[PJ] According to an analysis from The New York Times, 81,321 Americans have been infected with the coronavirus. This, they say, "is more cases than China, Italy or any other country has seen." Now, I don't think anyone really believes that China's confirmed coronavirus cases simply topped out in the 80,000 range, but the World Health Organization and other groups seem to be accepting their numbers as gospel, anyway.
Just days earlier, the New York Times acknowledged that propaganda from the Chinese government has been "reshaping the coronavirus narrative" (by censoring negative information, hyping up China as the leader in the fight against the virus, and questioning the true origins of the virus) yet this latest article seems to be doing the work of China's propaganda machine, by claiming that despite a "deeply flawed early response to the outbreak" China's "autocratic government acted with ferocious intensity after the belated start." While China was allegedly acting "with ferocious intensity," the United States, they said, "remained preoccupied with business as usual. Impeachment. Harvey Weinstein. Brexit and the Oscars." Sounds like Tom Freidman has an erection

Great cartoon, Darth. But I don't see CBS on it. IIRC, Nora Roberts made the same claim last night about the US now having more cases than China, taking at face value Chinese numbers which are dubious at best. None of them have the least little bit of credibility.

No mention of when the Chinese closed down access to city of Wuhan and a neighboring city. A total of 15 million quarantined. Neither was a mention of Xi announcing the security of state labs was paramount. So, a selective narrative.
I believe both should be mentioned in the timeline.
A no-holds-barred concise summary of pure evil by the Chicoms.
[Evie Blog] It’s mind-boggling for people like us, the citizens in the free world, to imagine a government so capable of intentional evil. And yet, that is exactly how the Chinese Communist government of China operates. It’s an authoritarian regime that has historically caused the death of countless millions. Once you understand that, you will understand why we are dealing with this unprecedented global health crisis of the Wuhan corona virus pandemic today.
Recently, there have been news reports about how patient zero of the Wuhan corona virus was traced back to as early as November 17. By December, Chinese scientists were already aware of the existence of the deadly virus and alerted Beijing about it. What was the Chinese government’s response? They received a gag order from China’s National Health Commission, with instructions to destroy the samples. Basically, the first critical month was spent covering up the crisis instead of taking preventive measures to stop the outbreak from worsening.
Commie symps to max their personal profits
[Last Refuge] You knew it was going to happen... The U.S. Chamber of Commerce (President Tom Donohue) begins having apoplectic fits at the thought of even stronger Trump administration policies that might undercut their Chinese manufacturing investments.
The U.S. CoC is the biggest stakeholder of U.S. multinational companies doing business in China. The Trump administration has been warning them for years to put America First in their business plans; and now with the Chinese Pandemic showing just how dangerous it is for critical manufacturing to be made in the U.S.A, chamber President Tom Donohue is pleading to keep the U.S. dependent on China.
Keep in mind, this is the EXACT SAME group who said the steel and aluminum tariffs were going to cause massive inflation driving up the price of all consumer goods and cars by thousands of dollars… It never happened; because the CoC are manipulative liars. hit the link for more

As most here are aware, it is considerably more than simply "doing business." Our government and big business have surrendered a very large portion of our industrial base to the Chinese and slave labor dividends.
Economic betrayal of the American working man and small business! Pure and simple.
#13
Look at the bright side, Tommy - you and your constituents will now greatly benefit from a unique tax break called asset impairment.
Rob - Ted Baxter's brother a) first joined the CoC in 1976 (when I was in freakin' sixth grade!) and has been president since 1997, or close to a quarter century. Non-profits have been veddy veddy good to him.
#15
/\ Exactly! Another aspect: If you buy an American made Estwing hammer, it lasts for a lifetime.
'Lasting for a life time' does not facilitate a 'throw away' economy. Buying cheaply made 'box store' throw-away Chinese nail guns at five times the cost of the Estwing hammer is the goal.
#20
Fun fact - I have two Estwings. I found one around 1994 on a bike ride in Norwood. I put it in one of the rear pockets of my riding jersey where food and water bottles usually go. I rode 18 miles with that sucker on my back and I made it back without dropping or fumbling it once. I could use a regrip pretty badly but this one's an heirloom with me.

"I refuse to (knowingly) buy a Chinese made nail gun, compressor, or drill."
Then don't go to Harbor Freight.

Also, the COC has been actively resisting the 'Closed Borders' with regards to Mexico/Latin America.
Some stuff the COC does well, but not all.

Bring the manufacturing back to the U.S. And, we're still buying from China from what I understand; it hasn't stopped. By all means, manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, military equipment and anything else related to national security should be brought back here ASAP.
#26
Only a fool would allow greed to overcome common sense and it was never a good idea to let the Chinese take over the production of steel, computers and pharmaceuticals. We know they use the profits to challenge us and our allies militarily. We know that they remain hostile and aggressive. We know that they abuse the human rights of their people and they'd do the same to us if they ever got the chance. They spy on us, hack our computers, steal our intellectual property and now we see clearly how they spread contagion across the earth. We don't know if it was an accident or if they did on purpose but we know it wasn't the first time and it won't be the last. What other nation does that on such a regular basis? The profits are not worth it.
There was a time when I believed that institutions like the Chamber of Commerce must be pillars of American virtue. I hate it that I was so naive.
But the question must be asked: Is it greed or is the outsourcing of manufacturing to China a communist plot to ruin our country, to bring us to our knees? Maybe I'm being paranoid. But just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me. Certainly Mr. Donohue's patriotism as well as his common sense must be questioned.

Completely delusional. Know nothing about product complexity, know nothing about commerce.
And finally you don't want to make what Chinese do and have their industrial productivity.
Chinese or others. Chinese here is just a placeholder.
Live happy in autarky then cry when you see other people surpassing you. It was fun how GM, Chrysler Ford and others were well just crap? They just moved when Japanese cars appeared, otherwise the moving to ever shitty products would not have stopped.
Maybe you should read what some US manufacturers wrote from ball bearings to glasses etc.

Yes, Thorong, and how was your bout with covid-19? I used to work in a plant where ladies sat at tables and assembled computers. Not anymore. They've all been replaced by Chinese slaves. It's easy to make a profit with slave labor. Even Chicoms can do it. Then came the Internet and your comrades spent considerable time and effort trying to hack my servers. Are you happy living in a police state where Big Brother watches every move you make? Knowing that any false move or slip of the tongue could result in a bullet to the back of your head? Then they'd harvest your vital organs, except your brain, that'd be splattered all over the dirt. Did you hear about the riots? PLA gonna shoot 'em all dead like they did at Tienanmen? I bet you don't remember Tienanmen, most likely they never even told you about it. But I bet the CCP pays you extra for trolling American websites so live it up...while you can.

For how many years there will still be the mantra that Chinese are slave labor...?
So who uses all their cars, tech etc?
Who eats in McDonalds?
Strangely they keep improving their quality of life in $$$ that there are even Chinese tourists now.
Shangai is more rich ppp than some Euro capitals and several US cities, The trend is to continue.
The poverty in China is in the not industrialized interior.

Hahaha! In your schools your children are learning Marxist talkpoints, while in Asia they are learning maths, programming.
But instead of fighting to not let your country being a future Argentina - once the most rich country - and copy what Asia does good. No, you just attack those who are successful like leftists.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
