Afghanistan
Herat Clerics: Taliban’s War Has No Islamic Basis
[ToloNews] Religious scholars and influential holy mans from Afghanistan’s western provinces on Tuesday said that the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
’s narrative of establishing an Islamic political system in Afghanistan should not obstruct the grinding of the peace processor in the country.

Speaking to a gathering of scholars in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
, Mawlavi Khudadad Saleh, the head of the Herat holy manal council, rejected the Taliban’s ’unilateral’ stance about the establishment of an Islamic system in the country, suggesting that only Afghanistan’s scholars can decide about such a system.

At the event, some other speakers said that the current war in Afghanistan has no justification as the war takes the lives of innocent Moslems.

"Shia has the right, Sunni has the right, Hindu has the right to live in Afghanistan, all layers of the society should be considered in talks. We do not talk about an imposed Islam, we talk about the Islam which the Koran talks about. We have respected Ulemas in Afghanistan, only these respected holy mans can decide about it," said Mawlavi Khudadad Saleh, the head of Herat Clerical Council.

"The war is no longer justified, it has no meaning now, we must surrender to peace. The war is imposed on us by others, we all know it, the entire nation know about it, no one supports this war, even the Taliban do not want it, because this war has been imposed on the Taliban too, the government does not support it as well," said Mawlavi Khudadad Saleh, the head of Herat Clerical Council.

"We hope that the second round of the intra-Afghan talks are started on January 5 in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
. The religious scholars fully support the grinding of the peace processor, we want a system in Afghanistan that reflects all layers of society, all ethnicities, all groups and schools of thought," said Abdul Khaliq Haqqani, a holy man in Herat.

Speakers also called on the Taliban to agree to a ceasefire.

"The Afghan people want a ceasefire as soon as possible, they want the talks to give an outcome. Rejecting this credible demand is an insult to the sentiments of the people," said Abdul Saboor Rahmani, a holy man in Herat.

Addressing the gathering, Sayed Wahid Qatali, the governor of Herat, said the current scale of violence in the country, particularly in the major cities and towns, has disappointed the people about reaching to peace.

"What is going on now in our cities, we can't ignore the involvement of the Taliban in it. We want the Taliban to avoid now what they--and other terrorist groups--did over the past 20 years. Our intelligence agencies are very powerful, we know where the terror takes root, mounting military pressure will not help us to reach a solution," said Wahid Qatali, governor of Herat.

This comes as the negotiators from both sides of the Afghan peace negotiations are expected to kick start their second round of talks in Doha on January 5.

Previously, scholars from Kuwait, Indonesia and some other Islamic countries have described the war in Afghanistan as "un-Islamic."

'Taliban Is Behind Targeted Killings': Andarabi
[ToloNews] Interior Affairs Minister Massoud Andarabi on Tuesday while speaking to the Afghan senate about the security situation in the country and particularly in Kabul, said that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
is behind the "assassinations."

"The Taliban had major plans to overrun more areas in the provinces including Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
, but they were prevented, causing the group to focus on assassinations in Kabul," Andarabi said.

He believes that attacks in the country have increased in Afghanistan since the US and Taliban signed the peace agreement in February this year in Doha.

"The Taliban is seeking leverage in the peace efforts by putting pressure on the government with IED bombings in Kabul and by launching attacks in districts," he further said.

"The people who were arrested over the assassinations have confessed that a group was created by the Taliban under the name of 'Obaida' in Pashtun-infested Logar province to target babus government employees, journalists and civil society activists to raise the people’s voice against the government," according to Andarabi.

The National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) Chief Gen. Zia Saraj addressed the Senate also, saying that "over 18,200" krazed killer attacks have occurred in the last 10 months, "99% of them by the Taliban."

"The ISIS group was only responsible for one percent of the attacks," he said.

6,100 people have been arrested in the country and "3,600 of them were involved in the insurgency activities."

"70 of these arrested people was involved in murders while seven others were wanted to carry out suicide kabooms," he added.

PEACE TALKS
On Monday, the leadership committee of the High Council for National Reconciliation in a two-day session decided to form a technical group for consultations with the negotiating team of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Afghanistan during the negotiations that are expected to resume on Jan. 5.

The Afghan government has pledged that the second round of the talks will be held on January 5, 2021, in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
The two-day session was also held to determine the stance of the negotiating team in the talks and its authority in the negotiations.

The Afghan government says that ceasefire is a priority for the Afghan Republic’s negotiating team, but the Taliban has said that ceasefire will be ensured after the agreement on the details of an Islamic system.

The Afghan negotiators had a closed-door meeting with senators for several hours on Monday, according to senators.

