[SPUTNIKNEWS] A peculiar incident recently occurred in the Chilean city of Santiago where a thief's attempts to rob a lady were thwarted thanks to the valiant efforts of one Michelle Carvalho, whom the Daily Star describes as a "curvy lingerie and swimwear model from Brazil".
A video posted on Michelle's Instagram page, which appears to be CCTV footage, show the two ladies, whom the newspaper identified as the model and her flatmate Alicia Vial, approach a building entrance while pushing a shopping cart when a man dressed in a pink t-shirt approaches them and apparently offers to help with the cart.
The man, however, quickly reveals his true colors as he tries to snatch Alicia's handbag, only for Michelle to rush him with a broom, prompting the miscreant to flee.
"Everything happened in 10 seconds, I did not have time to think about anything, I did not even drop the box of glasses I had in my other hand. I just hit him with the broomstick", the model said as quoted by the newspaper, also complaining that several eyewitnesses who were present at the scene did not seem inclined to help her and her friend during the altercation.

[USA Today] It was the hottest ticket in the state of Indiana for high school basketball. Four great teams. An electric atmosphere was guaranteed for the night of March 6 at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis, where 2,800 fans would pack the gym for the sectional semifinals.
But early on that Friday afternoon, the calls started coming in to Lawrence Central.
It was revealed by state officials at 11 a.m. that the first person in Indiana had tested positive for coronavirus at Community Health North, four miles from the school.
"We started getting calls," Lawrence Central athletic director Ryan Banas said, "wondering if we were still going to play."
The games were played that night — and the following night — just like they were in 63 other venues around the state. Fans at Lawrence Central that week for Sectional 10 were treated to a basketball bonanza of incredible games and individual performances.
But on that night of March 6, there were five people in the gym who later died after testing positive for coronavirus. There’s no way to know if they contracted it at Lawrence Central. But families are left to mourn.
[SPUTNIKNEWS] A number of American churches have claimed to have the answers to COVID-19 in recent weeks. In one incident, televangelist Kenneth Copeland claimed to have summoned "the wind of god" to destroy the virus.
A federal judge in Florida has ordered a church to stop selling a bleach-based product that it claims helps to cure COVID-19.
The Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, run by a former intercontinental missile engineer, is accused of falsely marketing what it describes as a "Miracle Mineral Solution" (MMS) to COVID-19.
According to the US courts, the church’s product contains chlorine dioxide, which is a chemical compound the the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned will turn into a toxic bleach when mixed with other substances, potentially proving deadly if consumed.
Prosecutors in the US Attorney’s Office in South Florida filed an injunction against the church, arguing that its claim puts "unsuspecting American consumers at risk by offering them unproven products."
According to the prosecutors, the Church’s so-called solution is "unsupported by any well-controlled clinical studies or other credible scientific substantiation."
Furthermore, the church does not only claim that MMS can help to combat Coronavirus. The group have long claimed that it can be used to deal with diseases like Alzheimers, autism, brain cancer, HIV/Aids and multiple sclerosis. Yet, in tune with the eruption of the Coronavirus pandemic, the group began marketing it as a cure for the disease in March.
The FDA sent a letter earlier in April to Genesis II Church over its questionable claims about the product.
The church’s Archbishop, Jordan Grenon, reportedly responded with his own letter, saying that, "we can say cure, heal and treat as a Free Church. Don’t need you [sic] approval or authorisation for a Church Sacrament... There will be NO corrective actions on our part ... You have no authority over us! ... Never going to happen."

Should have just sold it as a vitamin supplement or something. They don't do much about those.
I get the New York density problem, since on a normal day it's (or it was) impossible to cross Fifth Avenue without literally bumping shoulders with people from every country on earth. But here we've got about 200,000 Navajos living on about 27,000 square miles of reservation. It's one of America's least dense populations. Seriously tough SOB's, too.
[SLTRIB] Since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed on the Navajo Nation in mid-March, the near-daily updates released by the tribal government have been alarming.
The Navajo Epidemiology Center announced 1,127 confirmed cases of the disease and 44 deaths as of Saturday, and Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez has warned the peak may still be weeks away — a startling trend for a Native American nation that has an on-reservation population of about 174,000.
If the Navajo Nation were a U.S. state, it would rank behind only New York and New Jersey for per-capita confirmed cases.

Navajo have been 'plagued' by obesity and diabetes for generations. When long genetic lines of sucking every nutrient out of limited food supplies in the desert meets modern plentiful food distribution something has got to give, usually the waistline.

