[ToloNews] Hundreds of Afghans who have worked as interpreters or in other roles as local staff for the UK government or British military will be allowed to relocate, the UK government announced.
In a statement, the government said: "Following the decision to begin the withdrawal of military forces from Afghanistan, the prime minister has agreed with the Ministry of Defence, Home Office and Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to rapidly accelerate applications through the policy."
The exact number of Afghans allowed to be relocated to the UK in this latest plan is unclear, but the government says it is expecting more than 3,000 to be resettled. This number includes both eligible local staff and their families.
Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said those that might otherwise "be at risk of reprisals" from the Taliban ...mindless ferocity in a turban... were being considered.
"With Western powers leaving Afghanistan, the threat is increasing and has increased, including assassinations by the Taliban," Wallace said.
"This is allowing people a route to the United Kingdom for safety, the people who supported the British armed forces and the British government over many, many years in Afghanistan who feel they are in danger and it's absolutely right that we stand by those people," he said.
Wallace told the BBC that "with Western powers leaving, the threat is increasing, including assassinations by the Taliban".
Most of those affected worked as interpreters for British troops and the acceleration of plans allowing them to settle in the UK comes amid fears for these workers' safety with the ongoing pullout of foreign troops, which is scheduled to end on September 11, 2021.
The report said that hundreds of interpreters have already settled in the UK in an earlier version of the plan.

The SADC summit scheduled to discuss this was postponed from April to 27 May, and the summit simply postponed the issue until a new summit on 20 June. President Filipe Nyusi's longstanding opposition to a multi-lateral force and the opposition of some countries such as Tanzania suggest the SADC force will never happen.

Britannia will make it easier for Afghans who worked with British troops to settle in the United Kingdom, amid rising fears for their safety as foreign forces leave Afghanistan, a minister has said.

More than 1,400 Afghan interpreters and their relatives have already moved to Britannia under a resettlement scheme. The government says about 3,000 more are expected to come under new rules which broaden eligibility and make it easier for people to bring their families with them.
The government’s "moral obligation" to relocate staff was also stressed by UK Home Secretary Priti Patel who said that it was time to "recognise the risks they faced in the fight against terrorism and reward their efforts".
"I’m pleased that we are meeting this fully, by providing them and their families the opportunity to build a new life in this country," she added.
At the peak of the post-2001 deployment, there were almost 10,000 British troops in Afghanistan, mostly in Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... province in the south.

Reporting on Cavusoglu’s Sunday visit to the city of Komotini in Thrace, Turkey’s official Anadolu News Agency said his delegation met with Ibrahim Serif, the chairman of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board and the elected mufti of Komotini, as well as Ahmet Mete, the elected mufti of Xanthi.
“The work of the muftis contributes greatly to the preservation and strengthening of the unity and solidarity of the Turkish minority,” Cavusoglu said in a Twitter post after the visit.
This is while Cavusoglu had previously said the aim of his visit was to prepare for a bilateral meeting between the Greek prime minister and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a NATO summit in Brussels on June 14.