Egypt military court sentences 168 to life over terrorism charges
They’ll have to go through all the layers of appeals plus a ruling from the Elders of Islam before the thing is finalized and they can finally start serving their sentences.
[AlAhram] The terrorist cells were charged with carrying out 63 terrorist crimes in North Sinai and planning terror attacks across Egypt

A military court sentenced on Tuesday 168 defendants to life in prison (25 years per Egyptian penal code) for forming 43 cells affiliated with the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) terrorist group and planning a number of terror attacks across the country.

The terrorist cells, which were affiliated with the ISIS branch in North Sinai known in the media as 'Sinai Province', were charged with carrying out 63 terrorist crimes in North Sinai.

The court acquitted 35 defendants in the case, which included 555 people.

The court sentenced 36 defendants to 15 years in prison, 136 to 10 years, 50 to seven years, 42 to five years, and 89 to three years.

According to investigations by the prosecution and the interior ministry, the crimes committed by the terror cells were concentrated in North Sinai.

The leaders and members of the cells were continuously communicating with IS leaders in Iraq and Syria, according to the prosecution.

Some of the defendants in the case also joined IS camps in Syria to be trained on using weapons and creating explosives, the prosecution said.

The defendants joined the camps to gain experience in guerrilla warfare and street fighting in order to translate this experience into hostile acts against the state's institutions and citizens, the prosecution said.

Police investigations reveal that the defendants staked out various institutions as well as public figures with the aim of committing terrorist acts against them.

These institutions included the interior ministry headquarters, the Police Academy in New Cairo, ships crossing the Suez Canal, and the Damietta port on the Mediterranean. They also included a church in Ezbat al-Nakhl district in Cairo, Anba Shenouda Church in Hurghada, and Paul the Apostle Church in Qalyoubia's Obour city.

Egypt legalises 62 unlicensed churches; total reaches 1,800 churches since 2017
[AlAhram] In 2017, Egypt formed a committee to legalise the status of unlicensed churches after the long-awaited law regulating the building and renovation of churches was enacted a year earlier

A cabinet committee tasked with legalising the status of unlicensed Christian places of worship approved on Tuesday the legalisation of 62 churches and service buildings that had been operating without a permit, the cabinet said in a statement.

This brings the total number of Christian places of worship and service buildings that have been granted legal status so far to 1,800, cabinet front man Nader Saad said.

In 2016, Egypt’s parliament approved a long-awaited law regulating the building and renovation of churches.

The committee to legalise the status of unlicensed churches was established in 2017 by the prime minister.

The 10-member committee comprises one Christian representative, six government officials from several ministries, representatives from the national security apparatus, the intelligence apparatus, and the administrative control body.

The Grand Turk
Russia, Turkey to develop military ties despite US sanctions
[Rudaw] Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday that Moscow and Ankara's military cooperation would not be deterred by US sanctions on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

for acquiring a Russian missile defence system.

Washington this month punished Turkey for buying Russia's S-400 air defence system, imposing rare sanctions against a NATO

"ally"
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the time told Ottoman Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu that the American sanctions were intended to prevent Russia from receiving substantial revenues from the sale.

On Tuesday, Cavusoglu visited Moscow for talks with his Russia's top diplomat Lavrov, who told news hounds that, "we have confirmed our mutual intention to develop military ties with Turkey".

He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. appreciated Turkey's determination to "continue cooperation in this area despite continuing illegitimate pressure from Washington."

Cavusoglu said the US sanctions against Turkey were "an act of aggression against our country's sovereign rights," adding that Ankara would not give in to pressure.

"We prefer to solve all issues including that of the S-400 through negotiations," Cavusoglu said in comments translated into Russian.

"After introducing the sanctions the US announced it favours dialogue. We've never been against dialogue," the Ottoman Turkish foreign minister added.

Turkey last year took delivery of the $2.5 billion system, defying warnings that such military cooperation was incompatible with NATO and would let Russia improve its targeting of US stealth planes.

seek to maintain good relations.

The two countries are jointly monitoring a Russian-mediated truce over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region after a six-week war between Armenia and Azerbaijan that claimed more than 6,000 lives.

Tensions between the two nations had risen over Nagorno-Karabakh while the fighting was ongoing, with Russia accusing Turkey of deploying Syrian fighters to combat Armenian forces in the contested region.

Earlier this month Ottoman Turkish police briefly arrested two Russian journalists in Istanbul for allegedly filming a drone production unit without permission.

Turkish Court Rules Jailing of Top Rights Defender Lawful
[AnNahar] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
's Constitutional Court on Tuesday rejected leading rights defender Osman Kavala's appeal for an immediate release, ruling that his detention for over three years without a conviction was lawful.

A respected figure in international circles, the 63-year-old's case is seen as a bellwether on the state of political freedoms under Ottoman Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's rule, which has seen many of his opponents locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
on terror-related and other charges.