It would be extremely helpful if our fearless data-pickers would collect detailed demographic data the way advertising and marketing data companies do.
Specifically, disaggregate the COVID stats not only by age but also by:
1. Ethnicity
2. Religion / religious practices
3. Household size and structure incl. # of generations under one roof
Pretty sure the above would explain more than half the variance in outcomes.
If so, then a policy of targeted, specific, localized measures for households meeting these extremely high-risk criteria would make much more sense than a draconian mass lockdown.

This guy, not part of the camp circle, hardly know him, but he may know. He said, New Yorkers broke quarantine and went to that area where they enjoyed games of chance, which is how Wuhan Flu made it into the Nation.
Is that area a popular winter home locale?
I don't know if guy thinks this, heard this, knows this, or just wants it to be true.
There is precedence of New Yorkers breaking quarantine and traveling to other locations, famously to Florida.
And the Nation, is it well maintained or does it suffer the problems most other reservations do, except with more people?

[France24] On the first anniversary Wednesday of the devastating blaze that ripped through Notre-Dame Cathedral, there are no builders on site and the scientists involved are working from home. FRANCE 24 investigates how Covid-19 is affecting the reconstruction of the 850-year-old monument.
The construction site engulfing Paris’s Notre-Dame Cathedral stands silent, all restoration and rubble-clearing stopped in its tracks on the first anniversary of the blaze.
Before France’s Covid-19 lockdown, around 100 workers were present at the site: engineers, architects, archaeologists and scientists. But since March 16 only a security team guards the entrance while a weekly visit by the public body overseeing the restoration ensures that everything is in order.
At 8pm on Wednesday evening the cathedral's great bell rang out across the capital in support of the care workers on the Covid-19 frontline, and to pay tribute to the Gothic landmark's resilience.
[JewishVoice] According to Professor Luc Montagnier, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 for “discovering” HIV as the cause of the AIDS epidemic together with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, the SARS-CoV-2 responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic is a virus that was manipulated and accidentally released from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, in the last quarter of 2019. According to Professor Montagnier, this laboratory, known for its work on coronaviruses, tried to use one of these viruses as a vector for HIV in the search for an AIDS vaccine, Gilmore Health reported after Montagnier was interviewed on a medical podcast.
Dr Luc Montagnier discovered the HIV virus back in 1983.
“With my colleague, bio-mathematician Jean-Claude Perez, we carefully analyzed the description of the genome of this RNA virus,” explains Luc Montagnier, interviewed by Dr Jean-François Lemoine for the daily podcast at Pourquoi Docteur, adding that others have already explored this avenue: Indian researchers have already tried to publish the results of the analyses that showed that this coronavirus genome contained sequences of another virus, … the HIV virus (AIDS virus), but they were forced to withdraw their findings as the pressure from the mainstream was too great.
In a challenging question Dr Jean-François Lemoine inferred that the coronavirus under investigation may have come from a patient who is otherwise infected with HIV. No, “says Luc Montagnier,” in order to insert an HIV sequence into this genome, molecular tools are needed, and that can only be done in a laboratory.
The good news is : according to Montagnier “Nature does not accept any molecular tinkering, it will eliminate these unnatural changes and even if nothing is done, things will get better, but unfortunately after many deaths.”

There is research that shows the COVID 19 was originally worked on in North Carolina. In 2015 we banned this type of research and it was moved, funded by Fose, to Hunan. It is reported that the virus has parts of HIV and others built into it. Not sure how true this is.

