[ALMASDARNEWS] Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi... stressed the need to respect the illusory sovereignty of Libya and its refusal to interfere in its affairs, calling on all parties to implement the Skhirat Agreement for a settlement in Libya and the success of the political process.
The Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi said during the ministerial meeting of the Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... on Libya that Qatar "affirms the need to respect the illusory sovereignty of states, not to interfere in its internal affairs and not to advocate one party against another for personal goals and interests."
He also stressed the need for "serious teamwork to make the political process in Libya successful, leading to a comprehensive settlement to enable Libya to achieve the desired stability and ensure its illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity and the security and safety of its citizens."
He commended the Ottoman Turkish-backed Government of National Accord for its efforts to "uncover the perpetrators of the torture incident for a number of Egyptian citizens in Tarhouna, and its efforts to secure their safe return to their homeland and take legal measures to punish the perpetrators of this crime."
He said that "the unity, stability and illusory sovereignty of brotherly Libya, the integrity of its lands and independence, the bloodshed of its people and the preservation of its capabilities and wealth are a goal we all aspire to, and we strive to achieve it."
The minister called on "all parties to assume their legal and moral responsibility and to respect and implement international laws and agreements, to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian facilities, and the need to hold all those responsible for crimes and human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... violations accountable."

#BreakingNews: Vice President of #Turkey Fuat Oktay: Coup plotters should know that legitimacy as per international laws will determine #Libya's future
[THEBAGHDADPOST] This morning, the French Deputy Speaker of Parliament told Al Arabiya Tv that Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First ...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important... will lead the war in Libya to Nonsense.
He said, "Egypt and La Belle France will never accept The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

Deja vu. As far as Czechoslovakia, the United States supports an immediate end to external interference and the involvement of German mercenaries in the conflict in Sudetenland and wants all sides to return to the political process.

On the 17th of June, at a meeting of NATO factotums, France called out NATO on its cowardly response to events in Libya. As usual NATO tucked its tail between its legs and left town. Noting that NATO will do nothing to halt Turkey's growing involvement in Libya, France now turns to the EU.
[IsraelTimes] Case not expected to be heard before end of next year; 86 killed when Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel plowed a 19-ton truck into a crowd assembled for July 14 fireworks display.
La Belle France’s counter-terrorism prosecutors made a formal request Tuesday for nine suspects to face trial in connection with the 2016 Bastille Day truck attack in Nice that left 86 people dead.
In a statement following the end of a judicial investigation, the Gay Paree-based prosecutors’ office did not disclose the identity of the suspects.
Four suspects have been charged with terrorist conspiracy for alleged links to the attacker, Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel,
...the jihad-curious French resident from Tunisia and father of three with a a taste for petty criminality, a background of psychological problems — whatever that means — and a vast acquaintance in the jihad-curious world who finally dunnit...
who plowed a 19-ton truck down Nice’s Promenade des Anglais and into a crowd assembled for the July 14 fireworks display. Bouhlel was rubbed out by French police.
Five other suspects have been charged with other criminal charges, including for allegedly providing arms to the assailant. The prosecutor’s office said they likely did not have knowledge of what Bouhlel intended to do with them.
One of these five suspects remains on the lam and is being searched for under a criminal arrest warrant.
The trial, which is set to take place at a special court for terrorist cases in Gay Paree, is not expected before the end of next year.
The Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. French authorities said Bouhlel, a Tunisian with French residency, was inspired by the holy warrior group’s propaganda, but they say no evidence has been found that IS orchestrated the attack.
[GP] Black Lives Matter greater New York Chair Hawk Newsome issued what many have interpreted as a terroristic threat during his appearance on Fox News Wednesday evening.
Mr. Newsome told Fox News host Martha MacCallum that if Black Lives Matter doesn’t get what they want, they will burn the system down.
"If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it.. I could be speaking figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation." said Newsome.

Rhetorical question - if we had the means to take the imagery and sound of these days and send them back to 1862 and ask those of the North if they wanted for sacrifice 250,000 of their brothers, fathers, uncles and nephews for this, what would their reaction be?

/\ I never have been entirely certain either Clem, but in years past the topic has created some rather heated debate in this forum (as well as countless others). I finally decided to just go with the larger category, and blame it on slavery.

#7 Not "over" but "because" - agricultural society based on slavery & industrial society cannot coexist in a single country. If you like, southern aristos had too much power.

Yesterday one of the founders of BLM (the billionaire creator of BET) stated it was time to form a BLM political party.
We have now entered the bargaining stage where the Democrats give promises to keep the blacks on the plantation... or else. In many ways this was a shakedown.