Kavala has remained in prison despite being acquitted in February in connection with 2013 anti-government protests.

He was immediately re-arrested and locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
in February on fresh charges of espionage and involvement in a failed 2016 coup against Erdogan.

The next hearing is scheduled for February 5 of next year.

The Constitutional Court's general assembly ruled by an 8-7 margin that Kavala's detention did not violate his rights to liberty and security, a court front man told AFP.

The formal reasoning for the ruling is expected to be published in one to two months.

The Gay Pareeian-born businessman was a founding member of philanthropist George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
' Open Society Foundation in Turkey and headed Anadolu Kultur -- a group that promoted cross-cultural ties through the arts at the time of his arrest.

In a court appearance this month, Kavala rejected the charges, telling the presiding judge: "I have opposed military coups my entire life and have criticised the army's interference in politics."

- ERDOGAN ANGER -
Kavala would be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of trying to overthrow the constitutional order. The espionage charge carries an additional 20 years in jail.

The European Court of Human Rights first called for Kavala's "immediate release" in December 2019.

Erdogan branded Kavala the "red Soros of Turkey" a few days after he was first detained upon landing in an Istanbul airport from Gaziantep in the southeast in October 2017.

In a bid to repair Turkey's global international image in the middle of a deep economic downturn, Erdogan last month pledged to push through judicial reforms that secured broader independence of the courts.

But he also took personal aim at Kavala, saying he was responsible for the 2013 protests -- even after being cleared of involvement in court.

"We can never be with financiers of Gezi events," Erdogan said, referring to demonstrations against plans to demolish a park in the heart of Istanbul that snowballed into nationwide protests.

"We can never be with Kavalas," Erdogan said.

US academic Henri Barkey is being tried in absentia alongside Kavala in the new trial.

The accusations against Barkey stem from a conference he organised about Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
on an island off Istanbul at the time of the 2016 coup attempt.

The charge sheet alleges Barkey used the event as cover to coordinate the putsch with Kavala.

Barkey told AFP this month that the charges against him were "a travesty of the first order".

India-Pakistan
Four acquitted in Karachi airport attack case for want of evidence
[Dawn] An antiterrorism court on Tuesday exonerated four men charged with facilitating the 2014 Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
airport attack.

The four men — Asif Zaheer, Sarmad Siddiqui, Abdur Rashid Siddiqui and Nadeem alias Burger — were exonerated by the ATC-IV judge, who conducted the trial, which took five years to conclude, in the judicial complex inside the central prison.

The judge pronounced his verdict reserved after recording evidence and final arguments from both sides.

The judge noted that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations levelled against the accused persons.

Accused Siddiqui and Nadeem appeared in court on bail while Zaheer and Rashid Siddiqui were produced from prison.

The judge ordered the prison authorities to release them forthwith if their custody was not required in any other case.

Defence counsel Imtiaz Ali told Dawn that the court acquitted his clients by extending them the "benefit of doubt".

The counsel submitted during the trial that the army had arrested 11 actual accused persons, who were later punished by a military court following a trial. He contended that his clients were falsely implicated in the present case and pleaded to the court to acquit them of the frivolous charges.

According to the prosecution, a total of 98 witnesses were named in the charge sheet. However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
the prosecution produced only 39 witnesses and gave up the rest of them.

The state prosecutor submitted that on the night of June 8, 2014, around 10 gunnies carrying arms and explosives had attacked the Karachi airport, killing 27 people including security personnel and staffers. The gunnies were bumped off by security agencies in the overnight operation, the prosecutor added.

The responsibility of the attack was claimed by the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
Pakistain as a result of which the army immediately launched a major crackdown called Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
against the terrorist outfit in North Wazoo, which was its stronghold.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested the four accused for allegedly providing logistics, weapons and financial support to the attackers. Another suspect, Master Essa, was released from the case in the initial stage.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the gondola was dangling by a single thread of rope.

Jack! Cynthia cried. I just realized I'm afraid of heights! I don't even like high heels!...

the court issued perpetual warrants of arrest against six absconding suspects, including former TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid, Malik Mumtaz Awan, Asim Sharif, Akhtar alias Plumber, Iqbal alias Thekedar and Abdullah Baloch.

A case was registered under Sections 302 (murder), 324 (attempted murder), 353 (deterring public servant from duty with criminal force), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage to amount of one hundred rupees or (in case of agricultural produce) ten rupees), 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house, etc), 109 (abetment) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) and Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosives Substances Act read with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Airport cop shoppe.

UNICEF ignores PA recruitment of kids to violence
[Jpost] A UNICEF report addressing the mistreatment of Paleostinian children heavily criticized Israel and somewhat criticized Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,, but ignored evidence against the Paleostinian Authority.