[Article is "long" but well laid out.]
[RemnantNewspaper] On Easter Sunday evening, we reached a turning point in the monumental, wholly unprecedented, nation-wrecking fiasco that is Coronagate: President Trump retweeted a post with the hashtag #FireFauci. Both the original tweet and Trump’s telling retweet were prompted by Anthony Fauci’s latest appearance on Fake News CNN. On Easter Sunday, no less, Fauci, who has been undermining Trump since the day this fiasco began, implied in response to loaded questions by the insufferable Jake Tapper that Trump could have saved lives had he announced "social distancing guidelines" that Fauci supposedly recommended to him as early as the third week of February.
Fauci made no such recommendation in February, but was rather saying the exactly opposite that month, as even the left-wing Politico shows in an article entitled Virus 'Experts' Early Statements Belie 'Prescient' Portrayal. Thus, on Easter Sunday Fauci cooperated with Tapper in disseminating a demonstrable lie to the nation.
THE EARLY ADVICE FAUCI IS HIDING
On January 21, Fauci was asked the following question to which he gave the following answer in a video published by Newsmax:
Q. What are you thinking in terms of this virus spreading in the United States?
FAUCI: Well those people are probably at a very low risk.... Well, obviously you need to take it seriously and do the kinds of things that the CDC and the Department of Homeland Security are doing. But this is not a major threat to the people in the United States. And this is not something that the citizens of the United States right now should be worried about.
On February 18, in a video published by USA Today, Fauci said the following:
FAUCI: No, I don’t think people should be frightened. The risk right now, today, currently, is really relatively low for the American public. But... this could evolve [] into a global pandemic....
So right now, don’t worry about it, be more concerned about influenza, which is going into a second peak for the season, than corona virus.... People wearing masks now is just not relevant. You don’t need to be walking around with a mask right now....
The accompanying text of the February piece in Today quotes Fauci as saying that the danger from the Wuhan virus is "just miniscule" whereas: "We have more kids dying of flu this year at this time than in the last decade or more. The threat is (we have) a pretty bad influenza season, particularly dangerous for our children."
On Saturday, February 29, Fauci stated as follows on the Today Show:
No, right now, at this moment, there is no need to change anything that you’re doing on a day-by-day basis. Right now, the risk is still low, but this could change. I’ve said that many times...You gotta watch out, because although the risk is low now—you don’t need to change anything you’re doing—when you start to see community spread, this could change....
So, on February 29, Fauci was still giving assurances on national television that there was no need for Americans to change anything regarding their daily activities. In fact, that was the very day the press reported the first death attributed to purported "community spread" of Wuhan virus in the United States.
On March 9, Fauci told John Roberts of Fox News that "If you are a healthy young person, there is no reason if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship" whereas "if you have…an individual who has an underlying condition, particularly an elderly person who has an underlying condition, I would recommend strongly that they do not go on a cruise ship."
To sum up, it is undeniable that during the months of January and February of 2020, Fauci minimized the threat of the Wuhan virus. There is not even the glimmer of a suggestion that there be a national lockdown of all Americans to "save lives." [More on Fauci's treachery, Bill Gates, and Scarf Lady in the article]

Weasel.
What liars and poltroons we're saddled with...
In a way I'm glad that their mendacity and spinelessness are being laid bare by this episode.
This nation desperately needs a new political class -- and an entirely new, independent, competent, at least somewhat honest media class to keep watch on the political class.

And supposed conservatives continue their slide to becoming leftists. People don't like what Fauci's said (or they imagine he said), so he must be a demon, and must be destroyed.
His "changing statements" may have something to do with getting more information, rather than incompetence or some nefarious plot. But we can't allow that, because we can't accept mere humanity from officials; we demand they must be gods. So conservatives become the left.

My beef with Fauci is he forgets he's a Health Advisor, not the POTUS, and his input and info will guide TRUMP'S decision, not the other way around.
Trump has to take the economy, national security, and other factors into account as well. Fauci has the luxury of being able to neglect those

His "changing statements" may have something to do with getting more information
Did anyone hear any 'expert' say "We don't have enough validated information yet to give solid advice or make a valid estimate of what's to come"? Bueller?
Did we have any honesty as in "Here, let me pull this out of my a$$"? Bueller?

Got it, P2K, you need your hand held to know that decisions have to be made with incomplete information, and that later information can make it appear you made the wrong decision.

Turkey's coronavirus cases overtake Iran, highest in Middle East
[Jpost] Turkey's confirmed coronavirus cases have risen to 82,329, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Saturday, overtaking neighboring Iran for the first time to register the highest total in the Middle East.
An increase of 3,783 cases in the last 24 hours also pushed Turkey's confirmed tally within a few hundred of China, where the novel coronavirus first emerged.
Koca said 121 more people have died, taking the death toll to 1,890. A total of 10,453 people have recovered from coronavirus so far, and the number of tests carried out over the past 24 hours came to 40,520, the minister said.
The Interior Ministry also said it was extending restrictions on travel between 31 cities for a further 15 days starting at midnight on Saturday.
'Heartbreaking' Report Shows Virus Ravaging NY Nursing Homes
[Newsmax] New York, by far the nation’s leader in coronavirus nursing home deaths, released details Friday on outbreaks in individual facilities after weeks of refusing, revealing one home in Brooklyn where 55 people died and four others with at least 40 deaths.
The state’s accounting of multiple deaths at 68 nursing homes was based on a survey and is substantially incomplete. It accounted for less than half of the 2,477 nursing home deaths that have been reported in the state. It also didn't include people who got sick in nursing homes, but then died at hospitals.
But it was the first time the state provided any information about homes that, according to an Associated Press tally, account for nearly 40% of the nation’s 6,461 deaths in such facilities.
Japan has 10,000 coronavirus cases days after declaring state of emergency
[NYPost] Japan officially recorded 10,000 cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, as the deadly pandemic continues to sweep across the globe. The news was confirmed by state broadcaster NHK and comes just hours after a full state of emergency was declared for the nation at large, Reuters reported.
Only around 200 deaths have so far been reported, but Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is urging residents to stay home amid fears that rural health systems could fail as cases spiked.
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Syrian coast witnessed two earthquakes, and their intensity was described as light in the past few hours, according to a new report.
The first occurred just after midnight and the second at 5 A.M. (local time), the report said.
Activists reported news of a slight earthquake off the Syrian coast, with a magnitude of 2.7 at 12:45 A.M.; it had a depth of 8 km, 51 km northwest of Latakia, followed by another slight tremor later.
The Syrian province of Lattakia and other areas around the Syrian coast recently witnessed more than ten consecutive earthquakes in 24 hours, as seismic activity continues throughout the eastern Mediterranean.