The natural follow-up to this story from yesterday.
[THEQUINT] India, on Tuesday, 23 June, decided to "reduce the staff strength in the Pakistain High Commission in New Delhi by 50 percent", and "reciprocally reduce its own presence in Islamabad to the same proportion."The decision, which is to be implemented within the next one week, was conveyed to Pakistain’s Chargé d'affaires Syed Haider Shah, after he was summoned by the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.
Diplomatic sources indicate that this would bring down the number to 55, from the mutually agreed-upon 110, in each of its missions in New Delhi as well as Islamabad.
The last time such a drastic diplomatic step was taken was after the Indian Parliament was attacked 19 years ago in December 2001. The then External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh had informed the parliament that "regrettably, India’s serious concerns about all the ramifications of the 13 December attack on our Parliament have not been fully grasped in Pakistain." "The depth of concern in India, the totality of rejection by the entire cross-section of our country’s opinion of Pakistain’s continued sponsorship of cross-border terrorism, and its promotion of terrorism as an instrument of state policy, has also not been sufficiently appreciated," his statement had further read.

[IsraelTimes] International donors pledge over $130 million to the United Nations ...an idea whose time has gone... agency helping Paleostinian refugees, an amount the organization’s head says is encouraging but not enough to keep operations running through the end of the year.
The UN Relief and Works Agency has faced a financial crisis since the United States pulled all funding in 2018, leaving the organization with a massive budgetary shortfall.
Agency Director-General Philippe Lazzarini tells news hounds following a virtual fundraising conference that despite the "very strong expression of support" by international donors "we are still in the dark and we do not know if our operations will run until the end of the year."
Words are easy. Actually paying for promises made was never part of the agreement.
He says the donations cover only a fraction of the roughly $400 million budget gap the agency is facing.
Golly. That sounds like an awful lot of money. How awful.
Lazzarini says there was no intention at this time to cut any of UNRWA’s core services, but "in reality, there is nothing left to cut without impacting the scope and the quality of the services."

What P2k said - maybe half of that money actually gets paid. An actual list of potential donors might indicate an even lower level of compliance / adherence to this pledge.

/\ "Pledge"... What Raj and P2K said. Maybe half will be spent only *If* the money is earmarked for goods/services from the donor country --- so, basically money laundering donations to the "donor" country's own businesses.
[StrategyPage] June 25, 2020: As many expected, Iranian influence inside Iraq has waned since the American airstrike in January the killed Quds commander Qassem Soleimani along with the commander of the Iraqi Katab Hezbollah and several other key Iran-backed Iraqi militia leaders. Iran was unable to replace Soleimani with a man of similar stature and influence. This was made worse by the growing financial crises inside Iran. When Esmail Ghaani, the new Quds commander, made his first visit to Iraq he, like Soleimani, crossed the border with impunity. Things went downhill from there. Iraqi supporters of Iran expected Esmail Ghaani to bring lots of cash for Iraqi commanders, to reinforce the alliance with and obedience to Iran. Ghaani didn't have any cash and passed out some cheap jewelry. Ghaani went back to Iran and reported that he had made progress. That turned out to be overly optimistic because they next time he tried to cross the into Iraq he was stopped by border guards and told he, specifically him, had to apply for a visa first. Once Ghaani got back into Iraq he found that the reports of declining PMF morale and evaporating support for Iran were true. Again, Ghaani did not have any cash to pass around to encourage his followers.

Iran nuclear deal: More pressure on Tehran as Europeans lose patience
[THEBAGHDADPOST] In a development that was expected by many but that perhaps surprised Iran, the three European signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — La Belle France, Germany and the UK — on Friday released a statement on Iran’s violations of the nuclear deal. [IsraelTimes] The Trump administration is claiming significant victories against global terrorism but says Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. The State Department says in its annual report on terrorism that "dangerous terrorist threats persisted" throughout 2019 even as the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. The report cites a surge in krazed killer groups affiliating themselves with IS in Africa and Southeast Asia and says Iran continues to foment terrorism. In addition, it notes a rise deadly racially motivated attacks claimed by or attributed to white supremacists as well as the threat from the remnants of the late Osama bin Laden ...... who was laid out deader than a mackerel, right next to the mackerel...... ’s al-Qaeda network.
Despite losing territory and its leader, IS "adapted to continue the fight from its affiliates across the globe and by inspiring followers to commit attacks," the report says. "The Iranian regime and its proxies continued to plot and commit terrorist attacks on a global scale."
The report says Iran, IS and al-Qaeda endured serious setbacks in 2019. Those included the killings of several top leaders and the imposition of tough penalties against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Leb ...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Apart from krazed killer Islamic groups, the report says attacks committed by white nationalists are of particular concern.