The report issued this past weekend covering the year 2019, did not address evidence from a February report by an NGO claiming that the PA uses school textbooks, television broadcasts, active recruitment and payment to bandidos turbans after-the-crime serves to systematically incite and weaponize its child population into soldiers.

While other Israeli groups have also worked on this issue, Paleostinian Media Watch’s (PMW) February 2019 and February 2020 reports are unique in tracing the PA’s recruitment step-by-step to explain why a substantial volume of Paleostinian minors end up arrested by Israel.

Iran allocates $150,000 for families of victims of Ukraine plane crash
an insult. "Really, it's all we have. We found that much in spare change in the couch under our rugs. Joe will send us more"
[JPost] Iran's cabinet on Wednesday allocated $150,000 for the families of each of the 176 victims of a Ukrainian plane shot down in Iranian airspace in January, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Describing Iran's handling of the situation as "unacceptable," Ukraine said the amount of compensation should be negotiated and called for those responsible to be brought to justice.

An Iranian government statement said: "The cabinet approved the provision of $150,000 or the equivalent in euros as soon as possible to the families and survivors of each of the victims of the Ukrainian plan crash," IRNA reported .

'But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.'

Not long ago I heard an asinine dialogue between two 'christian' preachers that by 'ye might as well bear with him' Paul meant you mustn't be a bigot and accommodate that idea of Jesus too. This is where modern christianity is, sadly.

#4  They believe Jesus is a prophet and He is. he's more than that, but, they do believe that.

They also believe Jesus is the Messiah.

Jews believe Jesus to be a fraud and a megalomaniac and those of us who worship Him to be acting in sacrilege.

They believe the eyewitnesses of the death and resurrection to be liars.

You guys got any nasty stuff to say about Jews?

I don't. Nor about Muslims.

To each his own. Live and let live.

#5  Issa (Jesus) gets a lot of favorable sentences in the Koran.

A group of underground Christian missionaries use these sentences in their work all over the world. They say part 1 of their program is to emphasize the Jesus verses. Part 2 is to point out the problems with some of the doings of Mohammad. They build from there.

FBI Found Port Blast Caused by 500 Tons of Fertilizer, Says Diab
[AnNahar] Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
's outgoing premier Hassan Diab said Tuesday that an FBI investigation into the August 4 explosion at the Beirut port found it was caused by 500 tons of ammonium nitrate.

The caretaker prime minister, who resigned in the wake of the blast that killed more than 200 people, had previously said that more than 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate fertilizer had been stored haphazardly at a port warehouse for years.

But a report by the U.S. domestic intelligence agency, which aided Lebanon in the probe, said that less than a quarter of that amount had went kaboom!, Diab told news hounds during a briefing.

"The FBI report revealed that the amount that went kaboom! is only 500 tons," he said. "Where did the (other) 2,200 tons go?" he asked.

Nearly five months after the blast, little light has been shed on the circumstances that led to Lebanon's worst peacetime disaster, which is widely blamed on decades of negligence and corruption by the country's ruling elite.

The slow pace of the investigation has sparked outrage at home and fueled distrust among international donors, whose support is much needed if Lebanon is to stand a chance of surviving its deepest economic crisis in decades.

Lead investigative judge Fadi Sawwan this month charged Diab and three former ministers over the earth-shattering kaboom in the first set of indictments against politicians.

He charged them with "negligence and causing death to hundreds and injuries to thousands more" in the first such official indictment against a prime minister in office in Lebanese history.

The blast probe has since been suspended after two of the charged ministers called on Sawwan to be replaced. Lebanon's top Court of Cassation must rule on their request before investigations proceed.

The investigation had led to the arrest of at least 25 suspects, including the chief of the port and its customs director, but not a single politician.

#1  I could see this as a "possibility" also.
Google the April 16, 1947,
Port of Texas City, Texas,
Galveston Bay.
An start comparing Pictures... many will see a lot of similarities.

With that said. The detonation process being used to explain the Beirut Port explosion leaves some EOD logic gaps.

#2  To get what amounts to a version of a high explosive out of a low explosive, you need confinement. See the Boston bombings. They used black powder in kitchen pressure cookers.
When an unconfined low-order explosive is lit, you get a "whoosh". A fiery, smoking "whoosh". So when you get a defective firework and it fizzles...don't stomp on it or you'll confine it and blow a hole in your foot.
It's a good possibility that some of the harbor stash was confined, possibly by having tons more sitting on top of it. If that went up as an explosive, the outer layers would have "whooshed" as in flashed to fire--damaging as hell--but without an explosive's overpressure (shockwave).
Back a few years, I saw a couple of speculations that McVeigh could have done more damage in OKC if he'd figured out how to get the total energy in his load to explode. Possibly that's the issue here.