[DHAKATRIBUNE] Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday detained a man for attempting to rape a six-year-old child in Gopalpur upazila of Tangail. He actually looks like the kinda guy who'd try to pork a six-year-old.

The girl’s father filed a case with Gopalpur police station following the incident on Friday. According to the case statement, the child was playing near her neighbour Bablu’s house on Friday afternoon, when he lured her into his home with food "Want some candy, little girl?"
and tried to rape her there. "I'll let you see mine if you let me see yours!"
"I don't wanna see yours!"
Hearing her screams, "[SHRIEK! SHRIEK!]"
locals rushed to spot and rescued the child, "There, there. little girl! My, but you're cute!"
"Back off! I don't wanna see yours neither!"
while Bablu managed to flee the scene. "Curly-toed slippers, don't fail me now!"
RAB 12 CPC 3 Company Commander Maj Abu Nayeem Talat said the complaint was recorded as a case and the suspect will be sent to court through the police station. Seems he didn't get far from the scene. You ever tried to run in a dress?

Police chief Chris Tang says operation has nothing to do with recent remarks by the Beijing authorities in the city
Hong Kong police rounded up at least 15 veterans and supporters of the opposition camp in a swoop on Saturday that netted, among others, media tycoon Jimmy Lai Chee-ying and prominent barrister Martin Lee Chu-ming for their roles in unlawful protests late last year.
Pan-democrat legislators said the arrests, which came after recent accusations by three Beijing authorities that the camp had been blocking and disrupting legislative proceedings, were meant to silence dissent.
However, police chief Chris Tang Ping-keung said the operation had nothing to do with the remarks by the Beijing authorities and that it had taken time to collect evidence.
According to political analysts, the arrests showed authorities were hardening their stance against the pro-democracy camp, but pro-Beijing figures countered that the police were only doing their job and were not acting politically.

[RedState] This past week, Massachusetts General Hospital researchers took to the streets of Chelsea for a Wuhan flu experiment: They asked passersby to take a blood test which identifies coronavirus antibodies.
The (limited) study found that one-third of participants tested positive.
Of 200 who had their fingers pricked on April 17th and 18th, 64 folks’ immune systems contained the antibodies — which means they’d contracted the virus.
As reported by The Boston Globe, “The 200 participants generally appeared healthy, but about half told the doctors they had had at least one symptom of COVID-19 in the past four weeks.”
Of course, the test results say nothing of numbers nationally. Experts were already aware that Chelsea had the state’s highest rate of confirmed cases.
Minimally, 39 Chelsea residents have died from the virus, and as of Tuesday, there’d been 712 confirmed cases.
That’s about 1,900 contractions per 100,000 people — nearly 2%.
To be clear, the test in Bellingham Square excluded any who’d previously tested positive via the conventional nasal swab test.

[LI] "the government has mandated that at least half — $4,327,874 — be reserved for emergency financial aid grants to students"
Harvard University will receive nearly $9 million in aid from the federal government through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Department of Education announced last week.
The CARES Act ‐ the largest economic stimulus package in American history ‐ was signed into law on March 27. It allocates nearly $14 billion to support higher education institutions during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Of the $8,655,748 Harvard is slated to receive, the government has mandated that at least half ‐ $4,327,874 ‐ be reserved for emergency financial aid grants to students.
The Department of Education will distribute the first $6.28 billion to colleges and universities to cover expenses such as course materials, technology, food, and housing students have incurred "related to disruptions in their education due to the COVID-19 outbreak," according to a April 9 press release.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
