, but short sighted. Japan did the same thing before their economic collapse. They bought high rise buildings, then had to sell them because they bought them with debt. China is making the same mistake, as they collapse their farmlad will get sold...

[DAWN] The man accused of assassinating Japan’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe is set to undergo an examination of his mental condition around the time of the incident, local media reported on Saturday. Trepanning?
Abe was shot full of holes on the campaign trail on July 8 in the western city of Nara, two days before the country’s upper house elections.
His accused killer Tetsuya Yamagami is in jug and reportedly targeted Abe because he believed the former leader was linked to the Unification Church.
On Friday, the Nara District Court approved a request by the local public prosecutors office for a psychiatric examination of 41-year-old Yamagami, the Asahi Shimbun and other local media reported, citing unnamed investigative sources. The examination is expected to wrap up in late November, the reports said.
Investigative questioning of the suspect will be halted during the mental examination.

Truckers have been protesting California's Assembly Bill 5, a law requiring certain industries to classify contractors as regular benefitted employees
Photos of the port showed rows of stacked shipping containers with nowhere to go and an armada of fully loaded freighters queued up, unable to unload
Truckers threaten to make strike 'indefinite'
Hundreds of International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) members declined to cross blockade

I remember the Perfect Storm movie and how devastating the consequences were. It feels like this is yet another component that is bringing aspects of a New Great Depression to the US with a far greater urban/unskilled population that is far more violent and armed that the 1930's.
The high cost/low net profit of inner-city retail will lead to large scale closures of many supermarkets if this continues, as will the insane energy starvation the Puppet Show zealots are driving in the most energy rich nation on earth.
IF food deserts form in the deeply feral-youth infested blue cities it will produce very nasty predation in our suburbs I fear, tragically but predictably visible as apparent racial conflict.
Exactly the kind of manufactured predicate to garner support from the woke left for tyrannical responses by the federal government.
This feels almost like a tabletop exercise held somewhere near Smoke Bomb Hill, but with real enactors, in real time. Why is that?

Not a lot about the strike in the mainstream media. For example, searching CNN for "oakland truckers strike" returns zip. OK, not exactly zip, but the 2 results are Day 3 of the Republican National Convention in 2020 and an article on the Occupy movement from 2011.
As Frank said, this is all about AB5 that essentially bans independent contractors.

...Keep that armor in mind. The men in those tanks are the spiritual heirs of the men who charged Nazi machine guns while on horseback, carrying lances.
I sincerely doubt the Russians are smart enough to remember that.

memories of the unending agony and devastation of the German and Russian collars for much of the twentieth century are far fresher there. Like the Israeli's, this reflects a never again attitude and the increasing awareness of the decline of US power to defend Europe or defeat China I fear. The question is, did they wake up in time.

Putin's Russia trying to avoid NATO on its border
Not exactly. The goal is a defensible position against NATO forces on its border. Ukraine is big and flat. From the Russian point of view, the defensible areas are along the Dnipro River in the east or the narrow portion of the Ukr/Polish border over in the west.
[RT] The EU is planning to increase liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from Nigeria amid concerns that supply from Russia may be cut, according to the deputy director general of the European Commission’s Energy Department.
"Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... is in a tight spot in relation to gas, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the instability in our gas market and the threat of cutting off supply altogether," Matthew Baldwin said at a news conference in Abuja on Friday.
"So, we have launched the energy platform task force and the primary goal is to reach out to our reliable partners such as Nigeria to replace the gas from Russia with gas from reliable partners," he said.
The EU is Nigeria’s major LNG buyer, with 60% of all LNG shipments from the country going to Europe, accounting for 14% of the bloc’s gas imports.
"We want to expand what is currently a 14% share of total LNG imports from Nigeria, we want that to go up," Baldwin was quoted as saying.

[ET] Even if you’re not yet familiar with the term ESG rating, it’s shaping your world. ESG, or environmental, social, and governance, is a three-prong set of criteria used by the investment community to score how devoted companies are to pursuing ESG goals.
#1
Money spent on ESG isn’t available to invest in profitability. Best use of ESG ratings is as an inverse measure of how well a firm will do financially and invest accordingly
#5
To the extent that I pay any attention to ESG ratings - which isn't much -- I see them as a measure of how likely it is that a Democratic administration will screw with this company's revenue stream. So a company with a "bad" environmental rating has a risk of the EPA's thumb in the pie that a company with a "good" environmental rating doesn't. One problem though, is that the ratings are inherently biased against companies that actually make stuff. Alcoa, for example, is never going to have an environmental rating as good as the spreadsheet psychopaths over at Blackrock.
